Ch. 19: Relaxing Date

In the demon realm, Eda was at the Owl House, listening to the silence...and she hated it.

It reminded her of how ALONE she was after she was cursed, how she had nobody in her life. No friends, no family, no boyfriend/girlfriend/partner, just...nothing.

Even Hooty wasn't here anymore! That's how much she missed her kids-her family right now!

"It was for their own safety, I need to remember that." Eda muttered to herself.

Inside of her, Eda could hear the owl beast roaring in disagreement and disappointment.

'Oh what do you know?! You probably didn't have a family before being turned into a curse!' Eda thought before it roared at her again. 'Well I'm sorry, I didn't know but my point still stands! This is to protect them.'

Her left hand turned harpy-ish before it slapped Eda in the face, making her look at it!

"Since when can you do that?!" Eda shouted in surprise before she used her corruption/anti magic hand to stop it from hitting her again. "I didn't want to, but when people are trying to summon the only things that can actually kill my kids, I didn't have a choice!"

The owl beasts roared in Edam's head as she was confused by this.

"What do you mean my anti magic could stop them? You think that can compare to literal godlike beings?" Eda asked.

If anyone saw Eda "arguing" like this, they'd think she finally went crazy.

'What is she doing?' Raine thought, watching as they let themselves into the house.

They could assume it had something to do with Eda's curse/the owl beast, despite having it under control for some years now.

"Eda?" Raine asked.

Eda let got of her hand and turned to Raine, surprised to see they're back already!

"Raine!" Eda said before her harpy hand punched her in the face! "FUCK!"

"... Is everything okay?" Riane asked.

"... No." Eda said, rubbing her bruised cheek.

The harpy hand nodded before transforming back to normal, giving Eda control again.

"I know things are hard right now, but you have to realize, keeping them away from this is best." Raine said, walking up to sit next to Eda.

"I know but it's just...they were my kids! I didn't want to hurt them by just kicking them into another dimension but what else was I supposed to do?!" Eda shouted.

"There was nothing either of us could do." Raine said, using some healing magic on Eda's cheek. "As much as it might hurt, it's the only option. They have weapons that can kill them, they're trying to use their blood to summon the Archivists, and the Archivists are the most dangerous beings in the universe. If they show up here, then it's the end of the Isles, with them not here, there's only one possible way to get Titan's blood."

"The heart, which is barely beating." Eda said to her partner.

"Exactly. And if the Hunters can't get to that, they can't summon the Archivists." Raine said, stopping the healing as Eda's cheek was back to normal. "We just need to beat them and then the kids can come back."

"And if they hate us for doing this?" Eda asked, crying a bit. "I've lived through a lot of things, Raine, but my kids hating me? I think that would be the death of me."

"Don't worry, they won't." Raine said as pulled Eda close and hugged her for comfort, wanting to be a literal shoulder for their wife to cry on. "It'll be okay, Eda."

Eda remained silent for a moment as they sat together, still now exactly liking the silence of the house. But Eda was at least more comfortable being alone in the owl house right now.

"Thank you and sorry for freaking out. I'm just...so scared, Raine." Eda said.

"I know, I am too, Eda." Raine said before smiling. "But I remember someone once told me about punching fears in the face. You're afraid now, but that shouldn't dictate your life. You want to stop this? Then you go and be the bloodthirsty witch I love."

"Pffft, hehehehehehe! When did you become such a wordsmith?" Eda asked with a chuckle.

"I had great inspiration." Raine said, chuckling a bit too before getting up. "Come on, you need a break."

Raine helped Eda stand up before guiding her out of the owl house, taking her on an impromptu date to help life her spirits. Something she needed right now.

"So where are we heading?" Eda asked.

"It's a surprise." Raine said as they summoned their fox staff.

"Oh, someone is being mysterious." Eda said with waving eyebrows.

"Someone has to keep the relationship exciting in a calm way." Raine said with a cheeky grin. "Now close your eyes and I'll tell you when you can open them."

"Last time I heard that I was woke up in a bathtub full of ice and missing a kidney, but fine, I'll trust you." Eda said as she got on the staff and closed her eyes.

"..." Raine just stared at Eda before looking forward and flying them to the spot.

'That is going to haunt me for a while.' Raine thought.

-20 minutes later-

Raine landed the staff and turned to Eda.

"Okay, open your eyes." They said.

Eda opened her eyes and smiled brightly, seeing the same hill they had many dates in the past before they broke up.

"Our meadow." Eda said in awe, looking around at all of the beautiful flowers.

"Yeah, it's the only part of the isles that's been untouched all these years." Raine said, drawing a spell circle to summon a picnic basket and blanket.

"Damn, I haven't been here in a long time." Eda said.

"Me either." Raine said as they walked up the hill. "I figured a familiar and comfortable place would help melt all of life's worries away."

"I strongly hope so, I do think I needed this." Eda said, following Raine.

At the top of the hill and after laying down the blanket, Eda and Raine sat down and opened the basket to see wrapped sandwiches, covered bowls, and a few bottles of lite apple blood.

"Lite? Really?" Eda asked, seeing it as a downside.

"You need to cut back and you know it. I can't raise King by myself." Raine said, grabbing a bottle and opening it.

"The things I do for love." Eda said, playfully rolling her eyes.

Raine handed her the bottle, which Eda took, while they grabbed one for themself.

"Cheers." Raine said, holding up their bottle.

"Cheers." Eda said before clinking the bottles together.

'Maybe this is what I needed.' Eda thought, before changing her right arm into a shield that blocked a Titan Trapper spear.

"... Just ten fucking minutes, is that too much to ask?" Eda asked, standing up.

Raine groaned loudly, sending a sound wave that knocked more Trappers away.

"CAN WE NOT ENJOY JUST ONE PICNIC WITHOUT YOU FUCKS INTERRUPTING?!" Raine shouted, losing their cool.

Eda wasn't the only one at her limit, Raine was just better at hiding it than their wife.

"Such sacred ground that we now have to stain with blood." Eda said, hating having to fight at their favorite spot.

"Hopefully we can clean it later." Raine said, drinking some lite apple blood and summoning a guitar.

An electric guitar from the human realm Luz got for them on their birthday last year.

Such a shame a wonderful gift had to be used on such trash witches. Speaking off, the Titan Trapper started to storm the hill.

"YAAAAAAH!" They screamed, preparing weapons and spells.

"ROOOOOOOOOOAH!" Eda roared as she went harpy mode and drew a giant anti magic circle.

She blasted a massive wave of black magic at them, causing sharp spires of black crystals to impale many of them.

And those that survived, were knocked back and struck by lightning as Raine played a heavy metal solo.

"Get away from us." Raine said with a growl.

Some trappers began firing spells, but Harpy Eda blocked and caught them as she enlarged her right hand before infusing them all of with anti-magic.

"Thanks but I don't take gifts from assholes. Take 'em back!" Harpy Eda shouted as she threw them back!

That, along with Eda's anger, was a dangerous combination.

A lone Titan trapper was left after all the carnage, quickly raising his hands in the air!

"I surrender!" He shouted in fear.

Eda and Raine glanced at each other before turning back to the last trapper.

"No." They said before killing him with an anti magic filled soundwave.

'Good riddance.' They thought before seeing their favorite hill and meadow was covered in blood.

The flowers were ruined.

The smell of nature had been replaced by the smell of iron.

The only thing about the hill that wasn't ruined was their picnic!

Which to them, was basically worthless now as the area was now looked like a battlefield and not a calming and peaceful place.

"So much for our romantic picnic." Raine said bitterly, unsummoning the electric guitar.

"Yeah." Harpy Eda said blandly. "The only upside is that killing them felt a LITTLE satisfying."

Turning back to normal, Eda sat back down in a huff and grabbed her lite apple blood and chugging it down without a care.

"So much for a peaceful date with no stress." Raine said.

Raine now wished they brought the hard stuff as they sat down and drank with Eda. Their lunch no longer feeling like a lunch.

"I still hope the kids are alright." Eda said.

"I'm sure they are, love." Raine said, grabbing some of the food from the basket.
