Ch. 4: Hospital Visit
And it wasn't just one person that needed help, another person was in just as bad a situation as Tracey. Possibly more.
In the demon realm, Boscha, Skara, and Amelia stood outside a door to a hospital. They had looked for Luz, but who knew a Titan could hide so well. They looked inside and saw the depressed girl. They nodded and went in.
"Hey, Cat, how are you?" Boscha asked.
"You know... it's funny really." Cat said, blankly. "The entire time I was a puppet, I just wanted to go back to being a witch, I wanted to move, I wanted to feel, I wanted to breath... Now I want nothing more than to go back to being a puppet... at least then I didn't feel pain."
Cat looked at the stump that used to be her arm, then at her missing leg, then at her friends, so they could see the stitched up eye socket.
"Cat, don't say that." Boscha said, shaking her head.
"Bosch, how can I not? It hurts just to move." Cat said, staring at the ceiling. "The only upside is that now I can save snails on my glasses by just switching to a monocle."
Boscha and Amelia quickly suppressed their laughs before Skara nudged them and looked seriously at Cat.
"Cat, that is not funny." Skara said.
"Oh, really? Tell me something, do any of you know what it's like to have someone take a knife and gouge your eye out? To have them stab you in the face? To literally cut off your leg and arm and throw them into a fire in front of you?" Cat asked, still looking at the ceiling. "I do, and I thought that was horrible, but then I was turned back three days after Luz killed that fucking bastard of an Emperor... you three heard my screams. I sat there, bleeding out and screaming in agony."
"And we did our best to stop it. We prepared over 20 healing glyphs and Skara used her magic to sooth you long enough for the healing coven head, Hettie, to patch you up." Amelia said to her.
"Yes, I was halfway conscious through it all and even she found it difficult to heal all of my injuries. It's a miracle I'm even alive, she said." Cat said, glancing at them as a lone tear fell from her eye. "But how can I live my life after being reduced to this? One arm, one leg, and one eye. What kind of witch can I be when nearly half of my body was stolen from me?"
"Not to mention that I have to drop from the Grudgby team." Cat said, "... I hate my life."
"That doesn't matter." Boscha said, "What matters is the fact that you're alive!"
Amelia walked over and put her arm around Boscha's waist.
"Calm down, Babe, yelling won't help anyone." Amelia said.
"We have to do something to keep her from thinking that! Cat is our best friend and we need to be here for her." Boscha said.
"We are here and we will always be here for her." Skara said, moving closer and holding Cat's hand. "No matter what."
Cat just looked away, she hated this, she didn't want their pity.
She didn't need to have others make her feel better because of the actions of a terrible and cruel person.
'I swear to the Titan, I will find whoever did this to me and I will make them PAY!' Cat thought, a hidden fire of revenge burning in her heart.
"What about my parents?" Cat asked, changing the subject. "Are they too busy helping others or are they....still in hiding?"
"They're helping." Amelia said, turning her attention away from Boscha.
"All of our parents are helping. Ever since the coven system was dismantled and everyone went back to normal, they've all been working together to fix the Isles and find anyone who doesn't know. Luz pitched the idea of a "constitutional democracy" and it's going to take every witch to sign off on it." Boscha explained.
"Funny, because they haven't come to see their only daughter in a month." Cat said, bitterly, "But I bet they just ran to my older brother the second they found him."
This made them all wince, knowing that Cat's parents were just like Amity's mother. Only carrying more about accomplishments than trying to control their child.
"Cat, you know that they love you." Skara said.
"Yeah, well they have a funny way of showing it." Cat said bitterly. "In this case, a LACK of showing it. I wouldn't be surprised if they thought I died."
"Don't you DARE say that. Don't even think it!" Skara said with a light glare at Cat.
"How am I not supposed to?!" Cat asked, "You don't know what it's like! You're the only children in your families, you are loved by your parents, you don't know what it's like to be the family failure!"
Skara looked at the ground, greatly upset by this, and stormed out of the room.
"Skara!" Boscha and Amelia called out.
The bard witch didn't listen as continued running, pushing past anyone and everyone in her way.
"Hey! Watch it, kid!" Eda said as she was pushed away and patted her dress down. "Geez, the apocalypse is over. No need to rush out like you're about to die."
Eda looked at the door she was in front of and opened it. She walked over and sat in a chair.
"Hey, Raine." Eda said, looking at the Bard.
They were in a coma, multiple parts of their body covered in bandages, as multiple bones were broken. They were there when Belos became a Titan, if it wasn't for their quick thinking and putting up a shield, They would've died. It didn't do much, but it did last long enough that it prevented Belos foot from turning them into Raine Jelly.
"Sorry if I'm a little late visiting, things have been a bit busy as of late. Especially since I'm no longer a wanted criminal." Eda said with a small chuckle. "Not to mention the crazy things happening because of my curse."
Eda raised her black arm, as if Raine could see it.
"Pretty cool, right?" Eda asked, moving her new hand closer to Raine, almost like she was trying to show it to them, before slowly cupping Raine's left cheek. "I even got a cool new magic from it, Corruption magic, but I've got a lot of control over it."
Seeing Raine like this, unable to even see the light of their eyes, made Eda sigh sadly.
"I honestly don't even know if you can hear me right now." Eda said, looking down. "It's like you're a puppet all over again."
Eda moved her hand down to Raine's left hand, holding it firmly and hoped that they would at least hold back subconsciously.
'Please Raine, at least give me a flinch.' Eda thought.
It seemed that Raine, being as stubborn as ever, refused to let a little coma get in their way. They squeezed Eda's hand, it wasn't much, like a kitten tapping your hand, but it was enough to make Eda smile.
"I think we have a lot to talk about when you wake up, but don't worry, I'll be there... and I'll be honest this time." Eda said, before giving a firm expression. "I won't repeat that mistake again... but it seems like Luz needs to learn that lesson."
Eda let out a sigh as she could see all of the signs she once saw with herself. Avoiding the subject, making excuses, turning to run away, refusing to accept that she has a problem; it was like Eda was watching her young adulthood all over again in the form of a teenage, half-Titan.
'Oh, Titan, I taught her too much.' Eda thought with a small groan.
"If I had handled by stuff better before, I could help Luz better than a surprise intervention." Eda said, leaning back to stare at the ceiling. "And if I better find a way to get her to open up or else this will end even worse than with my and the owl beast."
Eda sighed and stood up, having said all she needed to say.
"Thank you for listening, Rainestorm. Really. I'll come back to visit when I have the time." She said, lifting up Raine's hand and kissing it softly. "And if you're awake anytime soon, I'll treat you to the best date of your entire life. That's a promise."
As Eda was walking out, Skara had ran all the way from the hospital to her family's manor and was walking in the front door. Cat's words were stuck in her head all the way there, with one phrase sticking out the most.
'You are loved by your parents.' Cat said to her.
Skara headed to a dark, cold room and made a light spell. The light revealed two, really bad, handmade coffins. One on the left was labeled "Mom" and the other on the right was labelled "Dad"... inside is exactly what you think.
"You're wrong, Cat... I don't have parents that love me... not since the Day of Unity." Skara said, her voice breaking.
The alone bard witch fell to her knees, crying in silence as she placed her hands to "put on their coffins or to "hug" her parents. To at least feel SOME remaining love and warmth from their cold, lifeless bodies.
And she sat there, alone, for the rest of the day.
