BACK TO ANASTASIA'S POV

NewBorns.
PureBloods.
So different yet so similar.
Vampires.. that's what they all stem from. Blood sucking demons, cold blooded creatures.

Vampires are an abomination. Taking the outward appearance of a virtuous human, yet filled with disgusting hedonism -
Forbidden sin.

Under the sweet, innocent mask lay an unforgivable evil. Taunting you into the Jaws of Death. Stripping away purity, and instead filling it with immorality.

"Bitch! Wake up!" Jasmine's voice woke me up from my relentless sleep. Peeking my eyes open, I see her standing over me. Her hands on her hips as she looks down at me condescendingly, her stenciled eyebrows arching with skepticism.

After the epiphany of Kai's nature, and the revelations unraveled by Father; I went straight to my dorm and into bed. Flooding my thoughts with the divulgences of Kai's history until sleep finally took over.

I whined exasperatedly, pulling the soft blanket over my head.

"Nuh- uh, get your ass out of bed. You got some explaining to do." She said, tugging the blanket from my grip abruptly and dropping it on the floor.

I groaned again, covering my eyes with my arm lazily draped over my face.

Suddenly, Jasmine jumped on me. Grabbing my wrists and holding them above my head as she straddled my stomach.

My wide eyes bulging out of their sockets as I look up at her.
"J-Jas get.. the fuck.. o-off me. I-I'm suffo-cating." I gasped quietly.

A toothy grin grew on her face, followed by a few giggles.

"J-Jas, I c-can't b-b-breath."

"Huh? Did you say something? I can't hearrr youu.." She mocked, putting her ear near my mouth as though she was struggling to hear me.

The moment her ear was a few inches from my mouth, I quickly lifted my head and latched my teeth around it.

She screamed as I bit down on her ear.
"Ow, ow, OW! ANNIE!"

She began to stand up on the bed, with her legs on either side, next to my shoulders; bending down as her ear was still between my teeth.

Swiftly, I took this opportunity to roll under her , releasing her ear.

She dropped down on the bed, rubbing her ear with tears brimming in her glossy hazel eyes.
"Owwwwwwwww, bitch." She whimpered.

I shrugged. "Your fault."

She rolls her eyes, trailing behind me as I made my way to the bathroom to brush my teeth.

I looked at her through the mirror as she leaned on the doorway waiting.

"What?" I muffled with a toothbrush in my mouth.

"Whatever. I knew it was too good to be true that you would stay at the reunion." She huffed. "Where were you?"

She doesn't know Kai is a vampire.

"I went back to the woods to train then went to bed." I simply stated.

"Typical." She scoffed, rolling her eyes as she shook her head and smiled amusingly.
"Anyways, have you heard from Kai?"

I spat out the minty toothpaste quickly.
"Um, no. Why?"

"Well, he's been ghosting.. completely disappeared. I'm worried, I think he's spiraling. He hasn't smoked since mum and dad died" Her anxious eyes faced down on the floor as she begins to fiddle with her fingers.

"You know Kai. He'll probably just start fucking some vampires and get over it." I assured her, dabbing a towel over my mouth.

"Yeah. But I feel like something else is wrong... I'm probably being paranoid, right?"

A rush of nerves creeped up my spine. As I turned to face her. Her eyes clouded with concern and her eyebrows knitted agitatedly.

She doesn't know.

"Right." I gave her a small smile not meeting her eyes as I walk past her.

She sighed. "Anywhoo..." she quickly changed the subject.

"Me and Ryder spoke to Mr Mysterious.." she trailed on.

I made my way to the wardrobe picking out my uniform and getting ready to change. Jasmine doing the same.

"Who?" I asked absentmindedly.

"Hardin."

I was caught by surprise hearing his name, my eyes widening.

"Oh."

"Yeah.. he's soo damn sexy! It's definitely not going to take you two weeks."

I turned to look at her. An evil smirk growing on her corners of her mouth.

"Keep dreaming, cause that's not gonna happen." I said, sitting down on the bed and pulling a long sock over my calf.

"It will."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"Argh!" I groaned annoyingly, jumping up from my bed and searching for my shoes.

"The longer you keep denying, the more sexually frustrated you'll be."

Disgust screwed on my face as I slowly turned around to face her.
A smug look on her face as she smiles gleefully.

"Jasmine. Seriously? He's a vampire. A Pureblood to be exact!"

"So? He's still hot."

"I HATE vampires."

"Well you're not supposed to!" She pouts, crossing her arms over her chest like a child throwing a tantrum.

"You don't get it." I sighed, turning around as I was about to head for the door.

She quickly catches my hand. "Annie. If I can move on, so can you." A sincere look on her face as her eyes gleams with empathy.

"I-I can't, Jas." I whispered lowly.

She sighs defeatedly, slowly letting go of my hand.

"One day, Annie. One day." A bright smile etched on her face.

How? How can she be this calm and composed?

I looked into her eyes. Rays of light, streaked with love and passion beamed through. As though they held the crack of dawn within them, her eyes shone brightly as she looked straight into my own.

Hope.
A bright light at the end of a dark tunnel, guiding even the most irredeemable souls back to reality... A second chance.

Inspiring the bright stars to climb up to the blacken sky, dotting the world with it's twinkling lights.

I always saw Father's pacifist ideas to be stupid. Peace amongst preys and predators.. a sick fantasy.

How can there be peace when the battle was always inevitably one-sided? Doomed to our deaths, humans are nothing but dupes; victimized and seen as nothing but livestock.

I sighed, returning Jasmine's smile and then turning back around.

Opening the door, stood the familiar ominous feeling radiating from a tense, hardened body.

His body loomed over my own, his tall, dark figure blocking the corridor as he looked down at me.

Chills trickled up my arms, erecting the hairs on the back of my neck.

Kai.
