Chapter 4

It is Monday. The day that Jade has been dreading the entire weekend. She didn't feel ready to face, what seemed like the world, without her sister by her side. She sits back into the leather seating of her sister's car, trying to see if a nap would make this nightmare go away.

Jade values her academics, but the only thing that didn't sit well with her, were her peers. There was always some sort of disconnection between her and the other students her age. She doesn't know if it's her shy personality or the simple fact that she hates social interaction.

The Jeep comes to complete stop, causing Jade's heart rate to ramp up out of no where. She knows that she has to get out of the car and face her demise, but she isn't ready. She squeezes her eyes shut, as a way of trying to see if this is all a dream. Sadly, it isn't, once her eyes flutter open.

"Fuck~," She densely breathes out, frustratedly lifting herself from her inclined position in the car seat. She grabs her jet-black retreat backpack and places it in her lap. On the backpack, there is skull Jade drew in the ninth grade with liquid white-out. It's considered to be one of Jade's few masterpieces.

"Come on, Jade. It won't be that bad," Melanie says as an attempt to convince her younger sister that it would be okay. "Think about all the cute guys that you could flirt with," Melanie says glancing over at her younger sister with smiling eyes, genuinely excited for her.

Jade shivers as the thought of being with a boy crosses her mind. She is becoming tired of this pointless conversation so she grabs the handle of the door in order to escape. She rather go through the gates of hell than talk about being with a boy.

Jade slings the backpack over her right shoulder as she stands in front of the silver-painted prison before her. The clusters of cliques are apparent outside of the school. As Jade observes her peers, she can't help but feel a bit lonesome.

She continues her trek towards the front of the school. She grips onto the metal handle of the main entrance and a gust of air hits her as she pulls open the heavy door.

The roaring sound produced by the bunches adolescents in an enclosed space fills her ears.

She pulls out the schedule she received when she first came to register for her new school. Her first period read: Mrs. Rodriguez AP Philosophy 6-213

Lucky for her, she has no idea where that classroom is. The illustrated map on the back of the schedule isn't of much use.

She looks up, desperately searching for any hallway indicators, since her stubborn tendencies prevent her from making the wiser decision of asking someone for help.

There is a large painted black number five that she spots to her left. She takes a trip down that hallway and is unable to find a way to the six hallway. She looks completely lost as she looks back and forth from her left to her right. Others observing the astray teenager from the outside, probably thought she was a freshman that still couldn't get the hang of finding their classes.

She continues to walk down the five hallway, stuffing her face into the flimsy schedule. Jade glances up to find that the six hallway perfectly intersects the one she is in now. Directly down the hallway she is in, she spots 6-213 engraved into a sign near a wooden door with a thin strip of window. It definitely is the classroom.

Jubilation and triumph consumes Jade for the first time this morning. She has finally reached her destination just in time before the bell rings.

Her strides towards the door at the end of the conjoining hallways progressively increases. She's ready to take a seat in class and act like she doesn't exist.

Only, Jade doesn't notice Kinsey Scott and her posse coming down the hallway that she so desperately is heading towards. Both parties are completely unaware as they travel down their respective hallways. Jade continues walking in her fast pace, while Kinsey strides casually with a good portion of her football team.

As Jade nears her destination at the end of the hallway, she feels an impact against her left shoulder. The girl with the smaller frame, propels towards her other side as the force came into contact with her left shoulder. Her bottom is the first to land on the vinyl composition flooring of the hallway. Her books follow suit while her backpack continues to cling onto her shoulder, adding further strain to the process of falling on your ass in front of your peers.

The rest of the students surrounding the incident bust out in laughter, until they realize who the brunette bumped into. The laughter dies down and the scuffling of sneakers is heard as many of the students scurry to their classes, unwilling to witness scene that is about to erupt. Usually teenagers would live for the opportunity to watch some drama go down, but not drama that includes Kinsey Scott. She was ruthless and hardcore. No one wanted to be on her bad side.

Kinsey's strong stature doesn't get pushed down by the run in. She continues to stand strong, only a bit shaken up.

"What the fuck's your problem?" Kinsey seethes as she stares down at the brunette who was scrambling to retrieve her books from the ground. Her rage-filled shout cause the students, that decided to stay behind, to tense up. It was no squeal, no screech, it was a guttural bellow.

The gang that stood behind her were a bit shaken as well. They know that Kinsey loathes any form of touch that she doesn't approve of.

Kinsey straightens herself out while she waits for the brunette to respond.

Jade's face begins to burn up as she sits on the cold ground. She can feel the stares and the ridicule seep through and crawl under her skin. The thought of just sitting there until everyone disperses passes her mind, but she knows that would not be a plausible course of action. She has to stand up for herself in order to salvage any pride she has left.

The brunette takes an abnormally large gulp as she dreadfully lifts her head. Her head felt as heavy as a boulder in this moment.

Kinsey intently eyes the brunette as she lifts her head. Once she notices, Jade's sweet chocolate brown eyes, she immediately recognizes her. Her hardened glare softens into a mischievous smirk. No words fall out of her mouth.

Jade sees the girl with the icy blue eyes. It's as if those blue eyes had rays that were freezing her body. She couldn't move. The only part of her that is active is her heart as its rate speeds up. She flashes back to the mere five feet they stood in front of one another in the quaint parlor room.

"What the fuck are you staring at?" Kinsey questions teasingly to the brunette that still sat on the filthy school floor.

This question serves as a switch to bring Jade back to reality. She blinks her eyes as if falling out of a trance. She hurries to push herself awkwardly off of the floor.

The rest of the students that patiently waited, finally decide that nothing much was going to happen so they scurry to class before the late bell rings.

The boys that stood surrounding Kinsey, stare at each other, highly confused as to why they didn't have to prevent Kinsey from being suspended once again.

Jade straightens herself up as she smoothes down her plain black jeans. She looks up, to face Kinsey who is less than a foot away from her.

"So, I guess I have a stalker now," Kinsey whispers cockily as she takes a step closer to the brunette,"This feels a bit familiar, doesn't it?"

"You fucking wish."

Kinsey looks at the brunette, stupefied by her audacity. The boys snicker in the background.

Jade immediately regrets her decision as the blonde gets closer and closer with her intensifying glare. Kinsey nears the brunette's right ear and menacingly whispers "I see you're bold as fuck now."

The syllables in that phrase nearly sends Jade off the wall. The whisper lingers onto Jade's ear causing her to feel a shiver run down her spine. She shuts her eyes as she takes a breathe in. The dirty blonde swiftly walks past her, nudging the brunette's shoulder on her way past her. The burly clan of teenagers follow suit, perplexed by the peculiar interaction that happened just seconds ago.

"What was all that about, Kins?" Antonio questions, basically asking for the entire group of boys.

"None of your fucking business. Just make sure your ass is actually at practice for once or I'm gonna drill your ass and make you run a Kamikaze!"

Running a Kamikaze is used as an extreme form of punishment within the football team. It consists of running seven miles at full speed within thirty minutes. If that time limit was not met, then the victim would have to add on another mile right after attempting to complete the Kamikaze.

No one has been assigned one this year, so the boys just saw this as Kinsey being defensive.

"Yes, sir," Antonio chuckles out as he taps James, signaling for their departure. "We're gonna be late for Watson's class," He says as he walks away with James and another guy named Trevor.

With that, Kinsey reaches for the door handle of the same classroom that Jade was hunting for all morning. She walks in, immediately heading to her seat in the very back of the class, not even sparing a glance at any other soul.

Jade turns around to see the blonde walk into the classroom. A sigh leaves her lips as she shakes her head, realizing that this was going to be a long year.
