Once again, Sameer looked at the clock, impatient and exasperated.
Having woken up later than planned, he had rushed through the self-grooming activities for the day.
Ramdhari stood dumbfounded as Sameer told him off for letting him sleep in. The only word the poor guy understood was 'late' but had no idea who was late or for what!
He timidly asked "Sameer Bhaiya, coffee?" His Bhaiya distractedly muttered "Later...", leaving Ramdhari wondering if he was in some way responsible for something running late. Noting that it was past mid-day, Ramdhari arrived at another conclusion and asked tentatively "Bhaiya, lunch??" But only received an incredulous look from Sameer and was waved out of the room with another "Later!"
Naina alighted from the rickshaw and quickly paid the fare. Yet again she mentally cussed at the cause of her delay!
Confirming that the name plate hanging next to the gate bore Jaiprakashji's name, she took a few quick steps towards the gate, but then hesitated as she reached out to push is open. The big white mansion was very elegant, but a little imposing too. Most of the other bungalows in the vicinity were similar in stature. The street outside was fairly deserted at that time of the day, with most families busy enjoying the much-anticipated heavy Sunday lunch.
Subconsciously, Naina momentarily questioned if she was ready to step into this new world, which was so far removed from where she came from. But her heart was tied to the man waiting within those walls and her feet were incapable of resisting that pull.
The bottom of the iron gate grated noisily against the concrete of the driveway, jolting her out of her thoughts, and alerting the occupants of the house of a guest's arrival.
Her eyes swept over the lush green grass of the lawn to one side of the driveway. A mix of flowering and leafy shrubs were planted bordering the lawn. Two coconut trees stood tall and slightly swaying in the breeze. A little further up, at the end of the driveway, an older dark blue model of a Maruti Suzuki car was parked.
As Naina started climbing the few steps leading to the porch, a wooden door was flung open and Sameer stepped out with an excited and yet slightly annoyed expression. He was dressed in dark jeans paired with a simple white t-shirt which was embroidered on the left side with a small logo of a brand that she was unfamiliar. Her eyes quickly travelled over him, taking in his slightly shorter haircut as she immediately decided that she liked it a little on the longer side.
"You are late by almost an hour!" He immediately complained. She mumbled in a voice shivering with excitement "Sorry! I missed the bus... and had to wait for the next one for forty-five minutes!"
Naina couldn't decide what she wanted more, to hungrily gaze at his face to her hearts content, or to hold on to him tight and reassure herself that he was real, and she wasn't dreaming!
In the end, she didn't have to decide.
Both mindlessly stepped closer to each other and, unaware of who initiated it, engulfed each other in a tight hug.
The anxiety of the last couple of months slowly drained away and was replaced with the warmth radiating from the other. Smiles bloomed and hearts raced erratically.
Her cheek pressed against his chest, Naina deeply inhaled his fragrance, a heady mix of notes of sandalwood, musk, juniper, and something floral too. Sameer sighed in satisfaction welcoming her softness. She was dressed in a peach shalwar kameez, which was adding to the rosy glow of her cheeks.
From the myriad of emotions that rose within them both, the sense of coming home was probably the strongest.
Their moment though was interrupted as they heard someone giggle. Naina quickly pulled away and turned in the direction of the sound. A small girl of about two and half stood in the doorway smiling cheekily, peering at them with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Who's that?!" Naina uttered in surprise. Sameer frowned at the intruder and muttered "That's Munni, Ramdhari and Champa's daughter. They live in the servant's quarters at the back." Just then a young woman rushed from inside. Casting an apologetic smile at Sameer and Naina as she pulled the pallu on her head a little forward, she led the girl inside scolding her for wandering away from the kitchen.
"Come on in." Sameer invited Naina in and showed her the way to the living room. They settled on a sofa next to each other, leaving a just-respectable-enough distance in between. For a few minutes both just kept looking at each other and smiling like idiots!
Champa brought out a tray with two glasses of water. Giving Naina a shy smile and curious look over, she headed back inside.
As she sipped on the water, Naina's eyes took in the tastefully furnished living room. The inside walls of the house were painted in ivory. The French windows to one side faced the garden. The curtains, which were presently pulled to the sides, were a beautiful pale grey embroidered with a silver thread. The sofa set was charcoal grey and a couple of wooden chairs with grey cushions were placed around the room. The main coffee table and the two side tables with glass tops looked sparkling clean. A crystal vase with some oriental silk flowers was placed on one of the side tables. A very elegant and modern-looking tall lamp was placed in one corner.
Not able to hide her surprise at the pristine condition of the house, Naina uttered "Looks like the caretakers have been taking really good care of the house! It hardly seems like nobody has been living here since Nanaji's passing."
Sameer explained "Actually, Mom got the house painted and redecorated for Rohan's wedding." "But you were hardly here... I mean with the wedding happening in Sudhagadh..." her voice trailed off uncertainly.
"Yes, but we had the pooja in this house post the wedding. And lot of the relatives from both the sides were invited for it. It's not like most of those people will ever visit our house in London... so, I suppose Mom wanted to impress them" he finished chuckling softly. Naina nodded at the explanation, but was baffled, All this expense just to host a pooja for a few hours?? "And now I get to enjoy a newly spruced up place!" he added smiling.
Changing the subject, he questioned in a complaining tone "How did you manage to miss your bus?! I did not expect this lack of eagerness from the you. Especially after grilling me about the visa status very weekend!"
She blushed a little and pouted "I am not to be blamed! I left home well in advance cause I wanted to pick something special for you. But then my rickshaw was stuck in traffic as there was big procession, something about demanding increase in some reservation quotas in government jobs."
Recalling her brief stop on the way, she pulled out a cardboard box from her bag, similar to the one she had offered at the temple the day before. 'Mahalaxmi Sweets' along with a photo of the goddess of prosperity was printed across its yellow lid. She beamed as she handed the box to him "I picked some sweets for you. The Kesar-Malai pedhas from this shop are very famous!"
Removing the lid, Sameer held out the open box for her. As she was about to pop one in her mouth, he scowled "I thought these are especially for me..." Her hand halted mid-air as she appeared a little contrite "Sorry... you are right! You should enjoy them... at least have the first one." He laughed at her reaction "Naina, you are so gullible! I was just teasing."
Her features relaxed and she shook her head at him as understanding dawned. Then trying to control the blush creeping up her face, she leaned closer and presented the sweet closer to his lips "I did promise you sweets when you arrived here, right?"
Eyes fixed on her face, he opened his mouth and took a big bite, his lips brushing slightly against the tips of her fingers. She pursed her lips together trying to stop the shy smile budding there, as he hummed in approval, more for the fingers feeding him than the yellow morsel of sweet.
Sameer popped another pedha in his mouth and then smirked "These are good... but surely you aren't expecting that I'm going to make do with just these, right?" She appeared puzzled for a moment or two, and then her eyes widened in surprise as his insinuation sunk in.
He can't possibly mean it! Could he be this shameless?? Naina waited for him to say something to the effect that he had just been kidding, but he did not. Instead, the intense look in his eyes left her convinced that he very much meant what he had implied. A nervous smile flickered on Naina face as she thought to herself feeling flustered, Naina, seems like he is indeed that shameless! But don't forget that you are not!
Sameer looked on puzzled, as she timidly picked up a magazine that was laying on the coffee table. Naina flicked through it absently without the contents registering with her for a few moments, before he spoke with an exasperated edge to his voice "You can borrow the magazine if you like... In fact, keep it if it's that interesting!"
She placed it back on the table and gathering her wits asked "So, how was the journey from London? How was the food? Our neighbour Mrs Sharma had gone to Hong Kong last month, she was complaining about the food served on the flights being tasteless! It is really that bad? I mean, flights are so expensive..." He chuckled "Oh yes... one of the unsolved mysteries of the world! How do all airlines manage to excel at serving such horrid meals?!"
Then he added his eyes gleaming with mischief "Do you know, sometimes just to piss off the passengers around me even more, I board the flight with a box of hot, super yummy smelling Pizza. And then while others are impatiently waiting for the service to start, I enjoy my food. You should see the dirty looks the passengers give the serving staff and they in turn pass on to me!" She giggled learning about this cheeky side of him.
For the next few minutes Sameer spoke about his journey. At one point he complained "The guy sitting next to me wanted to use the toilet every 30 minutes! And I am not exaggerating. I wanted to tell him that he should have got his prostate examined before booking the flight!" Naina uttered "I hope you didn't really say that to him!" To her relief, he shook his head and muttered "And then there were two babies competing for who-can-cry-longest-and-loudest! I must admit... both were exceptionally good at it."
As Naina nodded along trying to appear sympathetic towards him, her was thinking to herself, How can anyone notice all these little issues when they are flying high above the clouds?! I definitely wouldn't have! I would have just kept looking outside the window for the whole journey...
Their conversation was interrupted as Ramdhari entered the lounge and pointing at the wall clock asked Sameer "Bhaiya, lunch??"
As Sameer asked Naina if she would like to have lunch, Ramdhari looked at the guest and thought to himself, So, Bhaiya was complaining about her being late! He unsuccessfully tried to recall if he had seen her visiting the family when they had stayed in the house after Rohan's wedding.
But she must be someone important if Bhaiya was so impatiently waiting for her! Reaching this conclusion, Ramdhari made it a point to smile extra sweetly at Naina as he served them lunch.
Throughout the meal, Naina watched the communication between the two men with growing fascination. Ramdhari would pose questions using one-two word sentences, which Sameer would answer mostly using gestures.
Ramdhari: Chappati?
Sameer: Nodding his head held up one finger.
Ramdhari: Bhaiya Paani?
Sameer: Nods his head.
Ramdhari: Bhaiya Dal?
Sameer: Shakes his head
Ramdhari: Gulab Jamum?
Sameer: Held up two fingers with a smile.
At one point during the meal, Munni tottered in behind Ramdhari and eagerly watched the proceedings. Spotting the box of pedhas she excitedly extended her hand towards it, only to earn herself a light slap on her hand from her father along with a scolding. Ramdhari shouted out to his wife to take her inside.
The little toddler's chin wobbled, and eyes brimmed with tears, as her mother arrived and continued scolding her. But before Champa could pull her away, Sameer snapped at Ramdhari "Don't hit the poor girl! All she wants is a sweet."
Picking two pedhas from the box, he held them out to Munni and smiled encouragingly as the now upset child. But not wanting to risk another smack from her parents, the girl stood uncertainly staring at the sweets.
Ramdhari muttered something to Sameer about how Munni would start giving him a hard time if he pampered her. Ignoring what he was saying, Sameer turned to Naina "Tell them it's okay. And she can eat the sweets." Munni happily extended her hand and ran away with the sweets as the new auntie insisted to her parents that it was okay.
As they returned to the lounge after finishing the meal, Ramdhari trailed behind. Pointing at the clock with one hand and holding up three fingers with the other, he posed another question "Bhaiya, coffee?" Sameer was stumped for a few seconds wondering why they would need three coffees but then realising that he wanted to know when they would like their coffees, he shook his head and held up four fingers. Ramdhari nodded in understanding and left muttering he and Champa would be in their quarters if he needed anything.
Frowning slightly Naina questioned "Sameer, are you really not worried?" "Worried about what?" he looked at her quizzically. "How will you make it work? Sameer, you can barely communicate with Ramdhari..." she voiced her doubts.
He shrugged "I think we are doing alright... He served us lunch and will bring the coffees at four." She gaped at him for about thirty seconds and then exclaimed "Are you seriously thinking you can manage at work by nodding your head or holding up fingers?!"
Trying very hard to hold in his laughter at her shocked expression, he replied nonchalantly "Well, most of the people that I will need to interact at work must be speaking English..."
Recalling their previous conversations where he had briefly touched on his plans for the Ahmedabad setup, various scenarios started playing out in Naina's head.
How is he planning to create new partnerships with suppliers, or negotiate delivery schedules or rates with the uneducated woman running certain cottage industries?
What if someone holds up a finger implying one month, when he is asking them how many weeks something will take?!
Or what if someone is quoting a price of Rs10 and he commits to paying them 10 Pounds?!
She earnestly spoke "Sameer, it won't be that easy. You won't be able to communicate with most of your ground staff!" He seemed to ponder on it and then smiled brightly "I have just the solution! You can help me with the communication bit."
Taken aback by his declaration, Naina muttered uncomprehendingly "How can I help you?? What do you mean?" Then sort of reaching a conclusion, she continued tentatively "Sameer, I can't leave my job to help you with this. What would I tell everyone? Why I am leaving my current job? Plus, I enjoy my role of being a tour manager cum guide."
Naina held her breath for a bit wondering if he would be offended by her stance, considering he had moved all the way to be closer to her.
Thinking he had pulled her leg for long enough, he decided to end her misery. Smiling mischievously, he spoke "Don't worry, I have it all under control! There are already interviews lined up with few candidates for the post of a personal assistant. That person is expected to accompany me everywhere and act as my translator."
As relief flooded her, he chuckled "God! You should have seen your face! Did you seriously think I would expect you to become my PA?" Naina scowled at him "It's not funny! I was so scared at the thought of letting you down."
He shrugged smirking "Well, this is me... I am afraid you will just have to learn to put up with my teasing." His mind silently added, Especially, when you look to adorably annoyed by my teasing! Naina opened her mouth to complain some more, but then nodded smiling as she thought, Hayee... if you keep teaching... I will be happy to keep learning all my life!
For some time, they discussed Sameer's work-related plans. With no phone card driven limit, he now shared more details about his conversations with Dinesh and the ideas he had in mind.
For the most part Naina listened very attentively. But every now and then, she would get distracted by the shape of his hands as he gestured wildly, or by his dazzling smile as he made some happy forecasts for the success of his business strategy.
At one point, when he eagerly asked her "Do you think that will work?" not wanting to admit that she had been lost in admiration of how the white t-shirt stretched over his broad shoulders, Naina blinked uncomprehendingly and then muttered "Of course it will work!" Then noting that he was waiting for her to elaborate, she added "Considering you have analysed and planned everything to such a great extent... it has to work." When looking pleased with the response he mumbled "I really hope so." her shoulders slumped in relief and she reprimanded herself, Naina, stop mindlessly drooling over him and pay attention to what he is saying!
After some time, their conversation moved to their families.
Sameer conveyed messages from Deepika, Ollie and Kabir. Some news of Rohan and Sanjana settling down in their newly married life was covered as well.
He then excused himself for couple of minutes and returned with a small bag with 'Duty Free' printed in large lettering. Handing it to her, he smiled "Something I picked up for you on the way." As she started to object "Sameer, what was the need for this..." he cut her short "It's just a perfume. I hope you like it. Deepu has sent some gifts for you, but I haven't got around to unpacking yet. Will give those to you later."
Naina muttered "Thank you... but you really shouldn't have." Then she added feeling guilty "Sameer, you have already spent so much money on all those phone calls. I hadn't realised just how much it must be costing you... till I called you that day." He shrugged "Don't worry about it... it's much cheaper when I use a phone card. That way it's just the cost of two coffees!"
Learning this new information, Naina wondered, If the cost of two coffees is the same as the charges of an international call lasting over fifteen minutes... just how expensive are coffees in London?! Even the cold coffee with ice-cream at Shiv Sagar is for Rs 10.50!
Oblivious of the calculations running through her mind, Sameer insisted "Naina, try the perfume! I want to see if you like it. It's so hard to predict someone's taste in perfumes... but I just couldn't think of anything else." He chose to leave out the part about how the gift was a last-minute decision after some nudging from his sister.
Naina pulled out a white box with golden lettering from the plastic bag. She wasn't familiar with the name J'adore printed at the top, but her eyes almost popped reading the brand name Dior towards the bottom. As she sat staring at it uncertainly, he impatiently urged her "Go on... open it!"
Opening the box very carefully, she drew out the slender, teardrop shaped bottle in hues of gold. "It's the latest from Dior. Just released this year!" his eyes shone with anticipation as she removed the golden lid and sprayed it sparingly on her wrist. Some ten seconds later Naina found herself enveloped in a tantalising mist of an exquisite floral scent which was light and fresh without been overtly sweet, unlike anything she had ever worn before.
"It's so beautiful! I love it!" she declared her eyes twinkling with appreciation for both the gift and the giver. Drawing her wrist closer he inhaled deeply and announced with darkened eyes "j'adore... It suits you. I knew it would..."
Though she did not catch the relevance of the name of the perfume in that moment, Naina blushed as his thumb continued to caress the inside of her wrist. Feeling increasingly flustered under his heated gaze, she tried to defuse the tension "Thank you, but I should have been the one getting you a gift! After all it was you who had a birthday recently!"
To her surprise, he replied "I completely agree. I should get a birthday gift! So, what do you have in mind?" Sameer could literally see the wheels in her brain turning as she tried to come up with some ideas. "If you can't think of anything... let me know. I definitely have a few ideas." he drawled.
Not sure if she was correctly interpreting the implications behind his vague words, Naina mumbled "No! The gift should be my idea! What's the fun in asking someone what they want? I mean, it should be a surprise, right?"
His eyes glinted in amusement, as she desperately tried to change the topic and spent the next few minutes giving him detailed account of some mundane happenings at home. Still the same old blushing bundle of nerves... So eager to change the subject?? But I am just getting started. Oh Naina... This is going to be so much fun!
Letting her off the hook for the time being, Sameer enquired about her grandmother's health. Naina shared with a glad heart "Nani is responding well to the medication. The doctor is happy with postponing the surgery for a few months." After pondering on this information, Sameer asked "But if the surgery is inevitable, why postpone it? Why take avoidable risks?"
Naina paled as she started second guessing the decision to postpone the surgery. She muttered "But the doctor said it's alright if we need some more time..." He immediately reasoned "More time for what? Naina, at her age, I don't think it's wise to delay the treatment. Currently the problem is in one valve, but it's putting too much stress on the rest of her system. Even if she seems to be doing alright at the moment, we shouldn't assume it's not adversely affecting her."
Fidgeting with her dupatta, she mumbled as the agitation in her heart grew "I suppose you are right... I will talk to her doctor again." Sameer squeezed her hand reassuringly "Don't worry. I just think we should avoid unnecessary delays."
The phone rang and Sameer grudgingly headed to answer it. It turned out that one of his mother's cousin was calling to check on him.
As Sameer answered the seemingly unending questions from his aunt, Naina walked over to a large shelf lining one wall of the living room. Some decorative pieces were placed on it, along with some books. There was also a photo frame with an elder couple's photo.
Feeling nostalgic, she picked up the photo frame for a closer look. Nanaji looked a little younger in the photo than when she had met him. Naina assumed the elder petite woman must have been his Naniji. It looked like the photo was clicked during one of their visits to London, as the iconic Big Ben could be spotted in the background.
A part of her was relieved to see his grandmother looking a little uncomfortable and not so elegantly dressed in the big overcoat and scarf over her saree. Seeing the easy grace and confidence with his mother and sister carried themselves in all the western wear, Naina had at times found herself feeling a little apprehensive about her ability to assimilate in their world.
Her eyes flickered back to his grandfather. As she gazed at him fondly, her heart started speaking to him out of habit, Nanaji, I can't believe that I'm standing in your home! He has returned to Ahmedabad! You would have been happy to see him here. He's joining your business. I just hope he enjoys it... and doesn't regret this move... I wonder how he will manage it? Please bless his new venture with success. A small pause later, she added feeling very emotional, And bless us too.
Putting the photo frame down, Naina moved along the shelf towards the small collection of books there. Amid few biographies of famous personalities, a couple travel guides of probably counties Nanaji had visited, a volume of Shakespeare's Sonnets caught her eye.
Pulling out the book Naina lightly traced the golden words embossed on the maroon hardcopy cover. Going by the faded cover and the yellowed pages inside it was evident that the book was quite old. Naina carefully opened it and gently flipped through it, pausing to read a passage here and there, till her eyes landed on one of her favourites which she had studied in her convent school.
Sonnet 116
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.
The memory of Sister Beatrice passionately reciting the lines and trying infuse some enthusiasm in the young girls for the classics sprang to her mind.
As she read the words now, Naina mused to herself that Shakespeare would have probably found their love worth writing about. For had it not withstood all the tests he had laid out in this sonnet?
She was so lost in thoughts that she did not realise that Sameer had ended the call, till he stood close behind her. Resting his one hand on her shoulder, he shared "That book was very dear to Nanu. He was extremely fond of Shakespeare from his university days. After his wedding, he had bought this book for Nani and used to read it to her."
Naina was surprised "Was she so good at English?!" He smiled "She didn't speak a word of English, but she was fond of poetry. Nanu used to translate the poems to her." He chuckled softly "Either it was his way of romancing her with poetry, or he was trying to impress her with his English! Either way, it worked. Cause she absolutely doted on him! We used to tease them that they definitely had a secret language that they did not share with any of us. She would always anticipate what Nanu might want without his saying a word!"
Sameer's voice turned wistful as he went on "She unexpectedly passed away a few years before him. Nanu was never quite the same after her. Mom kept on asking him to visit us more frequently, but he chose to immerse himself in work to keep the loneliness at bay."
Giving his hand a small squeeze, Naina muttered "He was a wonderful person. I feel privileged to have met him." Sameer nodded and then as something suddenly clicked in his brain a reflective look clouded his eyes "He was right about you... I didn't realise what he was trying to tell me back then."
Seeing her questioning gaze, he said "He had cautioned me to stay away from you." Naina uttered sounding flustered "Did he not like me? But he was so nice to me..." Squashing her doubt "It was quite the opposite! He really liked you." he carried on in a remorseful voice "He wanted to save you from pain I ended up giving you."
Naina visibly paled and stood still momentarily lost for words.
Taking her silence as an acknowledgment of his wrongdoing, Sameer started to withdraw his hand from her shoulder. All these days, wanting to focus on the hopeful future, he had refrained from bringing up certain distressing topics during their phone calls. But it had just been a matter of time.
Sensing him starting to move away, Naina quickly turned around and clasped his hand. Her voice was a little wobbly, but her resolve shone through strong and clear, "Sameer, I won't lie. The last few years have been painful... and for a while I did blame you for a lot of it. But now I don't. So, please don't blame yourself."
She continued with a pensive expression "I am not saying I can discard all the pain in a moment, but I don't want to cling to it either. There are still times when I feel overwhelmed, but I have not allowed it to crush me and nor will I."
Eyes brimming with admiration and lips curved in a slight smile, he remarked fondly "I came here prepared to play the knight in shining armour, but I was mistaken. My Harinakshi must have been a warrior princess and does not need any rescuing!"
A whirlpool of emotions seized her, as Naina mumbled "Do you really remember everything? Even that name?" He countered in a fake complaining tone "Well, unlike some people who claim to barely remember anything... I have a very good memory!"
She muttered confused "When did I say that?" He smirked "So now you don't even remember that! I think I am going to start buying you almonds instead of chocolates. Hmmm... let's see if this rings a bell. You said that just before leaving me completely stranded... in the middle of a..."
Realisation hit her that he was referring to the remark she had made to him on the dance floor, the night of the cocktail party. Naina coloured at the memory of his resulting visit to her room that night. "Looks like you do remember after all!" Sameer tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear.
It felt so good to be close to him after so long. But a little unnerving too. Naina suddenly felt extremely affected by his proximity.
Unaware of the butterflies already invading her stomach, he whispered huskily "I like your hair like this. The longer length suits you." His eyes moved to her luscious lips as she muttered a shaky "Thank you..." Sameer was still thinking of how much he had been looking forward to kissing her properly, when she added "I like yours a little longer too. Why have you cut it so short?"
Momentarily distracted, he chuckled "I don't want to worry about finding a decent barber here for as long as possible!" Naina nodded "Yes, that makes sense. And you will be too busy with the work to bother about all these other things." She then continued in a more authoritative tone "But don't cut it so short next time. I would really like to see it the way it used to be back then!"
Sameer hummed trailing his one thumb along her left cheek till it stopped just a few millimetres from her corner of her lips. He then asked his voice sounding a little hoarse "Can you guess what I would really like??" She shook her head, but the nervous blush creeping up her cheeks said otherwise.
He started leaning towards her uttering softly "Naina, I missed you so much..."
Naina felt like none of the adjectives that she had ever come across for describing the fast beating of hearts would suffice in that moment. Because her heart was thumping, racing, fluttering, galloping, and doing so much more! But along with the excitement, there was still a small dilemma lingering in her heart. Are we going too fast again? He has just come back... This time, we should take it slow, right? What should I tell him? Will he be upset? Maybe... but I should still stop him! Right??
Luckily, she was saved by the bell. Literally.
Sameer pulled away as the doorbell rang nosily. He cast a surprised glance in the direction of the entrance and headed towards it muttering grumpily "Who the hell is here at this time of the day?! And how can someone drop in unannounced like this??"
