📺Zoo TV📺
The very familiar rap, "Television, the Drug of a Nation" was playing. Celestina ran her hands all over her body, trying to find anything about herself that had somehow changed. She also couldn't get enough of just looking at other people at the concert, although it was hard to see with the patches of darkness over them. It was all so fascinating.
"Television, the drug of the Nation, breeding ignorance and feeding radiation, T. V., it satellite links, our United States of unconciousness, apathetic, therapeutic, and extremely addictive..."
The stage, all aglow, looked like a plethora of golden intricacies, tied together by the string of pearls which were really a row of lights toward the top of the stage. Celestina couldn't see this from where she was at the base of the stage, but from farther away it all would have punctuated the blackness that was the night like a diamond in the rough.
"The methadone metronome pumping out, 150 channels 24 hours a day, you can flip through all of them and still there's nothing worth watching"
It was a marvelous experience already. Above stage right there was a sign shining way up high that said "ZOO" in red, with "TV" inside of it.
"T. V. Is the reason why less than ten percent of our nation reads books daily, why most people think Central America means Kansas,
socialism means unamerican, and Apartheid is a new headache remedy"
Celestina wondered what the band would think if they were informed at this moment how much more of a general anti-intellectualism there would be in years to come. To her the media seemed even more "unconscious, apathetic, therapeutic, and extremely addictive" in 2018.
"Absorbed in it's world it's so hard to find us, it shapes our minds the most, maybe the mother of our Nation should remind us that we're sitting to close to..."
Celestina wondered for a moment whether her body had actually time traveled, or just her mind had come here and her real body was still in... Uh... The future? It felt very strange if the present was indeed the future and the past was now the present... Was this real? Was this further proof that all time is eternally present? What was really real though anyway?... Did any of this even matter?
"...Television, the drug of the Nation, breeding ignorance and feeding radiation, T. V. Is the stomping ground for political candidates..."
The song was fading out, but was it because of the loudness of the audience or the sound itself becoming quieter? She couldn't tell, but she simply loved being somewhere like this with the cool night, the stunning glow of the stage, and all the excitement.
The main screen on stage began to show what looked like a bright blue portal. It opened to show the imagery and sound of a man playing a drum. The other screens showed people doing various things in the same bright blue colour. Seemingly random words like "want" flashed across the screens.
The sound of a man's voice said, "it's very simple." Classical music came on, accompanying the imagery. The voice said, "what do you want?" several times, and some other voices muttered in the background. Celestina also caught sight of a picture of The Simpsons, as well as one very alluring picture of Bono in a bathtub.
The speakers played a crashing sound that cut through the music, and soon enough, the introduction was over and the show was replacing it. This was met with infinite hands clapping above infinite heads, all held by the red glow shining onto them.
It was time for Zoo TV!
