~Rainflower~
"You realize I have to kill you right?"
She could only nod. What else could you do when it's your last day to live. She was mesmerized by the most beautiful sunrise in front of us. Part of me wanted to enjoy it with her, but my inner killer told me not to.
"I truly am sorry... I have a mission, and you know it has to be completed."
I looked towards the ground. Our legs dangled over the long drop. A cold sweat arose on my brow as I looked down. God damn heights.
A squeak came from next to me.
"Huh?" I turned towards her. Her soft blonde hair glowed in the upcoming light. Her green eyes glistened like water.
"Thank you." She whispered softly. From her eyes, only a single tear.
"Don't thank me. You deserve this peace before all of the misfortune comes." I respond endearingly.
I follow her attention to the sunrise. The mixture of blues, yellows, oranges, and purples warms my cold heart for only a second. My eyes have never seen anything so beautiful, so calming.
I shake my head. Remember the mission. The small syringe in my right coat pocket feels as if it's burning me. It contains the poison that will end this woman's life. A poison, undetected in the human body post-mortem. This is the only way I can cover up the truth.
"Will it hurt?" She suddenly spoke.
Her words distracted me from the burning sensation in my pocket.
"It will not hurt. I will simply inject the poison, and it will feel as if you were falling asleep."
She nodded. "I'm ready."
Time was running out, as the sun crept closer and closer to the sky.
I take the syringe, and it's clear contents, and push it into her arm.
"Goodbye, my beautiful sin. I wish to see you in the stars." I say to her.
She smiles. As I push the liquid out on the syringe, and into her arm, she smiles. She smiles at the sun, at her life, and at me.
And as her watery green eyes blinked their last blink, I could see all she could feel was peace.
Her eyes closed, and I caught her body as it fell backward. I cross her hands over her midsection and lay a single Rainflower.
It meant that I apologize for my sins and that I would never forget her. The flower lay on her chest, and as I pulled out my gun, it killed me to see such a beautiful sight.
I cocked my gun and looked away, I could never watch. As the gunshot blasted, it echoed for miles throughout the scenery.
"I'm sorry Amelia, but it had to be done."
I put my gun back into its holster, grab my bag and walk out of part of the Grand Canyon.
