chapter ten
Ju-Hee sighed and looked at the boxes stuffed with her belongings, covering the whole place. She had moved into Theodore's house after two days since they got married. The wedding band sat on her finger which sometimes made her feel vulnerable and burdened. She picked up one of the boxes, moving towards the store room which Theodore had cleaned so she could claim the room for herself. A loud noise startled her and she almost dropped the box but was quick to balance.
She turned around to find Theodore standing in the fireplace, brushing dust from his clothes.
On noticing her, he passed a smile,"Oh hi."
Ju-Hee nodded and bowed before entering the room. It looked rather dark since it wasn't used by anyone over the past years.
"Do you need any help?" Theodore asked, leaning by the door. Ju-Hee shook her head as a no and pulled out her wand. In mere seconds, she completed moving her belongings in the room and cleaning the mess. She cooked some dinner for the two which consisted of bagon and some eggs.
The two sat silently on the dinner table and ate what they had on their plates. Ju-Hee looked everywhere but him. She didn't know it would be this uncomfortable to move in with someone she had never spoken to. ( properly )
"Are you still going to work at the pub?" Theodore's voice startled her as she gripped the spoon tightly.
"Yes." She answered,"I need to look after my brother and maybe I can help you in paying the rent seeing that I'm also living here."
Ju-Hee lowered her eyes as she finished answering, playing with the food on her plate. She left out the part that she would have to probably look after her father too since they had no income.
"You married me. That's why we're living together. You don't need to pay the rent."
Hearing the word married made Ju-Hee feel uneasy. She couldn't even blame him for the contract marriage since she badly wanted to escape marrying the madman her father had set her up with.
"Okay." She finally said, feeling his eyes on herself. She wanted to ask what he wanted to do or how he was going to earn money but since she felt it might invade his privacy, she kept quiet.
After finishing, Ju-Hee picked up their plates and placed them in the sink.
"Ju-Hee?"
A chill ran down her spine, hearing her name rolling off his tongue. It was probably the first time he addressed her using her name. She turned around to find him standing right in front of him.
"Yes?" She asked timidly.
"All the residents except the landlady , in this building are muggles. So if you were to ever use magic, make sure no - one's around."
"Oh!" Ju-Hee exclaimed, nodding her head,"Right!"
Theodore was about to leave when he remembered something to tell her.
"And also, the landlady kinda dislikes the use of magic."
Ju-Hee frowned. She is a witch then why would she hate magic.
"She was experimenting with something when it suddenly blasted and her husband was affected. He lost his leg." Theodore explained but he himself knew only a bit as the landlady was reluctant to tell him.
Ju-Hee nodded, making a mental note to be cautious if she ever uses magic.
"Do you need any help?" He asked further, pointing at the dishes in the sink.
"Oh ,no. I'll do it quickly." She assured, earning a nod from Theodore.
"Well , then, goodnight." He had a small smile on his face as he said so.
"Goodnight." Ju-Hee smiled and watched as he left.
The next morning, Ju-Hee got ready to leave for the bookstore she worked during the morning hours. She was in the kitchen, making breakfast for the two of them when Theodore walked in, rubbing his eyes.
"Good morning." He yawned, startling Ju-Hee who turned around and smiled. He was still in his night suit, with his hair messy and eyes droopy. He looked cute.
"Are you making breakfast?" He asked, standing next to her which made Ju-Hee feel weird in her stomach.
"Yes. I should at least do this since I live here." She answered, lowering her eyes.
"Hey." Theodore sighed, making her look at him with questioning eyes,"I think you're stressing a lot about living here with me without having to pay for the rent. But you should not worry. It's really fine with me."
Ju-Hee nodded and flipped the pancakes.
She served breakfast by the time Theodore got fresh. The two sat in silence, eating their breakfast like the day before. Ju-Hee sighed mentally, her mind wandering off about how she was going to survive in this house which just made her feel uneasy and awkward.
"What will you be doing?" Ju-Hee didn't know how that question rolled off her tongue but it just did. Theodore was surprised that she actually spoke rather than being quiet and keeping to herself all the time.
"I need to think about that." He answered,"I'll probably run out of money my father left behind so I'll have to look for a job."
His thoughts went back to the manor and he wondered if it would be a good idea to sell it.
Ju-Hee nodded and smiled,"I'll see you later."
With that, she stood up and placed her plate in the sink before walking out of the apartment. She accidentally bumped into an old lady with blonde hair who had a grumpy expression on her face.
"I'm sorry." The younger one , immediately apologised as she bowed repeatedly. The old woman stared at her for a few seconds, analysing her from head to toe which made Ju-Hee feel uncomfortable.
"Are you the new bride?"
Ju-Hee found that question really weird.
"I recently moved in with Theodore." She explained while the old woman analysed her with narrow eyes,"My husband."
"Oh, the young wizard!" She whispered and the frown on her head disappeared,"It's nice meeting you."
Ju-Hee heard the apartment door being opened and turned around to find Theodore approaching them.
"You're still here?" He questioned, scratching the back of his neck. He then turned his gaze towards the old lady and said,"Oh this is the landlady, Mrs.Jones."
Ju-Hee realised why the old lady was being so cautious and sneaky towards her.
"This is my wife." Theodore introduced,"Kim Ju-Hee."
"Kim?" The frown was back on the older head.
"Ju-Hee Nott." The younger woman immediately corrected, looking at her husband for a split second before focusing back on the landlady.
"Oh." The landlady nodded,"It's a nice name."
"Thank you." Ju-Hee forced a smile and pretended to check the watch,"I'm running late. I'll see you later."
"Yeah. Go on." Theodore urged, gently pushing her forward, his hands on either side of her shoulders.
