chapter nine

Ju-Hee stared at her reflection. She had worn a floral dress and paired it with red sandals. Only a week was left for her marriage. Theodore had asked her to accompany him in buying clothes for the wedding. She felt reluctant to go out with a man but she soon realised, she was going to marry him so she should actually spend some time with him.

"Take care." She heard her brother say as she turned around and smiled at him before walking out.

The two had decided to meet at a new shop Ju-Hee had discovered in Diagon Alley. After the war,  she had first asked to work at that specific shop but the owner didn't need any workers at that moment so she was turned down after which she finally got to work at the pub.

She smiled once she saw Theodore outside the shop, dressed in a sky- blue shirt and a trouser.

"Hello." Ju-Hee greeted him, captivated by his good looks and styled hair.

"Oh, you're here!" Theodore smiled, leading her inside the shop,"I thought you were not coming."

"Sorry, i was reluctant to come at first."

Theodore nodded in response before changing the topic,"So do you want to look for your dress first? We can see mine later."

"As you wish." Ju-Hee shrugged. The two of them finally decided on looking for Ju-Hee's wedding dress. She picked out a simple, white gown and held it for Theodore to see.

"You should try it on." Theodore urged. Ju-Hee nodded and entered the trial room. She felt a bit reluctant to try it on and have theodore see her in the dress. After all, he was still a stranger to her. Theodore watched as Ju-Hee walked out of the trial room and stood in front of him, finding it difficult to manage the eye contact. His eyes raked her body and seeing the way she stood so timidly, he immediately looked away.

"I think it looks good on you." He said , stuffing his hands in the pocket of his trousers,"What about you? Do you like it?"

"Yeah." Ju-Hee nodded, lightly touching the fabric of her dress.

"Okay, get changed and then we can go find one for me."

It didn't take long for them to finally settle on the dresses. Ju-Hee was still in awe that such a day had arrived in her life where she went to buy a wedding dress for herself.

The day finally arrived and Ju-Hee was still surprised. How did she get into this? She looked out the window to find everyone busy with the preparations. They couldn't find a spot for the ceremony so Ju-Hee suggested that they have a garden large enough to accommodate the guests. She sat in her room, wearing her wedding dress and stared at the door. Anytime, her brother would walk in and she would walk down the aisle with her father by her side.

That man was the most excited of them all but Ju-Hee couldn't understand why. Did he badly want to get rid of her ? Even after she tried everything to mend their relationship ?

She would never know.

A knock on the door, interrupted her thoughts and she suddenly felt a shiver run down her spine. She didn't want the moment to arrive this early. Standing up, Ju-Hee walked to the door and unlocked it to find her brother at the door. He was dressed in a black tuxedo.

That moment was when she realised she didn't get much time to spend with the older. After they conciled, she was busy making money and solving her own problems. She had requested him multiple times to visit a hospital but he declined every time and got upset. Ju-Hee knew he hated hospitals as that was the place where their mother died but he should at least look after his health.

"It's time." Du-Sik said, bringing her back to earth,"They're waiting for you."

"Oh." Ju-Hee nodded, grabbing the veil hanging on the chair in her room. She stood in front of the mirror and fixed it in such a way that it covered her face. Du-Sik walked up to her and smiled as she turned around to face him.

"You look pretty."

Letting out a small chuckle, Ju-Hee beamed,"Thank you."

"Are you ready?" He asked, his tone changing. Ju-Hee shook her head,"No. But I don't have any choice. I didn't think the day would arrive this early. I don't feel like leaving."

"I'm sure you'll be fine with him." Du-Sik patted soothingly on her shoulder.

"Promise to visit me every weekend." She spoke up abruptly, earning a chuckle from the older.

"Will you be okay with him?" Ju-Hee felt like she was escaping and leaving him alone in the place they could hardly call home,"If things go out of hand, let me know."

"I'll be fine. Don't worry." He assured, fixing his tie before asking ,"Shall we go?"

Ju-Hee took a deep breath and nodded,"Yes."

She held onto his arms and walked out of the room to meet their father by the entrance of the house. He too was dressed up in a tuxedo. Ju-Hee hoped he would say something but he didn't say anything at all. She grabbed the bouquet of flowers he was holding and with one last look at her brother, she wrapped her hand around her father's arm.

Music played as the two of them walked down the aisle. She had her eyes lowered the whole way to the altar and when she looked up she found Theodore in front of her. He looked astonishingly handsome in the black tuxedo. Theodore smiled at her and gently held her hand in his.

They had no bridesmaid, flowergirl, etc. The guests included some of theodore's friends and some acquaintances of Ju-Hee's father.

It was time to uplift the veil . Ju-Hee suddenly felt extremely nervous as she looked at Theodore who looked unsure. She gave him a tap on the hand which made him look at her. She nodded hoping he would understand her signal to lift the veil. Mr. Lee interrupted, asking the priest to begin the ceremony. Ju-Hee sighed, watching as Theodore immediately treated his hand back.

The couples exchanged rings and then the priest declared them as husband and wife.

The time for the kiss arrived which Ju-Hee dreaded ever since the morning. She felt Theodore wrap his arms around her waist, making her stare at him in surprise. He looked conflicted whether to kiss her or not, noticing the way her body stiffened up at his touch.

Ju-Hee leaned in, knowing her father would feel suspicious if they acted like strangers. She stopped centimetres away from his lips, unsure if he wanted to escape the situation but she got her answer as a no as he closed the gap between them. Ju-Hee had never kissed anyone in her entire life.

True, it was her first kiss.

As for theodore, he had kissed a number of girls before so it didn't affect him much.

Ju-Hee was quick to pull away as she felt heat rushing up to her cheeks.

It was time to greet the guests and so they walked down the stairs to meet everyone.

"Congratulations mate!" Blaise grinned , raising the glass of wine he had in his hand.

"Thank you." Theodore forced a smile. It was difficult for him to explain it to his friends how he suddenly made up his mind to get married and to a girl he had never ever spoken to.

"I always knew you had a thing for her." Blaise teased, whispering in his ear.

"Will you shut up?" Theodore hissed, forcing a smile when Ju-Hee looked at him as his tone had changed.

After greeting everyone, Ju-Hee walked up to her father while Theodore decided to stay with his friends, drinking and talking about anything and everything.

"You are a wife now." Was the first thing Mr.Kim said as his daughter stood in front of her,"You're not a kid anymore. Make sure you don't mess things up."

"Yes." Ju-Hee nodded.

"I'm still amazed how that boy managed to fall in love with you." The older said as he looked at his son in law for spilt seconds before focusing his gaze on his daughter,"Didn't he freak out because of those weeds growing on your face?"

Ju-Hee looked at her father, then at Theodore and back again at her father.

"He finds them pretty." Ju-Hee resisted the urge to smile as she reminisced the note he had left.

"I'm sure he does." Mr. Kim chuckled,"I'm glad you got married."

Ju-Hee nodded, unsure if she should ask as to why he was so eager to get her married. She didn't want to feel more bad for herself so she kept quiet and joined Theodore.
