chapter four

Ju-Hee watched from afar as theodore sipped on his firewhiskey. He looked rather exhausted that day. He looked up when feeling someone's gaze upon himself and Ju-Hee immediately looked away.

Her cheeks and ears felt hot. She didn't mean to stare at him but something inside her made her curious. He seemed lonely.

Slowly, the customers left the pub except him. He kept staring into nothingness with his hand under his chin.

Ju-Hee walked up to him and shook his shoulders lightly to bring him back to the earth. Theodore was startled as he incredulously stared at her.

She pointed at the empty glass.

"Oh, can i get a refill?" He asked, scratching the back of his neck.

"You've already had five. are you sure?" Ju-Hee questioned, tilting her head to the side. Theodore just nodded and smiled in response.

"Okay then." Ju-Hee nodded to herself and picked up the empty glass to get a refill. She walked back and quietly placed the glass on the table. She debated on whether she should make sure if he was okay or go back to cleaning the dishes.

"Are you okay?" She finally asked.

Theodore lifted his head up and looked her in the eyes. A smile broke on his face. It has been so long since someone asked him if he was okay.

"No." He replied with a smile on his face. Ju-Hee furrowed her eyebrows and watched as he slowly drank the whole glass.

"Are you just gonna stand there and stare at me?" Theodore chuckled as he put the glass down.

Ju-Hee looked down at her feet and took a step back. She felt afraid. She didn't know what was wrong with him but he just gave her a weird feeling. He seemed like a maniac to her. She slowly retreated back to the kitchen, occasionally checking up on her customer who was still sat at the table. He was just staring at nothing.

The clock struck eleven and Ju-Hee walked up to theodore. She couldn't just tell him to leave at once.

"Do you feel better now?" She didn't know what else to ask him,"do you want me to bring you some water?"

Theodore shook his head and got up on his feet, slapping the money on the table. "Thank you." He smiled at her and walked out of the pub. Ju-Hee looked at the money with a frown on her face and quietly followed him out.

"Are you sure you'll be able to. . ." She stopped midway and blinked her eyes, her hands holding onto the handle of the entrance door.

The street was deserted. He was nowhere to be seen.

Ju-Hee sighed and walked back to the table he was sitting on. She picked up the money he had placed on the table when she noticed a piece of parchment kept neatly besides his empty glass. How come she hadn't noticed it before?

She debated on whether she should open the parchment or just return it to him, the next time he comes. Out of curiosity, she unfolded the parchment and blinked twice to make sure she had read it correctly.

The flowers are pretty, it read.

Ju-Hee closed the door behind herself and quietly tiptoed to her bedroom. She had no intention to bump into her father. She was quite happy that day and she didn't want to ruin it. She wasn't sure what made her happy though.

The fact that she had received a good amount of money from the owner of the pub or the note that the mysterious pureblood had left.

Was he really talking about the flowers on her cheeks? She wasn't sure.

She shook the thoughts away and placed the money safely in her wardrobe. She looked at the wall clock to find it was almost twelve.

Who left the door open? She wondered.

Ju-Hee exited her room and strolled to her brother's bedroom. She knocked on the door thrice and waited for him to open.

What was taking him so long? She held the knob and twisted it to find that the door wasn't locked.

She walked inside and called for Du-Sik,"Oppa?" She looked around and headed towards the bathroom. She could hear the running water.

"Oppa?" She knocked on the door and waited for a response. The tap turned off and Du-Sik meekly spoke,"Oh. . Ju-Hee. ."

"Oppa? are you okay?" Ju-Hee asked, worry lacing her tone,"Oppa?"

She didn't hear any response. Instead she heard him coughing. Without a second thought, she pushed the door open and stared wide eyed at Du-Sik. His hair was all over the place, sweat beads on his forehead and blood near his lips. He quickly wiped his face with the towel he had in his hand and put up a smile.

"Are you okay?" She rushed to him and held his arm in concern. Du-Sik pushed her hand away and nodded.

Ju-Hee furrowed her eyes together and followed him out. "What's wrong with you?" She questioned as Du-Sik put the towel away and prepared his bed.

"What? nothing." He shrugged and plopped down on his bed with a sigh.

"Are you sick?" Ju-Hee ignored his answer and proceeded to ask.

"Ju-Hee." He sternly said making her look up at him,"please, just leave me alone." Du-Sik knew he was being rude but he felt weird seeing her worried for him. He has been living as if she was non existent and her sudden indulgent in his life made him feel

different. He appreciated the fact that she was trying her best not to make things awkward but it was him who couldn't do much. Ju-Hee didn't speak a single word and moved towards the door.

"Fine." She shrugged, sparing him a small glance,"I'll make sure you don't step your foot outside until you're perfectly fine. I won't be going to work either."

It took Du-Sik a few seconds for her words to sink in his head. "Yah!" He called but seeing as she had already left the room, he sat down on his bed.

He took out some stomachache pills from his cupboard and walked downstairs.

"Are you cooking dinner?" He asked Ju-Hee as he grabbed a glass of water and chugged the pill down.

"Hmm, i will but before that i need to make some tea for you." Ju-Hee replied, turning the stove on.

"For me?" Du-Sik asked and sat down on the dining chair.

"Yeah. you look distressed so tea might help you relax." She answered, chopping the ginger root.

"You didn't have to. ." Du-Sik started but stopped mid way.

"It's fine. i love cooking anyway." She murmured to herself, stirring the tea and smiling at the aroma. She immediately poured the tea in a cup and handed it to Du-Sik who smiled at her before taking a sip.

"It's strong." He murmured to himself and immediately stood up on his feet when he felt the bitter liquid running down his throat

. "Aish." He grumbled, putting the cup away and made a sour face which made Ju-Hee let out a light chuckle.

"You're enjoying it, aren't you?" He playfully frowned and folded his arms across his chest.

Ju-Hee shook her head and with a smile she spoke,"It feels like home."

Du-Sik's frown fell and he found the corner of his lips twitching in a comforting smile. He was happy now that everything was sorted between them. It felt nice to have a sister who took care of him just like his mother did.
