chapter five

Du-Sik's condition was worsening and Ju-Hee couldn't help but worry about him. She constantly tried to take him to some hospital but he always refused. He just didn't want to waste the money she earned on himself.

"You're giving me no other option rather than staying back here with you." She sighed and sat down next to him on the couch. The television was playing some english music in the background. "

You don't have to. just go." The older mumbled without sparing her a glance.

"I'm not going." Ju-Hee grumbled and flinched a bit when she heard someone knocking on the door. "I'll go get it." She said and jogged up the front door. She cautiously moved away to give her father some space to enter and quietly closed the door behind herself.

The consequence, Du-Sik got up from the couch and headed upstairs, Ju-Hee doing the same.

Seconds later she heard her father calling out for her which made her rush downstairs. She stood in front of her father with a questioning expression residing on her face. Mr.Kim gave her a small smile and patted the empty space next to him. His actions confused Ju-Hee a bit as she hesitantly sat down next to him on the couch.

Releasing a happy sigh, he looked up at her.

"You've always reminded me of your mother. The same beautiful eyes and the pretty smile."

Ju-Hee knew he purposefully avoided looking at her flower - scattered cheeks.

"The two of us would always talk about your future. It's a pity she isn't here to watch you grow up."

Why was he talking nonsense all of a sudden? Ju-Hee was utterly confused.

"Can you just get straight to the point?" The girl didn't want to sound rude but her father was annoying her in some way by sugarcoating his words.

Something twitched in the old man's eyes but he didn't let the anger linger on his face. he was unusually calm.

"Do you remember Mr. lee ?" Ju-Hee wasn't having a good feeling about the conversation she was getting into.

"Yes." She meekly nodded and fiddled with her fingers. Mr.lee was a family friend who was a death eater. He was lucky enough to not get thrown in azkaban.

"He's throwing a birthday party for his son. He's a year older than you if i remember right. " Her father went on,"He invited us to the party as well. I'm not feeling well so i won't be going."

Ju-Hee blinked, waiting for him to say something as he took a gulp of the alcohol.

"You must go. He sent us a special invitation. And remember, behave nicely."

"Is it necessary?" Ju-Hee immediately regretted saying those words as she noticed the change in expression on her father's face. He looked furious.

"You don't have anything else to do. Just go." He snarled, glaring at her.

"Du-Sik oppa is sick-"

"I SAID JUST GO!" He roared, throwing the alcohol bottle in her direction but she was quick to step away. The bottle crashed making a loud noise.

"What's going on?" Du-Sik ran down the stairs, his eyes going wide at the broken pieces of glass on the floor. He stopped next to Ju-Hee who had her head held down in shame.

Before Du-Sik could ask her again, he watched as his father got up from the couch and stumbled inside his room.

"What was that?" He inquired finding the girl shivering in fear. He pulled her in a hug and stroked her hair to calm her down.

Once Ju-Hee calmed down, she spoke,

"He wants me to go to this pure blood party his friend is throwing. I refused so he started yelling and threw the bottle in anger."

"Just don't go. I'll handle him." Du-Sik frowned, glaring at the door to his father's room.

Ju-Hee didn't want them to get in a fight so she shook her head no.

"I'll go and greet Mr lee and then maybe I can leave."

"Are you sure?" Du-Sik didn't know why she was adamant to go now. She was probably scared of the outrage of her father.

"Yes , I'll be fine."

Feeling almost everyone's gaze upon herself, Ju-Hee fiddled with her fingers as she cluelessly looked around. She wished she'd stayed home and helped Du-Sik with cleaning the house after her dad had came home drunk and had thrown the bottle.

The thought made Ju-Hee sigh as she looked around to see if she could find any familiar faces.

"Is that you?" Hearing a familiar voice she instantly turned around to be met with the certain brown eyes.

The boy's mouth slightly fell open in surprise as he didn't expect her to be around. Not at a pureblood event.

Was she a pureblood? He wondered. He shook the thought away. It didn't matter.

"Oh hello!" Ju-Hee nervously exclaimed. A faint smile ghosted theodore's lips as he nodded in acknowledgement.

"Never imagined to see you anywhere but here." He admitted, noticing the way she looked almost distressed and lost.

Ju-Hee didn't know how to respond so she just shrugged. Theodore stole a glance at her and then it hit him like a truck. The flowers. The treasure she had hidden her whole life were no longer behind the veil.

She looked extremely beautiful with her rosy cheeks adorned with the alluring flowers.

"Do you feel uncomfortable?" Theodore questioned, looking around to find almost everyone eyeing the girl up and down.

Ju-Hee lowered her eyes and bit the inside of her cheek.

"They're staring at you. murmuring to each other." Theodore spoke.

"They are." Ju-Hee merely nodded with a sigh, mentally blaming her brother for pursuing her to no longer hide her face.

"Ignore them." Theodore chuckled making Ju-Hee look up at him,"that's what they do. stare at you as if you're a fucking piece of shit."

Ju-Hee didn't know how to reply to his answer and chose to stay quiet.

"The flowers. ." Theodore trailed off as his pupils dilated,"Weren't there purple hyacinth before? now it's yellow tulips. I'm sorry i didn't mean to invade or anything but i just happen to see you that day in the rain you know-"

"It's fine. Doesn't matter anymore." Ju-Hee smiled at him and gave him a nod of assurance.

"Wait, really? I thought you felt ashamed and afraid-"

"Yeah i was stupid for that. People around made me feel that it was some sort of disease." She admitted which made theodore feel pity for the girl. He found the flowers beautiful.

"But i realised, it's a part of me and i shouldn't be ashamed of it." She added immediately.

Ju-Hee felt bad for lying to him but she didn't how to tell him that she and her brother purposefully did this so that her father won't send her anywhere in the future.

"That's great!" Theodore passed her a small smile and nodded. It felt good knowing that she won't have to hide the flowers anymore.

"Do you wanna. ." The words flowed out of his mouth as he held out his hand,"do you wanna dance with me?"

Ju-Hee looked up at him in surprise and found her cheeks and ears growing hot. She didn't expect anyone to actually ask to dance with her.

Theodore put up on a nervous smile as his heart felt like it would jump out of his chest.

"Sure." She smiled softly and slid her cold hands in his warm ones. Their eyes clashed together and neither of them bothered to look away.

When the dinner was being served, Ju-Hee went up to Mr. Lee and bowed.

"Oh are you Ju-Hee?" He was delighted to see her. There was a change of expression when he noticed her cheeks.

She nodded,"Yes, Mr.lee."

"It's so nice to see you!" He placed his hands on her shoulders and led her towards the stairs where a few men were standing. They looked like waiters.

"Here, meet my son, dong-wook."

She lifted her eyes to find a man in a black tuxedo. He seemed weird. When he smiled, she felt something was wrong with him. He acted very weirdly around her. He immediately pulled her in a hug and even kissed her cheek which she found was very uncomfortable.

"What are these?" Dong-Wook asked, his nose scrunched up as he pointed at the flowers on her cheeks. Ju-Hee didn't know what to reply so she kept quiet.

What was her father exactly doing?
