Chapter 10: The Hunt for Barry...

Note: I don't own this picture for the chapter, I merely found it, REALLY liked it and thought it was amazing/fitted the chapter, and honestly if this does belong to anyone who reads this chapter then this is amazing and you are really good so keep up the amazing work!

It was a bad time all around emotions wise in S.T.A.R. Labs, both with Team Flash and those close to them...

The whole room was completely in silence, with only a few of the machines and pieces of tech being the only noise-like thing in the area that they were in, and more than a few hearts and feelings having been crushed and shattered multiple times over within the last few hours.

Why? Well...because of what had happened no more than 4 hours prior - something that had occurred minutes after Barry had seemingly stabilized, then had gone into a state of shock...and then the events that had occurred after he had stabilized again once again.....

A Few Hours Later - Just after Barry had stabilised minutes after going into shock:

*Note: There is some repetition from the end of the last chapter.

Caitlin turned her head, and saw that the bleeding began to stop, as did Barry's violent spasms and shaking...but what was terrifying was that this only occurred when a patch of ice appeared briefly over the area where Barry was stabbed by Reverse Flash with the spike, leaving only a scar where the wound once was!

"H-How...?" she began to say...before looking up, and seeing that, to hers and Cisco's shock...that Joe had Barry's power dampening necklace in his hand - Joe having snapped it off from around Barry's neck.

"What did you do...?" was all Cisco could say in response to that...but they didn't get a chance to listen to Joe's answer.

The temperature around the room began to get colder, and soon an icy fog-like mist began to appear from Barry's hands to the floor...and then, his eyes eyes opened - revealing the icy blue eyes that belonged not to Barry, but to his icy cold alter ego, Killer Frost! - and immediately afterwards, his entire body was covered in an icy mist that sent all three of them flying in multiple directions - crashing into glass or equipment instantly!

And then, the icy pale and scarred faced body of Savitar, aka Killer Frost, began to appear from within the icy fog, smirking his dark smile as he blasted icy energy around the room, simply saying one thing as he did so: "I'm...BACK!!!"

Cisco and Joe began to slowly make their way up to their feet - grimacing a bit as they did get up from their rather uncomfortable landing from Killer Frosts attack not that many moments ago. Caitlin though took longer to awaken, as she herself had been knocked into an unconscious state temporarily from Frosts re-awakening!

Frost smirked sadistically as he stretched his arms out in a random direction, and unleashed powerful blasts of cold, icy energy from the palm of his hands into random directions where that his arms stretched out to - not because he was choosing to, but because he simply needed to see if his potential had not weakened in the time he had been locked away since the encounter with Reverse Flash around about Christmas time.

Either way, he laughed at what he was doing like a madman!

Cisco and Joe barely managed to avoid this random exertion of power, but this in tow caught the attention of Iris and Wally West, and Detective Eddie Thawne - the latter of which ran into the room where Savitar was on instinct alone to try to stop him whilst the West siblings attempted to help Cisco and Joe, despite the fact that none of the three who had just arrived were aware of what the icy meta-human could do.

This cost Eddie, as mere moments after entering the room where Savitar and the unconscious Caitlin remained - gun drawn and all - Killer Frost blasted the detective square in the chest, sending him flying back into a nearby wall and knocking him out as well!

Whether or not he had intended to knock Eddie unconscious or not, or simply kill him, was neither here-nor-there for the others - but they soon saw Frost as he slowly made his way out of the room and glanced at them like a predator eyeing his prey!

To say that Iris and Wally were shocked to see this side of their beloved adopted brother Barry would be a severe understatement! But they did not waste time thinking on it now, as they, Joe and Cisco quickly shot up and ran out of the room as fast as they could - barely dodging another cold blast of energy that Killer Frost shot out towards them!

Savitar chuckled darkly as he caught them running off, not having payed the slightest bit of attention to the unconscious Caitlin as he began to slowly pursue his fleeing victims!

"You can run, but you can't hide!" his voice echoed throughout the entire building with a terrifyingly sickening and deadly edge - not seeing Caitlin beginning to get to her feet as she regained consciousness.

Joe, Cisco, Iris and Wally barely even looked back as they raced as fast as their legs, and their respective choice of footwear, would allow them through the halls of S.T.A.R. Labs - running into The Pipeline just to try and escape from Killer Frost!

Sadly, their attempt would be a futile one, as Frost himself was in pursuit and catching up surprisingly quickly, despite taking his sweet, twisted time in following - brushing the deathly icy pale fingers from one of his hands against a nearby wall, leaving an icy trail against the walls in the process, and the temperature of the entire room dropping as he approached!

"Come out, little insects...! Come out, come out!" they heard him say as he edged ever more closer. Soon though, the four fleeing friends and family of Barry Allen - in both a literal and metaphorical sense of the words when regarding Killer Frost's alter ego - soon reached an empty prison cell within The Pipeline itself...more specifically, the cell that Frost himself had once inhabited not that many months ago!

"Come out and plaaaay!" they heard as they saw the cell, feeling the temperature of the drop even more when they did. Without uttering a single word: Cisco ran over to the nearest console and opened the cell door - Joe, Iris and Wally all running over quickly without complaint, and running into the cell to hide as the door opened.

When they did so, Cisco immediately made the door shut on them and seal them in as he dived under the closing door moments before it could shut!

What they didn't know notice though was that this action had not made things easier for them or made them safer. In fact...it had done quite the opposite! It had made them more easier now for the icy meta-human to trap!

Unaware of this at first, the four tried to keep as quiet as they possibly could - their frantic breathing caused by their fast and frantically beating hearts being the only thing that could be heard by the four of them, which was the only thing that really kept them from being heard given that sound could not be heard on either side of the giant second door.

However, someone soon figured it out rather quickly.

"Wait a minute...the doors console operates only for those whose finger print ID is registered as an official employee for S.T.A.R. Labs, or at least the ones that have access to The Pipeline!" Cisco spoke in sudden fright, fear etched in his voice.

"S-So...?" Iris asked in confusion, but she was not able to get an answer from Cisco - or from either member of her family as well - due to the door suddenly beginning to open up behind them once again, revealing Savitar himself standing in front of them with a hand raised slightly pointing towards them with his fingers shaking a little in a mocking manner.

"You did forget that me and your poor, little Barry share the same DNA right, as well as our own? Or did Iris and Wally not get told." he mockingly said with a sadistically amused smirk on his face, stretching his hands up in front of him as he was ready to attack.

"H-How did you know we were in here...!?" Iris asked in shock, a feeling that Wally shared and a feeling that, in their case, was justified given they weren't in the know about Killer Frost. Frost himself just chuckled mockingly.

"You're kidding, right? I'm a literal cold-blooded meta-human, who often has to seek out and feed on heat itself on occasion! I can easily sense your body heat or use my powers to figure out your movements with no effort at all! I figured out where you were before you even entered this pitiful cell!"

His words were as deadly as daggers as he spoke - each word stabbing into the 4 in front of him and causing them to realise just how powerful he truly was, if only on a small level.

"Night, night little insects!" he soon said, and prepared to blast them with his icy powers...only for him to stop and hesitate a little - albeit only briefly, and without it being shown - when Caitlin appeared in the middle of all 5 of them, in her suit and all, a hand outstretched towards Frost himself. "Barry, stop!"

Savitar's face briefly grew hard with a scowl at seeing the speedster lover of his more beloved alter ego - more beloved by Caitlin and the rest of his enemies at the time at least - and he soon spoke in a tone that was both mocking, yet filled with hate and contempt at the same time.

"Always here to 'save the day', aren't you Flash!" he said simply, as he attempted to blast Caitlin as well - however the 'Scarlet Speedster' herself managed to act quickly after sensing what was going to happen, had she not acted, and collided her shoulder and elbow into the gut of Killer Frost at lightning-quick speed - causing the icy meta-human to be sent back into the wall outside of the cells small corridor and crumple onto the floor.

"Barry! I know you can fight this Barry!" Caitlin began as she slowly approached with caution - which, given what had happened not too long ago, was understandable if not a little flawed given which side of the metaphorical coin she was speaking to - but Savitar just laughed a bit, much to the surprise of them all.

"I know Barry could! But, Flash, I don't want to!" Frost then said eerily, and then quickly used his cold powers to create a wall of ice in the archway that led towards the cell, sealing them off from the exit in the process, before running off before Caitlin could or Cisco could react!

Caitlin used her fazing ability and her speed to get out of the icy barricade, and immediately ran throughout the entirety of S.T.A.R. Labs to try and find Savitar - checking every possible exit there was, secret or not, whilst doing so - to no avail, as she exited the building and saw an unexpected snow storm outside of the building and no sign at all of Killer Frost!

"BARRY!!!"

Present Time:

That was what happened not that many hours ago...but the emotions were so raw and fresh that it was clear to see how much it affected them all...

"I should have seen this happen...I SHOULD have! If I had, if my powers actually decided to show me what was going to happen: then maybe Barry wouldn't be...trapped within that thing!" Cisco said, his emotions and hatred for Killer Frost - warranted or not - and for himself for not being able to sense the events that had occurred, or even Barry being stabbed by Reverse Flash, being ever more clear in his voice - slamming his fist into the desk he was sat near in anger!

Joe was holding the power-dampening necklace that Barry had once worn before he had taken it off of him, and he sighed - feeling like he had failed the boy who was a second son to him - both metaphorically and quite literally, given that he adopted Barry - and that he himself was the cause for Barry turning back into Killer Frost, and he alone.

He didn't blame Frost, even if he did want him gone as much as Cisco right now, and even though Reverse Flash was the one to blame...Joe didn't, because he felt like he'd let Barry down...

Iris was the first one out of herself, Wally, and Eddie - the ones who had been left out of the loop in regards to everything, for the good and bad - to speak, soon slowly saying "You all knew about what was going on with Barry...you all had these powers...and you didn't tell us...?"

Her voice wasn't condescending, or filled with hate - no matter how rightfully justified it would be for her to speak in hate - but more in sadness, in a way that basically said that she was trying to figure out on why all the secrets.

Cisco slowly nodded as he looked to them - glancing over for a moment to see if Caitlin was in any state to talk...but she was too far out of it right now to even register the conversation, never mind the question posed to the three of them. Fortunately for Caitlin, Cisco and Joe: they weren't the ones who explained everything.

"To clarify, Miss West: S.T.A.R. Labs did not originally know about Mr. Allen - Barry - being alive until some time before he was brought back into your lives. By all accounts - Barry was pretty much not amongst the world of the living...as bleak as that may sound."

The voice belonged to Dr. Wells, who had not long arrived back to S.T.A.R. Labs from his business. And it seemed like he had already picked up on what was going on pretty quickly.

"And as for your friends and Detective West keeping their silence on their little...heroic enterprise, if you will...they chose to keep it a secret for the benefit and protection of you three." He spoke eloquently in their defences...if only they knew what secrets he was hiding at this point in the game, then they would have been more suspicious of him.

"So...how do we get Barry back, and get rid of that frozen maniac in control of him!?" Iris snapped, her temper still nowhere near in check yet, despite Wells's attempt at calming her down in his own way. Granted, it wasn't as if her anger wasn't justified or anything, but if tone of voices could kill: she'd have put everyone in a coma with how angry she sounded.

"That is not an easy or simple thing to answer." Wells began, leaning his face into one of his hands and tapping his chin with his forefinger whilst trying to figure something out.

"As we've no doubt already experienced and seen these last few months: We can't do one thing without hurting or affecting the other. So trying to outright kill Killer Frost is not an opinion. Well, unless you want to lose Mr. Allen, which I highly suspect none of you do.

"So...we need to find a way to separate one from the other, or create something to either rid one of the other...or permanently suppress one from the other completely. Both of which are tough challenges. Possible, but far from simple."

Caitlin herself was shocked that the thought alone was even mildly entertained by Dr. Wells, especially given both the morale and ethical implications of such a suggestion.

Sure, Killer Frost was far from a good guy: But that didn't mean that they should resort to essentially killing him - which, in Cait's mind, they were more-or-less suggesting that they do - especially when whatever idea they might come up with could be harm or get rid of Barry instead of Killer Frost!

Caitlin glanced over to Cisco and Joe - almost pleading with them to try and dissuade the others from this - however Cisco was wrapped up in his own world of personal blame for what happened to Barry to notice in this case, and although Joe himself seemed to be on Cait's side, they were outnumbered by Iris, Wally, Eddie and Dr. Wells himself.

As much as she wanted to keep arguing, Caitlin felt herself glancing down at Barry's power-dampening necklace that Joe had given to her after...well...after *that* incident not too long ago...And when she did, she walked out of the room and walked to the Pipeline...and when she got there, her walls completely broke down, and she let the tears fall as she held the necklace to her chest and leaned against the wall of one of the cells.

"Caitlin...?" she looked up and saw that Cisco slowly and cautiously approaching. He sat next to his best friend, immediately seeing the necklace she held onto and guessing what mental hell she must be going through without needing to ask, and he gently pulled his sister-figure into a hug, letting Caitlin cry and let it out. Lord knows, they both needed this right now...

"We'll get him back Caitlin...I promise..." Cisco told his friend, which Caitlin nodded at slowly as they sat there for what felt like hours...though neither Cisco nor Caitlin knew if Cisco had made a promise that, on this occasion, even he couldn't keep....

As time went on, it became painfully obvious to everyone in S.T.A.R. Labs - including the now newest members of the team in Iris, Wally and Eddie, even though they had stated that they couldn't help full time - that Caitlin was sorely missing Barry almost to the exact same point she had after the first time they had fallen out years prior, and after Barry had originally died years ago - if not more.

It was also quite clear to see for Cisco and Joe, and to a lesser extent the others, that Caitlin was struggling to fully focus because of Barry's absence, and that she also held herself responsible for what had happened leading up to Barry becoming Killer Frost in full once again - even though it wasn't her fault in any way shape or form.

Caitlin was still able to work fine, sure, but it was like all the lights were off at home within her, and that she was pretty much at her lowest point right now. Even Cisco's occasional attempts at lightening up the mood was met with either little response from the speedster herself, or even worse: no response at all, almost to the point like she hadn't even heard him or noticed that she had company.

That was how seriously bad her mental and emotional state was at this point.

What's more: Caitlin's feelings on the whole idea that Wells had suggested of separating the two or suppressing one permanently was met with little to no response, or saw Caitlin excusing herself from the room or conversation. And, although Caitlin didn't want to admit it yet, she was also starting to have her suspicions of Dr. Wells as well, and that did not settle well with the 'Scarlet Speedster'.

However, one afternoon at S.T.A.R. Labs a few days after...that day...Caitlin was going over the files that had helped them find Killer Frost some months ago, and something began to click in her mind that surprisingly hadn't clicked with any of the others months prior, weirdly.

What she noticed through the files was that every person that Killer Frost had killed or put into a comatose-like state were either those who had accused - for one thing or another - on numerous counts of corruption, or for doing 'shady business practices'.

Some of the more higher up mystery cases though were ones who had managed to get out of these cases because they'd paid off some equally shady people in the courts, or the people testifying against these corrupt individuals had failed to make the trial(s) due to 'unforeseen accidents', or because they had 'surprisingly redacted their claims', as some of the files vaguely said.

If anything, Killer Frost had been doing the people of Central City a favor without anybody quite realising it at the time.

There was something else she noticed too: At least some of them were people who had once attempted business with Henry Allen and his medical practise, but Barry's dad immediately shut down their offers. Frost was as much Barry as Barry was as much Killer Frost, so the fact they knew or had attempted deals with their dad had to have had some importance to Frost.

Apart from that, she couldn't find any other pattern as to why Savitar would target the rest, beyond the fact they were corrupt and causing crimes under the radar.

Needless to say, though: Caitlin had at least something to go off on...or at least, she hoped she did...

Unfortunately, when she did go out on patrol - if anything to try and clear her head, and look for something...anything...that would help her find the one she loved - she got no such reprieve, clues, or attacks that either involved or was related to the icy meta-human...for a while, anyway....

Eventually, Caitlin suddenly came to a stop when she got, what seemed to be, a brief glimpse of Killer Frost within an alley way - her suspicions only increasing when she saw someone moving off into the shadows almost instantaneously upon her stopping.

Now, any rational person would probably have gone home as quick as they could after that, or maybe even called or headed to the police or the nearest police station. Even some heroes would be skeptical to purse. But Caitlin - in what many would probably describe as a lack of proper judgement at the time - did the opposite, and went after the figure that went back into the shadows of the alley way.

This, as predicted, would turn out to be a mistake.

The speedster managed to track down the person that she suspected was Barry through a disused sewer towards what looked like a large, very noticeable and conspicuous door that you'd probably would have seen in crime shows or something like Police Academy, and it was definitely something that didn't suit the scenery of a sewers.

[Note: I'm not sure if Nash Wells in Season 6 of The Flash discovered that hidden door prior to the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event was in a sewer or not, as it has been a while since I watched that season, but in the event he did find it in a sewer then please know that this is not that door. Sorry in advance if I got your hopes up]

The speedster slowly and cautiously approached the strange door, and brushed a hand across the door to see if she could find a hidden compartment to get into whatever was behind the door...unfortunately, instead of finding a hidden door switch built into the door itself, she uncovered a trap:

She felt a pressure pad on the door immediately get pushed in and activate upon brushing and pushing one of her hands against it whilst she was checking the door, and when this happened: She was hit by, what felt like, a small icy blizzard from vents hidden within the walls near the door - not enough to cause any permanent harm, but enough to knock out someone.

The trap and attack was so quick, even for Caitlin given she wasn't expecting it, that Cait was unable to get away quickly enough before the cold mini-blizzard more-or-less froze her in place and caused her to pass out!

Only afterwards, when it was determined that the unfortunate victim was unconscious and the trap reset itself - almost like it was on a timer - the door opened up and revealed the being who was staying within whatever base this was, who looked down at the unconscious speedster with icy cold and glaring eyes...

Eventually, Caitlin awoke from her unconscious state, noticing that she was in some sort of strange hideout in an area she did not recognise. Perhaps this was where the strange door led into to, but she had no way of knowing it at the time.

She did not know how long she had been unconscious for - a few minutes, an hour, maybe even a day for all she knew - but one of the first things she noticed upon waking up was that she wasn't tied up to a chair or anything in a dark corner, or even tied up at all. When she was about to ask where she was or what happened to whoever was occupying this place: She heard an all-too familiar voice say in within the darkness around her.

"You know, you spend all you're time looking for a decent or competent hideout...and then what does the goody-two-shoes speedster go and do? She only goes and finds it by luck alone..."

"Barry!?" she shouted, trying to see and find him as she called to the one she loved...but soon the icy alter ego appeared from within the darkness, and he was far from cheerful at seeing "The Scarlet Speedster" in his makeshift hideout.

Savitar glared over at Flash, and he soon approached her and stood face-to-scarred, icy face with the Speedster - his right hand now currently covered in a blade-like layer of ice before she could say another word, with the ice itself being as sharp as a sword, which coincidentally was the form that the icy form over his hand had taken.

"Let's get something perfectly clear Flash! The only reason why I haven't killed you yet, or done worse, is because of your little boyfriend, Barry! HE is the only reason you are alive right now! And the only reason why I haven't gotten rid of poor, little Barry is because I need him...for now...!"

As he spoke, the icy blade that had more-or-less temporarily replaced his hand edged slowly closer to Caitlin's face - only stopping when the point of the blade was inches from her cheek - but Caitlin barely even moved an inch as the blade edged towards her face.

There was something about Savitar/Frost that was bothering her right now. There was possible truth to his words, that she could not deny, but she didn't believe that his actions were completely restricted by Barry and his willpower alone. If he had wanted to attack her, he easily could have, and she knew it too.

So why was he only leaving with a warning, and not with a show of violence like he's done in the past, such as when she first encountered Frost?

Frost soon turned away and began to leave in the opposite direction, his icy blade attached onto his hand slowly beginning to melt away without leaving any evidence at all...only stopping when Caitlin - out of potential instinct alone perhaps - grabbed the frozen meta-human by one of his icy-cold arms.

He glanced over at her - a glare ever-present on his face at this sudden action - but Caitlin's features and stance never once faltered, not even for a second. She then slowly moved closer to Frost and whispered something in his ear - something only the two of them could here...not that there was anybody else here...

Clearly though, what she did say to him clearly surprised the Frozen meta-human, and caused him to look at the Speedster in a way that almost asked 'Are you serious?'

Caitlin slowly nodded, and placed something in his hand before slowly walking away from Savitar, thinking she could find her way out of the base without Savitar needing to help her...but she didn't get very far before he spoke.

"Why do you even bother, Flash? Seriously? You come all the way out of your comfort zone - tracking me for lord knows how long and finding me here...and then just leave when you've done what YOU believe is right. Why? Explain this to me Flash!"

Caitlin was wondering that herself for a little while...but it didn't take her long to figure out an answer to his question. It was almost like she knew the answer, and had done for a long time, even if she was only being asked the question now...

It was because she believed in Barry...and, she supposed, by extension...Killer Frost...Although he had shown evidence to the contrary more than once already: she truly believed that Savitar was not the ice, cold and remorseless killer that he portrayed himself to be, or gave off.

"Because...because I believe in you, Barry...in both of you...even if you don't believe in me...and I know you aren't as cold, or as heartless as you act."

Savitar scoffed at that, turning his head away as he said in disbelief. "You're right...I don't believe you, Flash." Even through his words though, Caitlin could tell that he didn't fully believe in what he was saying. She slowly glanced back at the icy meta-human as she spoke again - completely unaware that she had a tear in her eye.

"Perhaps I know you better than you know yourself. I read the reports on ever person you took down, Frost! I know you only ever went after those that were corrupt, or those who brought harm to others who were doing 'shady business practises' as well!"

Frost didn't say a word, merely listening to see where the speedster was going with this.

"But most importantly, Frost: I know that you hunted them down because they had previous encounters with yours and Barry's dad, Henry Allen! You might not be a hero, and I realise you may have only killed them to get revenge for what happened to your dad, but I can tell from your actions that you aren't completely evil. I know there's good in you...And if I see it, then you do too, or already knew full well of the actions you were taking..."

Savitar remained silent for a long time, neither confirming nor denying Caitlin's claim. It was then that, on instinct alone - and maybe even in a last ditch effort to get...something, anything -  Caitlin began reciting the opening lyrics of a certain song, slowly and with a wavering voice - the song itself being one that they both knew very well indeed:

"Summer Lovin', had me a blast...Summer Lovin' happened so fast..."

"I met a girl, crazy for me..." Frost finished - almost in the exact same way Caitlin did, and yet...the words did not feel so foreign or wrong to hear coming from Killer Frost as they would from Barry. Perhaps they were more alike than the icy meta-human had thought, though whether he'd admit it that is anyone's guess.

Slowly, he glanced back at Caitlin with the non-scarred side of his face, speaking soon after...but when he did speak again this time, his voice was barely above a whisper, and almost sounded tired than anything else.

"Go home, Caitlin..." he threw something at her, which Caitlin caught easily, revealing a small black box that seemed like it would contain jewelry. "Take that, keep it safe, and go...I will not ask again...Go before I change my mind..." And with that, he walked away back into the shadows - not looking back as he left - and leaving the speedster alone, with only the silence and the jewelry box in her hand being her company.

Caitlin slowly opened up the box to have a look inside of it, and if anything to see why Killer Frost had it...but when she saw what was inside of the box, her breath hitched and her heart nearly stopped for a brief moment. Why? Well...it was because of the jewelry in particular that was inside of the box...

The ring itself looked like it was a custom-made thing, or something that had been recently created. Cait had always heard Cisco mentioning that some places or people had done jewelry or other items in honor of The Flash, but her only real exposure to this was when she had seen the coffee in Jitters named after The Flash.

The ring also seemed to have a not underneath it within the box as well. She briefly took her attention away from the ring and looked at the note - unfolding it beforehand, of course - and then began to read it. To her surprise, it was not Barry who wrote the note - even if the handwriting was the same as his - but had came from Killer Frost himself, and read as such:

"Allen got this made for you, Flash. Hell, he got it completed a few days before I came back! I have no use for it, but I knew it would be of significance to you. Protect it well, and don't lose it. And word of advice: Don't trust 'Dr. Wells'...!"

Cait did not know what to make of the advice on Dr. Wells...but she was also taken aback by the realisation that Barry got her this ring. Though what for, she didn't have a clue...though she could guess.

Slowly, and rather reluctantly, Caitlin placed the note back into the box and closed it, before speeding off to find the exit to the base and head back to S.T.A.R. Labs - which, to her surprise, was not that much of a challenge. Almost like Killer Frost was using this hideout because it was easy for him to get out when needed, but impossible for anyone that he didn't want finding it to get in...well, unless you were lucky like Caitlin was, naturally...

Though what Cait did not see as she left was two ice cold eyes peering out from within the shadows as she left...eyes that vanished back into the darkness once he knew that she was out of sight.

"We'll met again, Caitlin Snow...but until then: Run, Flash, run...!"

When Caitlin got back to S.T.A.R. Labs: Cisco and Joe were checking on the speedster to make sure she was okay, with Cisco and Dr. Wells even running some checks on Caitlin and her suit as well just in case. When asked what had happened to her, and why her suits tracker had seemingly been turned off, Caitlin told a half-truth:

She did say that she thought she'd seen Savitar when on patrol and went to investigate against her better judgement, and as a result she got knocked out and taken to an unknown meta-humans base. What she failed to mention, however, was that said meta-human that knocked her out was Killer Frost himself. And she also neglected to mention that it was his base that she ended up in.

When asked how she managed to escape: she said that she didn't know. That she'd suddenly woken up in the base and whoever had captured her had either disappeared or probably had been killed, because all she could feel was an unnatural chill in the room.

Naturally they suspected that Killer Frost was responsible for why the kidnapper may no longer be around, though none of them dare voice it after a noticeable glare from Cisco that practically screamed 'Don't even think about saying it!', and that no doubt made them a little fearful for what he would do if they did. Not that Joe would anyway, he was being respectful regardless.

When the others left, however, both Cisco and Joe approached Caitlin as Cisco had his pad in his hands.

"You know, for a super hero, Caity: you're not a very good liar at times." Cisco began, though in a hushed voice so that only the three of them could hear, before he showed the results of the suit scan from his pad.

"The suits tracker wasn't disabled: it was frozen and made - more-or-less - useless to use, and not naturally either. I suspect it's been this way since the signal went offline. And I know when you're trying to hide something Caitlin." he continued, but putting the pad down and crossing his arms across his chest in a knowing way.

"You encountered him, didn't you? Killer Frost I mean." Joe asked this time, and Caitlin slowly, and very meekly, nodded her head. "Yeah...It was Killer Frost..." She showed the ring box afterwards - which she had concealed in her pockets after getting out of her suit - though neither Cisco nor Joe took it out of respect for their friend. Cisco gently patted Cait's shoulder as he nodded in understanding.

"Don't worry, I won't mention it to the others. Though they will figure it out sooner or later." he said in understanding, as if already having figured out what his speedster friend would ask of them, eventually, had they pressed the subject more.

"Thank you..." she said slowly, with a small smile, which both nodded at that with kind smiles. "Go home and get some rest. We've got things here for now, and we'll let you know if we need you or find something out." Joe said, almost in a manner that a father would tell their kid when being protective - something of which Caitlin herself greatly appreciated and nodded to in agreement.

"I will. And...and thank you both for understanding." Caitlin said, before carefully getting up and heading back home once she'd gotten her things. Though what Savitar had written in the note regarding Dr. Wells still left her feeling...uneasy, and she did not know why. But she suspecting she would do at some point. Almost like it was inevitable.

As the Speedster returned back to hers apartment, she slowly walked over to the bathroom sink and splashed water into her face - hoping to erase the stress of the day from her face and from her memories. When she did finish up, she noticed out of the corner of her eyes via the mirror that something was on the table nearby. Something that hadn't been there before when she had last been in the apartment.

She slowly walked over to see what it was, confused at first...but when she did reach over to the table, she noticed that it was a phone of some sorts. And not one of those modern day smart phones either (I'm not much of a phone user, if you can guess)...it was older, and required the use of buttons. Possibly something you'd see someone who isn't great with modern tech (like myself), or something that you'd often associate with a burner phone in crime shows or spy movies, like NCIS: Los Angeles for example.

This puzzled her a bit, until she noticed a note that was attached to the back of the phone as she picked it up. She recognised the handwriting almost immediately, and when she did she couldn't help but gasp. The handwriting...it was Barry's. Only she could tell that it wasn't Barry who wrote this note.

No...Killer Frost had wrote this note, that much she did understand. And it simply said "If you REALLY want to help us...then keep this handy with you. When the time comes...we'll contact you, and you alone."

That was something that Caitlin had not predicated or anticipated, but it was also something that got her thinking on why Killer Frost had wrote it. What was his motive? And...why did he seemingly only trust her, his seemingly worst enemy, with this...?

Whatever the reasoning was, things were certainly taking a turn in light of recent events...but was it a turn for good...or for the worst...?

With Killer Frost:

As Frost walked through the murky and eerie corridors of the sewers where he'd headed off to, he soon noticed a shadow appear in front of him that was concealing something within it...something, or someone...

"You are late, Frost...Though I am surprised that you are even alive at all with what father wanted to do to you." a voice could be heard booming from the shadows, which caused Frost to scoff a bit with a half-serious smirk on his face.

"He can't even get the job down when he tries to kill me! And what about you? Still...locked within here like the beast he treats you like? Instead of the almighty ruler that we both know you can be!" Killer Frost responded with a half-mocking, yet somehow very serious smirk on his face as he approached the shadows with no fear in his eyes at all.

Either way, it seemed to irk the one who was in the same area as Frost - two eyes within the shadows glaring out at the icy meta-human as it tried to control his rage, a rage that Frost could sense.

"What do you want, Frost! Before I lose my temper! Father is not the only one who lacks patience right now! Especially when plans are being interrupted!"

Savitar smirked a bit as he came closer, looking into the eyes of the being that stood before him within the shadows.

"I need something to make someone we both know...weaker! Maybe even dead, if I want. And I know you've found something with those military jackasses you've been having fun with lately...And don't try to lie to me that you haven't, I know you too well for that..."

The beings eyes narrowed a little, as if pondering or wondering what Savitar could need, and who it was that had - in his mind - pissed off the meta-human so much to need it. "What are you proposing?" Savitar just smirked darkly before speaking.

"Simple: you help me get what I need...and I'll even help you break that General you recently caught. Do we have a deal?" he offered a hand out a bit, smirking his devilish smirk as he did so...and soon, he got his answer...as a gorilla-like hand appeared from the shadows and shook Killer Frosts hand!

"Deal...Killer Frost!"

Author's Side-Note: Jeez it's been some time since I updated this. I'm really sorry it took me so long to update this, but for the longest time - despite knowing what I wanted with this chapter - I've had a severe case of writers block in how I wanted to take the direction of this chapter, and on occasions even had to rewrite or reword it at least once or twice.

Also, I've been balancing working on this The Flash book, my "The Flash - Frozen Speed" book, and some of my non-The Flash related books since I last updated this. Though I'm glad to say that I finally was able to complete this chapter and upload it...I just really hope the wait you and I went through with this was worth it...

I hope you all enjoy this chapter, are all staying safe and healthy, and I hope you all have an amazing day!
