7: Forgiveness
Husk ran and finally got to them, to see if they were okay when suddenly he saw something that shocked him.
"Alastor..." Husk whispered in shock which caused the two to look up as Alastor looked at him.
"What is it?" The red demon questioned him.
"You’re... you’re..." Husk struggled to say it but couldn't but Allison heard it which made her ears twitch.
Allison heard something dripping like water dripping from a faucet. She then looked down as she wiped her tears away and that’s when she saw something horrible. A small drop of blood. She slowly looked at Alastor and let out a gasp as she put her hand in her mouth. The gasp made Alastor turn to her to see what alarmed her that much and that's when he finally felt something burning in his chest. He soon felt his entire body shaking as he shakily put his hand on his chest area and felt something wet. When he pulled his hand away and looked at his palm, he saw that his palm, despite the dark coloration, was covered in blood. His blood. He starts to look at Allison who is rather shocked, worried and shaken with Husk looking shocked and shaken. Then his vision began to swim and before he knew it, Alastor fell to his knees, dropping his microphone staff before fainting on the ground. He got shot. He fucking god shot in the fight but he didn’t felt it happening due to the adrenaline rushing through his veins.
"Alastor! Oh no, no, no...!" Allison immediately ran to his side and immediately rolled him over.
"Fuck!" Husk swore loudly as he snapped out of his shock and ran to where the blue doe is.
He immediately assessed Alastor's condition and it was bad. Really bad!
"Hang in there." He whispered as Alastor's expression was pained and in pain.
"W-We have to get him somewhere safe fast." Allison shakily said as she was panicking and didn't know what to do.
"How will we do that? He can’t stand, let alone walk and by the time we get there, he would have already lost all of his blood." Husk argued back and Allison's ears pressed against her head.
"There’s gotta be something we can do. I can’t let him die!" She exclaimed worriedly, tears in her eyes again.
Alastor grabbed Allison’s hand which snapped her out of her panic and she looked at him while her eyes were filled with tears.
"There is something to be done. It may… fatally kill me. But I trust you to help me, chére... I can... transport us somewhere safe..." Alastor rasped out, his voice laced with static but it was weak.
"Are you crazy?! If you do that, you’ll die!" Husk looked at him as if he was crazy but Alastor has made up his mind.
"Like I said before... I trust... you..." Alastor said weakly.
Allison was doubting if she should allow Alastor to do something at the risk of him dying. He needs his strength to heal however his words cut down the doubts she had. He had faith in her and she knew it. With her mind set, she had agreed to let Alastor do whatever it was he was gonna do as she nodded.
"Do it." She whispered.
"Very well... Husk, grab onto me..." Alastor addressed the avian cat sinner.
Husk was reluctant at what Alastor was gonna do since he has done crazy shit especially today but he trusted him anyways and grabbed his arm.
"Hold on tight." Alastor gritted his teeth and used the last of his energy that he had in order to teleport the three of them to the only safe place for them and hidden from other sinners who would have taken this chance to take him out.
And that place was the Emporium in Cannibal Town.
Back there Rosie was just taking care of the items and other things but she was worried for Allison since it has been a while since she had left. Suddenly she saw three shadows appear appearing. When the shadows solidified, she saw that it was Allison, Husk and Alastor, who was being supported by Husk and Allison.
"What in the name of Lucifer is going on?!" Rosie immediately went to them but she gasped when she saw Alastor was severely hurt.
"Alastor, what happened?!" Rosie asked him but he was in so much pain that his vision was swimming and Allison had to explain.
"Long story. The loan sharks kidnapped me... Alastor and Husk saved me but... we have to save him." Allison told her worriedly.
"There’s no time to lose. He’s starting to fade." Husk gruffly said as he adjusted his hold on Alastor who winced.
"Dewdrop, Husk, grab Alastor and take him to the east room. I’ll go get the necessities to heal him." Rosie immediately told them as the two nodded.
"Right." Allison whispered as she and Husk helped Alastor up but it just aggravated his wound a bit too much which caused him to release a screech of static in pain and the sound made both Husk and Allison to wince in pain from their sensitive ears being assaulted by the noise.
"Just hang in there." Allison whispered as the static died down and Alastor breathed heavily.
"It’s okay... I’m no stranger to pain..." He said, laughing bitterly and weakly.
"Don’t jinx it, Alastor." Husk reprimanded him as he and Allison took Alastor to the room Rosie directed them to take Alastor in.
Husk has to kick the door open when they reached the room and it was another guest room where a bed is. They immediately went to the bed and slowly set Alastor down on the bed. Husk has to take the mic staff away from Alastor and rest it by the end of the bed just as Rosie comes in with everything they need especially the medical kit and something to clean the wound and a rag.
"Here’s everything." Rosie said as she came in and Allison turned to her, worry shining in her eyes.
"Thanks." She whispered as she turned back to Alastor.
Rosie puts all the items she had brought on the small table near the bed and Allison starts to check Alastor's injury but it's hard to see with his attire.
"How bad is it?" Husk asked Allison as his wings and tail twitched anxiously.
"I don’t know, I’ll have to see the wound to know." She said worriedly as sh turned to Alastor who opened his eyes weakly.
"Alastor, listen, this isn’t gonna be easy. It will be very painful, you have to stay still as much as possible." She told him as Alastor chuckled weakly.
"Don’t worry, chére. To me pain is a... pain is a dear old... friend." He said weakly as he started to lose consciousness from the blood loss which worried them.
"He lost too much blood, we have to patch his wound quickly." Allison said as she slowly removed Alastor's coat and set it down on a chair and took her own coat off and rolled up the sleeves before she turned to them.
"Rosie, Husk, please hold him down. I have to get the bullet out of him and it won’t be very pleasant." Allison told them as Husk seemed hesitant. Something about her willing to help Alastor even though after what happened unnerved him a bit but she has this aura that calms him.
"Can you do it?" He asked her as she turned to him, eyes determined, worried.
"I have to try. Now both of you hold him down as much as possible, he mustn’t move." She told them.
Both Rosie and Husk did as Allison told them to and they both held Alastor down. Rosie grabbed his wrists while Husk took care of grabbing his ankles so he wouldn't thrash around too much in the struggle. When they both held him down firmly, Allison took Alastor’s shirt off completely, revealing his chest which had fur like a stag's and saw the wound from the shot he took. Before beginning to remove the bullet, Allison grabbed the medical tweezers and took a deep breath as she sterilized it and got ready.
'Here we go...' She gulped nervously before she started to treat him but when the tweezers just touched the opening of his injury, it made Alastor to screech with his voice laced with static in pain and agony that he started to thrash against Rosie and Husk who were holding him down.
"Be careful! The plan is to heal him, not hurt him more than he already is!" Husk shouted at her.
"I’m doing the best I can!" She exclaimed back at him but her hands were shaking.
"You can do this, dewdrop. I believe in you." Rosie encouraged her softly. Husk has a bit of trust in her as well.
"Just go easy on him." He said gruffly as Allison calmed down as she nodded.
"I’ll do what I can. You guys just focus on holding on to him. The more he moves, the harder this will get." She said as she started to insert the tweezers deeper which just made Alastor experience intense pain than before.
"Hang tight, Alastor, just a little longer!" Husk said as Allison is trying to get the bullet out of Alastor as quickly as possible to at least ease him. She was able to find the bullet as she used the tweezers to grab it and pull it out of his chest and his static laced screeching stopped immediately and he was breathing heavily.
"There, I got the bullet out. Now we have to patch the wound up." She said as she set the bullet on a cloth.
Taking that as their cue, both Husk and Rosie let go of Alastor slowly, relieved that he was okay and out of danger.
"I need a fucking drink after that." Husk said softly as he took his hat off.
"It’s been rather rough but now all is well that ends well. We’ll leave you to it. Call us if you need anything." Rosie told Allison who nodded as she started to prepare the items needed.
Rosie and Husk started to leave the room, to leave Allison so she could patch up Alastor properly. After they closed the door, she grabbed some bandages and put it on the table. She grabbed the small bowl full of boiled water to make the items she needed such as the needle in order to sterilize it. She grabbed the surgery needle and dipped it in the water a bit to sterilize it. She noticed there weren't any surgery threads, so she used her own hair as he plucked a long one and it pulsed warmly and slid it through the hole of the needle. After doing so, she went to sew the wound close which made Alastor grit his teeth in pain.
"Oh sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you again. Forgive me for causing you any pain." She whispered softly as Alastor opened his eyes weakly to look at her.
"Don’t worry. I’m used to it." He whispered, voice lacking the static and radio effect.
"You should rest. You lost a ton of blood." Allison told him as she continued to sew the wound close.
"I’ll be okay, as a demon I heal differently. But that bullet sure made it hard to recuperate." He breathed softly as Allison's ear twitched.
"You’re really lucky. That bullet was an inch close to your heart. You could’ve died. Don’t take such a risk next time." She told him shakily as she kept her hands steady.
"I had to, I couldn’t let them hurt you, chére. Please forgive me for what happened..." Alastor said as she stopped for a moment. She was almost done anyway.
"It’s… It’s okay. Right now, we don’t need to talk about it. You need to rest in order to recuperate." Allison told him as she finished sewing it closed and all that was left was to use the bandages to cover it to avoid infection.
"Thank you... for saving my life." She spoke softly with a soft smile.
Hearing that made Alastor smile genuinely as he closed his eyes for a moment in serenity.
"You’re welcome, chére." He told her as Allison wrapped his wounds up and closed with the bandages.
"There, all done. Now get some rest. You need it." She said as she started to pack everything up.
"So do you, please... stay with me." Alastor spoke softly which caused her to stop and flushed lightly, feeling unsure of his request but...it was the least she could do for him.
"Okay, I’ll stay here if you need me." She told him as she sat down at the chair near the bed and Alastor closed his eyes to rest to heal up as Allison watched over him.
She felt like sleeping as well but the events of today were tormenting her a bit. Haunting her mind. She looked at the bullet and the heavenly power emanating from it, it reminded her of heaven and everything she had been through. She could not believe something like this could have ever been built. Specifically in Hell.
'How could something like this happen? There’s so much I don’t know... to think Sera allowed something like this to be created...' She thought, thinking of her older sister. What other secrets has Sera been hiding from everyone...?
Allison sighs as she puts the bullet back on the table on the cloth. After doing so, she closed her eyes and went to sleep to rest from the hectic day that she had.
The next day she was up and Alastor was still sleeping soundly, still healing from the wound. She let him be so he can heal up faster as she went to resume her work in the emporium, do dresses, get materials and do other stuff. She checked on Alastor once or twice during the day. So far he would still be sleeping. To distract herself from her concerns, Allison would keep working, although she seemed to be okay, Husk and Rosie could notice that she was concerned for Alastor.
"It may be just me, but I feel like the girl is concerned. And that it’s not just about Alastor." Husk voiced his thoughts as Rosie hummed. She can see it too.
"I wish I could say you’re wrong but I can see it in her eyes, she hides it so well." Rosie spoke softly as she gave the dress one of the cannibals bought in a neatly packed bag with a friendly smile.
"You should perhaps have a talk with her. It seems like you both have quite a good relationship." Husk said as he took a swig of the alcohol in the glass Rosie gave him.
"You’re right, I’ll talk to her." The cannibal leader said with a smile. She stood up and walked to where Allison is so she have a small chat with her dewdrop.
"Dewdrop, can you take a break so we can talk?" Rosie asked her softly as Allison looked at her in confusion.
"Sure, what for?" She asked her curiously.
"Oh nothing, I just felt like we could have a little chat, drink some tea and sit a spell." Rosie giggled as she tilted her head at her. Allison felt her ears twitching.
"Of course." She nodded.
Allison followed Rosie to a private area where they can sit down and talk. They both sat down across from each other and Rosie served herself some blood tea.
"Now tell me, Dewdrop, are you feeling okay?" Rosie started, asking her motherly and Allison sighed softly, her ears drooping slightly.
"More or less. I’m just worried about Alastor’s condition. He’s doing well so far but... seeing him unconscious... doesn’t help much." She said worriedly as she rubbed her arms, ears pressed against her head.
Rosie could understand the worry. She too is worried about Alastor but she knows that the radio demon is tough and will be back on his two feet in no time after some rest.
"Oh don’t you worry, He’ll get through. You’ll see." Rosie reassured her.
"I know he will... but him not making it isn’t what worries me the most." Allison admitted and Rosie looked at her curiously.
"Oh? Then what worries you?" She asked.
"Finding out more about what he didn’t tell me. Ever since what happened yesterday, I can’t get it out of my head the fact that long ago Alastor was a murderer, and that he is an Overlord." She explained.
"What else don’t I know? Why didn’t he tell me anything? And... Do I wanna know the answers?" Allison questioned Rosie and Rosie looked at sympathetically.
"I understand your concerns, dewdrop." She said, Allison sighed softly but...
"Why did Alastor keep all this a secret from me?" Allison asked her and Rosie knew why.
"I believe he was afraid to scare you or that you’d run away from him. Just like you’re scared of getting answers, he was scared of telling you things about him. But I know that he wanted to tell you, he just couldn’t find the right words or the right time for it. These things are difficult to talk about." Rosie told her as Allison pursed her lips. Yeah, she would have reacted that way.
"Yeah. I figured as much. I know there’s a lot I don't know and trying to run away from the answers won’t help." She agreed and Rosie nodded and knew what she needed. A break.
"Perhaps it would be best for you to take a break from work, give yourself some time to recuperate from yesterday’s event." Rosie told her, setting her cup down
"I know I should, but I feel that resting will only make things worse. Working is the only way for me to distract myself from... what happened and to stop worrying about Alastor." Allison said as she looked down at her lap.
"I understand perfectly, but take it slow. Don’t over exert yourself too much." Rosie advised her and Allison nodded.
"I will, but first, there’s something I need to know. You may or may not know the answer, but I have to find out." Allison told her and Rosie looked curious. Allison took something out of her pockets and showed it to her. It was the bullet she took out from the injury from Alastor yesterday and Rosie immediately realized why her friend was injured.
"The bullet that hit Alastor?" Rosie asked her in shock and she nodded.
"When I managed to get it out, I felt something. It had a... powerful aura. Something out of this world. I cleaned it up, so you could see it better, and now you could perhaps tell me what makes this bullet so powerful." Allison said, lying a bit about knowing what the aura was since it's similar to heaven.
Allison puts the bullet on the table as Rosie grabs it. As she had it in her possession, she noticed the immense aura of heaven energy. She then put the bullet back in the table as she hummed. She knows one of the overlords is a weapon dealer to this.
"I never thought I’d ever sense something this powerful. And since you’ve sensed it too, there’s no point in hiding it. This bullet is far more common than any regular bullet. It’s a holy bullet." Rosy told her which caused Allison to freeze. Holy...? As in, holy bullets from heaven?!
"Holy bullet?" She asked her slowly and Rosie nodded.
"Yes, and the reason why it spreads such an aura, is because the metal is heavenly steel or something. A metal that comes from heaven. With it, they forge the weapons of the exterminators... used to kill us when the time comes." Rosie cryptically explained which shocked Allison.
"I... never heard of it." She muttered in shock and disbelief.
"It’s not something that’s easy to talk about. And I wish I didn’t have to tell you about it, but after what happened last night it would be foolish and very irresponsible to hide the truth. I don’t know much about these weapons." Rosie said truthfully as Allison listened in silence, taking it all in and processing the information she just received.
'So it can kill sinners...' Allison thought in shock.
"That is why the leader of the loan shark used it on Alastor." She said in shock and realization.
"He knew it could kill him. So he kept it as a last resort. If it weren’t for you, Alastor could’ve died. At least now he’s safe." Rosie said, looking at the room Alastor is resting in.
"With something like this in the hands of the exterminators, I fear no one is safe." Allison deduced before she spoke in a low voice.
"I can’t believe that heaven would approve of using such weapons." She spoke in a low tone, disappointment and disapproval in her voice.
"You said something, dewdrop?" Rosie questioned her curiously. Did Allison say something?
"Oh nothing." Allison immediately snapped out of it as she shook her head with a strained smile.
"I just... find it hard to believe that something like this is being made. It sickens me. I don’t even wanna imagine how many have been killed by such weapons." Allison confessed and Rosie nodded.
"It is mortifying to think of such dreadful stuff." She said as Allison sighed softly.
"Yeah. Thanks for telling me. It helped me out a bit." Allison said softly as she looked at her with a thankful smile.
"My pleasure, you know you can always talk with me." Rosie told her and Allison nodded.
"Of course. I’ll get back to work right away." She said as she stood up from her seat and about to get back to work when Rosie stopped her.
"Dewdrop, you must know that what happened to Alastor is no fault of yours. He would’ve risked his life whether you were in danger or not. There is no reason for you to feel guilty. Alastor has... always been one to put his life on the line." Rosie told her as Allison turned to her in confusion.
"Why?" She asked him as Rosie smiled sadly.
"Let’s just say, before meeting you, and before his death... He had a life. Like everyone else. He’ll get better, but the process will be slow." Rosie explained as she looked at the cannibal leader before she nodded slowly and left to resume her work.
Rosie’s words echoed in her mind as it helped her feel better and more confident that Alastor would get better even if the process was gonna take a while. However finding out more about what hurt Alastor was rather devastating
"Seraphim... how low have you fallen..." Allison muttered softly to herself as she closed her eyes, clenching her fists hard.
The frustration she feels could not be expressed in just mere words. She wanted to make the real culprits pay for it but she knew that vengeance wouldn’t make things better. As she opened her eyes, she unclenched her fists and kept on walking to resume her work. As the days passed, Allison checked on Alastor periodically. He was still weak from getting out of the bed, but he had regained enough strength to lean up and eat some food. Specifically raw food that Rosie gives Allison for Alastor to eat. Allison couldn’t always check on him or make sure he had eaten something since there was a lot of work to do so Rosie helped out. With each passing day, Alastor got better, slowly but better.
One night, Allison managed to find some off time from work and she decided to spend her free time in Alastor’s room. He was doing well but still a bit weak and resting but his wound was totally healed. The next morning, while Allison was sleeping soundly as she was resting her head on her arms on the bed as Alastor woke up and walked to the closet where his clothes were that Rosie and Allison fixed up for him. When he got them out, he noticed they had been cleaned, the blood stains were totally gone. He deduced that Allison took care of the cleaning of his clothes. He starts to take off the bandages covering his wound but he had a bit of difficulty with them.
"Do you need some help?" A soft voice asked him which caused him to tense and turned around to see that Allison was awake.
"I’d appreciate that. I didn’t mean to wake you up. You looked like you needed some rest. I apologize." Alastor thanked her, his voice regaining the radio effects.
"Well, you know what they say, no rest for the wary." She said with a sheepish smile.
"Hold still." She said as she walked to Alastor so she could help him take the bandages off.
As she unravels them off little by little, she manages to free the area where Alastor got hurt and it looked as if there was no wound at all. Allison touches the area gently as images when Alastor was hurt because of her lingering in her mind. But when Alastor looked at her, she immediately stopped touching the area as she averted her eyes.
"Uh, looks good as new." She stammered slightly in embarrassment.
"All thanks to you, chére." Alastor thanked her but Allison shook her head.
"No, you got hurt because you saved me." She told him but Alastor simply went to the closet to grab his inner shirt first.
"I got hurt because I did what was right." Alastor told her as he put his shirt on first.
They have a moment of silence before Allison breaks it with a question that has been bothering her.
"Why didn’t you tell me you were an overlord?" She questioned him as he buttoned up his shirt before he began to put his coat on.
"Well, it’s not something you scream on all the roofs. And to be honest, I was afraid that if I told you, that you’d be intimidated. I’m known and feared throughout Hell as Alastor the Radio Demon and a powerful overlord." Alastor told her as he straightened his coat and put his bow tie on, straightening his suit and smoothing out the wrinkles.
"I just wanted for once that someone saw me as just Alastor, without fear, without the big titles, just me and nothing else." Alastor explained before turning to her with an almost saddened gaze.
"When I first met you, I thought that it could be the change I needed. You’re the first person who saw me as something else. But now I have realized the severity of my mistakes. I’m sorry you had to suffer because of me." Alastor told her as she looked at him before she clasped her hands against her chest.
"Can I... be honest too?" She asked him. Alastor tilted his head but nodded, feeling curious.
She took a deep breath before she started to speak again.
"If you had told me earlier you were an Overlord, I would’ve been scared, yes. But that's normal since everything here is new and scary. This is Hell and. I barely know anything about what goes around. It scares me yes... but I know that if I run away from what scares me, I’ll never understand what Hell is." Allison said, sharing her fears before she looked at him.
"It’s been hard for me to adapt to this new environment, but if I plan to one day call this place my home, I have to face my fears head on." She said and Alastor couldn't help but feel moved with her words.
"That is well spoken, chére. Well, I better leave you to it. And don’t worry about these lousy sharks, they won’t bother you now anymore." Alastor said, his usual smile returning only more genuine towards her as he summoned his staff.
"I know, thanks for saving me." Allison said as she returned the smile.
"It was nothing. But I apologize you got involved in this mess and that you had to see what I truly am." Alastor apologized sincerely.
"It’s okay, I was scared but like I said, I can't run from what scares me. Not that you scare me or anything. I’m just saying that..." Allison stammered slightly in the end but Alastor just chuckled.
"It’s alright, I understand. I’ll... try to come visit you more often. If we’re still friends that is." He reassured her before looking at her hopefully.
"Of course, we’re still friends. And I’d love for you to come visit me. I mean not just me, Rosie too since you’re friends too, ha ha." Allison said, laughing nervously and sheepishly.
Alastor smiled before taking her hand in his and kisses the back of it like a true gentleman would.
"Very well, until we meet again, chére." He told her before letting her hand go and merging with the shadows and left the emporium and leaving Allison alone in the room.
She felt her heart hammered against her chest and she smiled softly. She can't wait to see him again.
