Chapter 1
YEAH!! Book 2!! Whooo!! It ain't over yet. XD Took me too long to figure out how this chapter was going to go... but it's here now! Enjoy!
A/N; Also, for any who may be wondering or is confused... I probably should have said this way before... hehe. Scar, is just paralyzed from the waist down. I wanted to go as close as I could to things irl, but I was (and still am) unsure that I know enough about everything he deals with health wise and such, that I'm making things simpler and just having him paralyzed. I know he isn't paralyzed in real life (I think) but it's what I wanted to go with, so yeah.
Sorry the A/N is long. Have fun reading!
Impulse thumped against the bars roughly, grunting slightly. Backing up, he rammed into the bars again. He backed up again, then ran forward ramming into it.
"Impulse..." Scar sighed. Bang. "Impulse..." Scar repeated in a mumble. Bang. "Impulse!" he shouted, opening his eyes. "Ramming into the bars isn't going to get us out!" he said.
"I know, I know..." Impulse grumbled, pausing as he glanced toward Scar. "Neither will anything else." He said.
"Well at least we got somewhere with all those things. Doing that is just going to hurt your shoulder!" Scar said.
"Oh- so what about your shoulder?? That looked like it hurt when you tried to stick it between the bars and reach for the lock!" Impulse replied. Scar opened his mouth, then closed it for a moment.
"...Either way, crashing into the bars won't do anything." he said.
"So what do we do then? Nothing else is working. Each time we've gotten close to escaping- they show up... I really don't like feeling watched all the time." Impulse said. "It's creepy."
"Eh, well I've already gotten used to it." Cleo said from the wall.
"Of course you have- they have to watch you like a hawk. Which I don't understand how they can handle that..." Impulse said, shivering. "Seeing your hand crawl between the bars was... even creepier...." he said.
"Perks of being a zombie. Don't you love it?" Cleo asked, grinning slightly.
"...Anyway..." Scar said, shivering slightly. "I'm not sure what to do. It's been two weeks, and not once have we left this cell... I'm worried we might be stuck here forever. It doesn't help that the one guy who could really help us is... unavailable..." he said, glancing to Mumbo.
The man in the suit sat in the corner, curled up as he stared at his knees... He hadn't moved from that spot all week. He just looked so... empty. And Scar knew he was. Grian and Mumbo were practically brothers, that was, until they discovered that Grian was the bad guy... It destroyed everything. Everyone who knew the sweater boy had a hole somewhere within them now- And Mumbo's was the biggest... And it didn't seem like it could ever be mended.
"Guys- quiet down, someone's coming." Etho whispered from the cell beside them. Instantly they all went still and quiet.
Scar looked up to the hall, toward the corner. A shadow was walking with a quick pace, coming closer. He noticed the odd shape of the head and wondered why it looked the way it did... then the shadow's owner walked into view, Scar gasping as Etho's eyes widened. "Xisuma!" The two said in unison. Impulse and Cleo quickly glanced over, their eyes widening as well.
"How did you get here without getting caught- why are you here? How did you know we were here?!" Impulse asked as the man in the helmet walked over.
Xisuma chuckled slightly. "I figured some of you would be here. Etho sent me an SOS back when he discovered who Zeqain was, right before he got caught. I was having a little bit of my own situation though, so I'm sorry I couldn't come earlier. But it's over now, and I'm here! So let's get you guys out..." he said, glancing around slightly as he started picking at the lock.
"But, it's been over two weeks since Etho got caught. Has that situation of yours really lasted that long?" Impulse asked. If it lasted that long, it must have been much bigger than a little situation... And the crack in the helmet only told him it was a lot more dangerous than Xisuma was making it sound.
"Unfortunately, yes." Xisuma said. "It was a bit... chaotic, I suppose. There was a lot of running involved, I'll tell you that." he said, opening the door. He moved over to Etho's cell and started working on that one too. "Now let's get out of here before they come." he said, returning to the others, Etho by his side. "Alright, Etho, help me with Scar. Impulse... oh, it's bad, isn't it?" he asked, looking to Mumbo. "The poor guy... Impulse, your on Mumbo duty."
Scar held out his arms, Xisuma and Etho both grabbing one, lifting him up. Wrapping their arms around him, they held on to keep him up. "Jeez, this would be so much easier if I had my wheelchair. I could roll into all of the watchers- ram though all the doors! Wouldn't that be a sight to see?" he chuckled.
Xisuma laughed slightly. "Yes, it would be a wonderous sight. Alright- Impulse, you got Mumbo?" he asked, glancing back slightly.
"Yeah- I do." Impulse said, pulling Mumbo to his feet. The silent man complied, walking slowly behind Impulse, but he did not look up, keeping his gaze to the ground.
Impulse let out a sigh. This wasn't going to be easy, was it?
Quietly they progressed through the halls, Impulse grabbing Mumbo's hand so he wouldn't fall behind. They followed Xisuma, through each turn and corner they came to. At first Xisuma had started down the hall all the watchers came from, but to be able to avoid them better he began going down different paths, guiding the others on. He paused for a moment, and adjusted himself and Scar real quick so he could better hold him up.
"We're moving pretty slow. Won't they catch up?" Cleo asked quietly, looking around slightly.
"It is very possible that they will find us, yes. But they don't often come through these halls. It is likely they will skip them until much later on." Xisuma said, beginning to walk again. He gestured to the right, once they came to another hall, and in that direction they went.
"You know these halls well... You've been here before?" Impulse asked.
Xisuma glanced behind him slightly. "I've been to many places. What can I say? I love to travel." he said, chuckling softly. Impulse smiled a bit.
"So-"
"Over there!" someone shouted.
"This way!" another one said, voices echoing from the halls behind them. Xisuma hesitated.
"Crap, they're already catching up to us. Move faster, turn at the next left." Xisuma said, picking up the pace with Etho. Still they held onto Scar, but they both knew it wouldn't last for very much longer.
Impulse quickened his footsteps, looking back at Mumbo. "Come on buddy, we gotta go. Move a little faster-" he whispered, suddenly noticing shadows from their last turn appear and quickly grow. "Xisuma- they're coming!" he spoke in a hushed voice, looking back ahead.
"I know, I know, turn right now- everybody hide behind the statues!" Xisuma said, gesturing for Etho to go, assuring his masked friend that he could handle Scar. Quickly helping him behind a large statue, he watched as the others hid, shadows again approaching.
"Where'd they go- this way! I saw something!" a watcher said, running passed the very hall they were in. The other watchers followed, none ever coming near the hiding friends.
They stayed still though, Impulse holding back his breath... It was still possible that one watcher would decide to come this way instead, and find them all hiding. But after some long few seconds, he slowly let it out, coming out of hiding as the others followed suit.
"Where to now?" Cleo asked, looking around wearily.
"Down the same hall they went." Xisuma said, watching Etho come back over to help with Scar.
"I've got a question," Scar finally spoke up. "Watchers are known for their watching. Wouldn't they have known where we were at the beginning? When Xisuma started leading us down these halls?" he asked. "How did we manage to get by this far undetected at 'til now?" Scar asked, glancing to the man in the helmet.
"I have ways. A magician never reveals his secrets though, so don't bother trying to pry it out of me." Xisuma chuckled, starting back to the previous hall with the others.
"I'm sure we'll figure it out somehow." Impulse smiled. "I will uncover those secrets of yours, Xisuma!" he laughed slightly.
"I'm sure you will." Xisuma chuckled. He turned the corner, suddenly freezing as he looked down the hall... The others did the same upon seeing the watcher standing at the far end of it. The watcher stood, his side facing them. Slowly, he turned to look their way.
"Xisuma..." The watcher said.
Xisuma narrowed his eyes behind his helmet, and muttered almost bitterly.
"...Zeqain..."
