Chapter 60

(A/N: This is just a little reminder to all, in case you might have forgotten-

Mayank left Jahron to live in a city named Rimpson, where he met Keya.( As stated in Chapter 53 ))

Prabir halted his bike and was astonished to find Dhruv at the gate speaking with Mayank.

Mayank noticed Prabir and quickly strode towards him. " Prabir. Please help me save my mother," he pleaded.

Prabir raised his palm signalling him to stop and then looked at Parul.
"Please go in Paru," Prabir said brusquely.

When Parul was out of earshot, Prabir enquired quietly," What happened to her?"

"Maa had been sick for quite a long time but I never knew that she is in this miserable condition because of my...father.

She tried to stop him from doing wrong things and ...as a result he left her paralyzed and numb.

Nobody was expecting me at home but I wanted to see Maa once before I returned to Rimpson. I overheard my father speaking with her and one of the nurses.

Yes! I wanted to go abroad but not anymore and even my father isn't considering this decision seriously presently.

I don't want to leave Maa behind but can't take her with me to Rimpson. I can't be in the bad books of my father just yet.

Considering my low grades and scores, if I am thrown out of my school, I will not get admission anywhere else and thus, will fail to live up to Keya's dreams," Mayank concluded feebly. " I have lost Keya and now I can't lose her Prabir."

"You can leave her to my care, but yes , you will have to find nurses who would take turns in taking her care, as I won't be able to provide my undivided attention for 24/7," Prabir said thoughtfully.

"Thank you. Thank you so much," Mayank murmured and fell down on Prabir's feet.

Prabir picked him up from his shoulders and whispered," Mayank I too need a favor in return.

Nope! Actually two."

"Favor?Me?" Mayank asked bewildered.

Dhruv who had already known Mayank's story, had his eyes glued on a person parched on his bike, whose face was covered in his helmet. He seemed to have followed Prabir and halted his bike at a distance, away from the bright street lights in the dark. Dhruv softly inquired," Mayank. You see that biker? Is he one of your men?"

Mayank turned around to notice the man and blurted out," No! My men are in the SUV."

"Could he be your father's informant? He has been observing us for quite sometime now," Dhruv further enquired.

"No! He had been following me all the way here from Parul's dance class," Prabir informed.

Before Mayank could call his men and ask them to go after him, he fled driving at a dangerous speed.

"Okay! Dhruv. I am really sorry but I have no other option. You will have to vacate your room for the time being. You may leave your belongings there - only the bed..."Prabir stated bluntly.

"Yeah! No worries man!" Dhruv chirped in casually.

"You both bring her in. I'll change the sheets on my bed quickly," Dhruv said and darted in swiftly.

Mayank walked up to the SUV and cradled his mother in his arms like a fragile ragged doll. His men followed him with her luggage.

Mayank laid his mother gently on the bed as Dhruv fixed the pillows.

"Won't your father figure out... it's you who rescued her? She's unable to move and has nobody to help.

Will you still be in his good books?" Prabir asked observing him handle his mother delicately.

Mayank looked up at him and opened his mouth as if trying to say something but then slumped silently beside his mother on the bed.

"Anyways, the favors I need Mayank are...I need all three of your men for sometime," Prabir began pointing in the direction of Mayank's security personnel but Mayank sharply cut in demanding," My men?For what?"

"They have to claim that the money belongs to them and threaten someone.
If they do as I say, I'll let them keep all the money. They can distribute the money amongst themselves," Prabir said with rising amusement.

"What?" Mayank asked puzzled.

"Not your circus. Not your monkey.

Just leave your men with me and tell them to follow my instructions," Prabir added with sarcasm. "Ah! And I need you to find out that a****** who joined Ziko's team recently.

Ziko...Ummm... works for your father."

"How do you know Ziko?" Mayank queried bamboozled.

"I don't. But would like to thank him for saving someone's life," Prabir said dryly.

Mayank took his phone and started making calls to find out Ziko's number while Prabir rushed upstairs to see if Bhargavi was alright.

He softly knocked on the door and Parul ran to open it with tears streaming down her eyes like waterfall.

"Paru. What happened?" Prabir asked terrified.

"Bhaiya. Bhargu Di... You should see this," she said in a croaked voice and pulled his sleeves leading him to Bhargavi.

"Paru. No! He doesn't have to...," Bhargavi blurted out in disgust.

"What are you trying to hide Bhargu? What is it?" Prabir asked exasperated.

"Bhaiya. You need to look at her back. Nalini Aunty has beaten her so brutally. How can she so mercilessly thrash her like this?" Parul said sobbing.

Prabir was fuming with rage,"Bhargu. Let me see," he said and abruptly went behind Bhargavi and pulled up her t-shirt. Bhargavi tried to pull down her t-shirt several times, feeling embarrassed but gave up as Prabir insisted softly again and again,"It is nothing!

It's okay Bhargu. Let me see once."

He was rooted in that spot for a couple of minutes because of the view he had seen. He couldn't believe his own eyes. He wanted to see at first, as he felt Parul had a tendency of exaggerating things. She was a teenager, who was extremely concerned about even a pimple growing up on her face.

"Paru. You apply this ointment on her back.

Bhargu. Where did you keep the medicines the doctor gave you? I am going to your house, I'll get them," Prabir said trying to calm himself and passed an ointment to Parul from one of his drawers.

Bhargavi scowled at him defiantly and stayed mute, then asked softly, " Is it that bad?"

The look on Prabir's face had scared her though she had not taken Parul's reaction seriously.

I am not letting you go back to your house again Prabir thought to himself.

"I couldn't lay on my back, so I asked Parul to just take a look and apply something if needed," Bhargavi added sadly when Prabir didn't reply. "I left my medicines on my study table before leaving for college today but when I returned, it wasn't there.
Maa has almost wrecked havoc in my room."

Prabir didn't even care that Parul was still present in the room. He caressed Bhargavi's face and kissed her forehead before leaving.

Prabir's eyes were moist when he left his room and closed the door behind. He had never seen such a strong woman in his life. Bhargavi had no tears rolling down her eyes even though she was in immense pain. She always tried to fight back her tears in anyone's presence.

He swiftly went to his father's room and dragged two large empty bags downstairs.

He called up Mayank's men and instructed," Two of you will follow me into the house I am going, but after ten minutes, while one of you will be waiting in the SUV.

I will be pretending as if I am protecting them.

Don't act like you know me.

Cover up your faces before you barge in.

No one touches the women in the family, make it clear. But you will threaten them and demand YOUR money.

You fill up these bags with the money.

Pretend to count the money but don't sit down there counting the money for a Millenium.

Then back up and drive away with your money.

But again you can't leave Mayank here, so just drive away and return at the back door of this house.

You may take your guns but leave your bullets with Mayank.

If you enact your role well, all the money is yours as I already said.

If you have any queries, clarify it now itself, because if you mess up, forget about the money, I will kick your as*** red."

Mayank had called up Ziko and was eagerly waiting to speak with Prabir.

"The new team member of Ziko is  hospitalized. Each and every bone in his body was broken by Ziko and he said he would never let him join his team again," Mayank informed Prabir who had a wide grin spread on his face immediately.

According to Prabir's instructions, Mayank's men left the bullets before him on the bed.

"I will not tolerate any mistake," Prabir said hastily before running to the  kitchen and was aghast when he saw two of Mayank's men follow him to the kitchen.

He took the bowl, Bhargavi had brought earlier and cleaned it up. Then he filled it up with some sweets and chocolates.

He saw one of Mayank's men run straight to the SUV.

He face palmed inwardly and thought ridiculous fools!

He instructed the men following him to wait in the SUV with those two bags at a distance from Bhargavi's house and barge in her house after ten minutes.

He repeated again and again," No one gets harmed."

Finally, Prabir stepped inside Ghosh residence and upon pressing the door bell Bhawani opened the door in an instant.

She was shocked to see Prabir standing with the bowl in his hands instead of Bhargavi.

"Where is Di?" She blurted thoughtlessly.

"What do you mean Bhawu? She's not home?" Prabir retorted back looking even more surprised.

"Did something happen today Bhawu?" Prabir enquired curiously remarking Ms. Nalini who was lounged on the sofa.

He wanted to shake her vigorously and demand answers from her.

How could you do that to your own daughter?

How can you even imagine such horrible things about her? Only because she has wigs and pencil skirts, and you found some money, being a mother how can you judge your own daughter's character?

But he had to subdue his anger. He had a smile plastered on his face as he walked in.

Ms. Nalini's eyes were blood red and swollen. She was steel weeping, staring blankly at the television.

"Maa, what happened?" Prabir enquired quietly as if in shock after placing the bowl on the tea table.

"This is all my fault Prabir. I...I...have been such a careless mother.

She never let me or Bhawani touch her things and we respected her wishes.

I never knew my Bhargavi was hiding so much from me. Where did she get all that money from?

I...I found some skirts,wigs...in her room. You think she works somewhere as a bar dancer? " Ms. Nalini asked sadly.

In an attempt to trifle a laughter, Prabir hiccuped and sipped in some water from a glass placed on the table in front.

"I have beaten her up so brutally Prabir. I don't know where she is now. God forbids if something happens to her, I...I...will...," Ms. Nalini broke down. "She's not receiving my or Bhawani's calls. Please call her once Prabir."

Prabir knew Bhargavi would not receive his call as she had left her phone in his house, downstairs in the kitchen.

"Maa. I had seen Bhargavi help a girl learn her dialogues for a drama in college.

The wig and skirt could be Ipsita's. She's in the drama club," Prabir said politely.

They heard someone bang on the door hard. Bhawani stepped up to open the door, but was pulled back by Prabir.

Prabir opened the door and one of Mayank's gunmen placed his gun on Prabir's forehead.

"Where's my money?

I want my money back," he blurted furiously.

"What money are you talking about?" Prabir asked innocently.

"Don't play games with me and hand over my money," he retorted back angrily.

"Maa. Give him the money you found in Bhargu's room. I think he's here for that," Prabir suggested.

Both Ms. Nalini and Bhawani brought the money and handed it over to Mayank's men, who swiftly counted the money and left.

"Who were these people?" Prabir enquired with a concerned look and went straight to Bhargavi's room.

He had to search for her medicines before leaving.

Thankfully, Ms. Nalini didn't follow him as she was extremely shocked and distraught.

Prabir quickly searched the entire room and found her medicines lying on her bed hidden under a pile of clothes. He swiftly placed the envelope containing the medicines inside his t-shirt and tucked it in his jeans.

He grabbed a white blazer body suit he found and ran to Ms. Nalini,"Maa. I have seen Ipsita wear this during rehearsals."

Bhawani was trying to calm down her mother, who wouldn't stop crying and she felt tired and at the end of her wits and looked up at Prabir for some help.

Prabir sat down beside Ms. Nalini and whispered softly," Maa. Bhargu is hurt and gravely disappointed I believe.

She is all grown up now, no more a kid or a teenager.

She may hide things from you but she never lies to you.

If she couldn't tell you something...She kept secrets, she might be having a reason for it.

Thrashing and beating her up...trying to control her with fear and terrorizing her, isn't going to work anymore.

All it will do is create an invincible wall between you two.

Don't worry! She's going to be alright. I know her," he said at last reassuring her.
