Chapter 34

Prabir called out Bhargavi's name softly before entering her room, to know if she was still awake, as it was midnight when he had stolen in her house while everyone else was asleep.

"Prabu...ditch your good manners and help me", she snapped.

"Why are you on the floor wrapped in a towel?" he enquired curiously.

"Learning to swim without water", she said tersely.

"Seriously Bhargu...your sense of humor is killing me", he mumbled and picked her up from the floor, holding her shoulders. She held onto him tightly unable to walk but was able to stand up after making numerous failed attempts on her own.

She was eloped in his arms and he gingerly placed her on the bed. She laid down on the bed quickly and Prabir had a dead serious expression on his face.

"Where do you keep dry towels?" he enquired quietly.

"In the cupboard...but I don't know if you will be able to find it", she replied smoothly.

He walked up to the cupboard and placed his palms on the handle, when she hissed "Don't do that...it's not that I have snakes in there slithering but...it's a man made disaster".

Prabir gently pulled the handle and was burried under a pile of clothes.

"Ah!! My secret mess is revealed", she sighed.

He searched for a towel and rapidly paced in her direction, he made her sit up straight and sat behind her. Then he gently rubbed her hair dry with the towel and then made up a towel turban by flipping over her hair, wrapping the towel snugly around her head and twisting it, as it was dripping wet.

"Are you okay Bhargu?" He asked concerned.

"Umm...I am much...much better now", she said with a smile.

"Put on your clothes, I'll be back", he murmured and left her alone closing the doors behind. He leaned his back on the door and patiently stood waiting for around ten minutes feeling tensed and anxious.

Then he softly knocked on the door calling out, " Bhargu...can I come in?"

"Yes, please", she replied carelessly.

She made space for him to sit beside her, as she again laid down and patted on the bed gesturing him to take a seat.

He sat softly caressing her face and spoke, " Bhargu...you are okay, right?" his face looked pale and eyes revealed a lot of love and concern for her.

"I felt so tired but was unable to get any sleep at all, my head felt like it would split apart and I just gazed at the ceiling and sometimes outside the window for almost an hour.

Then I thought that maybe a shower would help me relax a bit.

When I was in the shower, the bulb got fused and I somehow managed to grab all my clothes and come back to my room.

As soon as I entered my room, my vision got distorted and blurred out of the blue and then everything seemed to be spinning around me and it just didn't stop, I lost my balance and fell down on the floor. I tried to sit up many times but couldn't", she simply stated.

"Do you have migraines Bhargu?" he quizzed.

"No..it must be due to fasting", she abruptly said and bit her tongue for having said that.

"What?" he asked exasperatedly.

"I was thinking about keeping a fast on every Tuesday and Thursday",she said cautiously.

"Why do you have to do that?" he snapped.

"The nightmare I saw yesterday... I don't want anything to happen to you Prabu, I need you to be safe", she admitted seriously.

"Bhargu...I have been trapped in living nightmares, that felt so real and.... I was awake all the time...I saw Maa in the hospital calling me..but I know...that none of it was real.

Having nightmares and getting scared is okay, but starving yourself is not okay Bhargu...

Your Maa must be really upset with you", he said sardonically.

"We almost had a cock and hen fight", she said amused.

"Gosh! Bhargu...why? Why do you always have to be like this?

You know how much it hurts?? I thought you are mature enough, but you are still a baby.

Everytime Paru refused to eat anything and starve herself, I never could get anything... to pass down my throat, till I convinced her to have something", he admitted in a very hurt tone.

She couldn't look into his eyes anymore, he looked so hurt and highly distressed.

"Did you have your dinner atleast?" he inquired.

"No...But I had some fruits in the evening",she replied instantly.

"I'll see what you have in the kitchen and bring it. In the meantime, you rest for a while.okay!", he said and walked away towards the kitchen.

He returned with a plate of some hot chana masala and two rotis. In addition he had stirred some salt, water and sugar solution in a glass, unable to find lemons for making a lemonade.

Bhargavi ate it all quietly as Prabir helped her sit up and fed her every morsel with his hand, and a satisfied grin displayed on his face.

He left her room, walked to the kitchen, cleaned the plate and placed it on the kitchen platform. Then returned and enveloped her in his arms, taking her to the kitchen.

"Now, rinse your mouth, then I'll take you back to your room", he said removing the towel wrapped on her head.

I thought you are mature enough but you are still a baby, his words replayed in her head. He surely was treating her like a little child. However, she obeyed him like a cute little girl not wanting to agitate him further.

He gently tugged her in her bed, changing the pillow cover which was damp because of her dripping wet hair, when she had laid down on it. It seemed a miracle that he never seemed to lose patience.

He pulled her up once again making her sit, "just give me two minutes, I'll tie up your hair",he said and started to make a lose plait as fast as he could without brushing or combing down her wet hair. Then asking her to hold the plait, he swiftly searched for a rubber band and tied it up with the help of a tiny rubber band he found on her table.

"Goodnight Bhargu", he said pressing his lips on her forehead and her heart sank, " she jumped up, sitting on her bed holding his arm, sneaking, " are you leaving?"

"No...no Bhargu..I am right here. I'll leave only after you are asleep", he whispered.

She made place for him to lie down beside her and gestured with her palm to lie down.

"Bhargu...will your Maa survive a heart attack, if she finds me snuggled up with you on your bed?" he asked amused." You never lock up your door", he added.

She pushed him away gently and whispered, " just slam that door shut and lock it up."

He chuckled, then shrugged his shoulders and bolted the door shut calmly, then returned to her smiling warmly and slid beside her, pulling the coverlet on both of them.

She ran her fingers on his face tenderly, saying," you knew that something was troubling me, I was hiding something from you and you were worried about me, but the most amazing thing is...you were here with me at the exact time... when I needed you the most.

You are an angel Prabu...sent from the Heaven above.. only for me."

He giggled out and pulled her closer. "Bhargu...I am not as stupid as you think I am. You told me all about Sarvesh and Dhruv in your last call but you did not ask me anything like if I already had my dinner, or when would I come to see you in the night as you usually do and you were in a rush to disconnect the call. You almost tried to avoid me. I knew instantly that there was something brewing up in your tiny little head.

Now try to get some rest, we'll talk later", he mumbled.

She kissed him passionately, almost out of her breath, chafing his lips in an attempt to mend the hurt she had caused to him by starving herself without food and water, and hiding it from him throughout the day.

He had lost himself in the passion, as his heart thrummed in his chest, he moved his hands up and down the length of her back.

When she pulled herself back, raising her head, looking dazed. Both of them had to take several minutes to calm down and catch their breath.

She placed her head on his chest, feeling his heart beats as he softly whispered, " I am impressed, now try to sleep Bhargu", dropping a kiss on her head with a hearty smile. She smiled back at him, and again burried her head in his chest.

He slowly stole out of the bed, when she was fast asleep, placing a tiny teddy bear in his place. Then he arranged and organized her belongings in the cupboard slowly and left carefully without making the slightest noise after leaving a message for her, written on a sticky note that read,

I understand Bhargu...that you want me to be safe and are scared because of that terrible nightmare...I promise..I will be careful while I drive and will drive slowly, please trust me.

Your loving angel.

She woke up in the morning and saw the teddy bear, which she had held in a strong grip and flung it away. She had never ever slept with a teddy before even as a kid, as she felt it was extremely childish.

Then she went straight up to the mirror placed in her room and found the sticky note on it and read it again and again.

She walked up to the cupboard to take out some clothes that she could put on while going for college and was stunned to see the manner in which everything was so neatly organized.

Her phone beeped with a sound of an incoming message, Bhargu are you feeling alright? If not, let me know , I'll take you to the hospital.
