Chapter 17
(A/N: Guys!!
A lot of interesting things start from here and I am sure you will like this chapter.)
A new beginning
Bhargavi's expressions on her face showed that she was not shocked, flustered or alarmed by his confession. She grabbed his wrist and urged him to follow her.
"Please sit," she pleaded Prabir as they entered his room. She sat beside him but facing him.
He had assumed to see shock or anger or something but, she had some unreadable expression on her face.
"I know I ...I am crazy, we have known each other for only five days," he gasped and looked away. "I...Bhargu...I did not want to confess my feelings for you like this...today... I am sorry." Pain was written all over his face, he was fidgeting.
She inched closer to him and cupped his face in her hands murmuring,
" Look at me Prabu...
You already know about my horrible past. I have never been able to make close friends because I didn't ever want to talk to anyone about my father...about what he did to my mother...and I never like people nagging me...asking questions about my mother's occupation or job profile.
I have hated men throughout my life because of several circumstances. I know my grandfather, saved my mother and got me treated but I still hate him because he never spared a moment to remind my mother that she had committed a sin by marrying my father against his wishes and was paying for it by raising two girls on her own.
It was his fault too,he did not provide my mother with a proper and solid education but always neglected her because she was a girl. My maternal uncle on the other hand received good education and left the country for a job in Singapore.
I hated men even more, when they casted dirty looks on my mother because she was a divorcee.
Then you came in my life Prabir, it was the first time I saw a man treat his sister so gently, it felt as if you had no other concerns in your mind other than seeing her happy. I saw you place the tiara on her head and say something to make her smile from a distance.
When I met your father it was the first time I realized what it feels like to have a father."
He furrowed his brows and looked into her eyes.
" Prabu..you think I don't notice anything just because you don't say it?
When I had a small cut on my finger...the worried expression on your face spoke volumes;
When my father raised his hand to slap me, it was the first time I had seen you angry and even scream.
You think I don't know what you feel Prabu?"
He looked tensed, nervous and impatient as well. He felt his heart would burst out of his chest.
She paused for a moment ruffling his hair softly, still gazing at him with great intensity as her heat beat frantically. She wanted to pull apart her gaze from his but couldn't.
She replied softly, after what felt like ages to him, " I didn't give it to you on purpose and can't figure out how you stole my heart.
How did I get it here with you Prabu..", she slightly touched the necklace he gifted " I don't know. I never meant to let it get this personal but whatever I tried to do....to stay away from you...from loving you...I can't.
Neither am I walking out of your life nor am I going to shut you out of my life ."
"Bhargu...I love you..I love you so much...I love you baby...", Prabir whispered smiling through tears as he controlled his urge of trying to pull her close and embrace in a warm hug. She definitely wouldn't like it, he thought.
She placed her head on his chest and leaned forward wrapping her arms around him, "I know..I know ...I love you too," she murmured into his chest smiling.
He wrapped his arms around her gently and slowly kissed her forehead and tugged her even closer to him saying, " I'll never hurt you Bhargu... because when you are hurt ...I am hurt too."
Then after sometime, she withdrew and he cuddled her up in his arms, she lightly squeaked, " What are you doing?"
" I am taking you to your room," he smirked.
"What if someone sees us? Put me down Prabir..please,"she urged.
"Nope! No one is awake Bhargu...shush! Don't make any noise," he chuckled.
He rapidly strode to her room with her in his arms and gently dropped her on the bed, covered her with the coverlet and whispered "Goodnight! My beauty queen," in her ears, gently stroking her head.
"Bhargu. Now don't lie to me,you were jealous when you saw me carry Keya to the dispensary. Right? "He sneered.
She nodded shyly in affirmation. He caressed her face tenderly and mumbled, " Bhargu... She needs an excuse for me to carry her, you don't. You are my queen, your wish is my command."
She giggled out aloud and placed her palm on her mouth to lower her voice. He pulled her hand off her face and gently pecked on her lips and walked out of the room closing the door behind, stepping outside her room he banged his chest softly several times, with his fist as his heart beat wildly and he felt so hot all of a sudden, breathing heavily, his handsome fair face turned into scarlet.
Bhargavi's heart raced wildly, her face was turned flame red. She kicked off the coverlet, unable to bear the heat.
Bhargavi and Prabir both were unable to sleep and in a mess of wild thoughts chasing them.
The next morning, everything was as usual, Parul and Mr. Banerjee left and then Prabir took Bhargavi to Parili, after a lot of blushing on seeing each other since the morning, they now seemed normal.
Mr. Ghosh had done his part, and the first floor was freshly painted a baby pink on the inside walls, white on the ceilings and the painting on the outside walls was yet to be done, but that could easily be completed even after they occupied the place.
They were again travelling to Parili, reliving their memories. Bhargavi sat close to him on his bike, wrapping her hands around his waist only after they had covered a distance from their house as Mr. Ghosh was standing at the front gate while they left for Parili.
Prabir had arranged a truck and few people who, helped them load the heavy furnitures on the truck. He also had arranged a car for Bhargavi and her family to bring them to Jahron city.
Bhargavi had happily introduced Prabir to her mother and sister. Prabir tried to help in every way he possibly could from packing up of the remaining items to helping carry the heavier articles.
Bhargavi was trying to carry a heavy metal trunk alone and it weighed so much that, in an attempt to place it instantly on the ground, by mistake she placed it on her left toe and screamed in pain.
Prabir who was helping carry a table ran quickly to help her. Her feet was crushed under the weight of the trunk. He lifted the trunk swiftly and she slipped out her toe. Without a second thought, he picked her up in his arms and rushed towards the bathroom. He placed her feet in a bucket half-filled with water making her sit on another bucket, placing it upside down. The injured toe looked bruised and bluish black.
"Bhargu...I'll be right back. Okay!" He spoke softly and turned around to leave and dashed into Bhargavi's mother.
Bhargavi's mother was standing at the door of the bathroom, as she had too rushed towards Bhargavi on hearing her scream and then followed Prabir.
Murmuring an apology he left. His face had a deathly pallor and was turned white with fear. While Bhargavi did not have a single drop of tear rolling down her face, Prabir's eyes were moist, he looked distraught, miserable and helpless.
Returning with some ice in a container, he dumped them into the bucket. He stood aghast on seeing the huge swelling on her feet.
Bhargavi's physical pain meant nothing to her, but a look at Prabir made her feel like her heart was being crushed. She held his hand whispering, " Prabu...I am okay!"
" I'll take you to the city hospital in Jahron,"he said abruptly and then started calling up someone.
Prabir had called up five of his closest friends Vishwesh, Shekhar, Rakesh, Abhijeet and Sachin.
Vishwesh was the first one to reach Parili in his car. As soon as he reached, Prabir said, " Vishwesh I have called up Shekhar, Rakesh, Abhijeet and Sachin...they might be on their way...please help aunty here, I am taking Bhargu...to the hospital," he said hurriedly and cradled up Bhargavi in his arms.
"Wait! Take my car," Vishwesh shrieked and hurried after Prabir.
Vishwesh held the passenger seat door open, as Prabir gently placed Bhargavi on the seat and hopped on to the driver's side while Vishwesh slammed the door shut.
It was Vishwesh who briefed Bhargavi's mother about Prabir's plans, though she already knew it,as she had heard him speak to his friends on phone.
"Prabu relax! I am okay!" Bhargavi said with a strained cheer on her face as he started the engine.
In half an hour Prabir was in the city hospital in Jahron, Bhargavi was taken in for an x-ray and it was found that she had fractured some small and fragile bones and it could take 4-6 weeks to heel completely.
She had to prop her foot up on some pillows, to help reduce the swelling. Thankfully, surgery was not required.
When the doctor left after the discussion, Prabir held Bhargavi in a tight embrace and mumbled in the crook of her neck " Why are you so reckless Bhargu?"
"Now call your Maa, she must be really worried. I am outside," he said stroking her head and turned to leave.
She held his arm and gestured to sit down beside her. He sat quietly, as she called her mother and informed everything.
***********
Parul had distributed chocolates in school among her classmates, they either took it because they did not want to be on her bad books again or because of her cheerful smile, but again Sarvesh did not even bother to look at her as he was humiliated in the class by Bhargavi earlier.
Parul left two chocolates on his desk and walked back to her own desk, but he hurled those in the waste basket.
He saw Parul, picking up the chocolates from the waste basket without a word.
While returning home, he saw Parul give those chocolates to two tiny kids of class 1 on the bus and few other kids of the same class came to her asking for their share.
She pecked the cheek of the little girl, whom she had given a chocolate and taking it from her, she divided the chocolate and shared it equally among the six kids. She did the same with the other chocolate too. The kids were super excited and waved her goodbye frantically at her stop.
Sarvesh, was mesmerized by her beautiful smile, and after she got down from the bus and it had covered a little distance, he too got down from the bus and slowly followed her from a distance.
Parul walked up to her house to find that it was locked, Prabir seemed to be nowhere, but she saw Vishwesh in front of Mr. Ghosh's residence instructing people to be careful while unloading articles from the truck.
Parul had never seen the other people before, so she finally decided to ask Vishwesh what was going on.
Vishwesh himself came strolling up to her and said, " Parul ...Prabir is in the hospital... Bhargavi had a small accident and has a broken toe."
"What?" Parul snapped.
"Take me to the hospital now," she demanded.
"Parul ...Prabir is on his way, he's coming. As you see the unloading is almost done.He needs to speak to these people and their payment has to be done,"Vishwesh informed.
"But then Di will have to stay alone in the hospital?" Parul enquired.
" No my dear! Your father is with her, she is admitted in the same hospital. Prabir most of the time was running frantically in empty corridors calling out for his dead mother. He wanted to help but created more troubles and had to be dozed off to sleep using medications. But he's awake now, Shekhar and Rakesh have gone to pick him up," he sighed.
