Ch.2 - Future

Katie~

I crept out of bed cautiously, I stood and reached under my bed where the light was coming from. I felt a circle of warm metal and wrapped my fingers around it. Then I pulled it out, sure enough the thing was glowing, it's glow almost the same colour as the emerald in it's surface.

I felt a sudden urge to put it on my finger so I sat on my bed and studied it before I, slowly, slipped the silver ring onto my right index finger.

My room began to spin and spin, faster and faster, in seconds my room was spinning so fast that everything was mashed together and blurred. Then everything turned a blinding white and my feet left the ground.

Katie Myob! A voice boomed but it felt like it was in my head.

"Y-yes?" I gulped, I turned to try to find the voice but I was alone.

You have one of the five rings, you must find the rest before... She does. It said loudly.

"But... How? What?" I was confused now, everything was happening so fast.

The voice seemed to sigh, everything shall be clearer when you find the others. But for now, you must find Charlie Brisbane.

"O-ok, I guess." I was still confused but at least I knew what I was doing.

He lives several hundred years in the future so that's where I'm sending you. Good luck, Katie.

My vision turned white then flashed black, my head hurt suddenly and I opened my eyes to find myself standing on a pure white sidewalk. People floated by on these little ovals and everyone- and I mean everyone- was wearing white. Then I realized everything was white! I turned and started walking down the street with a few people who, I guessed, were either poor or broke for they didn't have any floating device. And everyone was dressed in what seemed like long dresses and lab coats.

I frowned to myself as I walked, my ring seemed to tug at my finger gently, it felt as though it was pulling me down a larger street and pulled me pass huge mansion-sized houses. There was one particular house that I couldn't keep my eyes off of and my ring seemed to pull me to it.

It was pure white with ancient greek pillars and steps. The door had strange carvings on it and the windows were gigantic.

I walked up the large steps to the front door then I took a deep breath and knocked three times on the soft wood. I heard many sets of feet as the door opened and an old man with white hair and in a white tux stood in the doorway.

"Hello, miss. What may I do for you?"

"Um, does Charlie Brisbane live here?" I asked him nervously, twining my fingers together; a nervous habit.

"Yes, would you like to see him?" The man, which I presumed to be a butler, asked me with a kind smile on his old face.

"Yes, please." I nodded politely and continued to twine my fingers.

"Give me just a moment then miss." He left me to my thoughts as I waited.

What will happen when I meet this Charlie? Will he believe me? Can I trust him?

The butler came back with a brown haired boy about my age. He had hazel eyes, pale skin, and a scar on his left cheekbone. He wore a bright orange T-shirt under a clean white lab coat, jeans, and glowing gym shoes.

"Do I know you?" He asked rudely as he crossed his arms. I had to look up to see his face because he was an inch or two taller than me.

"May I speak with you alone?" I asked, glancing at the butler who still stood in the doorway.

The boy frowned but nodded, he motioned for me to follow him up a huge set of stairs inside. Which I did, he led me to a large bedroom with white walls, carpet, and ceiling. It had a huge white bed and two large windows with a chest and three dressers and display cases and there was a giant desk in the corner.

"There, now what do you want?" He asked as he closed the door, his voice was surprisingly level.

"Do you have a ring?" I asked, twining my fingers faster.

"Yes, I have several." He went a grabbed a small box and opened it, inside were rings of all sorts.

"Are you Charlie Brisbane?"

"Yeah," he nodded and started closing the box.

"Don't!" I stopped him and grabbed a golden ring that had symbols and runes along it's surface and an amethyst was embedded in it's golden surface. "This is it!"

"What?" Charlie asked as he stared at it in confusion.

"See?" I held out my hand, I would've taken my ring off but it wouldn't budge.

He studied the rings then nodded, "Ok?"

"This means I did it! I found the next ring! Put it on!" I didn't know if this would actually work but it was the best I had.

Charlie gave me a funny look but did as I said and as soon as the ring slid on his finger the amethyst started glowing purple while my emerald started glowing green. Then everything melted into white and we started floating timelessly.

You have done right, Katie Myob. The voice phraised me with what seemed like delight.

I bowed my head, "It didn't take long."

No, no it didn't. Then the voice seemed to turn to Charlie. Charlie Brisbane?

"W-who are you?" He asked shakily, making me place my hand on his arm to help comfort him.

I am Newblandusaraya, but call me New. And this is Katie Myob, the one who I sent to seek you out.

"Why am I here?" Charlie gained strength from my touch and his eyes seemed to harden in confidence.

Because you must find the other rings before... She does... The voice grew quiet for a moment, will you join us, Charlie?

"S-sure..." He nodded and I pulled away with a smile.

Good, then, next is to the old west to find John Willis. Good luck my heroes.

Then everything turned white then flashed black. When I opened my eyes I found that me and Charlie were standing in an open field with long grass.
