Chapter 19

"Redstar."

The red MountainClan leader looked at her bravely. "That's me."
"So then who is-?"

Duskshadow, Deerhawk, and Mudkit.

Willowmoon gaped at the warrior sized black cat. Glassy eyes stared back at her.

"But, how?"

Redstar sighed. "Bloodnight-"

"Bloodstar." Deerhawk interrupted.

"Bloodstar knocked us all out in the middle of the night. He dragged us here. One by one."

"So why don't you go back?"

"Because-" Duskshadow started.

"Because you don't know him like I do." Redstar glared down at the ground. Her silver claws flashed out and dug into the ground.

"I found Graypool." She continued. "At the time, she was a helpless kit. I remember looking into her eyes. They were gray with sadness. She had been abandoned.

"I took her back to the clan. I was only a warrior at the time. I raised her along with my sisters. Eveningsea.... Eveningsea found out she loved raising kits then. Anyway, as Graypool grew up, she was good friends with Honeytuft. Back then, Honeytuft was training to be a medicine cat. But everyone could see it. The two cats loved each other. When they got their new names, they were just friends. But ten moons later... Honeytuft, who was training Greenpaw, noticed that Graypool was expecting his kits. They tried to hide it, but then Graypools kits were born a moon early. I became leader and StarClan told me all of it. I told Honeytuft. He spoke with StarClan and came back in tears. He said that StarClan had rejected him.

"When Graypool had her kits, it was during a battle. Honeytuft helped her, but then he ignored her. She had two toms. One was named after her broken heart, Brokenkit. The other was named after the blood she had experienced over the battle. Bloodkit. The last one... A BrightClan queen gave to her during the battle. The queen said she couldn't take care of him. Bumblekit was his name. Honeytuft hated his kits. He blamed them for taking his dreams about helping his clan. Brokenkit and Bumblekit were both weak. They were bullied by other kits. Bloodkit stood up for his brothers. He was strong. He was my apprentice, when their ceremony came. Then right before their warrior ceremony, Brokenpaw was crushed by a falling tree. Bumblestone, once he got his warrior name, ran away. He couldn't handle the grief. Bloodnight was broken. Both of his brothers had left him. He hadn't been able to protect them. Mosspoppy helped him regain strength. He loved her. Then they had you. After your brother Thunderkits death, Bloodnight couldn't handle it."
Willowmoon gasped. There had been so much she hadn't known. The pieces of the puzzle were fitting together. Bloodstar hadn't just wanted power. He wanted love and happiness. He was willing to do anything to get that back."

"So... Bloodstar then left to find Bumblestone."

"Now he's with the Night-bloods." Redstar said gravely.

"Redstar... Is Swallowtail here."

Redstar just looked away.

"Redstar, it's fine that you exiled her. We need to get her back though." Wolftail said.

"Please." Willowmoon added, grief stinging her head.

"Redstar, go get some rest." Mudkit interrupted. "The rest of you, Redstar, loved Eagleheart. When he died, a piece of her died with her."

"Andddd let's end this day on a happy note, so would you two like some prey?" Duskshadow said, cutting in.

"Yes."

Willowmoon sat down with a rabbit, and shared it with Wolftail. He rolled his tail over hers.

"So... how is my family?" Mudkit asked.

"Eveningsea and Blackfang still miss you. They would be overjoyed to see you again. And your siblings..."

"They must have gotten their warrior names by now." Mudkit hung his head.

"Mudkit..."
He swung his head back up. "I'm not Mudkit anymore. I'm Mudhop."
"Really?" Wolftail asked.

"Yes, Redstar found ways to train me. I'm not as good as other apprentices, but I can hunt very well."

"Definitely."

"Anyway, what are my littermates' names now?"

"Well, my apprentice was Dreamwing, Rubyclaws was Sandstone, and Wolftails was Carrotpelt."
"Those are great names."

"It's sundown." Deerhawk said, peeking outside. "Duskshadow, help me move the boulder.

"Ok."

The two toms reached up and pushed a boulder into the entrance of the cave.
"Were stuck! Why did you do that?!" Willowmoon yelped.

"Relax! We can move it back. It's there so that a fox doesn't sneak in and kill us."
They were brought to a small opening down a tunnel.

"You can sleep here. If you need us, go back up, and take a right."
"Goodnight."

Willowmoon settled down into the warm moss. Wolftail laid down next to her, curling his tail over her back. She tucked her head next to his and StarClan brought them sleep.
