Survival ~23

The darkness.

They're becoming shadows.

There is light.

What is it?

Why is it here?

It hurts.

Such pain.

She moved.

Sounds floated through the space.

I don't know...

It hurts my head.

I swear, she did.

Shut up.

I flinched as something shifted under me.

"I told you!"

I cracked open one eye, but quickly shut it.

"Are you alive Y/n? Please speak to me!" It was Sans' voice.

"Hnnnng..." Was all I could manage.

"Oh! Oh! She's alive! Guys! GUYS!!!"

I sat up slowly, rubbing my eye. I recognized our family room, and I was on the couch. Gaster, Ink, Papyrus and Frisk were surrounding me, and Sans was on the couch next to me. "Wha..."

"What do you remember?" Gaster asked softly.

"Uh..." it hurt my head to think. "We were fighting, and I was tied up, and..."

"Okay, that's good. No amnesia. You passed out just about then." Gaster set his hand on my knee, nervous. "So, you only had a small fraction of a soul left, and I managed to take Chara's soul and give it to you. You-" he choked up. "You've been asleep for a couple months now."

My eyes widened, surprised. Now that I thought about it, I felt stiff and tired. "...so tired."

"Sleep. Get lots of rest." Sans pushed me over, letting me stretch out on the couch.

I was asleep instantly.

Papyrus' POV

Y/n was asleep for a long time. Then she woke up! Dad told her all about what happened, and then Sans made her go back to sleep. I missed making spaghetti for her; she always loved it. I can tell Sans wants her to wake up too- he loves her a lot, you know.

The next couple weeks everyone just sat around, feeding Y/n if she woke up for a few minutes. It was boring, and I missed Y/n a lot.

I hope she doesn't die.

Sans' POV

Y/n slipped in and out of consciousness  for the next few weeks, and I tried to get her to eat whenever I could. It was hard, having to sit around all day. All I could do was think about Error and where he might be now.

It was really taking a toll on me- emotionally and physically.

"Sans, don't you think you should eat something? You haven't gotten off that couch since Y/n woke up the first time." Gaster set a hand on my shoulder, making me jump slightly.

"Nah, I'm ffine..." I slurred. I could feel myself shutting down, but I had to keep going- for Y/n. "What iff she wakess up..?"

"Sans, as your father I-" I cut him off as Y/n shifted. I lifted her head onto my lap, stroking her hair.

"Y/n? Yoo awakke?" She opened her eyes, and they stayed open.

"Sans? You look miserable." She laughed softly.

"Welll you look like you caame back ffrom the dead." I laughed, but quickly stopped. My skull felt like it could split into a million pieces.

"I did, ya dork."

We sat like that for a time, while she woke up more. "Yoo up for goood this time?"

"I sure hope so. But Sans, you seriously sound awful. Let's eat." Papyrus happily brought us two plates of spaghetti, and we both scarfed it down, happy things were somewhat back to normal.

"Say Sans, what happened to Error after everything?"

Your POV

Sans stiffened, but slowly responded. "He disappeared, and Ink has been looking for him. Just last week he told us he was on his trail, but I haven't heard anything since."

It was nerve wracking to think that Error was still out there. "Well at least I'm still alive, am I right?" I pulled out my new soul and looked at it for the first time.

"It's a monster soul!" I said in surprise.

"Yeah, it was a soul that Chara 'borrowed in order to survive."

"Kinda like I did." I said quietly.

"Y/n, I was hoping, if you don't mind, if I could do a small test on your soul? I'm curious who's soul it is, and how it has bonded with you." Gaster stepped over.

"Oh! I guess that's fine, sure." The three of us teleported to the lab. Frisk went with Papyrus to go tell Undyne I was officially awake at his training, so it was just us.

Gaster sat me on the edge of a metal table, a tray of small tools next to me. "Okay, I only need to insert one needle, so relax for one second." I squeezed Sans' hand as Gaster shot the needle into my soul, making me flinch. I didn't despise needles like other people, but they still hurt.

"All done. All I need to do is run the soul material through the DNA machine, and it should be able to tell us." The small device beeped, and Gaster gasped.

"What? Who's was it?"

"It- It was Jeff's." He whispered.

Sans and I just stared. "That name sounds vaguely familiar..." he mused.

"Jeff was my best lab assistant by far. He practically raised you, Sans. He was a cat monster."

Sans perked up at the last sentence. "Oh yeah! I remember him! Wait, so how did Chara get his soul?"

Gaster furrowed his brow. "Well, I'm assuming that it was during The Project. Perhaps when it exploded, Chara took his soul. I've never heard of something like that happening, as the circumstances were one of a kind."

"So I guess I'm technically a monster now? Cool!" I exclaimed.

There was a loud crash! "Guys, I found him!"

Sorry for the delay, updates might be odd for a little while. I'm getting more involved on the UTAU Amino, so that's going to change my schedule. (Follow me for cool art if you're on there :P)

Love you, my little stars!
