Wrench Part 1

"Deal"

•• 📎 ••

Oversight took you out of the room and into another, handing you a slip of paper.
"Just sign here, and everything falls into place."

Without much of a second thought, you took up the pen and signed the paper. Of course you had read the thing, you weren't stupid. With everything looking okay, you were hoping this would finally help you get back to your life. A life that, up till now, had been totally orientated arround surviving until the next day.

When Oversight saw that you had signed, he waved an armed field operative over (he clearly didn't trust you as far as he could throw you, but that wasn't saying much considering if you let him he could throw you pretty far away) who quickly unlocked your handcuffs. You could almost taste the freedom when you felt a sharp pain in your arm. Glancing over, you turned to see the operative stood beside you, a needled sticking out of your arm as he pushed its intoxicating contents into your blood stream.

Quickly, you began to try and struggle against the operative, but he was holding you in the chair. You went to punch him, but were too weak as the drug began to take effect. Darkness began to cloud your vision as you slumped over in your chair. Looking up, faintly, the old real thing you could see was the almost-happy face of James MacGyver, before the darkness took over your mind and you slipped into unconsciousness.

~~ Eyy peeps! It's bob again! ~~

Middle of California, an unknown amount of time later

3rd person POV

It was a peaceful day in California. Mac, Jack and Riley had just returned from a mission that went a little south. Luckily (thanks to Mac of course) they all made it out alive, and as a plus they got away with the package, despite Jack's driving methods. Which was a small positive in the chaos of things. The sun was high in the sky as it was almost noon when the commotion started, and ruined the peacefulness of the day. Peace was a rare occurrence so the team weren't too surprised to find it ruined. What it was ruined by, however, had a different reaction.

Mac and Jack were at home- but Riley had been on her way down to the lab, not really paying attention to the ground in front of her, when her foot connected with something hard yet squishy and she was sent tumbling too the ground with a loud, undignified, yelp.

"What the-?!"

Riley had pulled herself off of the ground, her eyes met with the h/c hair covered face of Agent Y/n L/n.

"Y/n!? Are you alright?"

Shaking the girls shoulder, Riley stepped sideways briefly before taking off at a run towards where Thornton had gone after their sparing.

---

2 hours, a change of clothes and a shower later, the whole team was in the war room.

"Charlie Robinson, how do you know him?"

Glancing between eachother, you and Mac smiled before he replied.

"EODs a small world, we worked a couple of missions together"

"All 3 of us spent 2 weeks in Kabul dismantling IEDs - 127 to be specific." You finished quickly from your place in the leather chair beside Mac. You were still a little fuzzy after the whole thing after the past few days- being unable to remember any of it didn't help the fact you were still glaring daggers at your boss. "It was a company record."

"Anyways, he is one of the best bomb techs I've ever worked with. Thats including Y/n over here."

Although Mac's smile was genuine, it didn't hide the uncertainty and fear very well- not from you anyway. Tearing his eyes away from you, Mac continued his short explanation. He didn't risk a glance back at you again.

"Last I heard he was doing bomb analytics for the FBI in Quantico?"

"Still is, I get a call from the.. deputy director who say Agent Robinson needs to see you, Mac." This time it was your boss who looked in your direction, though it was only a brief motion, the hatred hidden behind it was clear as day. "Only you." She added with both a nod and a small smile of achievement. It suddenly dawned on you that your old friend Charlie might not even know you were alive, or on his side anymore.

The sudden spike of nerves in MacGyvers voice brought you back to the present. "Is he okay?"

"FBI Agents in New York found and disabled an explosive device in the parking garage near the UN. Agent Robinson was brought in from Quantico to examine it, took one look; called headquarters requesting they find you. I was told there were only 2 people in the world he would trust to look at this, and you being the only pair of eyes still breathing, you're the only other he trusts to look at this device."

"Charlies one of the best, if he needs be it must be-"

"Serious." Your boss interrupted, and something inside you burned. Something about Thornton bugged you since your return, and you were dying to find out why. "Peace talks are taking at the UN in 24 hours" she continued, "If someone is looking to disrupt them with violence it could set the talks back... years. So you're wheels up to New York in 30 minuets."

"But what about Y/n? Shes the best bomb tech this country has ever seen!" Mac argued quickly.

"Shes also unstable and uncontrollable at times. You're going alone, end of discussion."

Mac went to leave but you got up and swiftly grabbed his arm. "Mac!"
He physically jumped and, with an almost angry look in his eyes, pushed your hand off of him. If you didn't know your best friend, you could have said he looked disgusted by your hand being on his flesh. But that wasn't possible, Mac was the kindest person ever- he wouldn't do that to you.

"No Y/n, you heard Thornton- I'm going alone. I'll call for you and the others if things go sideways."

And with that, the conversation was seemingly over- and the only person you had trusted in years walked from the room without even a look back at you. And, even though you tried not to, you could feel what was left of the happiness you had reclaimed since the incident 2 years ago, shatter into a million pieces. Only, you were Y/n L/n, the best Agent DXS and Phoenix has ever seen- and the best bomb tech. No wasn't an answer you were willing to accept.

~ New York, a few hours later - TEDAC (FBI Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Centre) (I really wish we had one of these here!)~

"Good to see you, Charlie"

"Hey, Mac! Listen, I need to talk to you about something- not now though."

With a small, and uncertain laugh, Mac agreed. "Okay then."

"California's treating you well, hey Mac! I figured you would be tan and fat right now"

Mac laughed, happy to be back with his friend even his 'big brain of his' was off somewhere else.

"Nice to see you, Charlie. So what do we got?"

After a quick change into a bomb suit, Mac and Charlie were inside a room with the bomb.

"They found it wedge against a support beam of a parking garage a half-block from the UN" (If someone can tell me how far that is, please do!) "First techs on scene followed a standard course of action, deployed a water cannon to disable it. X-Rayed it, and when it came up clean, brought it here. I was called in a few hours later."

Inspecting the frankly poorly built bomb, Mac took in all sides of in a flash. "Its a crude build. Sloppy technique, off the shelf components, electric detonator, mobile phone trigger. This isn't nothing you haven't seem before, Charlie, why did you call me in?"

"The explosive compound is PETN. Pure, PETN. Made from the heart medication itself."

"That would take some serious technically skill to pull off. Not a whole lot of people who can do that."

"I can think of only 2. It's gotta be her."

"That isn't possible, Charlie. We found Y/n 3 weeks ago in Venesuella. It can't have been her that set this."

"Wait, really?!"

"Yes, but we can talk about this later."

"If you're certain it isn't her, then i can think of only one."

Mac sighed, this was going nowhere.

"He doesn't operate on US soil."

"I know, I know. Maybe I'm just jumping at shadows, but thats what I needed you here for. So please, take a look. Tell me I'm wrong."

And so Mac did, carefully removing the trigger and cutting open the casing only to find-

"A secondary device..."

"3D Printed Polymer detonator, invisible to X-Rays."

Glancing between eachother, Mac slowly and carefully pried open the lid of the device, setting off a Trojan horse bomb.

"Get everyone out of the building!" He yelled, as Agents began rushing towards the nearest exits. But as the FBI were running out, a h/c haired, s/c coloured woman dashed past the fleeing crowds of people and into the direct line of fire. As she reached the room the pair were working in, Mac was pulling off his suit helmet and already getting to work- but neither of the two had noticed her arrival. Charlie was helping Mac pull his suit jacket off and the girl grabbed that, the bomb, and sprung into action.

Wrapping the bomb in the coat, she took of running in the direction of the exit.

"Y/n?!"

Not stopping to explain, you only stopped when you reached the car park for the building. Glancing around, you slammed the coat-wrapped-bomb over a sewer entrance and only then noticed the other two EODs had joined you. Noticing what you were up to, Mac dragged the coat off of Charlie, who was staring at you beyond belief, and threw it at you to wrap around the bomb while he pushed over a bin. to lay atop it. Charlie and Mac covered the bomb with that and you hotwired a car and pinned the bin down with that.

'Thank the stars above I still know how to do that...'

"Lets get to cover!" Mac shouted to you, dragging the still staring Charlie with him behind another car nearby. Rushing to join them, you only just made it in time for the blast to only singe the ends of your hair. Unfortunately, the shockwave sent all 3 of you flying to the floor and your head to the stone floor.

You could feel the warm blood pulse out of the wound like a tap and could see Mac's mouth moving, but the adrenaline was fading and the rush you were on before was too- fading fast. Your ears were still muffled from the shear sound of the blast and you were internally thanking yourself for the running you had done in the past making you able to get there in time. Lord knows how that would have gone otherwise.

Somewhere far away, sirens were blaring as police and EMTs alive suddenly surrounded the scene of the blast. Paramedics ran over and quickly began attending to you who was still a little disorientated. So much for staying out of the way...

From the back of the Ambulance where you head was being wrapped in gauze, you only heard snippets of Mac and Charlies conversation.

"That would have killed every Agent in the building."

"Thats the idea- and then you know what-"

"So- I'm not crazy. You- I'm thinking?"

Mac must have agreed because the next statement by him made your blood run cold.

"Yeah, the Ghost is back."

HI I'M SO SORRY ABOUT NOT UPDATING!

As you're probably aware, COVID is a big thing and my family and I have been struggling with it... long story short- I had to burry my older brother the other day. I'm not saying this for sympathy, I'm just explaining why I haven't been updating like a promised I would. But I hope this slightly longer chapter makes up for the lack of updates. More should be coming soon!

Also, sorry if any of the terms in this are wrong. I am not American and haven't been for a long while and so some things might be a little different statement wise. Sorry again!

Peace out!
