Chapter 5: The Hot Spring Incident

"Uncle Iroh!" Y/n heard Zuko yelling.

She quickly sunk back into the steaming water of the hot springs.

"Uncle Iroh!" He shouted again.

After a quite minute he didn't shout again, so Y/n assumed he had found his uncle.

After being at sea for so long, Y/n missed taking long relaxing baths in warm water, so when she discovered the hot springs, she took the opportunity and so did Iroh in the far away neighboring springs.

But the quiet didn't last long as footsteps were heard coming from the tall grass.

As a precaution, Y/n grabbed her spear (that was next to the spring) and held it above the water, while keeping her body under.

"Y/n?!" She heard Zuko's voice, "I'm not looking! I swear! My Uncle told me you were here" he came out of the tall grass, one hand over his eyes and the other in front of him feeling around to make sure he isn't bumping into anything.

Immediately a heated blush spread on her face, flustered and embarrassed, "yes, I'm right here, but c-can you turn around? If you don't mind?"

Zuko instantly spun around so that his back was facing her, hand still covering his eyes he said, "I only came to let you know that we'll be leaving in half an hour"

"You wouldn't dare leave without me" she said, "besides I'm the Com--"

"Thirty minutes, Y/n!" He interrupted, "and I will leave without you and my uncle"

"Fine, I'll be there soon" she said, "now a little privacy please?"

"Hurry!" He said as he walked back into the tall grass.

Submerging completely underwater Y/n enjoyed the last few minutes before she'd have to leave.

"You're back ten minutes early" Zuko said as Y/n as walked up the ramp to the ship, bundle of dirty clothes under her arm, spear in other and wore fresh clean clothes under her armor.

"Wouldn't want to leave you in charge of my crew" she smiled, "so shall we keep heading North?"

"No! Not without my uncle!" He said.

"He's still not back?" Y/n questioned.

"He should be back soon, the half hour is almost up" he said.

The rest of the day was uneventful, and stubborn Zuko refused to go get his uncle, until eventually the night fell.

"Zuko, we need to get going, we've wasted an entire day" Y/n said as a solider helped her get onto a rhino, "if you don't get Iroh then I will" she took her spear.

"Fine, move back" he said.

"No way, you go in the back" she said not moving from the reins.

Zuko let out a sigh and joined Y/n on the rhino.

"Uncle!" Zuko yelled as he got off the rhino, "this is where he was"

Y/n got off the rhino as well and handed the reins to a solider near by, looking around the dark forest.

"Uncle, where are you?" Zuko called out, walking up to an empty hot spring.

"Sir, maybe he thought you left without him" a solider said.

Y/n ignored the comment, knowing Iroh would never, and examined the rocks, they were in a very particular shape, pointing upwards.

"Somethings not right here!" Zuko said.

Y/n pointed, "these rocks"

"It looks like there's been a landslide, Miss" a solider said, while Zuko came over to examine the rocks.

Y/n gave him a semi glare, "no! There pointed upwards! Land doesn't slide uphill!"

"These rocks didn't move naturally," Zuko said standing up straight, "my uncle's been captured by Earth benders!"

"Alright, divide and conquer in pairs!" Y/n immediately started ordering, "find any signs of the earth benders! Get Iroh back if you can!" She looked at Zuko.

"Yes, I know," then he mumbled, "bodyguard"

Y/n let out an exhausted yawn as they got off the rhino to continue the search on foot.

"We've been out all night, guess they did get far" she commented as they walked down a dirt path.

Up ahead there was an object on the path. Zuko hurried over and picked it up. It was a sandal.

"What do you think? Is it your uncle's?" Y/n asked, keeping a distance from the smelly item.

Zuko took one quick sniff at it before backing away as well, "ugh. Yup, that's uncle Iroh"

Y/n walked a bit farther down the path, noticing animal tracks, "looks like we have a trail, ZuZu"

Back on the rhino, they followed the tracks, eyes and ears alert for any signs of the tea loving man.

"Zuko look!" Y/n pointed at the sky, where the flying bison was seen, "the Avatar!"

Zuko looked up at it, slightly turning the reins, then looked back at the tracks.

Y/n could tell that he was torn between the two.

"Look, go rescue your Uncle" Y/n said hopping off the rhino, "I'll go get the Avatar, divide and conquer, ZuZu"

"Sounds like a plan" he said, "you want to take the rhino?"

"Nah, I'll go on foot" she said looking up at the sky, the flying bison was still there, "I never liked these things anyway-- I better get going before I lose them" she kept her eye on the sky as she ran back through the path they just traveled, "I'll see you back in the ship!"

Zuko nodded and called out, "better come back with the Avatar!"

Y/n had followed the flying bison to a rather small village. But dressed in her fire nation armor, the Avatar and his friends would obviously recognize her, she wouldn't be able to enter the village.

So instead, she kept watch from the outside, discovering that the bison had not been the Avatar, but instead a girl.

'must be the water bender, Zuko was taking about, the one who lost her necklace!' she thought.

Y/n kept her watch on the village all day from on top of a tree, where she had a perfect view of the village and the sky. She could even perfectly hear conversations from where she sat.

At sunset, a familiar glider with a boy came in swooping down the village.

"You're back!" The girl exclaimed tackling the Airbender with a hug, "where's Sokka?"

"I'm not sure" he said disappointed.

'well I can't go and grab him now, he'll just fly away' Y/n thought, 'guess I'll just wait till everyone asleep-- yeah! It'll be way easier to get him then! I wonder if Zuko's found his uncle yet'

But it looked like they weren't getting any sleep because as soon as the last lights of day went out, a black and white creature came and destroyed a building in the village.

Some how the Avatar was able to calm it down and spoke to it, something about a destroyed forest and being angry and something about acorns. Then the creature seemed to calm down and turn into a panda, it left the village, leaving bamboos at the gate, which people came out of it shortly before magically disappearing.

The whole scene left Y/n flabbergasted as the only thing that came to her mind was that this was a spirit.

"Makes sense" she whispered to herself as she leaned in on the branch to be able to listen in closer.

"I need to talk to Roku, and I think I found a way to contact his spirit" the Avatar said.

"That's great!" The girl said.

"Creepy, but great" the boy, who Y/n assumed was the girl's brother, Sokka said.

"There's a temple on a crescent shaped island, and if I go there on the solstice, I'll be able to speak with him" he said.

"But the solstice is tommorow!" The water bender said.

"Yeah and there's one more problem," the Avatar said, "the island is in the Fire Nation"

'Crescent Shaped? He's must be talking about The Fire Temple on Crescent Island!' Y/n thought as she climbed down the tree and ran back through the path to the ship. But halfway down the path, she ran into Zuko with what seemed the whole crew ship and his Uncle Iroh.

"Y/n! Where's the Avatar!" Zuko asked with a hint of anger.

"Did you bring the whole crew? Everyone hurry back to the ship! Get it ready to depart!" She commanded and the soliders scurried off, "we have a destination!"

"Y/n where's the Avatar?" Zuko asked once more.

"He's going to Crescent Island" she answered, "we need to get there first! Great! You found your Uncle!" She smiled at the man, but they kept moving down the path at a fast pace.

"It's great to be back!" Iroh said cheerfully, "but are you sure going back to the fire nation is a good idea?"
