Chapter 2

(It's pronounced KEY-ro)

"CARIO!" A shrill screech spread a smile across Faer's mouth as she stepped into the armory, dropping her phone into a pouch on her side and casually leaning back against the doorway she came through, her arms crossed over her chest as she watched the events unfolding before her.

"I didn't do it, Elaine! I promise!" A monster stood in the middle of the room, his talons held over his head as he backed up on lion paws. He had a feathery tail tucked between the legs of his armor, his feathers around his neck fluffing as he flinched.

In front of him was a very upset woman that at full height was at least ten feet, the rattle of a snake's tail flickering as she hissed at the griffin, the lower half of her body resembling a snakes, while her torso and everything else was a pale green skin, scales rippling in the light.

Her hair was swamp green and seemed to have a mind of it's own as she hissed loudly at the young male, her eyes narrowed dangerously.

"Do you have a death wisssh, boy?! How many timesss have I told you not to touch my armor!" She screeched at Cairo, who in turn whimpered and shrank away from her hulking form.

"I d-didn't do it this time!" He consulted with her, his eyes flicking away from her's when he tried to look up at her face. She sneered and came closer, sharp fangs glistening with venom as she hissed louder, her tongue dashing out of her mouth before returning as quickly as it came.

"You sssay that every time! What makesss you think I'll ssspare you again?!" Cairo opened his beak as he scrambled for words, coming up empty as he tried again.

"B-because you l-love me?" Faer grimanced and muttered "yikes" as Elaine straightened again, her hair fanning out around her head and creating the illusion of her growing in size.

"BECAUSSSE I LOVE YOU?! YOU THINK I'D LOVE A MISSSERABLE SSSAP LIKE YOU?!" Cario saw his mistake and hollered in fear, turning around and trying to run away from the snake's wrath. Faer caught his eye and smiled at him when he ran past, rolling her eyes as Elaine's tail whipped past and dragged him back in, the wind from the movement ruffling the flame elemental's hair.

"I'M SORRY I'M SORRY DON'T KILL ME PLEASE! FAER HELP!" Elaine laughed wildly at his attempted plea for help, casting a cold gaze over at the guard to warn her off. Faer lifted a hand and waved it away, shaking her head at the monster to grant permission.

"You're in for it now, beak brain." Elaine said with a sibilant hiss, a crazed grin curling at the corners of her mouth. Faer laughed as she watched something flow evenly down the griffin's armor on the inside of his leg, dripping onto the carpet that he was suspended above, the snake's tail wrapped around his waist.

"What the- Did you jussst pee?!" Cario was speechless as he stared at her in horror, his face heating up and turning the white feathers on his face pink. Faer fell over cackling as Elaine dropped him, protesting wildly in disgust and going back to her normal height, slithering to another room and trying frantically to wipe the liquid that had leaked onto her scales.

Cario fell to the ground on his side without a sound, curling up into a fetal position, his armor restricting him from pulling his knees fully to his chest. He didn't move but looked over as boots stomped across the carpet, staring up at a mishevious grin that was on the fire monster's face.

"That isn't very nice, mixing up her armor like that. You know how OCD she is." Cario was absent minded as he processed the other guard's words, his expression changing into a resented frown.

"You.."

"And why, oh WHY would you leave a note saying you did it?!" Faer tilted her head and smiled innocently, her hands on her knee pads as she bent over to talk to the hybrid. He continued to stare at her in shock and anger, looking more confused then anything as she straightened and stepped over him, heading to the back room where Elaine had disappeared into.

"Elaine, sweetie, are you okay?" Faer asked in a sympathetic tone, knowing how easy it was to upset the blacksmith. She heard muttering and the scrape of cloth against scales to her left and turned her gaze in that direction, spotting Elaine hunched next to a fireplace with raging flames barely contained within its stone grasp.

"He peed on me. Peed! The bessst he could have done was at leassst wait till I beat him firssst!" Faer manuevered around an anvil and table covered in smithing tools, eyeing a large hammer made of steel, its metal head rusted and beaten from years of use.

"Elaine, your okay now, right?" Elaine looked up and hissed, her eyes flashing in the fire's light. The rest of her body was covered in shadow, concealing her front and features of her face.

"What'sss it to you?" Faer set her hip to one side and put a hand on it, the opposite hanging at her other side.

"I'm your friend. I think that I should at least know." Elaine hissed again and Faer was able to make out her tongue slithering out of her mouth again, scenting the air and trying to pick up on Faer's scent.

Elaine had a way of knowing when a monster is lying, able to catch hints of sweat or the stench of body odor that came with a liar, often too nervous and afraid of Elaine to get away with it.

"I'm fine. Asss you might be able to tell." She replied shortly, turning her attention back to where she was indeed scrubbing at her scales.

Faer rolled her eyes at the woman's hostile retorts, knowing that it was an act put up by the snake only when she was upset. She stepped forward and put a hand on her shoulder.

"So you're pretty cool with it now?"

"I wouldn't put it like that." Faer gave a breathy laugh, understanding how she felt.

"How would you react if I told you I did it then made it look like Cario do it?" The fire monster could feel the muscles under Elaine's scales clench, her hand stilling in mid-swipe across her tail.

"I would asssk if you were pulling my tail." Faer pulled a puzzled look and looked at her free hand, shaking her head in mock confusion.

"Well, I don't think I am. Am I stepping on it?" Elaine sighed curtly as Faer lifted her boots one at a time, exaggerating her movement when she saw a smile pull at the snake's mouth.

"You really did it, huh?" Faer stopped and nodded, fighting off a chill that ran up her spine at the sound of Elaine's voice, a low whisper that had enough edge to slice through metal.

"Yeeeeeeeesssssss?"

"Faer?"

"Yes, Elaine?"

"Get out."

"Okay, Elaine."
