Chapter 9: Shadow Play
(Monkie Kid Season 3 is out and it changes A LOT! So, it's time to consider this an AU!)
Red Son...couldn't exactly stop thinking about what had happened back at his and Mei's last 'lesson'. Mei had told him the story of the Moon Goddess and how she had lost her true love.
Love. His only exposure to romantic love was his parents, who loved each other with all their hearts. He remembered as a child, he always wanted to know what it was like. Have his own 'princess'.
Was that what was going on-
"NO. NO." Red Son said, his hair bursting into flames. "I am NOT in love with anyone! Especially not Mei! We are JUST friends...and even friends sounds weird!"
He sighed before grabbing the new phone Mei got for him and checked for one of her daily messages. Daily, she had sent him messages. Even if it was a simple compliment or 'good morning'. She often tried her best not to 'spam' him.
But once he did, there was none.
Red Son looked at the time. It was afternoon. He narrowed his eyes a bit, his brilliant mind putting something together. Something was wrong.
He then quickly tracked down her phone, tracking it to...an old theater. He tilted his head before humming. "She'd be at a movie theater. Not an old style theater...no matter."
Red Son teleported into his car, revving it up and driving off into the city. Flames spewed out from the thrusters of his car. He drifted alongside the road before he made it to the theater.
He teleported inside, since the theater was closed. He took out his phone again, continuing to track Mei. Then? He found her...or what he thought was.
Her phone was left on one of the bleachers. There was no way she would leave it behind.
"Mei?!" Red Son called out. "Is this another trick of yours? If so, it is incredibly...impressive. You left behind your phone."
No response. But...the stage the bleachers were surrounding suddenly was lit in purple light. Red Son turned around and his eyes widened a bit when he saw...shadows. This must've been a shadow play...but there weren't any puppets. They were ACTUAL shadows.
The shadows were of...The Monkey King and The Demon Bull King. His father.
Red Son backed up, seeming confused...before a voice began to speak.
"Sun Wukong. The Great Sage Equal to Heaven. He is seen as a hero to all of China, and possibly the world from all the demons he banishes...and murders." The voice said. "What few know is that The Monkey King once, was a demon himself. He had befriended MULTIPLE demon kings, who had become his sworn brothers and sister."
The shadows switched around, with Wukong and DBK colliding their hands and smirking at each other while other demons faced them. The shadows then switched around again, showing DBK with an axe and Wukong with his staff.
"Together, the brothers Sun Wukong and Niu Mowang were unbeatable. Niu Mowang even dubbed himself 'The Great Sage Who Pacifies Heaven' to honor his brother's title." The voice then chuckled. "But like all Wukong came across...this story would end in tragedy."
It then showed...Wukong and...HIM. Red Son, or Red Boy. When he was a child. The two fought with their powers and weapons, the shadows moving as accurately and fluently as actual people.
"While Sun Wukong was trapped by The Buddha for 500 years, the Demon Bull King married Princess Iron Fan and had a child. A young boy blessed with amazing powers. They named him Red Boy."
The shadow of Red Boy defeated Wukong, who flew off the stage and then came back...with HER. Guanyin.
Guanyin's shadow lifted her hand, and Red Boy was suddenly frozen. And shadows of five rings attached themselves to Red Boy's body.
Red Son couldn't move as he watched, remembering the pain and suffering he felt at that very moment. How much he had cried out for Guanyin to stop.
But she didn't.
"The young Red Boy became too arrogant, and kidnapped Wukong's master to serve him to his father. But as punishment? Red Boy was imprisoned by the Bodhisattva, Guanyin. Forced to become her slave."
Then, the shadows disappeared, and the purple light went away.
Red Son breathed heavily before he gritted his teeth and ignited his fists in flames. "WHERE ARE YOU, DEMON!?!"
Then? HE hopped onto the stage. A monkey demon, with six ears. Three on each side of his head. He had fur black as smoke, blood red shading across his purple eyes. He wore a long red cape, and brown and black gi, with a yellow sash around it. And finally, he carried a black and purple staff with spikes surrounding each end.
The Six Eared Macaque.
Red Son growled and launched two fireballs at Macaque, who deflected them both into the ceiling. Macaque then cackled. "What? No encore, Red Boy?"
"WHERE'S MEI, YOU SIX EARED FREAK?!?!" Red Son boomed, teleporting onto stage and punching at Macaque, who just caught both his fists, letting go of his staff in the process.
Macaque smirked, his purple eyes glowing brighter. "Dang, you really DO care about her." He clicked his tongue. "That's why I'm winning right now, kid."
He then shoved Red Son, and spun around, kicking Red Son in the cheek and sending him rolling onto the stage. Red Son got back up, shooting out a beam of fire at the Six Eared Macaque.
Macaque just suddenly merged with the floor and appeared again through Red Son's shadow. He popped back out, punching Red Son to the wall.
"You should see this by now, Red Boy!" Macaque said, leaning against the wall. "I'm more powerful than you...and your little Mei friend doesn't care about you, or at least...she shouldn't. You have no use to her, and she has no use to you. Unless either of you have a use? You're worthless to each other...Mei's gonna abandon you, kid. Sooner or later."
Red Son forced himself to get back up, growling. "Y...You don't know that, you d-damn ape..."
Macaque smirked. "Don't I?" He then appeared right beside Red Son, leaning on the wall he was punched too. "I know quite a lot about being abandoned by the ones who saw use in me, y'know." He smirked. "You're better fighting for yourself."
Red Son punched at Macaque, who disappeared again.
"Believe me. You are." Macaque said. "EVERYONE is fighting for themselves."
"Including you?" Red Son snarled, lighting both of his hands in flames. He didn't believe Macaque, not for a second. He knew his kind. Just trying to manipulate.
Macaque appeared behind him, his staff in hand. It seemed he saw his tricks weren't going to work. "ESPECIALLY ME..."
The Six Eared Macaque then swung his staff, knocking the child of DBK out cold. He chuckled before taking out a lantern of some kind.
A red orb suddenly took Red Son's place, and was absorbed into the lantern, only leaving Red Son's shadow behind.
Macaque chuckled. "You should've believed me, Red Boy. If you did? Maybe you would've won just now."
