Welcome Home

[Written previous to the season premiere of Season 8]

The sun began to rise on the city, it almost felt normal, almost.

"He can't... he can't be going" Thea looked at Caitlin with every gleam of hope she had, but the doctor could only lower her head.

Oliver Jonas Queen laid practically lifeless in STAR labs, his friends and most of his family surrounding him. The power he had sucked up in order to stop crisis was draining his life away slowly.

Caitlin and Alex had been keeping him alive, hoping that Felicity and her newborn daughter Mia would make it to say goodbye, but Caitlin could see Oliver was hurting.

"It's time" Barry said, turning to Caitlin.

"Do we really get to make that decision?" Cisco asked.

"Thea is his next of kin since Felicity isn't here" Caitlin looked at her.

Thea's eyes began to water again, "I'm not supposed to be the one to call this shot, I always thought... I always thought he'd outlive me"

"Just... think about what he would want" Sara wrapped her arms around Thea, comforting her as best as she could.

It was almost silent for another 5 minutes and than Thea looked at Caitlin and nodded slowly. Caitlin bowed her head one last time before moving her way to Oliver's side and began to cut life support.

"Goodbye... Ollie" Thea sobbed before rushing out of the room.

Roy placing a hand on the edge of Oliver's bed, "I'll take care of her, and your other girls" He smiled before walking out.

"We'll see you on the other side" Cisco nodded.

Most of the people who didn't know Oliver as much left with simple nods or a goodbye. Leaving Diggle, Barry, Kara, and Sara.

"It'll take a minute for him to finally let go, but I'd still hurry with your goodbyes" Caitlin said. Before she left, she looked at her patient and sighed. "Thank you for saving us, again"

The doctor rushed out, her eyes welling with tears.

"We started this" Sara said, standing beside her former lovers bed, sniffling a little. "All those years ago, my god we could've never imagined it would turn out like this"

"A man on a mission to save his city, saves the world instead" Diggle chuckled, sniffling a little as well.

"Not just the world, an entire multi-verse" Kara smiled, "They'll know his name on Earth-38, believe me"

"Oliver Queen, the mortal who was to stubborn to die" Sara laughed.

"That sounds about right" Barry smiled. Everyone got sad as the heart monitor began to fade in and out.

"He's going now" Diggle sighed.

"God Ollie" Sara began to cry, "You had to be the hero"

A small mumble came from the slowly dying archer. "Take... care" He managed to speak up.

"We will" Barry said, "We'll take care of Felicity, Mia, William, we'll make sure they're forever safe"

"The same way you've made sure we were all safe" Kara smiled, her eyes were as watery as Sara's now.

"Your... selves" Oliver choked out and finally, the line went flat.

"I promise Ollie" Sara whispered, kissing his forehead.

"You have been the sun of our lives" Kara spoke up, placing her hand on Oliver's, reciting the Kryptonian payer for the dead. "Our prayers will be the sun that lights your way on the journey home. We will remember you in every dawn. And await the night we join you in the sky. Rao's will be done."

"Til we meet again, Oliver"

"Til we meet again"

The cold hard floor began turning into what felt like a velvet carpet. The darkness began emitting a golden glow, and the quietness began to fill with chatter and whispers.

"Ollie~" The familiar voice was the first to speak clearly.

Oliver's eyes opened and the first thing he saw was the dirty blonde hair of the woman he loved all those years ago. "Laurel"

"Hi" Laurel smiled, "Welcome home"

Oliver began sitting up, sure enough he was in the Queen Mansion, his home, where he grew up, where he learned. "Is this... is this the afterlife?"

"Something like that" Laurel said, "Come on, you're late to your own party"

Laurel guided Oliver to the living room which was turned into a dance floor. The room was packed with people he recognized and people whom he could guess was.

The auburn hair of Nora Allen, the smile of Anne, the chuckle of Malcolm, and the soft voice of Samantha. "Hello again, Oliver"

"Welcome home, my sweet boy" Moira stepped out. "You finally get to rest"

The land of the living was far more gloomy than the embrace of death. Felicity arrived with a baby girl in her arms, her makeup and hair a mess. "Thea! Where is..." Felicity stopped when she saw her sister-in-law sobbing against Roy. "No..."

"He was in to much pain" Roy sighed. "We had to call it"

"Felicity" Barry walked in, "Come on"

"Oh god" Felicity collapsed, Barry sped and caught her, also taking Mia out of her arms as Roy and Thea went to comfort the new widow.

Mia began crying, sensing a new person holding her. "Oh Mia" Barry coo'd. "Hey now. I'm your Uncle Barry, I've known your father for years now. He's been the best friend and teacher I've had. I know you'll miss him, but your father's to stubborn to rest, he'll watch over you until he greets you at the pearly gates"

The sun rose over the city, and the clouds began to roll in, and the rain began to pour. Every civilian in North America knew what was coming.

The Green Arrow, Oliver Queen, dead in Crisis

Iris announced to the world Oliver was dead and within the hour, dozens of people gathered at city halls or parks with dozens of flowers and cards.

In a day the president made an official announcement.

"Oliver Jonas Queen was born a civilian, her rose to a hero, and now he is a Legend. He deserves a memorial for a soldier, but he deserves a funeral with his family. To his family, we promise you, Oliver's death will not be in vein, for we will thrive in this world that he's saved for us"

And the president stayed true to her word.

Kate Kane bought back the Queen Manor and there is where they laid Oliver Queen to rest. As the story goes, the neighbours saw doppelgängers and aliens, enemies and allies standing before his headstone. But they kept silent, knowing how many souls he touched.

And just like that... Oliver Queen was but a memory.

Mia sat down in front of the aging stone. "Hi dad" She smiled, "I just got back from Central city. Nora and Oliver just graduated, god, they are so much like uncle Barry. You'd be so proud of us, we've began to establish something, a team, at the moment we're going as the Legion of Superheroes, but the president has called us... Queens Soldiers"

"Mia! Dinner!" Felicity called out.

"Coming!" Mia called back, beginning to stand up. "Thank you for... everything dad"
