Chapter 26: The Boiling Point
Alex felt as if literal hours had passed by.
Time mentally for him had slowed down as he heard the results.
"Y-Your joking right? This has to be a joke." He said.
Weiss sighed and simply shook her head no. "What would I gain from lying? Now listen. You two are family but I don't know by how much. You two could either be blood siblings, step siblings, or cousins. For a definitive answer we’re gonna also need Akari’s blood. If she's confirmed as a perfect parent match for you two, then it's all but confirmed that you two are brother and sister." She said.
Alex took her words into account and just kept quiet.
It still felt like a fever dream.
He potentially could have an older sister that he never knew existed still alive.
That just left Alex even more confused.
Why the hell did Akari keep this secret even well before the massacre of the slums.
It was just too much for him to think off.
All he knew for sure was that once he got Akari's blood test done, then would he get the true, definitive answer.
After arranging another appointment with Weiss the next day at noon again, he left the room and eventually left the hospital.
'Okay Alex calm down. Even though that cloaked girl's been confirmed as a relative that still doesn't mean she's your literal blood sister. For all I know she could easily also be a step sister or a cousin.' Thought Alex.
Yet the more he thought of it the more it became apparent that it most likely was his sister.
After all why would Akari hide the fact that he had a long lost cousin or step sibling? It didn't make any sense.
Hiding a potential blood sibling did make sense but that still left Alex wondering why she hid that fact for so long.
Right now however Alex needed to focus on a way to get a vial of Akari's blood to test without her getting suspicious.
'Crap. How do I get my mom's blood? I mean she isn't afraid of needles like I am so that good and all but she wouldn't just let me randomly take her blood for no reason. I gotta make one up to convince her.' He thought to himself as he continued to walk back to his apartment complex.
As he entered the plane her saw Akari in the kitchen probably preparing for dinner and he also saw her kitsune guardian Yae Sakura sitting on the couch watching tv.
Even with Yae around Alex felt this was his only chance to get the blood.
After taking a deep breathe, he transmitted a syringe and a vial and walked to Akari.
"Hey mom. Got a sec?" He asked.
Akari smiled and immediately faced him. "Sure Alex what is it................."
Akari has trailed off at the end as she saw the syringe and vial in his hand.
Alex noticed her reaction and immediately tried to calm the situation down.
"H-Hold on I can explain. You see, I was hanging out with Weiss earlier today and she said that she'd like to check your blood if you were doing okay. So I figured I'd help her out and get some of your blood. P-Please Weiss just wants to make sure your safe." He said hoping that excuse could convince her.
Thankfully it did as Akari spoke. "W-Well tell Weiss that I'm perfectly fine. As the mother of the world and a book holder I a-always know when I'm okay." She said trying to get Alex to not go through with it.
Yae from the couch however immediately debunked that statement.
"Stop lying Lady Akari. When we were together for those 6 years you got sick 5 times. And just 2 weeks ago you caught the flu." She said nonchalantly.
"Y-Yae! Your supposed to be on my side!" Childishly shouted Akari back at her.
"Mom calm down. It's just an injection to draw blood." He said as he tried to get the needled closer only for Akari to immediately back away.
"G-Get that away from me!" She shouted as Alex was confused.
"I thought, you weren't afraid of needles." He said.
"I-I'm not! I just feel like this is to sudden! Y-Ya kno-OW!"
Akari suddenly yelped in pain as Yae with her sharp fox teeth bit and pierced Akari's arm.
When she pulled away she had her blood dripping from her fangs as she grabbed the vial from Alex's hand and let a couple of drops of Akari's blood drip from her fangs onto the vial.
Eventually the vial was full as Yae cleaned the blood off her fangs and put a bandage on Akari's arm.
"1. Stop lying Lady Akari you are afraid of needles. 2. Your welcome Alex." Was all Yae said during the whole oredeal as she walked Akari to her room to rest.
After getting over the sudden act Yae had done, Alex immediately placed the vial of Akari's blood into a safe place in his room as he got ready for the next day as he eventually slept.
[The Next Day: 12 Noon]
Just like yesterday Alex had immediately went over to the hospital once it was 12 noon.
After signing into the receptionist desk and making his way up the elevator, he again walked down the hall and into Weiss' office where he saw the Dutch nurse smile and waving at him again.
"I assume you got Akari's blood successfully?" She asked.
Alex pulled out the vial of her blood with a nod. "May have had some help but yeah. This is it."
Weiss took the vial from him. "Well go ahead and watch TV. This hopefully won't take as long as yesterday." She said.
Alex nodded and went to watch television again.
Weiss went back to the dark room where once again Dekota was there as well. “Ready?” Weiss asked.
“Yep” Dakota says back as they insert the vial back into the machine.
The machine roared back to life as it gathered every piece of data as up came the same data as befotr but specialized to Akari.
“So she’s low on Iron.” Weiss said looking at at screen.
“Better give her something.” Dekota replied.
“Ja Ja. I will. Now we wait for the strands to be found.” Said Weiss.
They waited by playing a quick game of Tic Tac Toe where they tied before the machine had quieted down
“Let’s see.” Weiss said pulling up the genes of Akari, Alex, and the cloaked girl.
“And?” Said Dekota waiting for her to say the results.
“It says they match enough to be related with each other by mother and father.” She said. "Go ahead and tell Alex to come in here." Said Weiss.
Dekota nodded and left to brought to bring Alex into the room.
Eventually Alex was brought into the room as he saw Weiss sitting down with the images of the results next to her.
"Listen I'm just gonna cut straight to the chase. Looking through Akari's genes as well as yours and the girl's, they match enough. It's official. Your and that girl are indeed blood siblings." She said.
Alex kept quiet and had nothing to say.
He honestly should've expected this after yesterday yet he had still hoped that it wasn't gonna be the case.
After taking a few minutes to take this all in, he thanked Weiss and shook her hand.
He asked for official papers of all the blood test results.
Weiss was confused at first but eventually agreed giving him the papers of yesterday and today's blood tests.
He then left the hospital and now had to prepare everything to a talk.
When he made it back to the apartment, he saw he was home alone so he folded the papers into his pocket and then went into Akari's room and grabbed the old photograph and also placed it into his pocket.
With that, he went and sat on the couch and watched tv until she had arrived.
Eventually Akari did arrive as she saw Alex on the couch.
"Oh hey Alex. Back from your errand already?" She said.
Alex nodded and then spoke. "Hey mom. Can we sit at the kitchen table? I wanna have a talk." He said.
Akari smiled and agreed to it as both walked over and sat at the table across from each other.
"Mom. Are you hiding anything from me?" Immediately asked Alex.
Akari was caught off guard at this sudden start but immediately shrugged it off.
"Of course not. I had already explained every single thing that happened to me during this 6 yea-." She was saying until Alex interrupted her.
"I'm not talking about those 6 years apart. I'm referring to before that." He said.
"Before? You mean the slums? Oh come on Alex. You and I know about everything that happened in the slums." She said still keeping a lighthearted tone.
Alex though wasn't gonna let this slide.
"Mom. Be honest with me. Are you hiding anything from me?" He said.
"I already said I'm not. Why would you think I-."
Akari was interrupted again as Alex pulled out the old photograph from his pocket and placed it onto the table.
Akari saw it and immediately gasped in shock.
"H-How did you!? Wait! You snooped around my room!?" She snapped
"That isn't the point mom!" Said Alex shouting back. "Explain this to me. I know you. You always place every single photo you take into an album. No way in hell you just happened to forget this one photo. There's a reason behind this. Tell me." He said.
Akari immediately knew she had to come up with an excuse.
"T-That was a young girl I would babysit often in the slums! S-She knew about your upcoming birth and really w-wanted to be there. I hid it so y-you wouldn't get the wrong idea." She said stammering and sputtering through her explanation.
Alex knew she would find a way to lie about the photograph. Now it was time to provide the most authentic proof.
Alex took out the offical blood tests results and placed them on the table for Akari to see.
Her face paled when she realized what they meant.
"Mom. For the past few days I had been harrassed by a girl in a cloak. She treated me as if I was a close relative so after getting her and my blood tested, the results showed that we were indeed family." He said pointing to yesterday's results.
"However what exactly the relation was hadn't been revealed yet. That lears us to today." He said.
He pointed to the results of today's test.
"The results showed that our genes had match up enough with yours. It confirmed that me and this girl, are blood siblings." He said and then pointed at the young girl in the photograph.
"This isn't some random kid mom. She's my big sister. For all of my thirteen years of existence, I never fucking knew I had an older sibling. And even after we reunited, you still didn't tell me shit!" He said.
"Alex please calm dow-."
Alex stopped her from speaking again.
"Mom! If I had known I had an older sister, I could've been living my first few weeks after the massacre with her and not fucking be homeless!" He said.
Akari tried her absolute best to calm Alex down to explain the situation but Alex just wouldn't let her.
It then let to a shocking outcome.
Something neither person would think happen.
Akari had slapped Alex on the cheek.
Alex took it and immediately stopped talking with a shocked face, placing a hand on where he was it.
He then saw Akari nearly broken down into tears looking at it.
"Just shut up. You don't understand the circumstances!" She shouted at him as she took the photograph and ran to her room, locking the door.
Alex just stood there and realized she had just made her mom not only upset, but also hit him.
He cursed himself for being so stupid.
Alex then looked at his phone and saw the random number that was the cloaked girl.
As he looked at the number for a bit, he called her.
Akari was right.
He didn't know the circumstances that caused her to hide all this information.
Now, he was gonna understand those circumstances.
This time, he was the one who was gonna arrange the meeting.
