Chapter 12

A/N: Hey guys I'm having a big Writer's block at the moment. Feel free to throw in some ideas. I apologise if this isn't the best chapter - though it is a long chapter. Hope you guys can bear with me as I have exams soon and won't be watching any Cobra Kai until they are over...

The mission today was to befriend the LaRusso girl who goes to West Valley. (Y/N) observed all her classes, hoping to find the girl if she could. Moon was friends with her, meaning she'd find LaRusso sitting with her. Her first instinct was to look for Moon but (Y/N) took a moment to herself as she heard her teacher call out that very name.

"LaRusso, you're with (Y/N)" their teacher announced while marking papers and assigning cover sheets for their assessment.

Luckily, (Y/N) didn't have to waste her time looking around. She was right here. She had dark brown hair and glistening blue eyes - a unique combination. She wore cute blue dresses and black leather shoes, almost dressed like she was approachable. The only catch was this girl was popular. (Y/N) expected her to be mean and cold towards her, judging by the types of people she sits with.

"I'm Samantha. Sam for short... LaRusso's just my last name" she giggled, referring to the teacher announcing her name.

"(Y/N)"

In an attempt to get closer to Sam, (Y/N) was rehearsing what she was going to say in her mind until Sam had caught her by surprise. As the girls read the criteria for their assignment, Sam wrote down her email and phone number in advance.

"We should get this done as soon as we can" she suggested. "Why don't you come over after school and we can get started at mine?"

Stunned, (Y/N) smirked and threw her a thumbs up, fully agreeing to their plan. Surprised she didn't have to put much effort in, she spaced out during the rest of the period, thinking of the next move. Somehow, she had to bring up Terry Silver when speaking to her dad. As the bell repeatedly indicated the end of the period, students made their way out of class.

"I'll see you this afternoon, Sam" (Y/N) smiled, waving at her new class friend she'd just made.

As Miguel passed by, he acknowledged (Y/N)'s presence... but not so much Sam's. She quickly figured there was history between the two, ultimately deciding not to pry as it was none of her business. A moment later, Luna popped up, dressed in a rainbow-coloured jumpsuit with neon green crocs, her hair in grunge buns with curtain bangs hanging from the sides. She was indicating towards their usual hangout as she flashed a pair of keys in front of (Y/N)'s face, leading the way for her to follow.

"That's LaRusso. How did you get to her so fast?" Luna asked, quizzically. "She's popular"

"I found out she was your cousin's friend too" (Y/N) blurted, setting her bag down next to the chairs. "I have to talk to her dad. Headed to Sam's this afternoon"

Luna took (Y/N)'s house keys from her bag, putting them into her own. She set her things aside as the girls continued their usual conversation, catching up like they normally would.

---

That afternoon, Sam and (Y/N) headed over to the LaRusso's house. These people were definitely loaded. A shocked (Y/N) let herself out of the car, following Sam inside. Upon entering, the entire family had greeted her. Sure, it was a little bit intimidating but everyone was nice. Mrs LaRusso, her brother, Anthony LaRusso. Cousin Louie. Lucille. (Y/N) hadn't seen such a big family all living together for as long as she could remember. She greeted each of the family members respectfully, curious as she wasn't able to find her dad.

"Where's Mr LaRusso?" (Y/N) questioned, hopefully being able to find him.

"He'll be home a little bit late. He's at the car dealership" Sam replied, carrying her bag upstairs in between her arms.

---

The duo productively managed to complete their first few goals of the assignment they had set in class. Although (Y/N) wasn't particularly fond of Sam and the idea behind her being popular, she didn't mind working with her. As long as the two chatted about their work, everything else didn't matter.

"I'm home!"

A deep grown voice announced below. Sam put her books and pens away, encouraging (Y/N) to follow her. It was most likely her dad - (Y/N) had assumed beforehand, given he was the only member not home at the time she arrived. She followed Sam downstairs in order to greet him.

"Mr LaRussso" (Y/N) acknowledged, holding out a hand for him to shake. "(Y/N). Sam's classmate"

"Daniel LaRusso. Pleasure to meet you."

"Quick (Y/N) bring up karate... something on Terry" she thought to herself.

After a moment, she brought herself back to reality, realising she was still shaking Daniel's hand. She quickly yanked her hand away, awkwardly placing that same hand back into her pocket.

"Why don't you uh... stick around for dinner?" he offered.

"Perfect. I can bring up karate at some point"

---

While sticking around for dinner, (Y/N) was given a tour of the house by Sam and Daniel, each showing her the different parts of the house. They were definitely rich. Towards the end, the three made it to a mini dojo Daniel keeps. (Y/N) gasped in shock, taking a good look around the room. She was semi-interested in karate but more interested in seeking clues about Terry.

There were medals, newspaper articles and trophies, all neatly framed and hung up on a show case.

"You were the All-Valley champion in the 1980s" (Y/N) spoke, pointing to an article. "Who was your coach?"

"Mr Miyagi" Daniel proudly replied, pointing to a picture who he had framed up on his wall.

"Was there anyone else apart from Mr Miyagi?" she poked, asking another question in hopes to get her answer.

Daniel was silent for a moment as subconsciously did have another coach but never spoke of. It was important that he did, however. It would help (Y/N) significantly. She attempted to reframe the question so he would get into detail about Terry Silver. Thinking back, she attempted to remember students that had trained under Terry's supervision. All the files and lists she saw in the room when she came face to face with Xander had travelled through her mind like clouds fogging buildings. She couldn't remember for the hell of it.

Using the same strategy Luna had in place, (Y/N) made multiple mental notes in her mind, sifting for answers. She asked herself another set of questions until she could sift out the names which she didn't care too much about. Her mind took her back, retracing her steps the night she came face to face with Terry's son.

"Mr LaRusso..." she mumbled, pointing to the article he had framed as he gave her his undivided attention. "What year did you win the All Valley over there?"

"1984 and I think also 1985... or 1986. I was a star" he chuckled, pointing over to his trophy.

"I-I'm doing some research to get a friend into karate. She's looking for a coach." she lied, hoping they bought it. "Who were some of the finalists you competed with and who were they coached by?"

"Oh... that's why you're asking. Tell your friend to come on over" he reassuringly smiled, dodging her question.

(Y/N) mentally facepalmed until she could think of a better way for him to give her some answers. Her secret detective work was proving to be a lot more complicated than she had imagined.

"I still want to know who you competed with because... I want to know what it takes to win. What kind of opponents would I be competing with? What kind of coaches are there?" she asked, re-framing the question.

"I'm glad you asked. I competed with someone named Johnny Lawrence..." he admitted, uncomfortably. "And my other opponent was Mike Barnes"

Secretly, (Y/N) knew Johnny and about Cobra Kai but kept her mouth shut. There was no way she was going to bring up unnecessary details.

"They had some very tough coaches. I've trained with one before. He's not really the best coach since he plays dirty" Daniel responded, eventually revealing the name. "His name was Terry Silver"

Intrigued, (Y/N) proceeded to ask another question until Amanda had interrupted their conversation for dinner. Daniel followed as (Y/N) mentally cursed herself. How was she going to get another chance to talk to him? She caught up to him, proceeding to ask another question before the topic was changed.

"Mr LaRusso, what type of a coach was he?" (Y/N) asked.

He turned to look her in the eye, noticing the expression on her face. She looked rather keen to know but also seemed desperate to know. He wasn't sure why, nor could she reveal why.

"Oh... He was rich, successful. But also a bully. He used money to get his way around things, ran a business illegally--" he explained, concluding the topic. "I don't want to get into too much detail. Why do you ask?"

A panicked (Y/N) looked Daniel right in the eye. She was afraid that he would see right through her, knowing what was happening, well before she could say anything.

"Do you have a Terry Silver in your life?" he asked.

"y-yessss...." she slowly nodded, deciding it was the perfect excuse. "My coach is very similar to him"

"Why don't you join Miyagi-Do?" he offered. "You don't need to put yourself through that"

For a moment, she'd thought about it. Joining Miyagi-Do would be the biggest mistake as she could lose her friendship with Cobra Kai. She wasn't going to give Daniel a proper answer yet, but she was definitely going to weigh her options.
