Chapter 1
Loitering around the hallways, (Y/N) explored the new school she had just moved in to before it was time to call it a day. West Valley High. Not very prestigious like her old school, which gave her all the more reason to like it. She anticipated for the bell to ring. Known as the quiet new girl, she avoided large crowds, ate her lunch outside the library and finished her work at school so she wouldn't stress out about it at home.
Her focus was daring. In saying that, every advantage comes with a range of consequences. And nothing was normal about (Y/N). Absolutely nothing. The mere truth is, she lives a double life.
During the day, she considers herself a regular high-schooler, a local down the street, friendly to her neighbours, room mates and co-workers. (Y/N) had her own close friends, a tight knit group that she would only socialise with after school. And her boyfriend who she made time for every now and then.
All, just to survive and keep a low profile.
After school, (Y/N) made it to the dojo. Which wasn't really a dojo or a properly functioning gym. She managed to find the room herself, inventing it into a decently functioning space for herself to work out in. She had purchased some equipment with the money she earned from her part time job, working part-time at a book store and sometimes at a coffee shop, just to cover shifts for people who couldn't make it.
The room had a small punching bag, practically hanging by a thread due to her kicks and a dummy she'd use to kick and punch. It helped control her anger, if anything. Next to it, she installed a mini booth on wheels with a chair and computer for her to work on.
The fights. The training. The late night hours she'd spend on her computer configuring data and various locations. It was all part of her quest. At times, she would go out at night, disguised behind a mask, practising climbing buildings. Martial arts isn't enough to achieve her main goal. One could call her a vigilante. A criminal. Or a badass.
In conclusion, the only thing which was important to her - in this very present moment was her quest. It was the only way.
It wasn't very long when her father was framed and arrested for being under the influence of a toxic and corrupt billionaire. He was her inspiration. After her mother passed away, it was the two of them against the world. Both of them found comfort in one another, thus making a solid team. Her father worked undercover most nights, serving the army and representing his country.
He would often trick and manipulate his opponents until he could defeat them fair and square. One night, cops busted into their home, arresting her father as they sealed the cuffs around his wrists as he was dragged off the sofa. With the TV playing in the background, he had left over food in front of him, enjoying the little quiet time he had alone - well before the cops made their entrance.
(Y/N) was very young and confused at the time. But she was smart enough to comprehend her father was arrested for something he didn't do.
"(Y/N)... go. Go exactly where I told you to if I'm ever in trouble."
And those were his last words. Something clicked in her head. She simply made a run for it.
Since that day, she hadn't seen or heard from her father ever again.
She was a teenager. Nothing could have prepared her enough to witness what had happened that fateful night. The guilt consumed her, knowing she could have done something to help her father. And since then, it changed her. For good.
"PING!"
Her phone chimed as she headed over to check the notifications popping repeatedly. (Y/N) hadn't made many friends, given it was her first day at her new school. That same night, the kids threw a party. According to her, they would throw a party for any occasion. Her boyfriend, none other than Xander Stone had texted her the details about the party. She knew she couldn't deny.
Her boyfriend. Xander Stone. All Valley Karate Tournament Championship winner in 2017. Topanga Karate. It took a while to get used to him, given he was popular at one point of time and very much liked by girls. But as time went on, he was slowly forgotten by most people. And he was perfectly content with that. He only had eyes for (Y/N).
"Come on babe, it'll be fun" he exclaimed, sending a few emojis to accompany his text.
The only decision she was left with was to decide to go... or not. Given she started school late, (Y/N) was perfectly legal to drink. A party without alcohol did not count as a party for her. Assuming there were going to be drinks, she replied, taking her own sweet time, indicating she was ready to go.
A few minutes later, she stepped out, walking on the street as she normally would. Her black denim jacket protected her from the cold wind, whistling past her ear and blowing her hair back into her face. She forcefully tied it back, crossing her arms with her phone clutched to her hand.
Xander pulled up, ready to take her. He was one of the kindest people and she appreciated it all the more. As she took a seat, they exchanged their greetings and kisses, heading directly for the party.
