Katherine awoke in darkness. Okay, that sounds dramatic. Kat woke up, and it was pitch black. Yeah, that works. Anyway.
She was asleep at one point, so comfortable, warm, floating in nothing. Then, bam, she felt an ice cold sting, and she managed to open her eyes.
It was a little cold, and a blue color so dark it looked almost black. Kat turned her head, but it responded slowly.
Must be because I just woke up, she thought. I'm probably just tired.
Kat took a deep breath and raised her hand to feel her head, but she stopped immediately. Her hand responded slowly as well. Okay, that's weird. She finished lifting her hand and felt her head. Her hand... almost felt... flat. No, that's not possible.
She took another breath, and looked up. It was lighter above her, about 20 feet up. She needed to get there. But how?
On instinct, Katherine jumped up. When she was at her highest peak, she started to go up slowly. She screamed, but it sounded distant. Wait, that's it! She was underwater. But how? She's been breathing down here for at least 2 minutes.
The light was getting closer. Now, she didn't want to breathe underwater. It freaked her out too much. 8 feet to the surface. 7 feet. 6... 5... her lungs were starting to ache now... 4... 3... 2... So close...
She broke the surface with a gasp. The daylight was too much to take, she was almost glad that she started to sink. Blinking back dots, she started kicking upward. Kat could see a blue sky with some weird shaped clouds, and a sun. Moving her arms were pretty hard, but she managed to start swimming someway. About 10 minutes later, she made it to shore. She collapsed on the sand and closed her eyes. Almost instantly, she opened her eyes, because she noticed something. Well, two things.
One, she was a block. Kat looked at her reflection in the water and saw a person made of blocks. They had a purple sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black running shoes. Their brown hair (with purple, blue, and green highlights) only showed one purple eye. She couldn't believe that person was her. But she looked around her, and realized that she was the least weirdest thing around here.
Everything was a block. From the ground Kat was sitting on to the one hundred foot tall mountain on the peninsula to her right. In front of her to the right was a wide mountain range, and to her left was a giant plains biome. In front of her was a big forest. And everything was a three dimensional square. Not a circle or a sphere to be seen.
Kat got up and walked a few yards. No, she walked a few blocks. She could see the outline of the blocks, so thats how she would describe her distance. She knelt down and felt the sand. She tried to pick up some grains, but it wouldn't work. She didn't know if it was because the block was solid, or that she had no fingers. She punch her fist in the sand to see if it was solid. It wouldn't budge. She did it over and over. A few seconds later, the block somehow shrunk until it was only a few inches tall and wide. Then it started spinning slowly.
Kat was amazed. She picked up the small block. It seemed like magic that she could do that. She placed it back on the ground a little farther away from where it was before, and the block stopped spinning and started growing until it was a full-sized block.
This is insane, Kat thought.
She was in a world of blocks. She could pick them up and place them down. She was a block herself. But what now? Kat didn't know what to do. She looked up. The sun seemed to be setting soon. Kat figured she had a few hours until it was night. She didn't know how, but she knew that she needed to find a shelter before night.
Kat got a feeling like someone was pricking her forehead. Then it started feeling like she was having a brain freeze. But where did that night thing come from? She tried to remember.
Bad things happen at night. Katherine rubbed her head with her head. I learned that from...
The memory was gone. So was the pain. Kat was shivering. She needed to focus on more important things though.
Okay, so the sun sets in the west, which is to her left. So that means she is facing north. The sky started getting a pinkish orange glow.
Kat took a deep breath and headed toward the woods.

When she got there, Kat realized something. If she can destroy sand, could she destroy wood? maybe if she punched one of those trees, she could make wooden planks and build a little home.
She got to the first tree. Kat started punching the wood second from the ground. Wait, would the tree above her collapse? Too late, she broke the wood, and braced for impact. But, no. The tree still stood up, defying gravity, although half it's trunk was missing. One minute later, Kat was holding five pieces of wood. When she destroyed the second piece, it was sucked into the first piece, so she assumed it was stacking up. So, now what?
Kat wasn't sure how to make the wood into planks. She sat down and looked at the sun. A sliver of it was hidden by the horizon. She looked back it the oak wood, mentally praying it would magically change into planks. Then, something happened.
The block started to become a golden color. Kat dropped it in surprise. It stayed on the ground and a second later, the wood was a brighter brown color. It turned itself into planks.
Kat felt like she should be shocked, but she made a mental note to never be surprised again. This world was full of of them, and if she was gasping at everything, she would pass out.
She picked up the planks. It looked like a single piece, but somehow Kat knew that she had twenty pieces. Okay, so each wood block gives four planks. Makes sense.
After destroying a few more trees, Kat had 60 pieces of wood. That seemed good enough. Looking back at the sun, she saw that half of it was gone. She had about another hour to go. She picked up the wood and headed toward the plains. There was more space over there to build a house.
Kat got a little father into the plains. While she was walking she noticed something. About ten blocks in front of her was some kind of black and white animal. It was a cow. Okay, so this place has farm animals. Kat walked a little more, and discovered that she was right. Far off to her left was a herd of sheep. To her right was a pig and a few chickens. She felt a little hungry, but there was no way she would killl those animals with her fist. She kept walking.
The sun was setting. Most of it was gone, and the sky started to become purple. Kat needed to build, now.
She threw a block on the ground. The planks went into full size. Kat threw a few more down, until she had a 4 by 5 wall surrounding her only 1 block high. She destroyed the corners, knowing that she didn't need them. Then on top of those blocks, she added a layer. The sun was pretty much set, and the last light of day had gone. Quickly, Kat made a roof. She was in complete darkness, but at least she was safe. But she was scared.
The floor was dirt, but Kat wasn't picky. She leaned against the wall and slid down. She didn't know what was going on, and why she was here. But in the morning, she needed to explore. She was starving and tired right now, and she didn't want to go outside. She couldn't see anything, but she could tell that it was dangerous outside. As if on cue, she heard a growl, and a hiss, and her stomach dropped. But she was safe, for now. She had to explore though, to see what this world had for her. There couldn't just be trees, plains, water, and animals everywhere. There had to be something else. Or someone else.
For the first time, Kat realized that she couldn't be alone. She didn't know how big this world was, but she couldn't be the only person on it. She had to hope that there was a person out there that knew about this world. That is friendly, she might add.
She laid down. It wasn't very comfortable, but she was tired enough to sleep on anything. She closed her eyes, and managed to fall into a dreamless sleep.
But little did Kat know that she was being watched.

Dam I wrote this book a while ago. Had to go redo this to make sure it didn't suck. I think I'm good now.
