Chapter 26: Tension Or Bromance?

Haha that's just me having a little fun and building Kat's beginner house guy thing.

New character comin in. Yay.

I got nothing else to say. Banana.

We didn't get there before lunch.

The tour was going fine, again. Skye and Jon were good tour guides, as they actually knew where things were. Jake would sometimes grumble when they talked about a place, or what changed.

"Why are things changing?" I asked. "There seemed to be a lot. You talked about adding roads, destroying buildings..."

"The war." Jon said quietly. I noticed that he didn't talk a lot.

That doesn't really explain it, but I went with it.

"Better advance the city in case... anything happens." Skye said.

"Oh."

I didn't push.

All of a sudden, we heard a growl. We all looked around, expecting a zombie.

"My bad." Gordon rubbed his stomach. "I'm hungry."

Skye laughed. "You guys want something to eat?"

"Please." Abby nodded.

"There's a place farther down." Skye said. "A little off the inner city."

"What separates the inner city and the outer city?" I asked.

"A bridge." Jon said briefly.

"You'll see it." Skye promised. "Another reason is that the council and other important people live in the inner city."

"Cool." Okay, so they're separated, like rich and poor.

"They aren't like that." Jon said, reading my mind. How?

"Like what? Ohhh." Skye chuckled. "Nah, they aren't stuck up or anything. In fact, they wanted to live among people. But they are our best fighters, engineers, and leaders, so they are kept in the inner part."

"Ah." I nodded. Made sense.

"This it?" Abby asked. She pointed to a building on our left. It was birch planks with oak wood at corners. It had windows with potted plants in front of them, birch doors, and a sign that said Tommy's. For some reason, that seemed cliche and boring as if the person just put the easiest name down because they didn't bother (😏 yep).

"Uh huh." Jon nodded.

We all went inside. It had a tile floor, and black ceiling, with the walls wood. To the left were tables, and to the right were booths. Diagonally to the left was a walled off room, the kitchen.

"Hello!" A blonde, perky waitress said. "Welcome! Would you like a table or booth?"

"Booth." We all said.

"Okay, this way!" She walked off. We all followed.

As we headed toward a big booth in the back, we noticed a guy sitting by himself in a dark booth. He had brown hair, and blue eyes, except the left one was red with a black center. He wore jeans, a dark blue shirt, with medallions on the upper left region, and some kind of bullets were strapped on his shirt.

He looked at us at the corner of his eye as we walked past. Gordon cleared his throat at him, and the dude turned away.

"Creepy." Abby said. I shrugged.

"Right here!" The waitress said. "Menus on the table, I'll come back soon!" She walked away.

We sat down in the 3 sides booth. From left to right, it was me on the end, then Jake, Infinity, Abby, Gordon, Skye, and Jon on the other end.

We all looked at the menus. They were very fancy signs.

"I'll get a water." Jake said.

"Milk for the win!" I said.

Jake snorted.

"I agree with Kat." Gordon said, and we fist bumped over the table.

"Steak looks good." Jon muttered.

"And expensive." Abby squinted at the menu, fixing her glasses.

"Everything is on me." Skye spread his arms. Everyone cheered.

A minute later, the waitress arrived. We all took our orders. I decided to have the chicken. Too bad there was no bacon.

"So what's your guys' plan?" Skye asked in a low voice.

"Plan?" I asked.

Infinity snorted. "Wing it."

"Simple." Jake answered finally. "We get an appointment with the council, tell them that Kat is here. If they like it, we bring her in and good stuff happens. If they don't like it, we keep Kat away and bad stuff will happen."

"So you're winging it." Skye said.

"Not necessarily." Jake retorted. "Just depends on how they react."

I hated this conversation. Why would the council hate me? Why would they like me? Ok scratch that. I'm likable. Lovable. And if they actually hate me, then what would happen? Exile? Execution? Some other word that begins with "ex"?

"How'd you find her?" Jon asked.

"I'm sitting right here."

"I know. Hard not to miss you."

What the nether was that suppose to mean? Wait, I'm cussing in Minecraft terms. Cool.

"She came to our army camp." Jake said vaguely.

"You own a camp?" Skye raised an eyebrow. "How long?"

"Few years. Couple hundred people."

"Sweet."

"I can't tell if there's tension or a bromance going on here." Infinity whispered loudly.

Gordon, Abby, and I laughed. Jon chuckled.

A little bit later, the food arrived. We all ate, talking about randomness.

This gave me a chance to get to know Skye and Jon. Skye is a funny nice outgoing guy. He owned the swordfighting place that was passed down from his father, and he's a beast when fighting. Or so he says....

Jon is a quiet guy who seems to be rock hard and keeps his emotions to himself. So basically the opposite of Gordon. He works as a miner in a giant underground network that is under the city.

Finally, the waitress came over to collect our moneys or whatever.

"Hey Jona. Can I borrow some nuggets?" Skye whispered to Jon.

"I thought you said you got it covered!" Jon said. "And don't call me Jona."

"Pleaaaseee?" Skye begged.

Jon sighed. He got a few gold nuggets from his inventory, and put them on the table.

When we got up to leave, I heard a "psst". I looked around and saw the lone guy from before looking at me. He waved for me to join him.

Now kids, if a man (or boy) wants you to join them in a barely lit booth by yourself, SAY NO. But I'm a terrible influence, so I ignored my own advice.

"You guys go outside. I gotta go to the bathroom." I told the others.

"Say no more." Infinity said, walking out without looking back. Jake shot me a look, but walked out with the others.

I sat down the farthest I could from the guy. I half expected him to ask if I wanted to buy any ghast tears.

"I know who you are." He said. But it wasn't even creepy. It was more of an understanding, curious, excited tone. Like a little kid that guessed the right answer.

"Do you?" I fixed my hood around. "How about now?"

He tilted his head a bit. " So I know who you are, I think, but I don't know what you're doing here."

"I don't even know who I am." I sighed.

"Interesting." He mused. "I'm guessing you are going to the council?"

"Y—yes." I said. How'd he know?

"Do you need any help getting there?" He asked.

For some reason, I still wasn't creeped out. "No, we already got tour guides."

He chuckled. "This is going to be very interesting." Then, he got up, and out of the booth. "My name is Mastermind. I know yours is Katherine."

"Kat." I corrected.

"Kat." He smiled. "Well, I hope I'll see you around, Kat." Then, he walked out, onto the streets.

"Okay then." I muttered.

I fixed my hood before I got up. I didn't know I could be caught that easily.

Then, I left as well, to meet my friends outside.

Do not worry, elipticaly, your character will be important soon. He isn't gone for good.

I can't wait for the next chapter!!!!!!!!!!!! Wait I'm the author.

So I was thinking some more, which was a very painful process, and I think I might make this a trilogy. It's not official, I need to make sure I'd have enough stuff to fit in between all the juicy parts. But if it is, then I'd end this book sooner. Maybe 10 chapters? And the other books would be shorter, but more stuff happens. And if it's two books, then they'd be longer, but possibly more boring.

If you guys want a trilogy, let me know. If you want a twology, let me know.

That's the question. Because I'm too lazy to think of one.

Rock on, my little rebels.
