Chapter 21: Abby's Short Story

"Kat!" Jake's voice rang out. It sounded far away, and echoey.
"Great, now we have two unconscious bodies to carry." I heard Infinity groan.
"No..." I groaned as well. "I'm fine. Just give me a second. Pain everywhere."
My vision cleared, and I was looking at Infinity and Jake looking down at me. I was laying on the ground on the hot sand. Abby was sitting down next to Gordon, who was still unconscious. It was still nighttime, but there were no signs of creepers.
"How far did we teleport?" I muttered.
"Pretty far." Jake said, vaguely. "You got a pretty strong throw. But whenever you teleport, you do get hurt. The farther you go, the more you feel pain."
"Well I'm feeling it, so we must've gone to the moon."
"How is it that you are the only one that got hurt, when we all teleported?" Infinity asked.
"Probably because she was the one who threw it." Jake answered.
"Dang." I sat up, weakly. "I wanted you all to feel the pain. After all, we are friends."
As they chuckled, I stood up. The pain was still there, but faint. "We should rest somewhere."
"I'll build a house." Abby stood up as well.
"No." I said. "We need somewhere that is inconspicuous, in case the creepers come. We need something that won't cause any suspicion."
"Will I ever be able to build a house?" Abby sighed.
"What about there?" Infinity said, pointing to the left.
We all looked in the distance and saw some sort of structure standing out. It was made of sandstone, and had some orange wool on it.
"Ummm okay? That was easy." I said, walking over to Gordon.
"No, Kat." Jake said, walking over as well. "We don't want you to hurt yourself more. Me and Infinity can carry him."
Infinity groaned. "But I pointed out the place!"
Abby groaned as well. "I'll do it."
As Abby grabbed Gordon's arms, Jake grabbed his legs. Then, we all started walking toward the structure.

It was a temple. It was shaped like a pyramid, and had two giant square columns on each side. The columns had orange wool in a small design in the middle. But something felt off about it. Or that's just my headache.
"Sand temple." Jake breathed. "Only a few in existence. They were said to have a hidden treasure inside of them, but it's also booby trapped."
"I'd love to find that treasure." Infinity grinned.
They started to walk to the temple. But I still had that feeling.
"Guys." I said, worried. They stopped walking and looked at me. "I'm getting a funny feeling."
"Like ha-ha funny or bad funny?" Abby asked.
"Bad funny."
"Creepers?" Jake narrowed his eyes and glanced around.
"No. Just... the temple."
"Well of course it's spooky." Infinity said. "It's a freaking temple. But it's most likely been robbed already, so it's clear."
"Yeah." I frowned, not convinced.
"Let's go!" Jake tilted his head toward the temple, and we all went inside.
It wasn't very temple-like inside. There wasn't much space except in the middle, where the ceiling was at its highest. There were columns on the sides holding the place up. Another orange pattern was on the ground, with a blue wool in the middle. No light anywhere.
"I'll look around." Jake said as they laid Gordon down. "See if there are any straggler mobs."
"I'll go block the door with some sand." Infinity said. "Make it look inconspicuous." She looked at me and waved her hands in a mocking tone.
"And I'll wait here." I sat down.
"Me too." Abby said, sitting down next to Gordon.
...
"So." I said to break the silence. "What's your story?"
Abby looked at me weird. "What do you mean?"
"Like, your life. Where'd you grow up, your family, et cetera."
"Hmmm." She thought. "Well, I was born in a small base, with a loving family. I was an only child, my parents loved me, and life was good. We weren't rich or anything, but we had what we needed and that was that. Until..."
"What?" I leaned forward.
She looked at the ground. "The base that I was at was a pvp only base."
"But I thought you were bad at it."
Abby nodded. "I was. Still a-"
"All clear." Jake said as he came in, putting his sword away.
"Same here." Infinity walked in.
"Hush!" I said to both of them. "She's telling a story!"
They both shut up and sat down.
"Anyways," Abby continued. "I'm not good at fighting. I'm more of a builder. When I was 10, my parents enrolled me in a fighting class. I guess you could say that I'm the runt of the litter in that class. I did terrible. Everyone casted me out."
"Ouch." Infinity muttered.
"My parents never knew. I always got home and told them I did good. But then, the teacher talked to my parents... and..."
Abby swallowed. "I ran away. I didn't want to disappoint them anymore."
"Abby..." I pitifully said, giving her a hug. I didn't really like the physical contact, but she embraced me, too.
I felt another pair of arms wrap around us, and quickly jumped away.
"Hey." Gordon, awake, pouted. "No hug for me?"
"You're awake!" Abby hugged him.
"Yay! And yes, I am." After he left go, he scratched his head. "Though I have no idea where we are."
"Sand temple." Infinity shrugged.
"Oh. Anyone care to explain?"
Jake recapped on what happened. The creepers, enderman, enderpearls, me getting hurt (nothing new there), and then the temple.
"Ah." Gordon nodded. "I see."
"Now what I don't get." Abby said. "Is why they keep sending the mutant mobs on us. And in sort of small numbers. Like, don't they have a giant army?"
"Maybe they don't want to send in a bunch at once?" Gordon guessed.
"Nah, they got plenty to spare." Infinity waved it away.
"Do you guys think," I paused for dramatic effects. "that they're maybe giving us a good chance to escape just to scare us?"
"What do you mean?" Jake tilted his head.
"Well, if I was in charge of a big scary army, and thought that the enemy had no chance, I would send in some troops to scare them, to weaken their hope."
"Well it's a good thing you aren't in charge of one." Infinity nodded.
I grinned. But it faded away quickly. "I just don't get why they come after me. I know I'm something special, but I just don't know who I am." I looked at the ground, frustrated.
The others exchanged glances.
"Well, we should sleep." Jake broke the tension.
"We'll need a guard." I stood up. "I'll take first watch."
"No Kat." Jake scolded me. "You need to rest. Infinity will take watch."
"What?!" She protested.
Jake chuckled. "I'm kidding. I'll take first watch, but you'll take second."
"You people." Infinity laid down, covering her face with her cap.
I laid down as well. I really thought it was going to take forever, but a few seconds after my eyes shut, I drifted off to sleep.
I was woken up by Gordon's yell.
"Guys! I think I found something!"
