Chapter 16: A Song About Killing Things
Welp my drawing make Jake look like he has a black eye so I'm just gonna post it whenever. Plus, I finished this chapter a while ago (and even started on the next one) but I had to delay it. So it's just gonna be whenever.
LONG CHAPTER BECAUSE I ENJOYED WRITING IT.

"Ohhhkay please don't tell me that isn't a skeleton on steroids." Gordon pleaded.
"That's not a skeleton on steroids." Jake said. "It's-"
"The mutant skeleton." I interrupted.
"How did you...?"
"Well I doubt he's here for tea." Abby said.
"We could hope." Gordon whimpered. He hid behind Infinity, who rolled her eyes.
"HEAR ME, BASE!" The mutant skeleton yelled in a raspy yet deep voice.
Link muttered. "How can we not?"
"WE ARE PREPARED TO BREAK THROUGH YOUR WALLS AND DESTROY YOUR BASE!" He continued. "IF, AND ONLY IF, YOU GIVE US THE GIRLY, THEN WE WONT KILL ANYONE."
The army seemed to look sad at the thought of not killing anyone. Boo hoo.
"I have a feeling he's not talking about any of you." I took a shaky breath. "Okay, this is the time when I do something heroic."
"Kat don't you dare." Jake warned me.
I took a step forward to the edge of the wall.
"Kat-"
"HEAR ME ARMY!" I yelled just like the skelly. "We are prepared to fight your pathetic excuse of an army and make you run away screaming! If, and only if, you go back home, then we will show mercy!"
Everyone seems taken back by that. Even me. The whole army looked shocked, as well as the mutant skelly. My friends looked at me with a face that I would've looked at myself with if I could. I didn't know our army size and shape, why did I do that?
Then, I heard slow clapping. Link was doing it, and Gordon started clapping fast like a little kid.
"Brilliant. Best speech ever." Link said, smirking.
"You think you can beat me?!" The skeleton yelled.
"I don't know, can we Jake?" I turned to him.
Jake thought for a bit with a troubled look. Then, he looked determined. "Definitely."
"Okay yes!" I yelled back.
The mutant loaded a crossbow. "Last chance, girly. Come with us or watch all of your friends perish."
I had to admit, a little hero instinct in me wanted to go with them. I doubted our army, I admit, and I didn't want to see anyone get hurt. But another part of me told me that I couldn't do it, and to fight.
"Yeah? Well I'm done giving you chances, so get over here to I can shove that crossbow up your {CENSORED}."
"Daaaang girl." Abby said.
The mutant skeleton roared in anger and shot an arrow right at me. We all moved out of the way, but the arrow flew and hit the town hall, exploding and leaving a small hole.
I looked back. "Was that my room?! Okay now it's on."
The skeleton laughed. "We will give you puny people a chance to get ready."
"You there." Jake grabbed a guard. "I want you to warn me when the army is 50 blocks away. Got it?"
The guard nodded, and Jake moved to another one. "And you! Gather up everyone and tell them to meet here."
After the guard ran off, Jake climbed down with the rest of us. We all started running toward the town hall, where everyone was gathering.
"Listen up everyone!" Jake said.
The crowd was too loud for anyone to hear him.
"Hey!!" He said again.
"EVERYONE SHUT UP!" Infinity yelled. It was the first time she spoke when we found out about the threat, and she sounded shakier than anyone else. Nevertheless, she shut the crowd up.
"Thank you." Jake nodded. "Okay everyone! An army is about to attack us! We need to get the children and elderly to the bunker, and anyone else that doesn't wish to help fight!"
A lot of the people started heading behind the town hall. About a third of the people stayed, mostly men, ready to help.
"Jake you aren't going to let normal people fight, right?" I put a hand on his shoulder.
"They can be our last line of defense. They won't be put right into action." He answered, and I nodded.
"Okay all of you go get armor and a sword, all iron!" Abby yelled. "Go!"
As everyone set off, I noticed Infinity off a few blocks with her back toward us.
"He said he wouldn't..." she muttered, just barely enough for me to understand.
"Infinity?" I asked.
"Wha-cha!" She turned around with her hands in karate position. She put them down when she saw me. "Oh, hi Kat."
"You should probably grab your snipers and get a good spot." I didn't tell her that I heard her.
She nodded and left.
The rest of us ran back to the front gate, where around 50 people were waiting with iron armor and diamond swords.
"We'll have about 70 people fighting." Link winced. "Not enough."
"Plus the snipers." I added.
"Okay, so maybe 85."
"Come on!" Gordon stood in front. "We have amazing fighters, good armor, good defense, and we have Link and Lone Shadow as killer snipers!"
Some people nodded.
"Who's Lone Shadow?" I asked.
"Infinity." Jake stepped in. "Long story."
"Okay." I left it at that.
"They're almost here!" The guard yelled.
"Everyone! Get ready!" Jake said.
~<>~
Well we were as ready as we would ever be. We had a group of about 70 people at the front, the most experienced people in the front. About 20 archers (including volunteers) were lined up on the wall, bows at the ready. Each person had on iron armor, the ground people had iron and diamond swords, and the archers had bows with 50 arrows each. Jake, Gordon, Abby, Link, Infinity and I were on the wall above the gate each with iron armor, diamond swords, and bows. I didn't have a helmet, though. I just didn't like them that much, even though they could save my life.
"Everyone stick together and keep them back!" Jake said. "Archers at the ready!"
All of the archers (including me) notched an arrow and aimed at the army, which was about 40 blocks away.
BOOM! The wall was hit again. This time, it exposed a gap big enough for people to get in.
"And.... FIRE!" Jake yelled.
Everyone let go of their arrows, taking down the front line. The skeletons returned fire, arrows flying.
"Free fire!" Jake yelled again, bracing his sword.
Arrows flew from both directions. We were getting more hits, and haven't lost anyone. But the mob army was bigger and kept advancing.
"CHARGE!" The mutant skeleton roared.
"PROTECT THE WALL!" Jake shouted.
Our army gave a battle cry and charged out in front of the wall and stood there. Then, the armies met, undead verses living. Zombies and humans attacked each other, while skeletons and archers shot at the other unit.
I noticed a skeleton aiming for a soldier who's back was turned. I immediately shot at it and it collapsed.
The battle continued, and although they lost more people, I could tell we were being pushed back. Soon the mob army was inside our walls, and the volunteers had to join in.
"I'm gonna go help." Jake said climbing down.
"What can I do?" I asked him, anxious.
"Stay safe!" He charged to a group of soldiers that were outnumbered.
"Aw heck no." I grumbled. I jumped down, right on top of a zombie. It was really funny, actually. I ran over to a soldier about to be double teamed. I sliced the head off of a zombie, thinking that Charlie would be proud. The soldier, a girl, looked scared of me for a second, then beamed at me.
I started hacking, jabbing, slicing, stabbing. Hey, that rhymed. Maybe I can make a song about killing thing.
Hacking, jabbing, slicing, stabbing.
Stabbing, slicing, hacking, jabbing. It was just that over and over. The fighting wasn't bloody, thank goodness, but every time I see a fellow fighter fall, my chest hurt with guilt and sorrow.
I knocked the bow out of a skeleton's hands and kicked them so hard, they hit the wall and bones flew everywhere. Then, I noticed a group of zombies sneak past everyone and head behind the town hall.
They must be going to the bunker. I thought. I ran over there, stabbing a zombie on the way.
When I got behind the town hall, I saw the zombies banging on a stone patch on the side of the wall that was two tall and one wide. That must be where the bunker is.
Quickly, I shot a few down with my arrows. Then, when the rest noticed I was there, I ran in with a sword. 20 seconds later, they were all dead.
"Yay!" I fist bumped the air.
I was going to go back to the battle, when I felt my hair get yanked back. Dropping my sword in shock (nice move on my part), I was flung and landed on the ground.
"Ow..." I rubbed my hair, and looked up. The mutant skeleton was there, looking furious.
"You are coming with me." He said, grabbing my hair again and half dragging me away.
"Ow hair ow hair ow hair!" I exclaimed.
"He will be pleased." I heard the skeleton mutter in excitement.
I was tempted to yell out for help, but I didn't want to be a wimp. Go ahead, call me stupid. But I noticed that if he was holding my poor hair in one hand, then he must've put his crossbow somewhere. I looked up and saw that he put it on his back. With a big leap, I jumped up and grabbed it. There was no arrow, but with all my might, I smacked it right on the mutant skeleton's arm, which came off. I shouted in victory, but it ended when I fell on the ground.
I got up quickly, backing up, and saw the skeleton staring at his bone arm on the ground. Then, he glared at me. He started coming towards me, but a person stood in his way. Jake.
"You aren't touching her." He warned the mutant. He held his sword out. "I won't let you."
"Me either." Abby came out, along with Gordon.
"It would be boring without her." Infinity and Link showed up with their bows aimed.
And, as crazy and hilarious as it is, Jewel jumped right in front of me, staring at the skeleton as if protecting me too.
The skeleton growled. "Soon, girly." He jumped up in the air.
"Now guys!" Jake yelled and they raced forward.
But the skeleton hit the ground and went through, just like the mutant zombie did. The ground closed up right as everyone got there, leaving a scar.
Silence. Then, they all turned to me. Gordon and Abby looked relieved, Link looked the same, Infinity still looked somewhat nervous. But Jake looked furious. I could imagine steam going out of his ears.
"I told you one thing! One thing!" He exclaimed.
I got up. "I know..."
"And what do you do?!"
"I didn't do it."
"You didn't do it!" He sighed. "I told you to be safe, and you fling yourself at the mutant skeleton!"
"Technically, he flung my hair at him." I corrected. "And I needed to kill the zombies. They were trying to attack the bunker."
Jake sighed again. "But-"
"What Jake means to say-" Abby interrupted. "Is that we are glad you are safe."
Jake started again. "Well she would've been safe if she had-"
"Just give it a rest." Infinity groaned.
"Guys. When, I was being dragged away, I heard the skeleton say 'He will be pleased.'" I explained.
They looked troubled and confused.
"We can discuss that later." Jake said. "But for now..."
I gasped. "The battle!"
We all ran back to the front of the town hall, to see that the battle had ended. All of the bodies of the mobs were gone, despawned. More than half of our people were either wounded or dead, mostly wounded. Buildings near the front gate were partially destroyed, and the gate was wrecked.
"We gotta go help some people." Abby said.
"I'll go tell everyone it's okay to come out." Link headed toward the bunker.
I went over to a guy with an arrow in his knee, trying to get up.
"Hey, take it easy." I helped him sit down.
He grunted, and I recognized that sound.
"Eyyy Joe!" I grinned.
He groaned. "Hello." Then, he winced as he shifted.
"You're going to be okay. If I could survive 2 arrows, you can survive 1."
He looked like he was about to counter me, but then nodded. A guy came by and started to help him.
I looked back and saw people coming from the bunker. A lot went to help the wounded, some went to help repair buildings, and some just stood there awkwardly.
"We gotta get everyone to the hospital." Jake said as he helped up a guy with cuts on his arms.
"Yeah..." I agreed. "Then we're going to talk."
