Chapter Fourteen: S.R.A.
Anthony's P.O.V.
The four of us took our little abnormalities and ran with them. We spent hours talking in my room that night.
"He's never spent that much time in his kingdom before."
"He doesn't call Virgil 'my love."
"Virgil can't seem to pry away from him for more than a minute or two."
"That signature isn't his."
Our conversation basically went like that until nearly midnight when Patton came knocking at my door, telling us to all get ready for bed. Without hesitation, Owen said goodbye and stood up to leave, but we stopped him.
"Wait, Owen," I said. "I have an idea. We need to make a club."
"Like a secret society," Camille questioned.
"Exactly a secret society! We've got our members, our purpose, now we just need a name and a disguise."
"We should have 'sub rosa' in our name," Camille suggested. "It means happening or done in secret, which is perfect for the name of a secret society."
"I've got it," Milly exclaimed. "We should call it Sub Rosa Abnormalities!"
"Perfect! Now, what about a disguise?"
"We could pretend it's a book club," Owen suggested. "And we could even bring books with us to really sell it."
"We could refer to it only as S.R.A.," Milly said. "And if anyone asks what it stands for, we just tell them 'Social Reading Activities.'"
"This is perfect, good ideas, guys! Now, the first meeting of Sub Rosa Abnormalities is officially adjourned." With that, everyone said their goodbyes and goodnights and left.

A few days later, I went downstairs in the middle of the day and found no one there. I was hungry, so I started making myself a sandwich. A moment later, I heard footsteps coming down the stairs behind me.
"Hey, Anthony," Owen greeted. "What are you up to?"
"Right now, talking to you and making a sandwich," I said.
"Well thanks for the news report, Captain Obvious," Owen joked. "I mean, what have you been up to today?"
"I've been sword fighting some ferocious pillows. It's been a pretty lonely battle though, since I don't have my fellow warrior with me today. I wish Roman would just go back to normal, that way he could fight those evil pillows with me."
"That reminds me, what about the S.R.A.? When's our next meeting?"
"S.R.A.," called a voice from the stairs. "What's that? Owen and I turned to see Logan walking towards us.
"It's a book club," Owen said, nudging my arm ever so slightly.
"Stands for Social Reading Activities," I added with a smile. "The four of us kids made it." Logan seemed to buy it, and actually seemed impressed too.
"Well then, I'm glad to see that you've all developed an interest in a reading for pleasure. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have my own books to continue reading." He grabbed an apple out of the fruit bowl on the counter and went back towards the stairs. "I hope you enjoy your book club."
"That was close," Owen whispered once Logan was out of earshot. Then, slowly yet suddenly, he grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers.
"I'm scared," he whispered after a short pause. I turned to face him directly.
"Scared," I questioned. "Of what?"
"Roman. We all know there's something wrong with him, but what if it's not just something wrong? What if.. what if that's not even Roman?"
"What? Not even Roman?"
"Yeah. I mean, think about it: the dragon witch from last year wasn't actually the Dragon Witch, it was just Camille disguised as her."
"Are you saying that Roman could be an impostor?"
"Well, yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying."
Owen's P.O.V.
"One thirty tomorrow morning, my room," Anthony whispered to me in class a few days later as he passed by on the way to his seat. It took me a while to understand that he was talking about the next S.R.A. meeting. I watched as Anthony moved from person to person, whispering his message to the rest of our members.
The following morning, I woke up at one twenty-five and got dressed, grabbed my books, then opened up my door and snuck down the hallway to Anthony's room. Everyone else was already there, and apparently no one had slept beforehand like I did. But, as I looked around the room, I realized there were new people in the room: two girls, both a little older than us.
"'Sup, name's Lori," said the girl on the left. She had blue hair, pale skin, all black clothes, and glowing scarlet eyes.
"Greetings, my name is Tori," said the girl on the right. She had white hair, dark skin, colorful clothes, and glowing gold eyes.
"These are the Lambargni twins," Anthony said. "They're the kingdom's royal mages, and they're going to join the S.R.A." We all greeted the Lambargni twins.
"Being part of the royal court, we have connections to everyone in the kingdom," Tori said.
"We know everything," Lori said. "From who's birthday it is to what laws are being passed to, say, what's wrong with the prince."
"We ought to get this meeting started then," Camille announced. "Anthony, you got the room sealed?"
"Yup."
"Milly, got the camera set up?"
"Uh-huh."
"Hold on," I said. "You set up a camera? For what?"
"In case someone walks by and tries to come in," Milly answered. "We don't want anyone to know we're here, so we'll all take our stuff and hide in here," She stood up, walked over to the wall, and pushed on it. It opened up and revealed a small dark room with nothing in it but a small lightbulb on the ceiling.
"Yeah," Anthony muttered. "I did a lot of remodeling to my room in the past couple days. That room blocks all light and sound from going in or out. Anyway, Lori, Tori, what have you got for us?"
"Prince Roman started calling his workers 'servants,'" Lori said.
"What?!" Milly, Camille, Anthony, and I yelled at the same time. Our shock was interrupted by a quiet buzzing noise, and Milly pulled her phone out of her pocket.
"Oh, crap," she whispered. "Everyone, get your stuff and hide—Roman's in the hallway."
As fast and quiet as we possibly could, Milly, Camille, Lori, Tori, and I grabbed our things and ran to the secret room while Anthony switched his lights off and got in his bed.
"Unseal the room, Anthony," Camille whisper-yelled as she shut the door to the secret room. "But keep the door locked." The door shut all the way, and Milly turned on the room's small light.
"Why would he be wandering the halls this early in the morning," Tori asked.
"Perhaps the same reason we've met in a bedroom this early in the morning," Lori replied. "Just as we are searching for information, he is too."
