Chapter 35
*Isabella's P.O.V*
"Bye Mum, bye Dad, bye little ones." I kissed Mum and Dad on the cheek and Emilia and Eduardo on the foreheads.
"Bye, Bells." All four of them said in unison, making me giggle as I swung my backpack over my shoulder. I left the house and as usual, made my way to the bus stop where I met Max and Harvey.
"Izzy," They greeted me with smiles. Well, Max did, Harvey was too interested in his phone.
"Hey." I smiled back at him.
"Glad to see you're feeling better." Max said since I'd been off sick the last couple days.
"Yep, I'm right as rain now," I grinned, "Have I missed anything?"
"Uh, no, not at all." Max told me but there was something about his tone that didn't sound so convincing. Before I could question him about it, though, the bus arrived. We all got on and Harvey still wouldn't look up from his damn phone. I'm surprised he didn't trip and fall flat on his face, to be honest.
"Who's he texting?" I asked Max once we'd sat down and Harvey was now smiling at his phone like an idiot.
"Uh, I dunno." Max shrugged but once again, I didn't quite believe him.
"Really? Because I think that maybe you do know." I raised an eyebrow at him.
"I don't, I swear!" Max cried, "I don't have a clue, not a single one, he could be texting Barack Obama for all I know!"
"Okay, okay," I laughed at his outburst, "You're a weirdo, Max Mills."
"You're a weirdo, Isabella SacconeJoly." He retaliated.
"Touché." I replied before we both laughed. We soon arrived at school and Harvey wondered off without saying a word, just as Hailee joined Max and I walking into school.
"What is up with him?" I asked, glancing in the direction Harvey went in.
"No idea." Hailee said.
"Beats me." Max said.
"Anyway, tell us how your date with Noah went." I couldn't help but notice how quickly they changed the subject.
"It wasn't a date," I playfully rolled my eyes at Hailee who was wiggling her eyebrows, "We just talked about our art project."
"Sure, okay, Iz." She teased, dragging out the word 'sure'.
"Shut up." I gave her a shove as we both giggled. The bell for first class soon went so we went our separate ways and as usual, I didn't see them again until break.
"Hey." I grinned as I walked up to them at break.
"Oh, uh, hey, Iz." Max greeted me. They both seemed kinda nervous.
"Are you two okay?"
"Us? Oh yeah, we're fine. We're dandy." Hailee beamed and I just gave her a funny look. They've been acting so weird today.
"Hey, why don't we go somewhere else that's not here?" Max randomly suggested.
"Uh, sure, let me just get a drink first."
"No!" They both screamed when I started heading towards the water fountain.
"What the hell is wrong with you two?!" I practically shouted, but in my defence they just almost gave me a heart attack.
"Nothing, it's just, um, wouldn't you rather get a drink from the bathroom? The water in there is way better." Hailee said, which was a complete lie. The water in the bathroom has always been rank.
"Thanks, but I think I'll stick to the fountain." I said before turning and walking away. I really don't know what's up with those two. Why are they acting so strange? What are they hiding from me? What are they trying to- Oh, now I get it.
I stopped dead in my tracks as I reached the water fountain, my heart dropping when I saw who were leaning against the lockers next to it. It was Harvey and Candice...and they were making out.
"Oh," I spoke before I could stop myself, making the two of them leap apart and look at me like a pair of deer in headlights, "Max and Hailee were right... Perhaps the water in the bathroom is better." I awkwardly said before I turned and ran off, ignoring Harvey's calls for me. I ran back past Max and Hailee and ignored them as well. I just kept running until I reached the bathroom, which luckily was empty. I put my hands on the sink and leaned against it while I tried to catch my breath. I was so confused, my emotions were so mixed up. Was I mad? Was I sad? Did I want to cry? Did I want to punch something?
Eventually, I pulled myself together and tried talking some sense into myself. Me and Harvey aren't even together, we broke up months ago. He's allowed to date and do whatever with whoever he wants. But... I still like him and I always hoped he might still like me too. I guess now I know he doesn't.
Tears filled my eyes but blinked them away as the door opened and Hailee walked in.
"Hey," She said sympathetically.
"Hey," I smiled, putting on a brave face.
"You okay?"
"Course I am, why wouldn't I be?"
"I just though, with Harvey and Candice and all..." She awkwardly trailed off.
"Oh, them? Yeah, that's cool. I was just shocked at first, that's why I ran off." I mean, that's not completely untrue. I was shocked, and also kinda heartbroken.
"So, you're okay with it?" Hailee asked in surprise.
"I'm fine with it." I lied, just as the bell went, "Right, come on, we don't wanna be late for our next classes."
We both left the bathroom and went our separate ways. I had PE next so I grabbed my kit from my locker before making my way to the girls' changing room, where the rest of the girls from my class were.
"Izzy," As I walked into the sports hall I heard someone call my name and turned around to see Noah walking over to me, "Hey."
"Hey, Noah." I halfhearted returned the smile he gave me.
"You alright? You seem a bit down." He observed.
"Yeah, it's just been one of those days." I shrugged, deciding not to go into detail.
"Oh, that sucks, but fear not, for I am here to make your day a bajillion times better."
"I'm pretty sure bajillion isn't even a word but okay." I giggled and Noah laughed.
We were playing volleyball for PE and soon, the team captains started choosing their players. Noah and I ended up on the same team which I'm not complaining about.
"You're in luck." Noah smirked at me.
"And why's that?" I smirked right back, folding my arms.
"Because you've got me on your team, duh!"
"What, and you're supposed to be some volleyball champion, are you?" I raised an eyebrow.
"As a matter of fact, I am." He put his hands on my hips making me laugh.
The game soon started and everything was going fine, until Candice (who was on the opposing team) 'accidentally' threw the ball at me and if it hadn't been for Noah who pushed me out of the way just in time, it would've hit me and probably knocked me out.
"Oi, watch where you lob that thing!" He snapped at Candice who just smirked evilly at me, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Thanks," I smiled at him, grateful that he cared so much, "Let's just get back to the game."
We started playing again but it was hard to concentrate with all the thoughts running through my mind.
Before, I could've just been being paranoid when I thought Candice had a problem with me, but now I'm almost certain. The first clue might've been her going after my ex boyfriend even though she knew I still liked him. Maybe I should confront her... Ugh, but I hate confrontation. It makes me anxious.
I was so caught up in my own head that I didn't see Candice hurl the ball at me again. This time, Noah wasn't there to save me and I was too distracted to save myself, so it hit me. And then everything went black.
