Chapter 21
*Isabella's P.O.V*
It was now the next day and just like every morning for the past week, we were going down to the beach. After putting on my blue tie dye bikini, my white low cut cover up, my brown and gold pineapple flipflops and putting my hair in a messy bun, I grabbed my white beach bag that had gold pineapples all over which matched by flipflops, before Erika and I left our hotel room and went to meet everyone else.
Mum, Dad, Emilia and Eduardo took the stairs as usual, but I decided to go in the lift with Erika and Oma because even though I could probably do with the exercise, I wasn't up for taking hundreds of steps in the early hours of the morning. The Mills had set off before us so they were already at the beach when we arrived. Max was in the sea with Leo and Tilly while Harvey was sat on one of the sun chairs. Sara and Paul were obviously there too.
"Hey." I slowly walked up to Harvey, slightly cautious. I really hoped he would be in a better mood today.
"Izzy, hey," He stood up and smiled as soon as he saw me, "Look, I'm really sorry about last night. I was in a bad mood but I shouldn't have taken it out on those around me, especially not you."
"It's alright, Harves. We all have those moods sometimes, right?" I said, "Look, how about we just go and have fun at the beach and forget about it, yeah? Hey, speaking of which, why aren't you in the sea with Max and the little ones?"
"I was waiting for you to arrive, so I could apologise."
A smile spread across my face as I took his hand, "Come on." I said before dragging him down into the sea. The water was pretty cold and I gasped as it touched my skin for the first time and Harvey laughed.
"Shut up!" I playfully shoved him but I may have been a bit too forceful because he lost his balance and the next thing I knew, he was sat in the shallow water. My mouth opened in shock that I had just done that and when he looked up all dazed and surprised, I had to cover my mouth to stop myself from laughing.
"Oh, you think this is funny, huh?" He raised his eyebrows as he stood up and tried to look intimidating as he folded his arms over his bare chest, but a smirk played on his face as he tried not to laugh.
"No, of course not." I giggled. Harvey then shook his head, deliberately spraying me with the droplets of water that flew out of his wet hair.
"Harvey!"
"You think that's bad? Oh, just you wait." He smirked.
"Wait, what are you gonna-" I was cut off when something wet, slimy and green hit my face. He threw some freaking seaweed at my face.
"Harvey! That could've gone in my hair!" I whined, wiping my face.
"Oh, how tragic would that have been." He gasped sarcastically and put a dramatic hand on his forehead.
"I'm gonna give you two seconds to run." I shot daggers at Harvey before he legged it and I counted to two before I ran after him. He ended up running over to his siblings, who had now been joined by my siblings, dad and Erika and he stood behind Tilly because, for some reason, he though a 5 year-old girl of barely 3ft would be a great shield.
"Harvey, what are you doing?" Tilly giggled.
"Running from that!" He pointed at me as if I was Godzilla or something.
"Why?" Pretty much everyone asked.
"Because he threw seaweed at my face!" I said, glaring at Harvey.
"Only because she pushed me into the water!"
"It's not like I pushed you into the deep, bottomless abyss of the middle of the ocean is it? The water barely reached your knees!"
"I still ended up with salty sea water in my mouth!"
"I really wish I'd seen that." Max laughed, causing me to giggle and Harvey to glare at us. After some more running around (or wading through the water as quickly as we could), I finally caught Harvey and we basically just had a splashing war and before long, everyone had joined in. It was just like at the pool on our first day here. However, after all the rushing around and having fun, I tired myself out so I decided to take a break from the sea. I got out of the water and made a beeline for where Mum, Oma, Sara and Paul were sunbathing, only to trip on someone's beach bag that I didn't see was directly in my path. I only acknowledged it's existence when I went flying over it. I accepted that I was about to faceplant in front of the whole beach and either die from the blow of the hard wooden walkway or from embarrassment, so I just closed my eyes and waited for the impact to come, only it never did. Instead, a pair of arms wrapped around my bare waist and pulled me to safety. When I finally opened my eyes, I instantly recognised the face of my rescuer and smiled. Fabio.
"Sorry, I should not have put my bag right in such an inconvenient place." He said, his eyes big and apologetic.
"It's fine, I should've been looking where I was going." I replied, my smile never faltering. Fabio let out a small chuckled and I gave him a quizzical look.
"What?"
"Even now that we have each other's mobile numbers the only time we are seeing each other is bumping into each other by coincidence." He said and I couldn't help but laugh as well.
"Maybe the universe is trying to tell us something." I smirked.
"Yes, perhaps it is telling you that you should look where you are walking and stop bumping into Italian guys that you only met a few days ago." He teased, smirking right back at me.
"Hey!" I laughed, playfully punching his arm, causing Fabio to start laughing as well. I then looked back over my shoulder and spotted Harvey, once again, giving Fabio and I dirty looks and my smile fell slightly. I hated to think that I was making Harvey feel bad, but Fabio was such a nice guy and I didn't want to completely drop him from my life. I know, I know, I met him like three days ago but I could see him as a really good friend.
"Are you alright?" Fabio asked me as I hadn't said anything for a few minutes and probably looked pretty zoned out.
"Uh, yeah, I was just thinking... My family and friends are playing in the sea and I was wondering if maybe you'd like to join us? Cienna could even make friends with my little brother and sister and my friend's little sister." I offered. Maybe if we all hung out as a group then Harvey could get to know Fabio a bit more and actually learn to like him. Plus, having all of us together might make mine and Fabio's conversations look less intimate to Harvey.
"Okay," Fabio smiled, "I will just go and get Cienna."
"Okie dokie." I grinned, before Fabio disappeared for a minute and then returned with his little sister. The three of us then went back down into the water and swam over to Dad, Emilia, Eduardo, Erika, Harvey, Max, Leo and Tilly.
"Hey guys." I said loud enough to get all of their attention. They all turned to look at us and as soon as Harvey saw Fabio, he started glaring.
"Uh, so, this is Fabio, he's a friend of mine." I explained, not knowing what else to say. Everyone was friendly (minus Harvey), apart from Dad who put on a tough face as he walked up to Fabio.
"I'm Jonathan, Isabella's father." He said, the hard look never leaving his face.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, sir." Fabio said nervously and I found myself dying from embarrassment. Dad was acting like he was picking me up for a date or something.
"Oh, and this is Fabio's sister, Cienna." I added, as Emilia ran up to Cienna.
"Hi, I'm Emilia!" She grinned. Cienna looked up at Fabio, probably not understanding what Emilia was saying so Fabio translated. The two little girls were soon swimming off together, giggling, despite having only just met and speaking different languages. Hopefully Erika or Oma would be able to translate a little as they spoke better Italian than anyone here, other than Fabio and Cienna of course. While the little ones and the adults were off together, Max and Harvey came over to Fabio and I.
"Hey, I'm Max." Max gave Fabio a friendly smile. We then all glanced at Harvey who was looking not-so-friendly.
"And I'm Harvey." He mumbled, still shooting daggers at Fabio. Max started up a conversation with him and when Fabio mentioned he played the guitar (which was actually news to me as well), they immediately hit it off. They ended up wandering off together, discussing their mutual love for the string instrument, leaving Harvey and I alone.
"So, you consider Fabio a friend?" Harvey asked me, the bitterness obvious in his voice.
"Uh, yeah, is that a problem?"
"No, but you have only just met him."
"Yeah, but I knew you were going to end up being a great friend after I'd only just met you." I said and Harvey cracked a small smile.
"I guess... Just be careful, yeah?"
"I will, Harv, I can take care of myself." I smiled up at him so he knew I wasn't having a go.
"I know, I know." He put his hands up in defence.
"Come on, let's go and join everyone else instead of standing here in the corner like lemons." I smirked.
"What even is that expression." Harvey laughed and I giggled before we went over to everyone else.
We stayed at the beach for about an hour and Harvey and Fabio didn't end up best friends, but I think Harvey hated him a little less now. After the beach, we went up to the restaurant for something to eat and Fabio and his family ended up joining us for that as well.
"This has been a lot of fun." Fabio said when we were stood in the hotel lobby before going out separate ways.
"It has, hasn't it?" I grinned.
"You know, Isabella, these last few days since we met have been a lot of fun too. You are an amazing girl."
"I am?" I giggled, my cheeks heating up.
"Yes, and I was wondering if you would like to go on a date with me?"
I froze, no idea what to say. Fabio just asked me out. Fabio, the insanely handsome and charming Italian boy that I met only a few days ago. He wants to go on a date with me.
Get a grip, Isabella. Think about Harvey! My conscience shouted me and I sighed, knowing it was right.
"I'm sorry, Fabio, but I can't. We only just met." I told him and the guilt that stabbed me when I saw the way his face fell was almost unbearable.
"I'm sorry." I said, trying to sound as sincere as possible before I ran into the lift that would take me up to my room before Fabio could speak.
"Erika!" I called out desperately as I walked into our room.
"What's wrong?" She asked as she emerged from the bathroom.
"Fabio just asked me out..."
"No way! Did you say yes?"
"Well, anyone in their right minds would say yes, wouldn't they? I mean, he's handsome, he's charming, he's funny, he knows how to make me smile..." I paused and sighed, "But I must be crazy because I said no."
"Because of Harvey?" Erika asked me with a knowing look. I sighed again and just nodded.
*Harvey's P.O.V*
I walked back to me, Max and Leo's room with anger bubbling inside me. I've never hated anyone as much as I hate that Fabio kid. Isabella literally met him like three days ago and they're acting like best buddies. She doesn't even know anything about him. For all she knows he could have a violent criminal record. And no, I'm not just saying this because I'm jealous. No, of course I'm not jealous of seeing them always talking in private little corners and Isabella giggling at everything he says and them blatantly flirting with each other.
As I passed Isabella and Erika's room, Isabella said something that made me stop dead in my tracks.
"Fabio just asked me out..."
"No way! Did you say yes?" I heard Erika ask her.
"Well, anyone in their right minds would say yes, wouldn't they? I mean, he's handsome, he's charming, he's funny, he knows how to make me smile..."
That's when I knew I'd had enough. If I heard any more I don't know what I'd have done. In an even worse mood than before, I stormed off down the corridor, thinking of ways to convince Isabella not to go out with Fabio.
*Isabella's P.O.V*
It was now a lot later in the evening and we were all on our way back to the hotel after dinner. I was wearing a creamy white off-the-shoulder dress with thin blue vertical stripes with a bow tied around my waist and a pair of white high top Converse. My hair was french braided and around my neck was a gold flying heart necklace, around my wrist was a blush flower stretch bracelet set and in my ears was a pair of rose gold diamond sun earrings. I had my light brown Saint Laurent cross body bag over my shoulder and my phone was sporting a peace sign glitterfall case.
We all went up the lift to the floor with our rooms on but before I could reach mine and Erika's, Harvey grabbed my arm.
"Izzy, can I talk to you?"
"What's up?"
"I don't think you should go out with Fabio." He blurted and I stared at him in disbelief.
"Excuse me?"
"It's just, you only met him a couple days ago and you don't know what he's really like."
"How do you even know he asked me out?"
"I might've heard you and Erika tal-"
"You were eavesdropping?!" I shouted.
"No, I just... I don't want you to go out with him if you don't know what you might be in for."
"Sorry, but you don't get to tell me what to do." I remarked, attitude dropping from my voice.
"I'm not!"
"Well, it sure feels like you are!"
"I'm just trying to look out for you!" He yelled.
"I can take care of myself!" I yelled back, before calmly saying, "You obviously don't know this, probably because your head's too far up your backside at the moment, but I actually said no when Fabio asked me out. But now I'm thinking I shouldn't have, because he won't listen in on my private conversations and try to take control of my life." And with that, I turned and stormed off to my room, leaving Harvey to stand and process what just happened. Erika was in Mum, Oma and Emilia's room at the moment so I walked into our empty room and took out my phone. I clicked on Fabio's number and called him but it went to voicemail so I just left him a message.
"Hey, Fabio, I'm really sorry about earlier, I was just taken by surprise, but if the offer's still there, I'd love to go in a date with you. I don't really know what else to say so... Bye for now."
