Dinner
~Sirius POV~
"Hey Siri, have you seen Jade?"
"No. Didn't she go to the common room after curfew or something?"
"No. At least, I don't think so. I didn't see her on the sofa and her roommates were asking about her whereabouts." I started to panic but didn't let Reg know. She's probably setting up some bombs in Filch's office. No need to worry.
"She's probably with Peeves or something. She'll show up in a few. Go have breakfast okay? We'll talk later if you want." I ruffled his hair and he groaned waking over to the Slytherin table and fixing his hair. I laughed a bit and sat next to James still worrying. "Do you have any idea of where your twin may be?"
"Nope. I may be her twin but we're in different houses remember? The whole dilema with her being a snake and me being a Gryff? Ring any bells?" James rolled his eyes and served himself some breakfast.
"Very funny James. But I'm serious. Where is she? She said that she was going to the common room after she dropped Moony off at the hospital wing."
"Calm down, Sirius. I'm sure that she spent the night with Moony or something." I glared at him slightly. "Don't give me that look. Remember what we talked about."
"What we talked about was stupid. I don't have feelings for her." I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, and I don't love Evans. Nice try, Sirius. Better luck next time." James smirked and started to make conversation with Peter. I groaned and served myself some breakfast.
I don't have feelings for Jade. I just think that she's adorable. The way she smiles, laughs, the little smile she always has when she's talking about something she's passionate about. The way she tilts her head slightly when she doesn't understand something. How her face lights up whenever she has an idea. The way she has the ability to light up a room with just a smile is bloody amazing. She's just perfect. But I don't have feelings for her. I can't have feelings for her. She's James' sister. James deemed her off limits to any of us.I don't have feelings for her. Or do I? I'm so confused.
I was pulled out of my train of thought when I saw Jade storm in the Great Hall with her tie undone, robe and bag in her hand, her hair up in a messy ponytail, and glasses. She wears glasses!? Why have I never noticed?
"So you finally decide to bless us with your hot mess presence." James smirked.
"Shush, James. I feel as if I've run the entire castle four times. I barely had time to brush my hair." She sat down next to Peter and started to fix her tie. "Screw it, I'll just wear it loose today. I don't have the energy for this. I barely slept." She grabbed a plate and started to serve herself some breakfast. "Pass me the orange juice. I've had enough of pumpkin for a while."
"Where were you last night?" Peter asked her concerned. "And why do you-"
"Don't say it. I look like a mess, I know. I was in the hospital wing all night with Moony. Some of his wounds opened up again and Pomfrey and I stayed up most of the night fixing them. He's okay. He just needs to sleep. Hopefully he'll join us at dinner."
"Well I consider it a miracle that you're wearing your glasses. You never wear them" James said amused.
"My head hurts today. That's the only reason I'm wearing them" she rolled her eyes and started to eat.
"Since when do you wear glasses?" I asked.
"Since about second year. I never wear them though. Only at night in the common room or at home whenever you guys aren't there. I don't like them." She shrugged.
"Why not? You look beautiful with them." James jabbed my ribcage glaring at me. I shrugged him off and continued to admire Jade.
"I dunno. I think I look a lot like Bam Bam with them on." She touched her neck and groaned. "I forgot the necklace and I won't have time to get it before class."
She banged her head against the table various times before Peter stopped her.
"You're a witch, remember? Accio?" Peter suggested.
"I'll just get it during free period or something. I'm too exhausted to do magic right now." She yawned and rubbed her eyes. "It's well hidden and I charmed my trunk so Parkinson won't be able to get it."
"Always thinking one step ahead huh?" I smirked at Jade who blushed slightly.
"You know me, Sirius. It's the Snake in me." She smiled and ate her breakfast and I just sat there and admired her until James jabbed me.
"Can you stop?"
"Remember, Sirius. I'm serious about this."
"Since when are you serious about something? Whatever this is, it must be good." Jade laughed and smirked at James. "Care to share, big bro?"
"Don't feel like it" he shrugged and ate his breakfast in complete silence. Jade rolled her eyes and did the same thing. Peter and I gave each other a knowing look and nodded. These two are going to fight soon.
...
"There he is! The man of the hour" James exclaimed as Remus walked in.
"How are you feeling, Moony?" Jade took his hand and sat him next to her. I sighed and looked at my food and James jabbed me again.
"Remember" he muttered.
"I remember. Don't be prissy about it."
"I'm okay now. Thanks for staying the night, Jade. That chair didn't look too comfortable." Jade smiled at Remus and waved it off like it was nothing.
"I told you last year, anything for my Moony. I'm just glad to see you all right. You scared the crap out of me last night." Jade took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes. "My back will live. I was more worried about you."
Remus smiled at her and took her glasses.
"Since when do you wear glasses?"
"Second year. I barely wear them though." She shrugged and took the glasses from him and put them on. "At least my eyesight is better than James or else I would go mad."
"Why don't you wear them?" Remus asked again.
"I look too much like Bam Bam with them on. It's bad enough that I'm his twin sister." She smirked.
"We look nothing alike!" He exclaimed.
"Umm, we kinda do idiot. Only difference is the eye color and the fact that I'm a girl." She rolled her eyes and served Moony some food. "Eat, you'll feel better." He smiled in thanks and started to eat.
Throughout the entire dinner, I couldn't keep my eyes off of Jade. She looked absolutely beautiful. Her hair was finally out of her face and it made her look even more beautiful. Sure, she looked amazing in the wedding, but nothing can compare with how she looks now. She barely ever wears makeup, not that she needs it. Every single boy in Hogwarts wants her and every girl wants to be her. But that doesn't matter to me. I want to see her smile everyday and me being the cause of it. I want her but James won't let me near her.
"Sirius, are you okay? You've been staring at me for the last ten minutes." Jade snapped her fingers in front of me making me leave my train of thought.
"Huh? Sorry, sunshine. Just admiring your beauty, I guess" I winked at her. She blushed and hid her face in Remus' shoulder. I smiled and James grabbed my hair. "James, not the hair!"
"Last warning, Sirius. I'm not joking about this." He whispered and I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever." I mumbled and started to eat.
Screw you James, I'll have her someday.
...
~Jade's POV~
"Hey Bam Bam, can I talk to you for a minute? Alone preferably." I glared at my brother and he sighed standing up dramatically. He nodded and we left the Great Hall. "What the hell is going on between you and Sirius?"
"Nothing is-"
"Bullshit! You are never angry at him and now it seems that everything that he does is annoying you. But not only that, it seems that whenever I'm near him, you have to step in. What the hell is going on?"
"I'll tell you-"
"Don't say that you'll tell me when I'm older because I'll punch you in the face and you know that I'll do it. What the hell is going on?" I glared at him.
"You wouldn't understand." He looked away.
"Try me." I dared him.
"Jade, just trust me. I'm saving you from pain."
"Pain from what!? Of Sirius being my best friend? That's rich, James." I rolled my eyes.
"Like I've said, you'd never understand." He looked down. "I'm trying to protect you."
"Yeah, whatever James. You do you, I guess. I won't stop being his friend. You don't control my life" I shrugged and went to enter the Great Hall when he grabbed my arm.
"He really wasn't kidding when he said that you were dense." He laughed softly. "Brightest witch in our year and yet you still don't notice. Everybody notices except you"
"What?"
"Why do you think that everybody is jealous of you? Why do you think that every girl glared at you when you walk into a room? It's all because of Sirius. You have what they can't have." James crossed his arms and rolled his eyes.
"And what's that?"
"You have poor Sirius wrapped around your little finger. You can literally say that you're going to jump off the astronomy tower and he'll jump first just to see if it's safe for you. He doesn't give family heirlooms to just anybody and he didn't even want me to go to Bellatrix's wedding. He only wanted you. He wants you, Didi." I felt a wave a shock run over me.
"Me?"
"Yes you! He adores you, Jade. I don't think there's anything he wouldn't do for you. But you know how he is, he'll just break your heart. I'm only saving you from heartbreak." James said softly.
"James, you don't decide how or when I get my heart broken. You can't control every single aspect of my life. I say nothing when I see you try time and time again to get Lily's attention. She's been breaking your heart since first year and I haven't said anything." I crossed my arms and leaned back on the wall.
"Evans is different."
"No it's not! It's the same bloody thing. You're after my friend desperate to make her love you back. When will you get your head out of you damn ass? She doesn't love you, James. And you've never asked yourself if I actually like Sirius" I trailed off and suddenly found my shoes the most interesting thing in the world.
"You like him?" I said nothing. "Jade Amelia Potter, look at me."
"Maybe I do, maybe I don't. But what does it matter now? You don't want him near me because apparently I'm a fragile little being who can't defend herself. You seem to forget what happened second year in the greenhouse."
"That's exactly why I'm doing this. I'm not repeating that story."
"And you think Sirius will do something like that? Are you fucking kidding me? Don't you know him at all?" I glared at him.
"That's not what I meant, Jade."
"That's exactly what you meant. And I ought to punch you just for that. He'll never do that to me. He respects me too much." I rolled my eyes and sat on the floor. James sighed and sat in front of me.
"I know that, Jade. But I just can't deal with seeing you broken again. I just can't." He trailed off.
"Who was the one that brought me back to my old self? It was Sirius. He was the one who would go out of his way to make me laugh despite everything that was happening with his family. He was the one who took me to the dungeons every single night after dinner because he didn't want me walking alone the corridors at night. Sirius was the one who told everybody off whenever I felt uncomfortable in class or at free period. All of that was Sirius. And yet you still don't trust him." I wiped the tears from my eyes and looked at the ground.
"I know that. And I do trust him-"
"Then why won't you give him the chance?" I rolled my eyes.
"You like him, don't you?" I nodded and he sighed ruffling his hair. "I won't promise that I won't try and separate you both, but I promise that if I see how happy he makes you, I'll back off no questions asked." I rolled my eyes again.
"Not good enough, James."
"I consider this an absolute win. If he can find a way to be with you despite me trying to separate you both, I'll approve of him dating my little sister." He smiled at his not so brilliant idea.
"He'll find a way. He's not stupid."
"If he truly wants you that is." I punched his arm and laughed. He stood up and offered his hands. I took them and stood up. James gave me a hug and I sighed happily. "You know, I don't think we hug often."
"We really don't, we should do this more often." I laughed and hugged him back. James broke the hug smiling and we entered the Great Hall again siting down with our friends. I was going to move to sit next to Sirius, but James beat me to it and gave a smirk. I rolled my eyes and sat between Remus and Peter.
"James isn't dead. I consider this an absolute win." Peter said laughing.
"So do I, Peter. Although he might be dying soon who knows." I shrugged and gave him a look. He smiled sheepishly at me.
"You can't live without me little sis."
"Want to see me try?" I smirked.
"No talking about death at the dinner table please." Remus scolded at me and I laughed. I looked at Sirius who was already staring at me and I winked at him.
Let the games begin. And let me tell you James, you will lose. I'll see to it personally.
