DOMINO

What to change?
You asked me once.
I said everything,
all at once.
So many things,
Happening everywhere.
So many wrongs,
Are wild and free anywhere.

War, hunger, diseases,
Poverty, crimes, and bigotry;
I pray that those
Be gone and never had been.
Religions, caste, and crusades,
Politics, economy, and oligarchy —
All of which could do
Some alterations and/or vanishing.

It could be better,
It could be worse.
But then again,
I thought again.
I could never change those,
So, I'd change none but my own.
If I could change the “me” that I am,
Wouldn't everything around me, too, change?
And won't those around them go and change as well?

I have learned all my life —
That if I could be a little bit kinder,
A tad more generous, patient,
Diligent and willing to walk that extra mile;
If I could be less angry, less greedy,
Or a lot less lazy and material hungry;
If I could be all of those,
And be renewed and reborn;
Then wouldn't the persons around me,
Feel good and blessed knowing the new me?

So now here I am,
Sitting, thinking of a poem —
Changing nothing but my writing —
In hopes that it would reach,
touch,  and influence its readers,
And let them think of change as well.
For the better —
I hope.
I pray.
I believe!
