Chapter 8|| Do you love her after one night...?

"Sometimes, I think of the sun
and the moon as lovers who rarely meet,
always chase, and almost always
miss one another.
But once in a while, they do catch up..."

"Happy Birthday kiddo!" I smiled as I scooped Alanna into my arms as soon as we walked through the door.

It was the Sunday of Battleground and it happened to be my goddaughter's birthday celebration as well.

I was sure Randy would have liked for us to sleepover but his parents' house wasn't that big and I wanted some alone time with my wife before everything took over.

I caught her sweet smile as she followed with the gift bag in hand. I knew what was going through her mind, it was a look she had on her face whenever I would be honoured by granting a wish. I knew starting a family was something that would be in the cards for us soon.

Not too soon but in the next few years perhaps, I wanted her to be fully satisfied in her career before we tried. I knew I had been taking up more responsibilities work wise but I would definitely work around it for Brianna and our future kids. I could be a workaholic, I guess it was why my previous marriage failed but having Brianna was good for me. Because she was understanding and didn't question where my loyalties lied, she knew how much it all meant to me but she also knew I would give it all up for her.

"Nicole, not with you?" I heard Randy's dad, Bob, and shook my head, she was always dragged along with us. So of course it led to the Orton family being used to expecting the three of us together most of the time.

"No, she has a work obligation" Brie smiled and I knew my wife well enough to know she was covering for her sister.

I never bothered questioning her as they were twins and had their fair share of their own secrets which I knew I would have to deal with. I would never want to get in between their sibling bond but her not being at Alanna's sixth birthday would cause quite a few Orton's to be disappointed.

Because of my life spent with Brie, Nicole being single pretty much led to her following us around everywhere. Sometimes it could be a bit of an inconvenience but with my schedule getting busier it put my mind at ease knowing that Nicole would stay at our house. But it also caused a bit of confusion when she was dragged to close knit family events that Brie got taken to, being my wife.

With Randy's parents believing that Nicole and him were something more than they actually were and her mother and Johnny believing the same. They didn't do much to make them think otherwise over the past year. With her getting annoyed with him and then having conversations soon after, they gave off the weird couple vibe which led to many assumptions. And his parents being fond of her only fueled Randy's current taking to Nicole.

"Where is Nicole?" I whispered as we walked further into the house, knowing that my best friend would soon be asking me the very same question.

"I just sai.." She stopped and smiled as I did, knowing she got caught out.

"Don't give me that look Johnathan!" She giggled and I smiled brighter at the sound and wrapped my arm around her and kissed her cheek.

"Come on spill, Brianna!"

Maybe I was being biased considering I was in love with her but her laugh was one of the best. Actually the best...

"That's what she told me. I would like to say I know she will be here but I don't." She sighed seeming slightly irritated as she did.

"Has this got anything to do with the guy in Cali that no one knows about?" I raised my eyebrow while I still doubted that Nicole had a significant other with the amount of time she spent with us.

"She has her own life, John. She is a grown woman and even though I don't approve of all her decisions I have to respect them. If she chooses to let Ally down today she has to live with that" She said firmly which meant they had most likely had an argument over the very issue.

I found it best not to give my opinion because in the end they would work through it. After a month of sibling rivalry, maybe I would step in but it hadn't gotten that far before..

"Its actually not Ally who I am most concerned about her letting down.." I whispered as I heard the kitchen door opening.

"Finally, you guys made it. I advise you not to head outside yet, unless you want a headache. Were we this crazy when we were their age? I don't know but I'm dying out there"

I chuckled as I hugged him, clearly happy to see people he preferred instead of the family who tended to fuss over you because you were always away. And in his case when he would be settling down because 'while being a good dad was all well, they did worry about him being lonely once she left'.

"When are you doing the cake?" Brie questioned as I peeked out of the window, seeing all of the cousins running around with her.

"Well I figured about an hour before we have to leave. Nicole should be here by then?" He glanced between us and I didn't want to look over at my wife so I simply shrugged.

"Brie, I want you to meet Aunt Mabel" I heard Elaine and my wife was saved by his mom and I felt Randy's eyes on me.

"You understand how busy we are. Its Battleground she..." I began not really having any real explanation but not wanting to admit she wouldn't be here.

"Nah man, you know Nicole, despite what people think of her she tends to arrive early for my little girl. So her not being here with you guys? Its this fucking guy she has.." He gave a frustrated sigh.

"I doubt there is a guy to be honest with you" I shrugged, we all knew how Nicole could be while being in a relationship and she showed absolutely no sign. She hadn't even mentioned a name or an experience, it didn't make sense.

"Oh there is a guy alright.." He shook his head and walked past me, grabbing a beer for both of us.

"You seem very certain" I frowned, not sure how he would know as he handed me one.

"Because I am..." I knew his mind was wandering and I needed to get him focused on me before he dwelled on it.

"And how do you know this?"

"Because its Colby..." He shrugged, glancing at me before taking a huge gulp of his beer.

"Colby as in Seth at work?" There had to be a mistake, I knew he had become close to Nicole but I didn't really see any signs there.

"Yeah the fucking idiot comes into The Authority, takes the top spot and now he fucking takes Nicole as well" He scoffed.

I knew he was a bit envious of Seth, he was quite close to Dave and he believed as soon as the writers saw an opening for the end of The Shield they didn't fight to keep him around. I guess I agreed but Dave was doing good now and we all kept in touch. We all started out together so we had quite a close bond whether he was around all the time or not...

But now with Seth becoming closer to Hunter, he was taking the place Randy once held as the younger charismatic one in the group.

"What makes you think that?" I had to be calm and not seem too eager to agree or he would go ahead and do something stupid.

"He's the only guy I have seen her quite a few times with. He drags her bags around and ruins every fucking opportunity I get with her and I see that look in her eyes of brief regret. It kills a guy but I know its him, if he wasn't there..."

I wasn't sure when he had become the guy who believed Nicole could do no wrong but shifting the blame onto an innocent party wouldn't end well.

"I don't think so, you should give it more thought." I raised my eyebrow and he stared at me and then set down his beer.

"Maybe I should just say fuck it, you know? I'm trying to win a losing battle. She doesn't want me, I know I'm being a bit crazy when it comes to her and I am obsessed with the idea of us being something. But I have a failed marriage so maybe I'm just destined to have Alanna. Which I am fine with, it would have been nice if I added Nicole into that but sometimes..."

"Does this doorbell not work anymore?" I heard her voice before the door swung open and followed his eyes, and well smile, to the doorway as she hung up her jacket.

"Why are guys sitting here?" She breath glancing between us, not shooting an annoyed look his way.

I knew she was trying to be nicer since she was at his parents' house but they would soon be getting it on.

"Catching up before tonight." I shrugged since Randy hadn't bothered speaking yet.

"Oh where your friendship will be tested" Nicole smiled as I would be defending my title against Randy and two other men.

"Maybe we will end up breaking in two titles, Garcia?"

I rolled my eyes at my best friend having given up all hope before and after a moment of silence he was back at it.

"I'll get a sledgehammer and do the honours for you" She smiled and moved past him into the kitchen and we followed.

"Mmmm why get a sledgehammer when you have a snake waiting for you"

I tried not to chuckle as he held her from behind and she pushed him away.

"Randy one night, one non-memorable night which doesn't need to repeat itself."

The night where she slowly turned my best friend into a Predator who only decided he wanted his Prey now..

"Okay where's Alanna?" She smiled moving past him to the outside.

"So you were saying what Randall?" I nudged him.

"Saying I'm happy that she is here" He chuckled, "Come on... I'm irresistible how could she stay away?"

***

"I love you more than anything" She whispered into my lips as she sat on my lap.

"Mmm more than Josie?" I teased.

"I love you equally" She shrugged before giggling and we glanced over at the noise where Nicole was attempting to play some soccer with the girls.

Of course Alanna 'accidentally' kicked the ball over to where Randy stood with his dad.

He kicked it over to Nicole and winked at her and she simply laughed and went back to the kids.

"So what happened before my sister came and made him the happiest man around?"

"You do not want to know" I chuckled not wanting to get into his Seth idea.

She slowly nodded but then sighed.

"So Nicole mentioned that some of the diva's were getting frisky with you. You would tell me if there was someone trying to steal my husband away right?" She smiled sweetly but with a threat of castrating my balls if it were to ever cross my mind.

I chuckled and kissed her cheek, "No one gets near this except you. Your sister has a way of exaggerating you know?"

I was a well known man within the wrestling business and I did try to be friendly and treat everyone with the same respect I would want. So if a few divas decided they wanted to greet I would flash a smile and walk on. Only, some of them would try and get stories into the head so they could fit in with the others. Mostly rookies and while Brie mostly kept to me when I was at work, Nicole would be roaming the hallways with the various divas. Hearing all the locker room gossip.

I would never think of being with another woman. One could say that Brie had been the exception and the fact that she wasn't working for the company at the time I made my move should have proved to her that my baby blue eyes only stared at her.

"I know. I just wanted you to know that I know so if you see someone getting to close and if it get backs to me. The claws will be coming out" She winked and I didn't doubt it.

My wife even though being the more timid out of the twins wouldn't hesitate in being cold to someone who mistreated her while Nicole happened to be the opposite. Yes she shot Randy the annoying looks and shrugged him off but he knew deep down she probably did have a soft spot for him and that was what kept him going.

"What have you been telling your family?" Brie questioned before I could respond and I realized Randy had come over to us.

"What do you mean?" He frowned.

"They were asking how you and Nicole were doing as in a couple?"

"I guess they can sense the love between us?" He shrugged before his mom called him over as Nicole took a picture with Alanna.

"They would make a cute family" I admitted watching them together, knowing his parents had just been fooling around when they asked her.

"Maybe if my sister figured herself out before jumping into messy situations..."

"What messy situations?"

She shook her head and smashed her lips onto mine to silence me.

"Did you see how happy Alanna was when she saw Nicole next to me?" He smiled as I drove us over to the arena with the twins staying behind seeing that they weren't scheduled for the PPV.

I knew Randy liked the idea because all he saw was Nicole spending more time with his family.

"Yes I did. I saw how her bipolar dad turned into a Joker smiling all around the moment Nicole walked through the door too."

"I don't go around pointing out how you look at Brie" He scoffed even though a small smile formed.

"Well she is my wife who I am in love with so.." I frowned as Brie's words came to mind the night Nicole had taken care of Randy.

"Do you love her after one night, that can't be true, right?" I briefly glanced at him while he simply focused ahead.

"Randall."

"I don't know okay? "

He let out a frustrated sigh and ran his hand over his face.

"All I know is I want to be with her at any cost. I don't know if I love her but I do know I need her..."
