Chapter 4

The performers began grabbing several humans and Faunus out of the audience to participate in the competition to see who would be the festival king.

Ugine saw Jenni look right at him, "come on up here." She grabbed his hand and pulled him onto the stage.

Sun began looking at the contestants, "hmm too tall, too short, too hairy, I'm sorry just no-" suddenly he stopped at Ugine, "you boy." He removed the young man's hood showing his fox Faunus ears to the crowd, "you're perfect."

Ugine was stunned, "what?"

Jenni smiled widely, "he said you're a perfect fit. You're our festival king!"

Ugine felt himself smile, these people weren't treating him horribly at all...they liked him!

He was suddenly carried by a large group of people to a throne that was sitting in the very center of town. Everyone seemed excited, well almost everyone. Roman was sitting in his seat seething.

"Ugine....."

"Do you know that boy sir?" Adam asked.

"I do indeed, Captain I need you to remove that boy from the throne now and bring him to me!"

The captain was confused, "what?"

Roman rolled his eyes and turned to his personal guards, "all of you! Show that boy that he has no place here!"

"How are we supposed to do that Judge Torchwick?" Lt. Winchester asked.

"I don't know just do it now!"

One of the soldiers looked toward a cart of tomatoes, "I have an idea..."

Ugine couldn't have felt happier sitting up there in front of everyone. The townspeople were cheering his name and throwing flowers and placing beads around his neck.

"Hail to the king!" Someone shouted and Ugine felt something hit his face with a wet smack.

He touched his left cheek to find it stained with tomato juice.

The soldiers began pelting him with tomatoes and other kinds of fruit. Ugine tried to run away but Lt Thrush snuck up behind him and put a rope around his neck. When the Faunus tried to move this time he began to choke. Seeing this the villagers happy laughter turned into mocking jeers. Ugine felt humiliated and it only increased when he felt more ropes begin to tie him down. When he moved the ropes cut into his flesh.

Roman laughed to himself, "perfect."

Except Adam was not happy watching this, "sir call this off now! That boy he's-"

"Wait Captain. Let him take his punishment." the judge said holding his hand up to silence the man.

"Master Torchwick! Please help me!" Ugine cried out.

But the cruel judge just turned away.

"THATS ENOUGH!" A voice rang out.

Everyone turned to see Jenni making her way toward the crowd and up to Ugine. But Ugine didn't look at her and a few tears ran down his face.

The wolf Faunus saw that his arm was bleeding so she used her skirt to clean up the wound a bit.

"Go away...." Ugine said almost inaudibly.

Roman then stood up from his seat, "You! Faunus girl! Get away from there now!"

"I will your honor. But I have to free him first."

"I forbid it!" The judge yelled.

But Jenni ignored him, she quickly untied the ropes.

"How dare you!" Roman spat.

Jenni began to get angry, "you mistreat this boy and every other Faunus in this city. He asked for your help and still you did nothing! You speak of justice and I have seen none!" She removed the crown from Ugine's head, "I'm sorry to say everyone but if this crown is meant for the most foolish person in town then it appears we crowned the wrong king. Because the only fool I see is him!" She threw the crown at Roman's feet.

Roman was shaking with rage, "You're asking for the ultimate punishment girl!"

Turning to Adam he added, "Captain Taurus arrest her!"

Adam fought the urge to roll his eyes as he snapped his fingers signaling the soldiers to grab Jenni.

Jenni however remained unfazed as they circled her, "Hmm let's see there are...ten of you and one of me? Whatever shall I do? Oh I know!"

She pulled a ball out of her skirt pocket and threw it on the ground where it promptly released a cloud of purple smoke masking her getaway.

The soldiers looked around furiously trying to find where she had gone.

"Yoo-hoo!" Jenni called. She was standing on a roof and she blew the soldiers a kiss before tumbling backwards behind the building.

"After her!" One man shouted as the soldiers gave chase on their horses.

Ugine climbed down from his throne and made his way over Roman, "Master I-"

The judge cut him off, "Let's go home Ugine,"

Ugine nodded sadly and went inside the church

Meanwhile after giving the soldiers the slip for nearly two hours Jenni found that she had just gone in a big circle. She was back at the cathedral.

Jenni growled loudly, "Son of a bi-"

"Careful we're at church," a voice said

Jenni turned to see Adam leaning against the door, "you...."

"Calm down I'm not gonna hurt-"

But Jenni cut him off with a swift kick below the belt.

Adam doubled over in pain, "ok I deserve that. But you should know a kick to the scrotum is unforgivable."

The girl put a hand on her hip, "well then add that to the list of sins I'm apparently guilty of."

She pushed past him and went inside.

"So umm your name is Jenni?" Adam asked.

"Jennifer. Only my friends can call me Jenni."

"Uh huh so do you have any friends?"

Jenni gave him a look.

"Ok not funny I get it. My name is Adam."

"Pleasure to meet you captain," the wolf Faunus said with a mock bow, "So what are you gonna arrest me?"

"No," Adam said, "in here I can't. I wanted to find you to apologize."

Jenni sighed, "fine whatever."

Adam got closer, "you know your dance today, you were beautiful, Umm I mean...the dance the dance was beautiful."

The silver haired girl rolled her eyes, "You're flattery will get you nowhere."

"It's called a compliment," the captain said, "and I meant it."

Jenni was stunned and she felt her face heat up slightly.

She opened her mouth to ask him something when the door banged open.

"Good job captain, now arrest her," Roman snapped.

"Claim sanctuary," Adam whispered.

"What?" Jenni asked.

"Claim sanctuary! Now!"

"You tricked me...."

"Captain Taurus I'm waiting," Roman said annoyed.

"I can't arrest her sir. She claimed sanctuary," Adam said backing away from the young woman.

Except Roman wasn't convinced, "then drag her outside you idiot!"

"Roman!" Arch Deacon Ozpin shouted as he made his way over to the small group, "you won't touch her."

He patted Jenni's hand, "don't worry you're safe here."

Roman scoffed and walked away but as soon as the older man had left he grabbed Jenni around the waist.

"Listen here you Faunus wretch. You may think that you outwitted me but I can wait all night if I have to. You'll want to leave sometime."

Jenni felt him sniff her hair and his hands began to gravitate lower.

"What are you doing?!" Jenni snapped.

"Nothing. Just imagining a rope around your beautiful neck."

Jenni was horrified and she pulled out of the man's embrace.

"I know what you were imagining you disgusting man!"

Roman pretended to look appalled, "just like your kind to try and cloud my mind with unholy thoughts."

He began to walk away, "you know you've chosen a wonderful place to be your prison. Just keep in mind that if you leave then you're mine!"

With that he slammed the door behind him.

Jenni ran after him but when she opened the door the saw the soldiers positioned at every exit. She was trapped.

Her pet fox nudged her bare foot.

"Don't worry Trixi I'll find a way to get us out of here," the wolf girl told the animal.

"I wouldn't provoke the judge's anger anymore then you already have," Ozpin said walking back over to her. "You caused quite a stir at the festival today."

Jenni crossed her arms, "I couldn't let him keep torturing that poor boy. I had to help I wanted to be the one stand up for someone. What does that judge have against us Faunus anyway?!"

Ozpin put a hand on her shoulder, "I wish I knew child. But you can't right all the wrongs of the world yourself."

"But if I don't who will?!"

The arch deacon led her to the very front of the church where there was a giant stain glass of the gods of light and dark. "Perhaps someone in here."

He then left her alone.

Jenni looked around at all the other people who were on their knees praying for things such as wealth or beauty. One woman was even praying for her dead husband to be returned to life.

"They don't understand how lucky they are," the wolf girl muttered. "I want to do something to help my people."

I don't know if you can hear me or if you're even there. I don't know if you would listen to my prayer.

What she didn't realize was that Ugine was watching her. He had heard her voice from upstairs and had come down to investigate.

However he was only standing there for a second before someone noticed him.

"Hey it's the boy from earlier!"

Jenni turned and saw Ugine and as the fox Faunus made his way back to the bell tower the girl followed determined to talk to him once more.
