The Fault in "The Fault in Our Stars"

It was great. Yes, amazing. I almost cried (I didn't, but I came reeeeally close) and I don't cry over much (I cried over a fanfiction twice, but that's besides the point and it was a really crushing Luke Castellan x OC fanfic). I don't even cry when people die. Yeah, I'm that heartless.

Back to TFiOS.

Yeah, it was great, but what else was it? The entire book was centered around a metaphor and metaphors in general. I think the book itself was a metaphor for what well-done borderline-clićhe teen fiction-tragic romance books should be but aren't. Really, it was touching and heart-rending but once you get over it, it's just another teen romance novel, and god knows we have enough of those.

I'm being a total hypocrite here, I'm sorry; trust me, I love teen romance just as much as the next person and I even have like eight unfinished ones in My Works, but they are unfinished because they are too clićhe to do anything more with.

TFiOS sparked a revolution of metaphor-centered, minimalistic, less-borderline-and-more-just-pathetically-clićhe teen fiction-tragic romance novels. Don't get me wrong, there are some fantabulous books out there, but Wattpad is filled with what is basically clone books, partially because of TFiOS.

Again, I'm coming off as a total bitch, and I loved TFiOS, but, like Divergent, I had high expectations for the book due to all the hype and it fell a little short.

Is anyone else a little disappointed with a book that is über popular but really didn't meet your expectations? (I was worried about being judged for this, but have come to the conclusion that I don't give a shit.)

That is all.
