Chapter 7
"Diana, wake up!" A hand jerked her shoulder roughly, shaking her. "Get your butt out of bed, you can't sleep all day!"
Diana mumbled something incoherent and rolled over, pulling a pillow over her face. "Go away." She moaned loudly. "I need my beauty sleep."
"Oh, please. I'd have gotten hot a long time ago if that really existed." Perrin laughed. "But seriously, Di, get up!"
"Never. My life is over. Jason doesn't remember me. I broke my leg. I'm a hopeless cause." Diana wallowed in her self-pity.
"Oh would you shut up!" Perrin grabbed the edge of Diana's comforter and yanked hard.
"Ow! Perrin! Stop! Stop! My leg!"
Perrin released her vicious grip on the covers, while Diana untangled them from her injured leg. She shot her best friend a glare. "You are so evil. That really hurt."
"I'm sorry, but it wouldn't have happened if you hadn't decided that lounging around in your bed would be a better alternative than sticking to your original plan."
"My plan?"
"Yeah, the one you have laying on your bedside table."
Diana's eyes widened in shock and she reached for her notebook, but Perrin was faster and held it out of her reach. "Perrin! Give me my notebook. NOW." Diana's voice held a warning tone. She had written down a very precise plan the night before about how she was going to go about talking to Christine, and what questions to ask, etc. It was very personal and it hadn't been intended for other eyes.
"Let's see...step one. Drive to Jason's house." Perrin began reading off her list.
"Perrin! Give it back!" Diana had managed to get out of bed, and was stumbling around, trying to get her plan back, but Perrin held it high above her reach.
"What's the magic word?" Teasing, Perrin lowered the book. "Ah, ah. What's the word?"
"Please." Diana finally spat out. She was fed up with Perrin's current antics. She wasn't sure what had gotten into her. Maybe she was just tired, or maybe she was heartbroken because the boy she liked and she thought liked her back, had a girlfriend.
She snatched the notebook away with more force than she meant to, causing Perrin to back up slowly. "I'm gonna go." She motioned towards the door, finally realizing that she had overstepped her boundaries.
As the door closed behind her, Diana collapsed back on her bed, gasping in exasperation. She knew there was something important today that she was supposed to remember but couldn't. That's when she saw her Halloween costume draped across the back of her gray, swivel chair.
Halloween. Halloween was today. She had gone with Perrin weeks ago to get that costume and now she knew there was no way she could wear it because of her cast. A vampire with a cast? Really?

Standing on the porch, her courage started to falter. The wind had picked up and was sending clusters of crackling, brown leaves skittering across the yard. She had never been to Jason's home before, and as it turned out, he lived in one of the cheap apartment complexes on the west side of town.
The blue siding hadn't been painted in years, and was chipping badly in more than a few places. The wooden floorboards beneath her feet creaked eerily as she tried to rest most of her weight on her good leg. The day had started out so cold that she could see her breath in front of her, and it had warmed up only slightly.
Sighing, Diana knocked again, shoving her hands back into her pockets to keep them warm, she waited impatiently for the person she knew was home, to answer. Loud laughter resounded from within, and the door was finally opened. Ice-blue eyes met hers and her heart ached. "Hey." She mumbled softly.
"Hey, Diana. Come on in."Jason opened the door wider and closed it behind her once she was inside. The inside of the apartment was much different from how it had looked from the outside. Instead of being drab and dingy like she had expected, it was clean and well-decorated. The walls were painted a dark gray and a black guitar hung on the wall. A couple of chairs were scattered around the living area. But what caught Diana's attention was the small, blonde perched in a chair close to the TV.
"Diana!" She leaped from her chair like they'd been best friends since third grade and enveloped her in a crushing hug. Diana stood there awkwardly. When Christine realized she wasn't going to get a hug back, she stepped away and gave Diana a once-over. "So how's the leg doing?"
"Fine." Diana bit out.
Christine raised an eyebrow, seeming to notice the tension. "Hey, babe. Why don't you get us something to drink?" She smiled sweetly at Jason. He nodded briefly and went into the next room.
"Do you have a problem?" Christine asked. "Or are you always this rude?"
"Oh, I'm sorry. I'm not the fake girlfriend that Jason just happened to forget to mention."
Christine's face paled. "How do you know about that?" She demanded, her voice lowering to a whisper. "Who told you? Stupid doctor-patient confiden..."
"What?" Diana blurted, unable to determine what Christine was saying due to her mumbling.
"Look, it wasn't my idea. The doctor said it would be best for him. I just..."
"What the hell are you talking about?!" Diana hissed.
"Shh..not here." She turned her head around and then ducked down the hallway into another room, dragging Diana with her. It was Jason's bedroom.
"I came back to see Jason when I heard he was in an accident. I'm his ex-girlfriend. When he saw me I guess he jumbled some old memories with his current ones, and he thought I was his girlfriend. The doctor told me to pretend to be, in order to give him back a little normalcy." Christine whispered, leaning her head back against the door.
"So the doctor wanted you to lie to him?"
"I guess you could say that. What confuses me though is why you care so much. Are you his real girlfriend?" Christine crossed her arms over her chest.
"N-no, of course not!" Diana stuttered.
"Then why do you care?"
When Diana remained silent, Christine seemed to understand. "You like him, don't you?"
Shifting towards the door, Diana mumbled, "I gotta go."
She was halfway through the door when she seemed to remember something. "Say bye to Jason for me." And with that, she was gone.

Hey guys! So what do you think of Christine now? Do you think what the doctor told Christine to do was the right thing to do? Oh, and what do you think of Diana's changed behavior? This next chapter should be pretty exciting, and I'm looking forward to writing it. Please don't forget to comment and vote! I really appreciate everything you guys do for me! :)
