Chapter 10
Diana rolled over, or at least she tried to. Something was holding her back. Pushing and shoving her body in the direction she was trying to go, she realized it was of no use. Grumbling under her breath, she opened her eyes.
Staring back at her were a pair of sky-blue eyes. Diana let out a startled yelp, surprising Jason, who loosened his hold on her. She leaped backwards and fell off the bed. "Diana! Are you alright?" Jason asked in a panicked tone. His voice was deep and husky from sleep. It was incredibly sexy.
But Diana had more important things to worry about. Like the fact that her butt was really sore from landing on it so hard. That, and she was worried that she had re-broken her leg. "What time is it?" Diana fished her phone out of her pocket to answer her own question. The battery was almost dead.
She had six missed calls and voice mails from Perrin. "Oh, shoot." She mumbled, hitting the auto dial and waiting for her best friend to answer. "Hello?"
"Oh my gosh, Diana! Are you okay? You never came home last night, you had me worried sick! Why didn't you call? Where are you?" Diana winced and held the phone a few inches from her ear as Perrin proceeded to ramble on frantically.
"Would you relax. I'm at Jason's place."
"Jason's?! Did you two hook up? I swear Diana this can only end up for the worst. Please tell me you guys at least used prote.."
"Oh my gosh would you SHUT UP. We did not hook up up! Geez, Perrin." Diana couldn't actually believe that her friend had just suggested that. She would have been even more convincing in her argument had Jason not been in the room. Diana didn't really want to hurt his feelings any more at this point.
"Oh thank God. I mean kids are cute and all, and his genes would have created the most angelic babies. But I'm just not ready to be an auntie yet. I mean all babies do is poop and cry a...." Perrin continued to spout complete and utter nonsense while Diana just sat there trying to process the information she was receiving. She could make neither heads nor tails of it.
"You know what." Diana interrupted. "I'm gonna talk to you later, when I get back."
With that, she ended the call.
Jason was staring at her from the bed, his eyes full of confusion. "What was that all about?"
"Don't mind Perrin. She can be a bit bizarre at times."
"She thought we..we um.." Jason got an uncomfortable look on his face.
Diana's eyes grew wide. "Please pretend you never heard that. We will never speak of that again."
Pushing herself up from the floor, she straightened her clothes; running her hands over them in an attempt to smooth out the wrinkles.
"I should get going." She blurted suddenly.
"Yeah." Jason added, for lack of anything else to say.
As Diana walked back out to her car, a million different things were swirling together in her brain. Was any of that real? Had she really spent the night at Jason's? They had cuddled...he had freaking kissed her forehead! Her heart fluttered at the thought.
Maybe she had a chance with Jason again. They'd just have to build new memories.

As she made her way down the hallway she felt several pairs of eyes watching her. She hadn't been back to school since the accident. "Hey." A deep voice said from beside her. Diana paused, balancing awkwardly on her crutches as she turned to see who had spoken to her. Man she couldn't wait to be done with these crutches.
What she saw, wasn't what she was expecting. A tall redhead, with freckles and glasses was smiling at her. "Diana, right?"
Diana shivered unconsciously. How did he know her name? She chuckled nervously. "That's me." She didn't recognize him from anywhere. He wore a black polo shirt and jeans.
"I heard about the accident."
Oh right, the accident. That must be how he knew.
When she didn't respond, he continued talking. "I'm Matt. Anyways, I just wanted to check up and see how you're doing." He scuffed his shoe against the floor nervously, and scratched the back of his neck.
"Oh, uhh I'm doing fine." Diana smiled to try to prove her point.
"That's good." Matt seemed to want to mentally face palm as soon as the words left his lips. "I-If you e-ever n-need anything. Be sure to c-call me." He stuttered, his face growing red. Shoving a piece of paper into her hand, walked in the opposite direction that he had come from.
For a moment, Diana didn't move. Had that really just happened? She glanced down at the paper in her hand. His name and phone number was scrawled across it in surprisingly neat penmanship.
Shoving it into her bag, she continued on to her class.

Although she could have taken more time for medical leave, Diana was determined to get back to her normal routine as soon as possible. Brains Over Beauty, the local bookstore where she worked, was a small place, but extremely popular.
The bell on the door jingled to announce her presence. Samantha; a young brunette at the cash register glanced up, her green eyes lighting up with recognition. "Diana!" She exclaimed. "What are you doing back so soon?"
"Ahh you know how it goes. I just couldn't stay away from this place." Diana flashed her co-worker a knowing smile, and set her purse on a shelf under the counter. "Have you seen Jerry?"
Jerry was the owner of the store, and thus, Samantha and Diana's boss. "Yeah, I think he's in the back."
"Thanks." Diana made her way to the rear of the store. She still wasn't sure how she was going to be able to keep up today with her crutches slowing her down immensely. Knocking on the office door, she waited. A minute later it was opened by a man in his early forties. His dark hair was already showing signs of gray.
He appeared confused until he caught sight of Diana. "You're back!"
Laughing softly, Diana nodded. "Couldn't keep me away." She teased.
"The doctor said it was alright?"
Fishing the note out of her back pocket, she handed it to him. His eyes scanned the page briefly, and then he refolded it. "Tell Sam she can go on break. You can take her place."
Perched on her stool in front of the register, Diana surveyed the shop. It had been thirty minutes, and only three customers had come into the store. She guessed this was because it was almost closing time.
Within the next hour she was on her way out to her car, when she thought she heard footsteps behind her. Whirling around, she saw no one. Figuring she was probably just paranoid, she opened her purse and began to search for her keys. Two seconds later, she was shoved hard against the side of her car. Caught off guard and knocked off balance, she slid to the ground. Strong hands held a sweet smelling cloth over her nose and mouth.
She struggled, her hands tugging at the material. Her vision began to blur. In one final effort, she managed to dig her nails into the arm of her assailant, and then she lost complete consciousness.
