☆Chapter 19☆
"I LOVE THE WAY YOU FALL ASLEEP
IN MY ARMS AND WAKEUP IN MY DREAM
SOMEWHERE FAR BETWEEN
MY HUNDRED DIFFERENT STARS,
WANDER THROUGH MY MILKY WAY,
COLLECT STARDUST TO FILL UP THE EMPTY SPACES
AROUND YOUR HEART."
To some people, a library is their dreamland.
It's like an enchanting world where they can escape from their realities and immerse themselves in the beauty of literature. Almost like a home to every book lover.
Therefore, it wasn't hard to assume the library was like a home to Yoon Min as well. Her love for books had a healing effect on her. She found solace in stories that were nothing like her own, stories that hinted at a happy ending, which she hadn't found yet.
Seokjin didn't remember the last time he was inside a library. He had fewer memories of being in a library as a student as his hobby was never reading or studying. He didn't imagine he would have to step inside a library one day and sit there for hours, not for himself; but for his bibliophile friend.
It was his first time discovering a library could be based over hundreds of acres. The shelves were unbelievably too high with millions of books on different genres and languages. The library was brimming with people of all ages, nerds walked around confidently as if they owned this place. People who want to learn has a special aura around them. They come here solely to learn, and this simple fact fascinated him more than it should have.
It would be a lie to admit he was also reading. He only picked a book to blend among the readers but he didn't even finish the first page. Mostly his focus was on the surroundings of the library. Actually, that was also a lie. In all honesty, his eyes were secretly focused on the girl sitting beside him, silently reading a book with earphones plugged inside her ears.
People like Yoon Min...were they real? Her heart had fought wars and somehow made her survive this far. It had been shattered, it had cried an ocean of tears, and it had a horrible past buried deep inside. Still, her heart was brimmed with faith and compassion, built for love, trying its best to heal.
She was different; strange was the feeling when he looked into her eyes. He often wondered if that's how angels lived. Though she would always deny it and say she's just a human. But do humans talk like her? See the world the way she does?
After all these few months, he learned some things about her which made him grow fond of her. She liked books, she liked Kpop and Kdramas, she liked astronomy, she liked winter, she liked to eat and smile. Her intentions were good and her heart was pure. She loved everything she had got and she was grateful to God. A personality so unlike his managed to steal his heart under his breath.
It was funny how their strings pulled their bodies closer to each other from worlds apart. He couldn't believe that her presence had started to make a significant impact on his life. He didn't want to admit that his mental health had somehow improved when she was with him, as he was unsure why it was happening, or why she had that power over him.
"Where did Love first begin?"
Yoon Min whispered out a line from her book.
"What human being looked at another and saw in their face the forests and the sea? Was there a day, exhausted and weary, dragging home food, arms cut and scarred, that you saw yellow flowers and, not knowing what you did, picked them because I love you?"
Placing her book down, she glanced at him and shifted her eyes to his book. "What are you reading?"
Before he could hide his book, she lifted the cover to read the title. "Where The Crawdads Sings, good choice. It's pretty interesting."
What she didn't know was that Seokjin picked out this book after hours of searching the shelves boringly. She had no idea he was glancing at her secretly all this time and wondering about those unexplainable thoughts.
A lovely afternoon settled behind them. The calming air washed over the beautiful readers whose soul was locked with the words of their books. She got back to reading and Seokjin was left with his thoughts again. He let out a big exhale and closed the book. It made her glance at him again and realized he was bored.
So she took out one of her earbuds and offered it to him. Although he shook his head to decline, she insisted again so he took it and plugged it inside his ear. Since it was an earphone, the wire didn't let them sit apart so he had to move closer to her. Gradually his cheeks warmed and his heart picked up its pace.
He hoped she wasn't uncomfortable by their proximity. It seemed like she wasn't. She showed him a gentle smile before going back to reading. Seokjin smiled and closed his eyes. He heard the song playing through the wires, 'August' by Taylor Swift. It was perfect for that moment. Sharing an earphone with her was a new experience, heart-fluttering and peaceful.
At one point, he wanted to lean on her shoulder but he controlled himself. There were some lines he should never cross as a man and as an idol.
From sitting close to each other sharing earphones, with butterflies kissing their hearts to chasing one another amongst the thousand bookshelves, they didn't know what any next moment stored for them. Who had known they would start to play hide and seek around the shelves? With her, he could think and do the weirdest thing on earth, guilt-free.
Seokjin was seeking and Yoon Min was hiding. The game started when he suddenly mentioned any person could get lost in this grand library. She took his words seriously and challenged him to find her while she hid.
However, he used to be an expert in a few certain games which was why, he easily found her. Her reaction made it obvious that she wasn't used to losing. She crossed her arms and huffed.
"It's not fair!"
"Stop whining. Now I should think of your penalty," he smirked.
She stared at him. "We never agreed on that."
"Hey, the loser always has a penalty."
She rolled her eyes. "Fine! Let me hear what great penalty you have for me!"
He came up with the perfect torture for her. "You'll sing."
She gasped in shock and covered her mouth dramatically. "No way! I told you I have a bad voice."
"That's your penalty. You can't call it off."
His shrewd decisions made her laugh sarcastically, almost like a villain. Was this always in his head? To hear her sing? Maybe.
"I'm not gonna sing."
"Excuse me?"
"Can't you think of something else, Jin-ssi? Please? I can tap-dance if you want!"
"No."
"I can treat you to dinner?"
"Nope."
"Oh, I can-"
He shook his head. "What to do...you'll have to sing, Yoon Min."
She growled in frustration and stomped her feet on the ground. Pointing her finger at his face, she hissed in anger, "Okay, I will sing! But you'll have to promise you won't laugh."
The way she looked like a spoiled teenager made him chuckle already. She was so cute.
"Jin-ssi!"
"Sorry. Alright, I won't laugh."
Yoon Min was convinced then as she looked away embarrassedly. Slowly her embarrassed lips curved up into a clever smirk as she looked at him again. Something about her devilish smile made him rethink his decision. What was she planning now?
"Remember, you asked for this."
Suddenly he didn't want to hear her sing anymore.
