☆Chapter 10☆

"WE ARE ALL MADE OF STARDUST, RIGHT?
WE ARE REMNANTS OF OLD STARS."

"How are you feeling?" Yoon Min asked with her doe eyes.

Seokjin could not reply. Fingers continuously grabbing at each other and holding his breath, he tried not to seem nervous or panicked. But he knew he shouldn't be out here at a time like this, not with her.

He had been following her advice and took the sleeping pills in low doses. It helped him to sleep okay, but not much. Then he realized he had been sleeping too much all these years due to the effects of the meds. Nowadays he slept almost 6 hours which is normal according to people.

As much as he craved the pills, he cared more about his old life. He couldn't be a sleepaholic if he wanted to be BTS Jin again. So he was determined to get off the meds but he wasn't certain if he could live without them. Without the pill's help, he was unsure about his sleeping schedule.

That's why, he didn't want to take a risk. Yoon Min told him not to take any pills for one day and try to sleep on his own. That day was today.

She dragged him to an open, lonely field when it was almost 8 p.m. There weren't many people around, even if there were, they were doing their own business. She placed a mattress on the ground and pulled him to sit with her. Under the vast dark sky with little stars shining, he still hadn't figured out why she was doing this. The doctor's order for him was to go to sleep before 8 p.m. with the help of pills, or else seizures might grasp him. Instead of doing that, he was outside, wide awake, with some girl who believed the stars would heal him.

These negative thoughts didn't let him sit still. There was no guarantee that night wouldn't repeat tonight. He might lose control of his brain and a seizure can attack him anytime. What if he went crazy right in front of her?

"Did I ever tell you how much I love the night sky?"

Her question broke his endless thoughts as he glanced at her face. No, she didn't. She never really told him about her likes and dislikes. It was always her past or her experiences. Though she talked about stars and the moon often.

So he shook his head.

"Back in those days, the night sky used to be my comfort zone."

He changed his gaze to the sky now. Was it beautiful? He never really noticed. He wasn't the type to fall in love with nature or books and poems. He rather thought life is meaningless if you fall in love with unreal things. So instead he used to believe in himself and find comfort from his loved ones.

However, after that incident, he didn't know whom to trust or find comfort anymore.

With a quick exhale, she continued, "Sometimes, believing in non-existent things such as all the magical delusions and fantasy tales can help you survive reality. The place where I grew up...it was never easy. I constantly had to be restrained from my own life and I had to watch painfully scary things. Whenever I was wronged or hurt, I wanted to escape from everything. Like a coward, I wanted to run away. Most of the time, your songs helped me to get better," she smiled.

"But sometimes the pain was too unbearable that almost nothing could console me. Neither your songs nor the thoughts of you. Because you guys were always so far away. I could never see you right in front of my eyes or even believe I would be able to meet you one day."

He wondered how the universe sheltered her then. He wasn't doubtful of BTS; they changed the lives of millions of young souls.

"That's why, I sought a place on my own, where I could be myself, love others and be loved, do anything I want and be the best of myself. One night, I looked up at the sky. It used to be pitch black everywhere but that night, stars were blinking at me. There was a giant silver moon and light grey clouds. For some reason, they comforted me and I found myself getting lost in their beauty. From that moment, I fell in love with the night sky and everything that lived inside it."

Seokjin knew it was her magic that she found love in everything she collected. Like the seashells on the beach and the stars in her dream. She had eyes that saw colours in black and white and stole a rainbow from the cloudy sky. But he wasn't her. He couldn't be so hopeful as her even though she was a broken soul.

He sometimes wished he was her.

"Hey, let's choose two stars for ourselves!"

He almost wanted to scoff but with her starry eyes staring at him, he managed to hold himself from doing that. Instead, he just looked away with a sarcastic smile.

She pouted at his reaction. "Why? Stars are bright and beautiful, and most importantly, they are free. So why not have them?"

"What'll I do with a star?" He looked at her.

She shrugged her shoulders lightly and replied, "Stare at it? Love it?"

Of course with her wonderful heart, she could do that. But not him. He was different from her. He liked to be rational more.

She sighed and looked back at the sky. Once she did, he could take a good look at her face. Under the starlight, she looked different; prettier and nonhuman. If he wasn't realistic, he would proudly say her eyes had the most beautiful stars.

"Look at the stars, Jin-ssi. They are the same stars as last week and last year, same as when we were kids, even when we weren't even born," she pointed her finger at those stars.

"In a hundred years, no one will ever know who we were. No one will know our names or our dreams or our stories. But they'll definitely know these same stars. They'll also gaze at them and seek love, hope and courage from these stars. Maybe in the future, some might gift a star to another in the name of love."

Somehow, her words sounded heartstopping. His heart skipped a beat after hearing her way of explanation. Suddenly, he found himself unable to tear his gaze away from the sky unknowingly.

She continued, "Stars are a blessing. Not just because they light up the night for us. To some, they are a hope; to some, they are lovely to watch and to some, they are a guide. They help you remember that you and your problems are both infinitesimally small and that you're a piece of an amazing universe. This is why, we all should have a star of our own. Because no such object in the world can be as precious and priceless as a mere star."

Seokjin didn't realize how long he stared at the night sky without blinking. Those stars, they always were nothing but little lights in the sky to him. But to her, they were her biggest support. As if she trusted those lights to illuminate the dark paths of her life.

That's why maybe they say that two people will look at the same thing, but they will see two different things. Just like them. He considered the sky as nothing. But she saw it as her comfort zone and escaped there to feel better.

He let out a breath and said, "Fine."

His answer cheered up the girl. She clapped her hands and looked back at the sky with exciting eyes.

"Okay! Let's see what star we can get you," Yoon Min began to scan the sky for a nice star. There weren't many stars tonight. Unfortunately, she chose a bad day for star selection.

"Your zodiac sign is Sagittarius, right? So how about the brightest star Epsilon Sagittarii? Its magnitude is 1.85. Or Delta Sagittarii? It's a K2 spectra star with magnitude 2.71 about 350 light years from Earth."

He stared at her with squinted eyebrows. "You even know those?"

She gave a cheeky grin in response.

The fact the stars had difficult names for him to pronounce made him lose motivation as he sulked his face. He then asked, "Which one is yours?"

She answered immediately, "Me? I actually love all the stars but since you ask, I am more fond of the stars of Gemini Constellation. I heard in Greek mythology, Castor and Pollux, the children of Zeus were twins. Pollux was immortal and Castor was mortal. But the twins were inseparable and lived as demigods.

"When Castor died, Pollux begged his father to give him mortality so that he could join his brother. And so he did, by uniting them together in the heavens," she finished up the story with a click of her tongue. "And that's how Castor and Pollux became the brightest stars in Gemini Constellation."

Seokjin firstly didn't want to hear the myth from her, but after hearing it, it would be a lie if he said he didn't enjoy the short legend.

Out of curiosity, he asked her, "Do they have any legend behind Sagittarius?"

"Of course, all constellations have myths and stories. In Greek mythology, Sagittarius is usually identified as a centaur: half human, half horse creature," she added after a pause. "Chiron, a kind, talented and gentle centaur was graced with immortality and he was free to work, study and heal. But after Hercules shot a venomous arrow at him accidentally, he knew he would have to live with this pain forever since he was immortal.

"In that state, he recalled of one such man named Prometheus who was cursed to have his heart eaten by an eagle every day, only to have it grow back to be eaten again. Out of great empathy, Chiron requested Zeus to take the place of Prometheus. Since he was already going to be in pain for eternity, he wanted to sacrifice himself for another's freedom.

"So Zeus freed Prometheus and granted Chiron a gift of even greater immortal status. He became the brightest star of Sagittarius Constellation."

The way her hands moved while describing the tales of myths and her exciting voice, he couldn't be more immersed in her world. Her world that loved the universe so dearly. Of course they were only myths. But hearing it from her, it was making him believe everything she said was true.

In myths, people really wanted to be remembered for eternity. So they all somehow ended up as stars in the sky, so that the world could look up at them and get to know their stories.

"So which star, Jin-ssi?" she asked again.

He frowned. "The names sound too hard. I already forgot what they are called."

The girl seemed to have no problem with what he said. She nodded her head in agreement. "I used to feel the same way too. But you know, I read a lot and now I know."

Flashing a grin, she told him, "Okay so why don't we select the simplest star you can find? Hmm..." she trailed off, gazing at the sky and suddenly pointed her finger to one specific star, "How about Sirius?"

Seokjin also raised his head and found the brightest star shining before him charmingly.

"It has an apparent magnitude of -1.46 and it's located in the alpha constellation Canis Major. It's also known as the brightest star of the sky."

Now that he saw this beautiful star in the sky, he had a faint smile spreading on his lips.

Sirius, the brightest star we can see with our naked eyes; could he call it his? Well, he called Moon his once and NASA didn't mind. Instead, they even gave the Moon to him. So he could select that one. It was beautiful and bright, and it had an easy name.

"I-I like it," He murmured with a tiny smile.

"Really? Then you got your star!" Yoon Min exclaimed happily and gave a pat on his shoulder.

He smiled more and told her softly. "You should choose one too," he couldn't be the only one with a star of his own.

The girl started thinking as she hummed in her thoughts and scanned the sky in search of a star for herself. A long time passed with her diving inside endless knowledge about stars and seeking one that was perfect.

Before she could decide for herself, he gave her the answer she was looking for in a quick matter of time.

"Choose that one."

She blinked at his action. "Procyon?"

To his defence, he added. "It's closer to mine."

He could feel her smile tightly pressed on her lips. He didn't think of meaning it in another way. But she gladly changed the topic.

"But the name is weird."

He flatly replied, watching the stars, "Just name it Yoon Min Star."

She glanced at his face and instead of being shy or surprised, she rather looked delighted by the nice thought.

"Wow, great idea! Then why don't we call Sirius as Jin Star? It sounds too good!"

He didn't mind. If he also could be remembered in the sky amongst a million stars like those people in myths, life would be worth living for. And she suggested so why not? So he gave a quick nod which made her so happy that she squealed like a mouse and giggled prettily.

He glanced at the two stars they just picked for themselves. They were indeed the brightest and most beautiful stars to him. Most importantly, his heart dwelled in peace thinking they were theirs to have.

And his star was standing with her star on the black canvas of a billion celestial objects. They were together even in the sky.

✦✧✧ - ✧✧✦

That night, Seokjin returned to his apartment at around 10 p.m. Following Yoon Min's words, he took a cool shower, drank water and put on his pajamas. For a cool environment, he turned on the AC and fixed the temperature. Then he closed the curtains of the balcony. Taking his phone, he searched for quiet, calming music for sleeping and put it on at a low volume. And finally, with eye covers on, he laid down on his bed and released an exhausting sigh.

Her final advice was not to think any negative thoughts, just to fill his head with nice memories and daydreams. But he couldn't help but think he didn't have a seizure tonight. He was so engaged with her tonight in an oddly beautiful topic that he didn't even remember he was supposed to get sick.

How was it possible?

For the first time, he started to believe, the more he stayed with her, the more she was keeping him safe unknowingly. When he was around her, he forgot about himself and only focused on her. It was as if she had the power to take away every bit of sadness out of his life.

With a tiny smile fluttering on his lips, he closed his eyes and replayed their time earlier under the stars. And between some seconds, he drifted off to a peaceful sleep.
