28-Dies irae, dies illa

[Location: Grimm castle]

... Silence. That's all there is in the meeting room as everyone is seated. Across the table, several of it's inhabitants are distraught in one way or the other. Emerald over what she believes to be the death of Cinder. Joshua over the loss of his left arm. Tyrian and the Father over the death of Salem.

After the events of last night the Father gathered the remains of his daughter and buried her somewhere that only he knows of, so that no one would dare defile her final resting place. After which he gathered everyone, including Joshua and Donn, to discuss their next course of action... No one has dared spoken up for the past minute.

Joshua:... "ahem"... My Lord I know that this is a very difficult time for all of us, but we need your guidance now more than ever.

You:...

As the Father simply sits in the seat that belonged to his daughter, he remains silent as he just stares off into space. Seated by his side, Velvet reaches out and takes hold of his hand, trying her best to comfort him. He looks over to the hand in his as she gently squeezes it.

You:... This was all meant for her.

Everyone snaps their attention to him as he finally speaks for the first time since last night.

You: As a father I wanted to give Salem everything, even the whole world, just to make her happy. I thought that if I pass on the legacy to her, I could finally put these weary bones to rest like my sons. But now...

Tyrian: "sigh" Then it truly is over.

The Father suddenly seaces movement from Tyrian's words. Velvet's ears start twitching before falling out of her chair and frantically making her way to the far side of the room away from the Father, her eyes glued to his form the whole time. The Father slowly turns his head to Tyrian as he stands up, the air around him getting colder. A feeling of dread suddenly washing over the scorpion faunus.

You: Over? My daughter, your queen, has spent years carefully planning out the conquest of Remnant and the downfall of humanity. Spending sleepless nights strategizing every work around of any set back, any interference, any minor hiccup that she could possibly imagine. Even of her death, she still has a plan that we can follow. And you dare besmirch my daughter's name with your assumption that it is all over? I should kill you where you stand!

Tyrian immediately launches himself to the floor, bowing before him.

Tyrian: F-f-forgive me, my Lord! I did not know my place!

You:... No. Of course you didn't. You mortals never do.

The Father takes his seat as he looks upon the scared faces of everyone around him. Even Hazel has a hint of fear in his eyes.

You: Velvet, please lead Dr. Watts and Joshua Ironwood to the basement, I wish to discuss with them on outfitting the Children with better equipment. Everyone else, leave me.

Not wanting to anger him, they all left him in the room. As the doors finally close, the Father is once again alone with the silence.

You:... Ozpin. You have said time and time again that you have made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet. Hell, I can honestly say that I am the same way in that regard. However...

This shall be your greatest one by far, and your last.

[Location: Vacuo]

Out in the middle of Vacuo's desert, an out of place mountain lays standing in the harsh rays of the sun.

Awaken

Suddenly it shakes violently as it rises. Limbs forming from it as a hellish red glow emanates from three of it's caves, only to form a face. As it stands to it's full height, it lets out a mighty roar into the air.

[Location: Mistral]

Deep within the forest of Mistral, in the middle of a clearing, stands a misshapen tree that almost resembles a human hugging itself.

Awaken

The strange tree twitches for a moment before it's thick limb like branches unfurl from the base, revealing a woman like figure. It kneels down and places it's hands on the soft dirt. This action results in the forest coming to life, making it thicker and much more darker.

[Location: Atlas]

As the snow gently falls across Atlas's mountain range, the sight of an odd glacier lies within.

Awaken

Suddenly the snow begins to grow thick as it falls much faster. Within moments it becomes a full blown blizzard. A hellish shriek emanates from a cave inside the glacier. Not a moment later, a pale beast flies out of the glacier and into the eye of the storm.

[Location: The airs of Mistral]

Ruby's p.o.v.

As we fly across Mistral, I'm still confused as to what is going on. All I can think of is when Uncle Qrow and Ozpin came rushing in as we were eating breakfast.

[Flashback]

As we are all seated at the table ready to eat, we hear a commotion from outside the door. It turns out to be Ozpin and Uncle Qrow as they open the door and walk in.

Qrow: What the hell was that?!

Ozpin: For the last time, I don't know.

Qrow: How can most of the police force, an entire base, and half a forest be wiped out in a matter of seconds after we-

Ruby: Uncle?

They stop yelling after I called out.

Ozpin: Students, pack your things and be ready to leave. We are heading back to Vale.

Jaune: What? Why?

Qrow: We'll explain later. Just get everything together and head to the airships.

Suddenly the tv and everyone's scrolls let out static before a man in black robes and a completely blank mask appears on the screens.

Nichts: War. A truly vile event that only brings pain and suffering to the innocent. But at the same time, allows us to see who is friend and foe, and push us to better ourselves in everyway possible. Last night, an attack on the Children within Mistral led to the pointless deaths of countless lives. Along with the death of the revered Queen of the Grimm, Salem, resulting in the Grimm becoming more rabid then ever before. This loss has led to a motion of events that cannot be reversed. As I speak, beasts have risen from the earth and are now reeking havoc all across Remnant.

The screen changes to three screens. One showing a giant rock monster stomping through a village in a desert. Another with a flying creature soaring over the city of Atlas as a lethal blizzard forms around it. The last screen reveals a pack of tree monsters rushing out of a forest and towards a city. The screen switches back to the strange man.

Nichts: This is not why I am speaking to you now, however. The attack on my Children has left me with no choice... I, Pastor Absoliman Nichts, leader of the Children and follower the holy Father, hereby declare war on all four kingdoms of Remnant. May the Father have mercy on our souls.

The screen goes to static as it changes the channel, leaving us in shock.

???: I don't like them putting chemicals in the water that turn the friggen frogs gay!

[Flashback end]

After that, we collected all our things and hurried to an airship. I just can't wrap my head around any of this! What are we going to do?

3rd p.o.v.

In the cockpit of the airship, the two pilots continue to fly to Vale as quickly as possible. As they do, one of them notices something off in the distance.

Pilot1: What the hell is that?

Pilot2: Huh?

They both focus on the anomaly. Within a few seconds, they see that it is a black mass of smoke... flying right towards them.

Pilot1: Shit! Evasive maneuvers!

They tilt the airship quickly to the side, sending most of it's inhabitants flying around inside. This action proves useless as the mass flies right into the cockpit, through the airship and out of the tail, resulting in the ship to nose dive to the earth. Once it finally crashes, the front of the ship explodes as the back crumbles under it's own weight.

Ruby's p.o.v.

Ruby: Aurgh! Oh god, my leg!

I clench onto my left leg as it throbs with pain. All around me I hear the occasional groan of pain from the others. I suddenly hear the strain of metal in the distance. I look over as light pures into the destroyed airship. What I see... I cannot describe. Walking in from the new entrance is a tall silhouette of a person, yet it's strange white mask is as clear as day despite the sun glare. It passes by Jaune and Blake and over to... Oscar. As he struggles to get up, the being grabs him by the neck and lifts him up in the air with one hand. It pulls it's other hand back as it forms into a blade, ready to strike.

Ruby: No!

Before it could impale him, it snaps it's head towards my direction. It looks between me and Oscar a few times before looking back at me.

You:... This will make a fine trade.

The blade turns back into a hand as it throws Oscar against a wall. As he hits his head against the wall, knocking him out, the cloaked figure walks towards me. I try to crawl away but I am grabbed by my bad leg and pulled back. A hand is wrapped around my neck as I am lift into the air.

You: My, my. What beautiful eyes you have.

Suddenly my vision begins to fade. The last thing I hear before I pass out is a strange popping noise.

*bamf*

[Location: Grimm castle]

3rd p.o.v.

Deep within the castle inside a small guest room, lies a sleeping Ruby. After a moment, she stirs in her sleep before sitting up right in shock. She looks around the strange environment as she tries to get her barings on what has happened. She rips the blanket off of her and sees bandages wrapped around her leg.

You: Ah good, you're awake.

Ruby snaps her head to the door and sees the same figure from before. He is holding a tray of food. As he walks over to the bed Ruby begins to thrash about, trying to get out of the bed.

You: Hey! I just patched that leg up. You're only going to hurt yourself over me bringing breakfast.

Ruby stays still as he sets the tray on the table next to the bed and takes a seat in a chair.

Ruby: What do you want from me?

You: Nothing much, really. Just a chance to talk with you.

Ruby: I have nothing to talk about! It doesn't matter how long you trap me here, I will get out!

The Father just stares at her before he reaches down and pulls out a crutch, setting it by her bed as he stands up. He waves his hand to the exit.

You: You want to leave? There's the door.

He walks out of the room and leaves the door open behind him. Confused, Ruby listens as his footsteps fade into the distance. She grabs the crutch and carefully gets out of bed and out the door. As she makes it to the hallway, she looks both ways to see it is empty. She picks a direction and walks to it with the crutch, listening to her surroundings.

You: just one question.

Ruby snaps her head around to find the owner of the voice, only to see she is still alone.

You: What will you do once you get out? Return to the others?

Ruby: Y-yes. Then we are going to take you down for what you have done!

You: And then?

She looks around in confusion.

Ruby: Huh?

You: You defeat me and everyone lives happily ever after. Then what?

Ruby: Um... We rebuild Beacon and start again.

You: What about the giant ass Grimm dragon hanging off the tower like a gargoyle? The freeze effect won't last for much longer.

Ruby: We'll just-

You: Let's forget about the Grimm for a second. You save the people from the Grimm and the war, there's peace again. What if ,after some time, some people start to abuse the peace for their own gain? Who's to stop someone from being the next Roman Torchwick or White Fang, if not worse?

Ruby: W-we'll be ready, no matter what.

You:... You'll be ready? Ruby, I want to show you what you'll be ready for.

Suddenly the hallway turns into a field of grass, startling Ruby. She looks around for any signs of danger until she witnesses something breathe taking.

You: Like the view?

She looks to the right and sees the Father staring at the sight.

You: Beautiful isn't it? I remember creating this valley.

Ruby: Where are we?

You: Haha! Don't recognize it, eh?

Ruby: No...

You: This is where you live, Ruby. This is Vale.

The view of the forest then changes into the site of a familiar city. The lush blue sky goes dim, and the sounds of wild life is replaced by the occasional car horn and sirens.

You: I wanted you to see the original design.

She looks across the city, slightly disappointed. She looks back up at the Father.

Ruby: What do you want from me?

He looks down to the young warrior.

You: You said you will be ready, no matter what. Tell me... would you be ready for this in fifty years?

Suddenly, off in the distance, a large object falls towards the city. As it lands, a massive explosion is set off in the city. Within seconds, a mushroom cloud forms over the city. Ruby is petrified by the display.

Ruby: W-w-what was that?!

You: That is the most dangerous weapon ever conceived by humanity... Nuclear warfare. Capable of wiping out a population within seconds.

Ruby: T-that's impossible.

You: Ruby. When humanity was first formed in this world, I was over joyed and curious as to what they were capable of. So when I looked into it's future, I saw something that truly struck me to the core with fear.

Not far off, another explosion can be seen.

You: I saw lush forests cut down for needless spaces, nations bickering over how the people should feel, the very earth hollowed out for minerals that will not last them much longer. But worst of all.

Another explosion, the Father looks directly at it.

You: I saw the end. And this time, it is over something truly pitiful. It is over the use of the remaining dust. One for weaponry, the other for fuel.

Ruby: Please stop.

You: No matter how much you believe this world can be saved...

Another explosion, tears begin to well up in Ruby's eyes.

You: No matter how much effort you put in to save everyone-

Ruby: S-stop it.

You: There will never be peace.

Another explosion.

You: There will always be one person in the world that hates faunus with a burning passion. People that will ruin the lives of others to get what they want.

Another explosion.

You: And there will ALWAYS be conflict!

Ruby: STOP IT! Stop, please stop!

She drops her crutch and falls to her knees, burying her face within her hands as she weeps. The whole environment changes back to the empty hallway within the castle. The Father kneels down to Ruby as she continues to cry.

You: What if I told you, there's a way to avoid this event?

Ruby slowly lifts her head, tears continuing to streak down her cheeks.

You: I know how to save this world and humanity from an untimely end.

He reaches his hand out to Ruby.

You: Will you continue to fight the inevitable? Or will you join me to give this world a happy ending it truly deserves?

Ruby is hesitant. If she joins him, she would be betraying all of her friends and family. But if she doesn't, then things will only get worse for everybody without his help. She slowly reaches her hand out to his and grabs on. The Father helps Ruby to her feet and leads her back to the guest room. She lays back down on the bed as the Father places the crutch by her bed and takes his leave.

You: You get some rest. I have to take care of something.

Once he leaves, Ruby looks at the tray by her bed. A p.b.&j. sandwich, a glass of orange juice, and a plate of chocolate chip cookies.

[Later that day]

Inside a large chamber lies a sleeping Cinder. After some time, she finally awakens. She sits up from the ground and rubs her head. As she opens her remaining eye she observes her surroundings, wondering how she isn't dead.

Cinder: H-how-

You: Cinder.

She stands up to attention from the ominous yet familiar disembodied voice.

Cinder: My Lord! Uh, thank you for saving my life... again.

You:...

Cinder: Sire?

You: I am not happy, Cinder. Especially with your performance as of late.

Cinder: Forgive me, Lord! I will do my best to make it up to you and the mistress!

You: Salem is dead.

Cinder: W-what?

You: Murdered. By the very man you said, To HeR fAcE, you killed.

The look of dread is evident on Cinder's face. She begins to panic.

Cinder: M-m-my Lord! I swear on my life, I will not rest until I bring vengeance upon the one that did this!

You: No.

A sword suddenly goes through her chest from behind. She gasps for air.

You: You won't.

Cinder is uplifted to the air by the sword as the owner whispers in her ear.

???: Do you believe in destiny?

Cinder is shoved from the sword as she falls to the ground, bleeding profusely. She slowly turns on her back and sees her attacker. What she saw left a shocked expression forever on her face as she finally dies.

Once her last breath leaves her breast, the Fall Maiden's power exits her body and into Pyrrha's. As the power finally assimilates with her, she holsters her sword and turns to the approaching figure.

Pyrrha: So what comes next, Father?

You: Now we get Penny and Velvet, then we begin your training. Once Ruby recovers, she will be joining us.

Pyrrha: Ruby is here?... Wait! Recover? What happened to her?

You: Just a little accident. She will be fine in a few days. Now, come along. We'll let the beowolves handle the mess.

As they take their leave, a pack of beowolves descend on Cinder's corpse.

[Two months later]

The Father makes his way to the meeting room where everyone is gathered. After a month or two of training them, they proven to be more effective in combat now. As he enters the room, he sees Ruby and Penny having a nice chat over girl things.

Velvet is cleaning her camera, Pyrrha is leaning against a wall while listening to Ruby and Penny talk. Emerald and Mercury are keeping their distance from the four. Although reluctant, they agreed to work with them after a long discussion. They all look over to the Father as he walks in.

You: I'm glad that you all made it. I will be assigning you your missions for this war.

Ruby fidgets in her seat, still not comfortable over the idea of war.

You: Penny and Velvet, you will be escorting Dr. Watts to a lab in Atlas. Donn and Commadner Joshua will debrief you on the situation of the Children's attack.

Penny: You can count on us!

You: Ruby and Pyrrha, you two are heading back to Vale to... acquire something I have lost. Your pilot will explain more on the way.

Pyrrha: It will be done.

You: Lastly, Emerald and Mercury, you two will be searching for someone that you may have already met. Neopolitan. She was last seen somewhere in the Southern region of Vale.

Mercury: Got it.

You: Good, good............ You may go now.

The teams make their way to the bullheads outside, leaving the Father by himself. He makes his way to a window and looks outside.

You: "sigh" I've always imagined I would start World War 2 on Remnant... I just wish it was for a different reason... Rest in peace, Salem. Daddy will finish this for you.

He looks up and sees the bullheads heading to their seporate destinations.
