Chapter 2 The Encounter

It was the last day of school and Chae Sue thought previously that this day would not come. She waved goodbye and gave hugs to all her children when they were leaving. She was now glowing with radiance as she exudes grace and charisma while conversing with her parents and colleagues.

The internship had ended on a high note for her and from the assignment incident; Ms. Wales and Ms. Gurdle were awfully quiet. Chae Sue was busy laughing with herself when her tennis coach Mr. Sazer called.

Mr. Sazer was a tall and handsome young man of Indian descent. He was slim and always well dressed for any occasion. His black hair was always brushed so it would lay down with low cut curls. He was her childhood friend and they were both 19 years old.

"Hey Alec" Chae Sue said while smiling brightly.

"It's Coach Sazer for you. And did you forget our training session today?" Alec Sazer said.

Chae Sue hung up the phone and ran towards the gate and sure enough, Alec was in his new red convertible Porsche car waiting for her. His father had bought him the car as a gift for being the undefeated tennis champion for all the local universities.

She smiled and hurried towards his car with her bag on one shoulder. Her suitcase was already packed in his car with new clothes he had bought for her.

When Alec saw her he exclaimed "And you're not even changed!"

Chae Sue smiled at him and said while getting into his car "I can change when we get there."

He was still frowning and rolling his eyes at her.

"I think you're taking this couching thing way too seriously" she continued while folding her arms across her chest.

Alec let out a sigh and shakes his head. He was looking at Chae Sue in disbelief when she used her head to signal him to go. On their way to the training academy, Alec went over the schedule for their training and Chae Sue nodded in agreement.

Alec's dad was both Alec and Chae Sue's coach, but he had a business meeting to attend so he would join them the following day. Mr. Sazer was a business tycoon in their country and a very established tennis coach.

When they arrived, Chae Sue was now asleep.

Alec looked at her and said "tsk, tsk, tsk" while he shakes his head.

He then leaned over and whispered in her ears softly "babe we're here".

She woke up with a frightened look on her face which made Alec laugh.

"You're so cheesy!" Chae Sue exclaimed while she took up her bag and stormed out of Alec's car.

Chae Sue went straight to the changing room. The academy was really huge and was modeled like a resort with rooms, restaurants and areas for recreational activities. There were university students from all over the world who came to participate in this prestigious tennis tournament.

They were seen unloading their bags with suitcases from cars and buses while others had arrive earlier and made the academy their second home. They were going to stay at the academy for two weeks and each university had four representatives, two boys and two girls. Chae Sue and Alec belonged to the same university.

Chae Sue met up with Alec, George, Emma and Lora Brie the assistant Coach at the reception area to receive their room keys. Ms. Brie was responsible for the girls and Mr. Sazer was responsible for the boys, but in his absence, Ms. Brie had both responsibilities.

They all agreed to unpack and meet in the lobby in the next 15 minutes. Emma and Chae Sue were in one room and Alec and George in another. However, the coaches had their own rooms.

Everyone arrived in the lobby in no time and went over their schedules. In his father's absence, Alec agreed to take over Chae Sue's preparations as he was a way better tennis player than her. Chae Sue did not mind the arrangement as she trusted Alec with her life.

When they reach the courts, Chae Sue and Alec were just in time to get an empty court to practice.

"I won't go easy on you, you know that right?" Alec said while warming up.

"I wasn't counting on that" Chae Sue replied with a smirk.

She then picked up three balls and put them in her leggings pockets. They then began to rally, but to Alec's surprise, it went on for a while. He could not break her no matter how hard he tried or where he placed the ball.

They were now both even and needed a tie breaker match, this had never happened to Alec before while playing against Chae Sue.

"I've been practicing!" Chae Sue exclaimed panting with sweat dripping down her face.

They continued to rally when Chae Sue got distracted by the laugher beside her. She hit the ball back to Alec and turned her head slightly to see who was laughing. Their eyes met as he was turning around to face his coach to serve his ball.

"Chae Sue watch out!" Alec shouted, but by the time she turned back to face Alec, the ball hit her right on her right jaw.

The force from the ball caused her to lose her balance.

'Oh no! I'm going to hit the ground!' she thought.

She then felt somebody holding her. Alec dropped his racquet and was running towards the other side of the court.

She was a little startled and the sun was glaring in her eyes so she could not recognize who it was. He laid her gently on the court in a sitting position while still embracing her in his arms.

"Are you alright?" the voice inquired.

It was the sweetest voice she had ever heard so she was smiling like a fool. The voice asked again if she was alright. She used her hands to shield the sun to see who it was.

She then let out a gasp; it was the handsome boy that she was admiring. She felt embarrassed and held down her head. Alec was now beside them with a worried look on his face.

"I will take care of her from here" Alec said as they both helped Chae Sue to her feet.

"Are you alright?" the stranger asked again.

"Sorry for the inconvenience we caused you" Alec continued while holding Chae Sue in his arms.

"That's ok" the stranger replied.

"Oh I'm Alec by the way" Alec said while extending his hand.

"Quan" the stranger said while shaking Alec's hand.

Alec then excused himself and left.

Prisa May had just arrived in time to see Quan holding Chae Sue in his arms and how his eyes followed her when Alec took her away. She was steaming with anger and jealousy but managed to flash a smile across her face while walking towards Quan and his coach.

Prisa May and Quan were on the same team and knew each other since high school. She was a Asian with long flowing black her that was now comb in one. She was wearing a full white skirt suit with her racket in hand.

"Who was that?" she asked sweetly while facing Quan.

He gave her a smile.

"That's what I wanted to know" he responded.

Prisa May's smile began to shake.

"Can I take a break now coach?" Quan asked while wiping the sweat from his face.

His coach gave him a break and they agreed to meet after dinner to practice some more. As Quan was walking off, Prisa May held onto his arm. He stopped what he was doing and looked at her.

"I need a little assistance with my rallying could you assist me?" she inquired earnestly.

"I'm taking a break right now" he replied.

"Please?" she said while beseeching with her eyes.

"Coach I'm going on my lunch break now, could you assist Prisa May in my stead?" Quan inquired while turning to face his coach.

"On second thought I could eat something before I play . Can we have lunch together instead?" she inquired.

Before he could give her an answer, his partner and friend Fred came up to them.

" We can all go together I'm starving!" Fred said while using his hand to rub his stomach.

"That sounds good" Quan replied while taking up his bag.

They all left together with Prisa May forcing a fake smile to hide her disgust.

'Why did he have to tag along?' she thought.

While at the lunch table, she kept on giving Fred hints to leave but he kept on ignoring her while he and Quan converse as if she was invisible.

One of the resident doctor s that were at the tennis camp said thankfully Chae Sue was not hurt badly. She only had a swollen face which the ice was reducing.

"So how did this happen? the doctor inquired.

"Well..." Chae Sue tried to explain when Alec chimed in.

"She was gazing" he said.

"Gazing? On a tennis court?" the doctor inquired trying to refrain herself from laughing.

"I just took my eyes off the ball for a second and this is what I get in return. Humiliation and a swollen cheek" Chae Sue said while burying her face in the pillow.

Alec kept pestering her as he found her current state amusing.

"Why are you being so melodramatic? What got you so distracted out there?" he inquired while gesturing with his hands.

"I'm too embarrassed to talk so drop the subject ok" she continued.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk" Alec continued with hands across his chest and shaking his head.

"I'm a bit famished from being so overwhelmed. Can you grab my lunch from the cafeteria?" she inquired while sitting up to face him.

"The ice bag should be applied directly to your jaw to get the swelling down" he said while helping her to apply the bag properly.

"How will you ever survive without me?" he continued while existing the room.

She breathe a sigh of relief that Alec had agreed to carrying her lunch as she  feared that she would probably run into Quan.

While Alec was selecting Chae Sue's lunch, he saw Quan and he came over to him.

"How is your friend doing?" he inquired with concern.

"She's ok. The swelling has been reduced" Alec replied.

"That's good to hear" Quan continued.

"Yeah. The only thing that's really wrong with her is that she's embarrassed that she lost the match" Alec continued.

This last comment made Quan smile as he tried hard not to laugh. He then excused himself and went to rejoin his team who were waiting for him at the exit.

When Alec went back to the doctor's residence, Chae Sue was now in a sitting position.

"Guess who I ran into just now?" he inquired.

"Let me guess. Is it the boy from the court?" Chae Sue inquired hoping he would say yes and no at the same time.

"How did you know? He wanted to know if my friend was ok so I told him what had happened" he continued.

"How could you tell him about how I looked?" she said while using her clenched fists to hit his shoulder.

"Chae Sue what is there to be angry about? You look great to me" Alec continued to tease while holding her hands.

"Let go!" she said while flashing both hands free.

She then stormed out of the doctor's office and went to her room feeling very upset.

Alec stood there in bewilderment as he stared at the ice bag she had left on the bed and the food he had brought for her in his hands.

Chae Sue stayed in her room and ordered room service instead. After dining, she waited until the coast was clear to go to the tennis court to practice solo.

'Who needs Alec's company anyways?' she thought to herself feeling confident with her bag pack on her back.

However, when she arrived on the court she saw Quan taking his racket from his bag.
