Chapter 12 The Departure

When she reached outside, she hailed a taxi and got in quickly. She then gave the driver the directions to her home.

'I need to pick up my luggage and documents' she thought.

On her way there, she phoned Alec.

"Meet me at the airport A.S.A.P and I will fill you in with the details when you got there" she said.

"How will you get there? Are you planning to drive your car?" he inquired as he knew she had sworn that she would never drive them again because of an incident.

"I would have to drive" she said reluctantly and gave a heavy sigh.

"Just give me around 30 minutes I will pick you up" he insisted.

"No. I'm in a hurry" she retorted.

They were there going back and forth over the phone until he finally gave in to her wish.

"Ok I will do as you say, but if you change your mind, feel free to call ok" he insisted before hanging up.

When she arrived at her home, there was nobody there.  She hurriedly got inside and then went to the garage with her belongings and drove one of her sports car out. No sooner had she done this when some of her bodyguards that her mother placed on her arrive.

They searched the house and the garage using the spare key that they were given and reported back to Mrs. Chayette that she had already left for the airport.

"She's getting even more clever. We will meet her at the airport then" Mrs. Chayette replied.

After hanging up, she then began to make some phone calls.

While Chae Sue was on her way there; she encountered a little traffic and had to take a detour to avoid missing her flight.

'This will also be a good way to avoid being identified by any of the police officers that were on duty' she thought.

Just then, her phone began to ring, it was Alec.

"Where are you? I'm waiting outside the airport" he said.

"I'm almost there. I can even see the airport now from where I am" she replied.

They then hung up. He waited for about 5 minutes when he saw a red sports car driving up to the entrance. The girl was wearing glasses at the wheel. He was there staring in disbelief when the person got out.

"What are you staring at? Come help me with my suitcase" she said.

He cleared his throat.

"Can't I stare at something beautiful?" he inquired.

"Under normally circumstances I wouldn't mind, but right now we really have to move" she replied.

He smiled at her before walking towards her car.

"It looks like you've gotten over your little phobia?" he said while folding his arms.

She smiled and gently patted his shoulder as she came up to him again.

"I never had a phobia. I just preferred driving in your car" she said before handing him her car key.

She then walked towards the entrance door. He smiled as he watched her walking off again. He then retrieved her luggage from the car and gave the valet the keys to park it.

When they were now inside and walking stride for stride, Chae Sue linked their arms.

"How did the meeting go?" she inquired.

"You know the usual" he replied.

"Did you leave earlier than plan because of me?" she inquired.

He smiled.

"The meeting was very interesting" he said.

"So why did you leave?" she inquired annoyed.

"Even though I left before the meeting was over, I had already informed my father and aspiring business partner that I had another engagement to attend to" he continued.

"So I'm the one that made you leave earlier" she said feeling down.

"I wanted to see you off and no business deal could stop me from doing that" he said while gazing directly into her eyes.

This made her blush a bit.

"Ok now fill me in on what I missed at the gathering" he said while holding onto her hand.

She smiled at his gesture.

"I knew there was a catch" she said.

This made him chuckle.

She then filled him in on everything that had happened from when he left the graduation until she had joined him at the airport.

"My baby has finally grown up and I'm so proud of you" he whispered in her ear while giving her a hug.

Upon hearing this, she squeezed him even tighter.

"Make sure to visit me every semester" she said.

He then gave her a kiss on her forehead.

"Shall we" he said while gesturing with his hand.

She smiled and nodded. They were about to walk off when Chae Sue felt someone holding onto her hand forbidding her to move. When she turned around to see who it was, to her surprise it was Samir with blood shot eyes staring at her in disbelief.

She turned to face him properly, but before she could speak, her eyes caught her mother and her bodyguards walking towards them. Alec turned around now to face him also.

"I think you should let go off that hand" Alec said while placing his hands in his pants pockets.

Samir barely glanced at him.

"I think you should mind your own business. This is between Chae Sue and myself" Samir said.

Alec was about to approach Samir when Chae Sue used her other hand to stop him.

"He's right Alec, this is between us. I should have never dragged you into this" Chae Sue said.

Alec stared at her puzzled and then reluctantly took two steps backward while raising his hands.

"Aren't you afraid of what I can do to you?" Samir asked while zeroing his eyes on her while fastening his grip on her hand.

She looked at her mother and then at him.

"Do you want to be my mother's puppet forever? or do you not mind having  a wife that despises you for the rest of your life?" Chae Sue inquired sincerely.

Upon hearing this, his demeanor changed immediately from being cold to a little soft and tender.

"Samir I admit that I like you a lot, but not enough to marry you. However, I promise that if you really get your hands on my father's company, I will honour my end of the bargain" she said.

He glanced at her and then at  Mrs. Chayette.

"I'll make sure to hold you to that" he said while letting go of her hand.

While making eye contact she nodded. She then walked off with Alec smiling brightly.

When Mrs. Chayette saw what had happened she came up to Samir and exclaimed while shaking his shoulders violently.

"WHAT DID YOU JUST DO?!" she screamed.

He held onto her hands and gently removed them from his shoulders.

"Chae Sue doesn't love me" he confessed with his  head bowed.

"What that does that have to with our agreement? Don't you know that there is no love that money can buy?" Mrs. Chayette went on gesturing with her hands.

"I thought I could get her to love me if I used my status and authority, but all my efforts were rejected and I was left looking like a fool" Samir continued.

"What?" Mrs. Chayette said.

"So a thought came to me as my head became clearer one day while making wedding preparations. Why should I spend my whole life with a girl that hates me? We would never get along and I would always be a dispensable person in her life " Samir continued.

Mrs. Chayette face dropped as Samir then excused himself. While he was walking off, he heard her talking on her phone. He ignored it, but the next minute he heard them announcing that all flights to Japan had been cancelled until further notice over the intercom.

He turned around and their eyes met before he walked off again. He then tried to dial the airport CEO, but his efforts were futile. He was there walking when he saw Chae Sue storming towards him angrily.

When they were standing face to face their eyes met.

"Chae Sue I have..." he tried to say while holding onto her hand.

However, before he could finish his statement, she gave him a hug.

"Thank you" she whispered in his ear.

He was standing there surprised when Alec came from behind the plant chuckling.

"Gotcha!" he said.

Chae Sue then explained that while they were walking off, Alec explain to her that Samir was on their side now.

"But what I want to know is, from when did you start to have a change of heart" Chae Sue said

Samir smiled before starting to explain. He told her that her mother was the reason why he came back to Summersville in the first place.

"She made me an offer that was a win for my father's business and also a win for myself as well because I genuinely loved you" he said.

"Really?" Chae Sue inquired.

"Yeah. My confession to you at Alec's party was real, but I started to have a change of heart when we both accompanied Sae-ya to the hospital. Alec showed me the card that Mrs. Chayette was playing and that I was being deceived into thinking that you were happy or knew about the arrangements.

From then on, both Alec and I came up with a plan to get back at our parents for trying to play the role of God in their lives. All I did from then until now was my way of protecting you as my close friend and holding up my end of the bargain in being a cushion for each friend to use if necessary" Samir confessed.

When had finished talking, Chae Sue gave him a kiss on his lips and smiled. They were there laughing when they heard the announcement again about all the flights to Japan being grounded until further notice.

They both looked at her.

"What are you go to do now?" Alec inquired.

"I tried to call the CEO and was unsuccessful" Samir said.

Chae Sue didn't respond, so they all looked up at the monitor. Mrs. Chayette had now caught up to them, but they didn't notice that she was there.

"Are you satisfied now? Look what you made me have to do for you to come to your senses?" she said while shoving Chae Sue a little.

Chae Sue turned to face her.

"Mother, please stop trying to control me" she replied while hugging her tightly.

Mrs. Chayette refused to yield and used her hands to push her away.

"If you can board that flight, then I will leave your life in your own hands" her mother said.

"Do I have your word on that?" Chae Sue inquired.

"I would because that means that can survive without my help" Mrs. Chayette  said.

Samir took out his phone and was about to dial the CEO for the airport once more when Mrs. Chayette held onto his hand.

"Without the help of your friends" Mrs. Chayette continued while giving her a smirk.

Chae Sue sighed heavily before glancing at the board, her friends, her mother and the bodyguards as she saw her dream of going to Japan crumbling before her very eyes.

"I guess this is it" Chae Sue said as she began to search her handbag.

She then pulled out her ticket.

"Well....I guess this is goodbye mother" she said.

She started to smile and waving her ticket in the air happily. Both Alec and Samir smiled at her before giving each other a high five as they saw that she was going to South Korea instead.

She stepped forward and gave her mother a hug .

"Take good care of herself mother" she whispered in her ear before waving goodbye to everyone and proceeded to walk away.

"Ch...." Mrs. Chayette tried to call her name while stretching her arms out to her, but fainted instead. This was due to the shock she received from being played by all the friends when she thought that she had everything in the bag.
