(AUGUST POV)
Brian was a little mad that I left the hospital to help but understood why I did it. It's been about 3 weeks since the whole incident. I am about 5 months pregnant, how I hadn't realized I was pregnant until during the incident was beyond me. Brian and I had agreed with Dom since we are having our second child that we would completely leave this life behind. Hobbs had taken Deckard to jail so for now, there was nothing that would stop us from leaving the life. Brian, Jack, Dom, Letty, Rome, Tej, Ramsey and I are now all hanging out at the beach. Jack is digging in the sand while I watch him while walking by the water. I look over and see Jack looking at Brian. I walk up to Jack to see what is up with him.
"Hey, buddy. What's wrong?" I ask him.
"I want to play with, Daddy but he is talking," Jack answers. It makes me happy to see that he has respect for Brian.
"Never mind that right now. Why don't you go get him?" I tell him before he gets up and runs to Brian. Jack jumps into Brian's lap once he reaches him.
"Daddy! Come play," Jack says.
"Yeah. Yeah, buddy," Brian says standing up.
"Duty calls," Dom says.
"It does," Brian agrees with a smile.
"Hey, babe, come on," I tell him with a smile.
"Let's get Mama. Yeah!" Brian says before picking Jack up. "Here we go." Brian then runs towards me while carrying Jack as if he was an airplane. I laugh and let them get me.
(3RD POV)
"Because the sun is out, I'm kind of medium rare, but I can get, like, well done. Like, really dark. What you nudging me for?" Rome asks as Tej nudges him. Everyone is watching how happy Brian, August, and Jack are.
"Close your mouth for two seconds. Just open your eyes, man," Tej answers. Rome looks and a smile comes to his face just like everyone else's.
"Beautiful," Rome says.
"That's where he belongs," Letty says.
"Home. Where he's always belonged," Dom says before standing up.
"Things are gonna be different now," Rome says stating the obvious.
"You aren't going to say goodbye?" Ramsey asks as Dom heads towards the cars.
"It's never goodbye," Dom says before heading to his car and getting in.
(AUGUST POV)
Brian, Jack and I are playing when we hear Dom's engine crank up.
"Where's he going?" I ask.
"Let's find out," Brian says before heading towards his car as we see Dom leave.
"Can you watch Jack for a minute?" I ask Letty and she nods. Brian gets in his car and takes off as I get into mine and do the same.
(DOM POV)
I used to say I lived my life a quarter-mile at a time. And I think that's why we were brothers. Because you did, too.
(AUGUST POV)
We find Dom at an intersection just sitting. Brian pulls up beside him and I pull up beside Brian.
"Hey. You thought you could leave without saying goodbye?" Brian asks with a smile. Dom smiles back. The light turns green and we all take off staying right beside each other. Luckily there was no traffic. Memories pass through my mind as we drive.
The first memory is of:
Mia and I were behind the counter and Dom was in the office. I was reading a new car magazine. Mia was wiping the counter. Then I heard the sound of a truck and I looked up to see none other than Brian. Brian came in with the same magazine I was reading and sat down at the counter.
"Tuna on white, no crust, right?" Mia asks Brian.
"I don't know. How is it?" Brian replies with a smirk. I roll my eyes before going back to looking at my magazine.
"Everyday, for the last three weeks, you've been coming in here, asking how the tuna is. It was crappy yesterday. It was crappy the day before yesterday. And guess what? It hasn't changed." Mia replies now smirking.
"I'll have the tuna," Brian replies.
"No crust?" Mia asks.
"No crust," Brian states. Dom comes out of the office and goes to the cooler to get a beer. When Dom heads back to the office they have a stare off until Dom enters the office.
"What are you reading?" Brian asks me. Mia is done with his sandwich so I get up and bring it to him. While I am standing there I change the page to the car I am looking at.
"That," I answer.
"Thank you" Brian replies and after looking at the magazine he raises his eyebrows in amazement and smiles.
The second memory:
"You just can't climb in the ring with Ali, 'cause you think you can box," Jesse says. Most of the crowd nods there head yes.
"He knows I can box," Brian says pointing at Vince. "Check it out. It's like this. I lose, the winner takes my car. Clean and clear. But if I win, I take the cash, and I take the respect."
"Respect," Dom says.
"To some people, that's more important," Brian says looking at me.
..............................................................................................................................
"Are you ready?" I say. They each take turns revving their engines.
"I know you're ready," I say pointing at Brian and smirking at him. I hold the green bandanna up in the air.
"Go!" I say as I drop the green bandanna.
The third memory:
"That's not what I had in mind," Dom says getting out of the car. His arm is dislocated. The train is still passing by. We start to here cop sirens in the distance. I go to grab Dom's arm to get him to the car, but Brian digs in his pocket and gets his car keys out. He holds them towards Dom.
"You know what you're doing?" Dom asks Brian.
"I owe you a 10-second car," Brian answers handing Dom the keys.
The fourth memory:
"What's happenin', dude?" Tej asks as they bro hug.
"Thank for the invite," Brian says and sees me standing there.
The fifth memory:
"Open a garage together." Brian states.
"A garage? How we gonna do that, brah?" Rome asks smirking.
"Pockets ain't empty, cuz," Brian answers smirking. Rome pulls his shirt up to show his waistline full of stacks of cash. I smirk knowing mine is the same way.
"And we ain't hungry no more either, brah," Rome says. Rome and Brian fist bump. I pull away from Brian for a moment.
"We ain't gonna be hungry for a long time," I say smirking. They look at me confused. I raise my shirt up to reveal my waistline full of stacks of cash.
"That's why you my homegirl, girl," Rome says high-fiving me.
"And she's my girl," Brian says kissing me.
"Let's go eat, homies," Rome says.
The sixth memory:
"Maybe you're lying to yourself. Maybe you're not the good guy pretending to be a bad guy. Maybe you're the bad guy pretending to be the good guy. You ever think about that?" Mia asks getting up.
"Every day." Brian answers.
"I always wondered, why did you let my brother go that day?" Mia asks.
"I don't know," Brian says and Mia walks out.
The seventh memory:
"They're going to be looking for all four of us together now. We need to split up. You, Mia, and August head south, I'll lead them away." Dom says.
"No," Mia says.
"That's bullshit," I say.
"Dom is right. Look how lucky we just got. What happens next time? We have no choice but to split up," Brian says.
"I have a kid," Mia says.
"That's right, we can't just abandon her kid. I already lost my family once. I'm not going through that again. I went through nine years of being a cop to keep you with us, Dom," I say.
"I'm also pregnant again," Mia says.
"Are you kidding us?" I ask her.
"No," Mia says.
"Oh my gosh I'm so happy for you. I'm not going anywhere," I say pulling her into a hug.
"Dom? Promise us we stick together," Mia says.
"I promise," Dom says and we all group hug. "Our family just got bigger."
The eighth memory:
"Yes. You'll have your own garage, so you can build cars with mommy and daddy," I say while also rubbing my stomach and smiling.
"His first car better be a Charger," Dom says with a smirk on his face. Even though Brian doesn't know it, I agree with Dom.
"Surely you mean a Skyline?" Brian asks him, smiling.
"He's gonna be a Toretto," Dom says making me smile even more.
"You're confusing him and he's not even here yet," Brian says teasingly.
"You gonna let him get away with that?" Dom asks me. I hold my hands up in surrender.
"I don't see why we can't let him help build both...." I say before walking over and hugging Dom. "The charger will be first," I whisper to Dom, making him laugh.
The ninth and final memory:
"Okay, Roman. Bless our table." Dom says. I take Letty's and Brian's hand. Brian takes Rome's and he takes Tej's and he takes Han's.
"Thank you, Father, for we are gathered with our friends. We thank thee for the choices we have made, for they make us who we are. Let us forever remember our loved ones, we have lost. Thanks for the newest edition yet to come, and thank you, for bringing Letty back to us. And first and foremost...Thank you for fast cars!"
As the memories end, I see that there is a fork in the road. The right going who knows where and the left to go back to the beach. We all smile at each other one last time before Brian and I go left with Dom going right.
I knew right then that it wasn't goodbye because we would see him again. But I also knew that it was the end of that life for Brian and I, with the beginning of our new life. I'll see you again, my brother...
(DOM POV)
As we drive memories flash through my mind.
I think of when Brian brought in the car on the trailer.
"This is your car," he said.
"My car?" I asked him.
I then think of when we jumped in front of the train and Brian handed me the keys to his car so I could get away from the cops.
The memory then goes to when Hobbs brings us our pardons.
"It's official. You're all free," Hobbs said.
Then to when Brian, Aug, and I went to the race to get the blue car he wanted.
"Home sweet home," I had said about being in the racing environment.
To after Aug and I let him win in the race with the cop cars.
To when we hid Braga's truck in the police lot.
To Brian and August walking along the beach after we had stolen the safe.
"No matter where you are, whether it's a quarter-mile away or halfway across the world," I think before more memories come.
To seeing Brian, August, and Mia on the train while doing the job with Vince.
To finding out that Mia was pregnant again and when we decided not to split up.
To working in the garage before we went after Braga.
To saying grace after August had fixed my shoulder, with it just being Brian, her, and me.
To when I gave the toast saying:
"The most important thing in life will always be the people in this room. Right here, right now. Salute mi familia."
"Salute." With everyone clinking their beers together.
I look over to Brian and August before we go our separate ways. I think, "You'll always be with me. And you'll always be my brother and sister.
I'll see you again.....................
