Chapter 5

*3rd POV*

Hector and his group pulled up to Harry's. "All right. Now that's valet parking." Hector said as a lot of his people got out of their cars and walked inside. "Harry. What's up, dog?" Hector asked Harry.

"Excellent, brother. Come on in, man. Check it. It's yours." Harry said. "Damn. What do we got here? Hired some new help, huh?" Hector asked as Brian and Kayson got up and walked around the counter.

"Don't even think about it. What's up, Hector?" Brian and Kayson asked shaking Hector's hands. "What's up, Brian? Kayson? How you feelin'?" Hector asked. "Pretty good. So, what's up? What do you need?" Kayson asked.

"What's up, man? I need you to hook me up. Three of everything. I made a list." Hector said as he pulled a paper out. "Why don't you two look that over?" Hector asked. "When do you need this stuff by?" Brian asked.

"Tomorrow, today, now." Hector said. "Right." Kayson said softly. "White boys work fast, don't they? Beto, pasa la feria, homes. That's right." Hector said as he was handed money. "Hey, you said you need three of all this stuff?" Kayson asked as him and Brian looked at the computer.

"Yeah, three of everything. What do you think about that? Check this out." Hector said causing Brian and Kayson to look, only to see Hector with a stack of cash. They looked at the cash and then back at Hector.

Later

A lot of Hector's boys were standing together by their cars. Hector had hoes on him. Across from them was a building. Brian and Kayson pulled up in Harry's truck, and Kayson's red 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

They shut the doors quietly and climbed up to a roof of the building. They looked around a corner and saw the party that's going on. Brian quietly broke a window and looked around the garage with Kayson.

He lifted some tarps and looked around at the cars, making sure they had the right stuff in the reports. They quickly left, but Brian was knocked unconscious by Vince. "Vince, what the fuck?!" Kayson yelled confused.

Vince pointed a gun at Brian, causing Kayson to freeze. Vince dragged Brian with Kayson following quickly. Vince dropped Brian to the ground, who moans in pain. "He moans like a cop." Vince said.

Kayson glared, he may have told Izzy and Dom, but he didn't tell anyone else the truth. Dom came out from the shadows as Vince kept his gun pointed at Brian. "Dom." Kayson said pleadingly.

"Brian, this is one of those times...when you need to be very clear about what you say. Nod if you understand me." Dom said quietly. Brian was a little out of it from the gun to his head. "Nod!" Vince yelled which caused Brian to nod and Kayson to flinch.

*My POV*

"Sit up." Dom said causing Brian to slowly sit up with the gun pointed at him. I sat on the barrel. "Dom, calm down." I said softly as he had his arms crossed. "Tell me what the hell you're doin' down here." Dom said calmly.

"Oh, shit. What we're doin'?" Brian said panting before Vince nudged him with the gun. Dom gave Kayson a nod and he came to me. "Baby." Kayson said softly and kissed my forehead. "Dom, I owe-- I owe you a 10-second car. And what this is about, this about Race Wars." Brian said before Vince kicked him.

"Vince!" I yelled causing him to stop. "I just went in there, and Hector is gonna be runnin'...three Honda Civics and Spoon engines. And on top of that, he just came into Harry's...and he ordered three T-66 turbos, with NOS and a MoTeC system exhaust." Brian explained panting.

Vince, Dom and I look at each other. "So, what are you saying?" Dom asked. "You're gonna go around and check everybody's shit out, one garage after another?" I asked as Kayson held me close.

"Yeah." Brian said as he got up, causing Vince to keep the gun pointed at him. "Because Dom, you know...I can't lose again." Brian said. "He's a cop. He's a cop! Him and his brother!" Vince yelled pointing at Kayson.

Kayson looked down ashamed, but I held onto him, letting him know that it's okay, and that it's okay since he told me and Dom the truth. "You a cop?" Dom asked, and Brian shook his head. "Let's go for a little ride." I said as Dom, Kayson and I walk off.

"Walk!" Vince yelled as he and Brian followed. We drove into T & K Food and stopped at a certain spot. "All right, kid, stand watch." I told Jesse as me, Vince, Kayson, Brian and Dom got out. Jesse drove off as we climbed the fence.

We got to the roof and got inside through the roof. I got in last, and Dom helped me down. We looked around. "Yo, Dominic." Vince said as we walked over. "There's no engines." I said as we looked.

"What are they plannin' on racin' with?" Kayson asked confused. "Hopes and dreams?" Dom asked. "I don't know, but I know they're sneaky as shit, and they've got enough money to buy anything." Vince said as Brian was looking around and he found some DVD boxes.

A beep went off. "Oh." I said before taking my phone out. "What, Jess?" I asked confused. "Izz, we got a wolf pack. It's Johnny Tran, and he's comin' your way really fast." Jesse said. "All right, we got company." Dom said as we began leaving, Kayson helping me up.

"I got you, baby." Kayson said. "Spilner!" Dom yelled for Brian. As the lights came on, we hid. We hid in the corner. Vince cocked his gun. "Come on. Move!" Lance said. "Let me ask you a question, Ted. Do you see anything wrong here?" Johnny asked.

"No." Ted said simply. Johnny grabbed him. "We got not engines, do we?" Johnny asked. "No!" Ted quickly said. "Do we?" Johnny asked. "No!" Ted said again. "Do we?" Johnny asked. "No!" Ted said.

"A couple of Nissan SR20 motors will pull a premium...one week before Race Wars, huh?" Johnny asked. "Yeah, probably." Ted said. "You're a smart, fence, Ted. Maybe too smart. What are you feelin', Lance?" Johnny asked as he took his jacket off.

"What the..." Kayson whispered as we watched. "Forty weight? Fifty weight?" Johnny asked. "A forty weight sounds nice." Lance said simply before Ted was grabbed and shoved to the ground, and he suddenly had oil all over his face like they were drowning him.

Ted groaned. I covered my mouth as we watched. Dom pulled me back and kept me close as I hid my face in his chest. "Where are they, Ted? Where are they?" Johnny asked. "Enough!" Ted yelled through the oil.

"Where are they?" Johnny asked again. "They're in a warehouse. They're in a warehouse, man!" Ted said as Johnny stopped and got off of him. Brian looked over at Vince. Vince looked over at us as Dom held me close, trying to calm me down.

Kayson rubbed my back. Ted was coughing. Lance threw a rag at Johnny for his hands. "Ted. Kiss my shoes?" Johnny asked as we kept watching. Ted slowly crawled over to do that, but Johnny kicked him causing Ted to groan and hit the ground.

I flinched and Dom kissed my head. "Shh...I got ya sis." Dom whispered. "Let's go get our engines." Johnny said as they began leaving.

*3rd POV*

Brian was the only one back at the secret house, because Kayson quit. He wanted to be with Izzy and RaeLynn, he wanted to be with them more than be a detective. "My superiors are flying in from D.C day after tomorrow. I want something to show them. Now, we have a top-echelon fence with a lube hose in his mouth, automatic weapons, a jacket full of priors on every one of these Asian punks, garage full of DVD players and generally psychotic behavior. Now, tell me why we shouldn't move on Johnny Tran right now...and see where we are when the dust settles." Bilkins said.

"Because all we have is behavior. Just let me get some hard evidence, because what we have now is just circumstantial--" Brian said but was cut off. "What we have is a probable cause. And truckers arming themselves for some good old-fashioned vigilante mayhem." Bilkins said.

"Tell us about Hector, Brian." Tanner said. "Oh, Latinos with spear guns. Give me a break." Bilkins said. "No, Hector's still working on the engines for the cars, but the tires don't match. Will some--will someone just give me a cigarette?" Brian asked.

"Get him a cigarette." Bilkins said. "Don't get him a cigarette. I thought you quit." Tanner said. "Yeah, I did quit. Just give me a cigarette." Brian said. "Get him a cigarette." Bilkins said. "No! Tell me about Toretto." Tanner said.

"Well, I told you, I think he's too controlled for this. I mean, what? Going suicidal on semi-trucks? No way. I mean, maybe his buddy Vince, but he's too stupid to pull it off." Brian said. "I think the kid sisters' are blurring your and Kayson's vision." Muse said, causing Brian to look at him pissed.

He knew Kayson quit for Izzy and RaeLynn. "What did you say?" Brian asked pissed. "I don't blame you. I'd get off on their surveillance photos too, buddy." Muse said, causing Brian to charge at him and shove him.

Bilkins easily pushed Muse to the ground while Tanner held Brian back. "Knock it off! What, are you going native on me, Brian? Have you read Toretto's file lately?" Tanner asked. Brian was staring at Muse still pissed.

"Yeah. I memorized that file." Brian said. "Yeah, well read it again. No, better still, take look at these. Remember I told you about the guy he nearly beat to death? Toretto did this with a three-quarter-ich torque wrench. He's a model of self-control." Tanner said.

Brian glared at him a little. He's just now starting to get along with Dom. "I need a few more days. I need a few more days." Brian said again to Bilkins before walking away, not wanting to deal with this.

*My POV*

"Got a T.R.-seven here with a ball-bearing upgrade. What it's gonna do is it's gonna--It's gonna spool up really quickly." Jesse said as him, Letty and Leon were working on an engine. I was working on my own car with RaeLynn's help, and of course Kayson's.

"I got this set up for 24 P.S.I." Letty said as Dom was helping Brian. "So, you got big plans tonight?" Dom asked Brian and Kayson as I worked on my car. "Yeah, we're going out to dinner." Brian and Kayson told him.

"You break their hearts; I'll break your necks." Dom said calmly. "That's not gonna happen." Kayson said as he rubbed my back. I smiled. RaeLynn giggled, causing Kayson to pick her up, causing her to squeal. "I wanna show you something." Dom said and I knew where he was going, so I tagged along.

Time skip

We pulled into the driveway. Dom and I slid the door open to the garage, showing both Brian and Kayson a car. "Wow." Brian and Kayson said. "Us and our dad built her." I said softly. "900 horses of Detroit muscle. It's a beast." Dom said.

"Know what she ran in Palmdale?" I asked. "No. What did she run?" Kayson asked. "Nine seconds flat." Dom and I said. "God." Brian and Kayson mumbled. "Our dad was driving. So much torque, the chassis twisted coming off the line." I explained.

We chuckled. "Barely kept her on the track." Dom said as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders as I laid my head on his shoulder. "So, what's your best time?" Brian and Kayson asked.

"We've never driven her." Dom and I said. "Why not?" Kayson asked. "Scares the shit out of us." Dom admitted. We pointed to a picture. "That's our dad." I said softly. "He was comin' up in the pro stock car circuit." Dom said as we walked away.

"Last race of the season. Ah, a guy named Kenny Linder came up from inside...in the final turn. He clipped his bumper and put him into the wall at 120." I explained as Dom kept me close. "Um, we watched our dad burn to death." Dom explained.

"I remembered hearing him scream. But the people that were there said that he had died before the tanks blew." I said before we faced Brian and Kayson. "They said it was us who was screaming." Dom and I said sadly.

Brian and Kayson looked at us sadly. "I saw Linder about a week later. I had a wrench...and I hit him. And I didn't tend to keep hitting him, but by the time I was done, I couldn't lift my arm." Dom explained as Brian and Kayson sat down.

"He's a janitor at a high school. Has to take the bus to work every day." I said softly. "And they banned me from the tracks for life." Dom said looking at Brian and Kayson sadly. I laid my head on my brother's chest who held me close.

"Me and my brother live our lives a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters. Not the mortgage, not the store, not our team and all their bullshit. For those 10 seconds or less, we're free." I explained softly. We left shortly after that.

That night

Mia and I were sitting on one side, while Kayson and Brian were on the other. "So, how is it, anyways that the--the gang came to be?" Brian asked, causing Mia to chuckle. "The what?" Mia asked.

"The gang." Kayson said. "The gang? No, we don't call ourselves a gang." I said chuckling. "Well, what do you call yourselves then?" Brian asked me. "We're a team. We called ourselves a team." I said smiling.

"All right, so how is it that the team came to be?" Kayson asked. "Well, that's--that's--that's a whole lot of history." Mia said. "We've got time." Brian said. "Okay. Vince grew up with my brother and sister. Actually, he didn't-- he didn't ever actually grow up. As you can tell. Uh, but they were friends as kids." Mia explained.

"And Letty, she just, she lived down the street. Always into cars though. Ever since she was, like, 10 years old. So, naturally, you know, my twin brother always had her attention. And then she turned 16--" I explained.

"And then she had Dom's attention." Kayson said figuring it out. "Yeah. Yeah, it's funny how that works, isn't it?" Mia asked. "Yeah. I said smiling. "How is it that Jesse fits into the whole thing?" Brian asked us.

"Jesse? Well, Jesse and Leon just sort of...showed up one night and never, ever left." Mia explained. "Well, it's just the way our brother is though, you know? Dom's like-- He's-- He's like gravity." I said softly.

"You know, everything just gets pulled to him. Even you two." Mia said as we smiled at them. "Mm-mmm. No. No. The only thing that pulled us in was you two." Brian said, causing us to smile.

"Being friends with your brother is just a bonus." Kayson said causing me to grin. "That's-- That's good. That's-- That's good. It's nice to come first everyone once in a while." Mia said softly, causing Brian to smile. "Want to go for a drive?" Mia and I asked.
