Chapter 18
Ashley
My body changed rapidly. I could see all the good in me being wiped away to another dimension, to another head. A head purer than I. The good in the blood that was escaping down my cupid bow.
I growled, lifting my arms, my body going with it.I couldn't even question why I was floating but it just seemed too real, too in the moment for details. Our arms attached like a relationship bond but full of hate and violence. We spun in the air, like the reverse of what the couples would do in movies. instead of rows and fields of daisies behind us, there were stuffed animals and red lights. My lover being a person who was more than happy to kill me at that moment. Me, a girl. At least I was.
I began pushing him with all my might into antlers on the wall, with the hope it would go through his heart. I wasn't aware of any intention of mine to kill David, but I killed Paul, Sam killed Dwayne, Edgar killed Marko. The only innocent one was Alan: I wanted to get my kill count to two I guess.
My hands slid to his chin and jaw, cupping it as we near the wall. Chortles and exhalations when he only hit the wall beside it. the weapon that could've been staring at me mockingly. My long fingernails gripped his hidden flesh, blood escaping at this action.
"My turn" He snarled, his famous grin worn more than his jacket.
His screeches as he flew startled me. He seized the moment, pushing me back. I was now the lover, he viewed the daisies. I looked back under his strong grasp to see tonnes of antlers sticking out, welcoming its victim with a warm, red hug.
I gasped repeatedly, asking myself over and over what I should do. The other half of me was already planning my funeral, I mean what chance did I have against him? I thought it was game over. That thought was demolished by another pair of orange eyes, curly hair and an earring. I looked over to see Michael heading our way, he tackled David to the side. His arms wrapped around his waist from the side. The love triangle in the field of flowers.
"Michael!" I gasped heading over to help, regaining all oxygen I had missed out of back then. I totally forgot I had to breathe.
Michale was then in the same situation as I was, but he was much closer to the end. His hands held onto the doorframe but the sweat fought against his survival.
"Stop fighting me Michael, Ashley. I don't want to kill you." He whispered shaking his head.
"Join us."
"Never," We said in unison.
"It's too late, our blood is in your veins."
"SO IS MINE! AHHHH!"
I pushed David, his grip loose from surprise and he connected with the arm bony embrace. He let out a deafening cry, the last thing I would've heard from David. As he let out the cry, I could see the boy he was, scared to see the end so soon after being promised immortality. I would be surprised too. My ruthlessness in the tears tumbling down my cheeks. I think my eyes had been through more than my mind today, the things they had seen, the things that escaped them, especially the change in colour.
I was just glad it's all over right?
Wrong.
"I don't feel any different" I stuttered, looking at the destruction my hands had caused.
"When did yo-"
"MICHAEL!" Star screamed from the other side of the room. Michael pulled her in front of us as we stood against the wall hiding our faces from the young ones.
The pitter-pattering of sneakers and boots proceeded down the stairs.
"Don't let them see us like this" He whispered to Star.
I sobbed beside him, trying to contain my wails for my own identity. I was stuck like his forever and all I could think of was how other people would react, a thing I normally didn't care about. I was now so self-conscious, a compliment would cause a rainbow in the sky.
"Michael! Ashley!" Sam called from Star's previous location. it was like that was the call-corner.
The all stopped in their tracks, like a dirty dominoes once they saw David peacefully free on an old man's pride and joy.
"Get away Sam" Michael growled, still filled wth adrenaline from our kill and hoarse from his transformation. He held onto my arm to steady the cries that came from my mouth. My eyes averted to the floor, drips soon following them.
"Mike, what's wrong? Why's Ashley crying?" Sam breathed, still in a state of shock from Michae. Edgar and Alan were still examining his body, all they needed now was an FBI badge and more bravery and they'd be all clear.
"I SAID GET AWAY!" He warned, final. An expired brother and a fallen bird.
"What's the big deal?" Edgar questioned, his gruff voice filling the torturing silence. We were all asking ourselves, what now? What next? Where do we all go? I mean I was practically homeless again. just me and the streets.
"You destroyed the head vampire." Alan Added.
"Nothing's changed," I stated, swallowing the huge ball of pity and remorse I had in my oesophagus.
"Wait, Ashley?! You're a Vam-"
"She's right I don't feel any different" Star agreed in front, I could hear the tears form in her eyes from the shadows.
"Then there's still one more," Sam said still bewildered at my confession, though it wasn't really a confession in the first place.
